They did had announcment for Fairy Tail Season 3 and up back last summer. But I have a feeling that One Piece is on going break for a bit, and the collections are going to start coming out again.

theresa wants to know if the collections come out this yer.

Wow. Just watched the third and fourth episodes on the set. Great work, but I think Marco's voice is too plain and typical! I didn't expect it to be weird, but a little bit of something different would've been nice. Ah well, can't win them all.
I really like Coby's new voice, but feel a bit weird that it's an entirely new person. Man, so conflicted on this. The Coby scenes are so damned innocent and great. His declaration that he's going to be an admiral and fight Luffy in the new world was fantastic, and everything was well voiced.
Since this is my girlfriend's first time with this material, I've been really excited about all of the world building they've been doing, too. My only complaint is that it's a lot of world building too fast. Lots of exposition and plot dumps. New world, four emperors, vegapunk, shanks and buggy on roger's crew, Blackbeard as traitor, garp as grandfather, dragon as father, world revolutionaries versus government.
Oda just grew everything too fast here. Way too many plots twists and plot dumps. But it'll be nice to be able to talk about these basic things without fear of spoiler, though.
And while I hope the next season simply appears on the listings, I sincerely doubt that will happen.
Oh, and playercena, you frequent these forums enough to know that no one here can answer your question. Think more about things before you post them, please.
-
We knew of Blackbeard being a traitor for a long time and had several mentions of Vegapunk before his name was finally revealed as well, though I see your point. I found it very enjoyable, Oda knew what was to come very soon so this was really the last chance to make some of these revelations before those events took place.
-
What was that you said to me a few pages back when I was engaged in a passionate defense of filler? As far as I am concerned, playercena's question, its not unreasonable to ask, given that many of us here tend to hear of things fairly quickly.
And as far as too much dropping at once, do you think that perhaps your rationing might have led to a misperception? Allow me to phrase it another way…..how often have you rewatched the series? Buggy and shanks on the same crew was revealed at the beginning, if not as being part of rogers crew. Blackbeard as traitor was established way back in alabasta, as well as dragon as a revolutionary, if not the leader of an army. So I don't think that as much was dumped at once as it might seem.
-
Since we are getting close to season 6, I'm interested in you guys' predictions on who Funimation will cast for all of these new characters coming up. We have Ryuma, Moriah, Perona, Hogback, Absalom, Kuma, etc. coming up.. (and Brook but we know him :P )
I remember someone suggesting Chuck Huber for Moriah, I would be cool with this. Perona will be tricky, especially that weird laugh
-
At the very least, isn't Ryuma voiced by Brook's VA, having his shadow and all?

Ya I thought about that but I wasn't sure if Funimation would be consistent like that, considering how they got a new voice for Coby while the Japanese kept the same actor
-
Yeah that's right, Ian Sinclair will be Ryuma. He mentioned that he looks forward to voicing Ryuma in his interview with UOPP.
I heard someone mention a while ago that they'd recommend Vic for Moriah. I just really really hope they don't give Kuma a booming and deep voice, it needs to be soft and eerie.
Whoever they get for the whole TB cast needs to also be able to do their laughs. TB is the arc where Oda went all out with the unique laughter styles.

I would really want Jay Hickman to play Kuma, but damn, I don't think I've seen him in anything recently (unless he just happens to be in shows I'm not buying atm). XD I mean, his Mechazawa voice from Cromartie High School would be perfect!
I know that I had mentioned Vic for Moriah, though I'm not sure if I'm the first to make the suggestion. I'd probably pick Chuck Huber for Hogback (his Garlic Jr. voice and/or his Dr. Stein voice would suit the character especially since he goes from deep to high when he gets excited). I'd go w/ Tia Ballard for Perona (her performance in Shiki as Megumi, 'nuff said). Absalom…I'd probably go w/ Rob Mungle. Not too sure on Absalom now. I would've preferred Andrew Love w/ his Adam Blade voice, but he's already been Kumadori and Young Akainu. ><

All the other zombies keep the actors of the characters whose shadows they have; no reason to think they won't stick to that.

Yeah, that makes sense.
Speaking about voice acting, I really enjoyed the special features on this last voyage! I'm excited to see Luci Christian's on the next voyage

Don't forget though, Perona also has moments where she speaks in a fairly low pitch whenever she's serious/mad. She doesn't always sound cutesy and high-pitched.
I've never seen Shiki, so based on what you've seen of it, do you think Tia can still pull it off? I suppose it's not that difficult of a task to transition from high to low, but I guess it's still worth pointing out.
Personally, I kinda worry for whoever gets Hogback because he shrieks and then gruffs out for a minute and then goes right back to shrieking all in one sentence. It's all over the place with that guy's voice, it'll be a chore to get someone for Hogback that's for sure, his laugh won't be the only difficult part to voicing him.

As long as they make an attempt to make it sound natural, a la Foxy and crew and not like Dorry and Broggy, which was overdone leaving one to wonder what they were doing.

You said it, Jonathan Brooks was absolutely phenomenal as Foxy and kind of changed my opinion on the character himself.
Without a doubt I prefer Brooks' performance as Foxy rather than the original seiyu, and that says a lot.

Tia Ballard's character of Megumi from what I can remember, doesn't ever go "mad Perona" deep, but I think she could pull it off. Hell, I wanted Tia for Yuno in Future Diary, but Funi flubbed on that one. Funimation has Eps 1 and 4 (in English) on YT, check her out. She's in most of Ep1 and she has an awesome creepy moment towards the end of Ep4 (mild spoilers though, so tread the episodes w/ caution).

well Stephanie young did play olvia like the seiyuu and Christopher smith did play spandim and I know a shadow is completely different from a parent but I'm sure ian will play ryuma.

There we go, fixed that sentence for ya.

-
thats totally what I meant lol
It could be worse, he could have voiced Ace…oh the meme's that would have come of that...
-
I finished the set yesterday. I really enjoyed the Franky-centric episodes and Garp was awesome. Usopp's return was great too and Chris was amazing with Zoro's speech. My favorite of the set has to be everyone receiving the wanted posters around the world, it was great seeing the old voice actor's back plus the Ace vs Blackbeard preview.
On the extras, the commentaries are slightly a letdown since they could've chosen better episodes. The commentaries are with Jerry Jewell and the filler character's VA. Apparently Jerry is the current ADR director right now too. The "In The Booth" with Colleen was awesome. Can't wait for the others and hopefully they redo Brina's.
Speaking of Jerry Jewell, I can see him as playing Kuma. He can pull off Kuma's soft tone. I also remember Mike at some point mentioning they didn't bring Jerry back as Kaku because they had some other plans for him. Perhaps a bigger role like Kuma???:ninja:
-
It could be worse, he could have voiced Ace…oh the meme's that would have come of that...
oh god they would've been endless but I think the reason the voice was so bland in the Japanese version is probably because other than his devil fruit Marco is kind of a bland character at least from what we've seen of him
-

They had Robin's mom and Robin have the same voice actor just like in the Japanese dub I think.

Tia Ballard's character of Megumi from what I can remember, doesn't ever go "mad Perona" deep, but I think she could pull it off. Not sure what you're talking about on Future Diary because Brina nailed the role of Yuno in my opinion. Just because the Japanese version is a bit squeakier doesn't make the performance bad, and the same is said about Perona as well whatever she ends up being. The dub's job is to only reference the original as best it can, but they shouldn't be limited to copying the original voice without focusing on actual acting skill.
And I actually think recasting Coby worked well. I was surprised by it like everyone else but I was impressed with his performance and I thibnk he pulled off a convincing older Coby that didn't sound drastically different from Leah Clark's performance. The flashback with Leah's Coby only nailed my opinion on that because the voices sounded good back-to-back and convincing.
I'm on the fence about Whitebeard's dub voice though. But Christopher Smith as Spandam warmed on me so I think his performance during Marineford will as well.
I'm still working through the latest set, but so far all's good. But my complaint is that they didn't do a commentary for Franky joining the crew. I don't mind a filler episode for a commentary for a change of pace but this is a case where it just doesn't make any sense.

Who will he voice in Marineford?

So the Collections have started up again.
I hope Funimation is doing what I think they're doing. By that, I mean using the collections as a buffer between seasons.
While the Collections are being released, they can dub Season 6 and onward without having to worry about slowing down the release of new One Piece sets. -

I'm talking in general. Nothing against Brina and those who enjoyed her performance as Yuno. From the clips and parts of episodes I've seen of Future Diary (as I'm waiting for BDs), she suffers from what I call "Higurashi dub syndrome"…the "crazy/psycho" voice works well enough, but the "normal" voice just seems off to me. I'm just saying that I think Tia would've been great for Yuno as much as I think she'd be great for Perona.

It's kind of the opposite for me, I think WB's eng voice works very well. They're clearly not trying to imitate the japanese performance.
It's pretty much the exact same case as Franky's eng dub, the only way to enjoy it is to not compare it to the original seiyu. It doesn't have the same deep baritone as WB's jpn voice but it still works as it's own voice. He also sounds considerably older in english as well, which makes sense for a man around Garp's age. They're both excellent portrayals of Wb's character imho.
Speaking of Garp, his dub sounds like he's still in his late 30's or early 40's, I also feel like it leaves much to be desired from usual silliness and old-man charm. I'm just not getting the "goofy grandpa" vibe from Garp's eng dub which is really a shame because Garp is one of my most favorite OP characters. I'm just going to have to take my own advice though and not compare them to each other so much.
Coby, Jozu, and Marco were all perfect in english btw, I got no issues with them.

Yeh, while the english voice actor for whitebeard isn't bad, I just can't help but think how he will portray some scenes in the arc that's coming. It's probably because I'm bias, because I loved whitebeards laughs and yells in the Jap dub.
I, too, also noticed Garp's voice wasn't matching his age exactly, but for some reason I still really enjoyed it.

well I got voyage 5 since I have to work I just ended up watching one episode I picked when ussop joins the crew and garp sounded good to me but definitely feels different from the seiyyu at least with his approach to voicing garp

I figure that we were going to get a break after Season 5 is done.
