@Shipmate:
Scale-mail bikini, though, is terrible for blocking blunt object or sharp object. It's just a lousy idea in general, except for deliberately enticing your opponents.
@Cyclone_Baroness:
The people that brought up the difference is the point you seem to gloss over. There's a difference in how it's executed. If she was supposed to make me think she was a true gladiator power fantasy. And if Rebecca actually fought and did real damage and took hits. That Oda really was putting her on par with the men. The men being half naked is usually a power thing they also…except for Cavendish posed in ways that could be really said they were being shown in a way that displays how attractive they are. I personally don't care how little she's wearing in a gladiator arena. Like I said, I just don't like the design.
You also seem to gloss over the fact that she was never hurt before in the arena. Someone who is never hurt and has no scars can show off his/her body to show her expertise in her fighting style. She doesn't need protection because her whole way of fighting is based on never being hurt physically. It's also funny that you completely ignore her usually wearing a shield, which she disposed of to concentrate on her fighting style even more than usual.
Actually she has armour that she can easily dispose of to increase her agility.
This shows me that you aren't doing much more than simply reading the manga, not thinking things through because of some bias and dislike. :/
You don't like her, her design, her character. How about you stop hating on her then?
Always reducing the depiction of men to power fantasies, are you never gonna be tired of that?
@DarkFalcon:
There is one more problem with chain mail bikini we didn't cover. We've already established that this type of attire is harmful to person who wears it. But we have't covered the fact that, while men may practically just undressed, they don't wear chain mail loincloths, when chain mail bikini for women is practically a trope. This lack of symmetry comes from the fact, that male authors realise that wearing chain mail loincloth wouldn't be very pleasurable experience (men have their super special joystick and their kintama in this place). Female warriors aren't given same sympathy. Female can be displayed in clothing that is plainly painful to wear for male viewers pleasure.
Sex appeal isn't only issue. I don't mind adult women being shown as sexy. Women are fine being sexy (it just would be good to have some women characters, who are not portrayed as sexy as well as the ones who are and not being old or "ugly" or little girl).
I'm sorry that I used word "displayed" here, because it's objectifying word and I don't objectifying women or human beings at all. It's hard to discuss objectification without using objectifying vocabulary.
No you did etablish it for yourself, in manga it doesn't hurt her to wear that kind of armor. Stop this nonsense already unless you can show a single panel where anyone or anything indicates it to be hurtful. Until then it's simply your fantasy/imagination.
How often do you want to repeat the same thing? It's because it's a Red Sonja reference, she could wear leather, but Oda choose a reference over being perfectly realistic. Get over it.
@The:
How about you consider the character designs of the names, actually important male characters from the Coliseum? They're not all sporting dressed likeTank Lepanto, are they? And even if they just wear cloth, and show a good deal of skin (hell,Chinjao shows skin lol), actual sexualization is not really present.
Now compare to the lone woman of note in the entire thing: Hot girl in bikini. I don't care what the temperature is in that stadium, how fast you can move without armor, or equipment regulations. Rebeccas outfit is uneccesary and lame.
Yeah because other named characters might wear some kind of cloth that distinguishes them from fodder, just like she does by wearing mail instead of cloth/leather like the rest. That way she doesn't look like one of the workers of the colliseum.
Xai and Don Chinjao have northing but haki as armor, Boo that one arm. The Funk Bros have nothing but cloth either. Actually nearly none has something that actually is protective.
Uneccesary and lame to you.
