That iceberg wasn't in the manga. I wonder if it's a lead-in to filler or just part of a "the New World's a freaky place!" montage.
Can't tell who the animation director is but looks great anyway.
624 doesn't seem to be covering the entirety of 698 either. I see a few panels from 698 in the 625 preview.
Looks fantastic. Could be more than one Animation Director, there is some signs of Isochi/Nakatani/Shingo, in other words, a studio guts episode.
BTW, I guess Shida's scene might be in #624, judging by the preview of #625.
Thank you Mr. Sakurada for actually caring about One Piece. I'm really happy with how Punk Hazard turned out.
part of a "the New World's a freaky place!" montage.
This is more likely.
I just hope that they stop with the specials for now and keep the good animators for the Dressrosa arc.

I don't know, unless the run out of ideas, those specials seem like a yearly thing. Question is, who is gonna take the budget, the special or the anime. I guess it depends on the producer.
I just hope they stop with the stupid crossover specials, it was interesting the first time, but mostly they were garbage, save for the cool sakuga which were wasted.
Luffy's face @ 0:13 is lulz-worthy
Anyone tell me what is the episode title 625

Episode of Merry isn't doing great in dvd/blu-ray sales though, fairly lower than the previous specials (the blu-ray edition didn't even rank), i wonder if that could change their plans. Of course we don't know if the tv airing is more important, they usually get great ratings.
Hey I was wondering, could the iceberg in the preview be the iceberg/rock from the first panel on this page??

Archah posted it in the general anime thread.
! "Tension! Aokiji vs. Doflamingo".

Possibly, but the preview shows them Coup De Bursting away from it, so I don't think it's the same one.

I really enjoyed it, but honestly, compared to Ep of Nami, it sucked. It was rushed, too much content was covered in less time, Art/Animation was inconsistent. They need to stop using Inoue for long projects, it's movie 8 all over again.
So, I guess low sales are expected. Especially the bluray version, who wants to see the ugly art in a better quality? I've heard they haven't fixed most of it.
Ratings are important, but I think not as important as DVD sales. I guess an upcoming special is inevitable, but I hope they plan it better without sacrificing the anime resources, like what they did with Episode of Luffy which was outsourced.
should be new opening soon.
I've actually heard that DVD/Blu-Ray sales aren't as important as ratings are for long-running shows since they have years' worth of advertising deals to bring in cash as opposed to like twelve-episode shows that are there and gone in the relative blink of an eye.

There's no information about new opening?
There's no information about new opening?
Nope, none as far as know.
Probably will have an announcement in the next Shonen Jump if they plan on doing a new one for the new arc.

One piece's toys and merchandise sales are very high, i think merchandises are more important for long running series.
example: precure splash star has approximately the same average rate of Heartcatch. However, splash star got the lowest amount of profit unlike Heartcatch that had the highest profit in precures history

The winter anime season is approaching, but that would be an outlier indeed.
From that preview, especially the Luffy shot, I caught myself thinking "this doesn't look like One Piece" but in like, a good way. New blood on the animation crew? Or maybe folks that haven't had their chance to shine getting to do stuff? Whatever it is I think I'll like the overall look of the episode. I like stuff being on model for the most part but for a series this long I don't mind stuff being shaken up every now and then appearance-wise.

But series like Bleach and Gintama were surviving on DVD sales, since the tv ratings were really low. And yet, they still looked better overall.
Oh wow. Robin in episode #625…wow. Yes. Thank you.

What a great way to end the year! 3 great directors in a row!
I can't read the titles, if someone is willing to do a translation is appreciated. Or just wait for Archah.

Thx @__Adyniz__ for the heads up.
I think 625 is directed or maybe storyboarded by Endo Tetsuya.
I don't know any of the other names though.

So I got round to watching 616 …..Holy shiiiiiiit katsumi ishikazu rocked my face off, bring on more otsuka and takagi.
3 Awesome staffed episode in a row.....what the hell happen to toei, why the hell did they suddenly start careing again lately.

That's correct.
Having Endo to direct the comical episode is an awesome choice, he did a great job executing the jokes in #622. Add to that he is working with Nakatani. Damn, I'm extremely looking forward to the episode.
I'm excited for Otsuka's ep, I'm sure it's gonna be awesome. But I hoped they could save him for future episodes, I really hope he continues to Dressrosa, just imagining what he would handle in the future gives me goosebumps.
Aya to start Dressrosa is a great choice, this should be another great episode.
Well, unless the titles end up being a filler, I will be very dissapointed to see this great staff wasted on filler. So I really hope not.

Hehee, welcome aboard mate.
I think it's about time we started thanking the producer/planner, Mr. Sakurada!
idk but i think 626 might be this:
消えたシーザー!
海賊同盟出撃
Caesar is gone!
Pirate alliance sally
might be filler episode?

Oh, god. Noooo….
Oh, god. Yes!
We need filler like a junkyard dog needs a flea collar.

I'm fine with filler. I'd love one. There's no way that they can go into Dressrosa without it. They literally have to start doing filler episodes because of Oda's new schedule. Hopefully this will be a long filler so we can finally break away from the one chapter pacing and the future canon arcs can have better pacing.
Way to waste a great staff, Toei…So much for Dressrosa starting with a bang.
Anyway, I guess it's time to see Otsuka going wild with the filler, this should be interesting.

626 is Otsuka's episode…
Well, I hope this filler won't last more than 4 episodes...
also i managed to get the first line of 627 which is
ルフィ海に死す!?
google sucked at translating this but I think it has something to do with luffy "dying" out at sea. I would love if this was a filler arc.
EDIT:
Second line is most likely (unsure of the last character though, it's probably wrong):
海賊同盟崩塊
"pirate alliance mass collapse"
looks like we're getting lots of filler episodes, nice.

Bwahahaha!
Yeah, main protagonist dying in filler is so dramatic, this should be interesting.
I don't think it would be good filler arc.
So this is the detour Law was talking about in #624, so it must be a short filler.
They will start the arc without new opening?
Regarding 627….
Thanks to my friend @Chaozek for this (he's busy, so he didn't have enough time to translate the entire blurb at the moment but…)
it's about Breed (?), a guy who has the power of the Beto-Beto Fruit (Beto = Sticky?).
He apparently controlled those sea beast (and Chopper…....), while Luffy got trapped in the Sea Prism Stones (or something)
#626:
Caesar Disappears!
Pirate Alliance's Sally
消えたシーザー!
海賊同盟出撃
#627
Luffy dying at sea!?
Pirate Alliance Collapses
ルフイ海に死す!?
海賊同盟崩壊
The new AD working with Megumi: Sakamaki Sadahiko (坂巻貞彦).
This is the only adaptation I can think of where people positively want filler episodes
Well
Apart from Bleach maybe
I'm fine with filler, but yeah, it's kind of a waste of good staff.
hopefully the filler results in atleast 1.5 chapter per ep pacing for the dressrosa arc otherwise it would be a gigantic waste of time
In one piece case(currently a gap of only 32 ch.), the only way for filler to affect the pacing of canon episodes would be that it last at least 2 cour (24-26 episodes).
The optimum would be a full year of filler, which would add ~40 ch. to the manga/anime gap.
Lol not gonna happen.
While it's a shame that they're wasting such a good staff on this filler, it's still highly welcomed.

It's either that or do slow paced canon episodes with fillers after each and every arc. No matter what they decide to do we still end up with a crap load of filler. .

Who is this Sakurada person, what does he do and since when? You've mentioned him once or twice already and im curious.
