Link? I have no idea what the IRC channel is.

It's #casanova

Man one of soma's most endearing qualities are the wealth of face expressions.
Also the power balance between hinako and the other chef(well especially shinomiya) is pretty hilarious. -
New chapter is out. Unfortunately it's not on Mangahere or Batoto yet (the only other 2 reader I know besides mangareader), so for those of u in the US…......
http://www.mangareader.net/shokugeki-no-soma/22 -
You could just read it on Casanova
-
i know someone from thayland and she doe`nt like it when ped her on the head, she would make the same reaction as hinako. Is it something that is very humiliating or what in asian countries?
-
^
^It's considered impolite.
If you're not her family (also has to be older), a really really close friend , or boyfriend/girlfriend, you shouldn't pat someone's head, especially girls.
(I'm Thai)

Ah…Stuff lost in translation. What sort of way of speaking did she slip into? Is this another Osaka thing?

When panicking, Megumi speaks in Tohoku (north-eastern) dialect… very country-side hick accent.
She's been doing this since her first introduction. She speaks normal Japanese most of the time, but when she's panicking, which is quite often lol, she slips out her accent. No, not Osaka/Kansai dialect, there hasn't been any character in the series so far.
But considering Osaka stereotype is the "most food-obsessed city of Japan", I'm sure we'll have one soon or later! -
Ahh. I see thanks Aohige.
-
Tadokoro has to be one of the most adorable, cute, endearing and tragic characters I've ever read all wrapped up into one, I freakin' love her.
-

It's a form of affection between loved ones, but to a total stranger yes.
Also, he didn't pat her on the head dude. He freaking IRON CLAWED her head. It's a wrestling move. LOL. -
I wonder how many children soma will encourage to do shokugekis themselves. The results would be pretty amusing, prayers to any judges.
-
Might as well copypasta my posts, saves me time. lol.
De usual
!
! A whole chapter dedicated on Soma cheering Megumi up, giving advice and kicking her into gear.
Loli megumi = HNNNNNGGG -
Raw : http://raw.senmanga.com/Shokugeki_no_Soma/23
Trad : http://mangahelpers.com/t/eru13/releases/37901Great chapter.
! Megumi .
! Liked Doujima's explanation. After Megumi win (which is 99% likely to happen), I guess she will get a lot more confident and won't be needing Souma's help anymore. -

Loli megumi = HNNNNNGGGHaha the hinako face you snuck in… xD
I also question how healthy her interest in megumi is...
-
Oh my god guys, this latest chapter. So it's pretty clear now that this battle is all about getting Tadokoro to a place where she learns to be confident in herself and her own ways, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Soma can't just be the hero all the time, and she's hands down my favourite of the dorm crew
-
I liked the chapter but it felt way too short…Hopefully the next one really gets into it.
-
Love this serie , great concept and great humour. Also loved the latest chapter . Hope she'll get some more confidence now
-
Predictions: Tadokoro will make a home-made dish while the snug French-cook makes a famous 5-star-restaurant dish. And Tadokoro wins because her dish reminds the judges of their own home-made dish. U know, the kinds our moms used to make.

So it's going to be ratatouille (both the dish and the movie)?
Only mentioning it because it's French…don't think she's actually going to make ratatouille but I think you got the ending right.
-
I was inspired by Aohige's megumi collage.
!
! xD
I hope you guys enjoy. -
Volume 2 cover

My eyes… my eeeeeyeeeessss
!
! Four-eyes in his pride didn't even cook his specialty. I guess now we have an excuse to why he's going to lose next chapter lol.
Also, the graduates assess Soma's level to be way beyond the level expected of a student. No surprise there. -
^ hahaha soma reminds us again why it's so fabulous. I wonder if those tastegasm shots will ever get boring.
also, thx for the treat.
-
Oh man, that scratches every itch I have. There's just… Oh god... So perfect. Can't wait for the issue now.
-
Lol magical chefs.

Volume 2 cover
Thigh should have been bit more wider to match the proportion….

-
God damn, Soma was a boss.
The graduates all were like "WTF is that!?"No one so far recognized the family name, which is going to be very silly when the revelation hits.
Also,
! The dish was such a throwback to Ratatouille.
The whole French country-side traditional dish elevated to top restaurant level food. -
Raw is out at senmanga.
Nice chapter.
! Hilarious foodgasm. The best so far with the Pavarotti duck.
I wonder what their reactions would have been if Shinomiya used one of his specialties.
Mizuhara is a cutie. :wub:No one so far recognized the family name, which is going to be very silly when the revelation hits.
Not really. I think his big accomplishments as a chef date to before Souma was born. After that, it seems he kept a low profile in his restaurant in Japan.
The alumnis we met so far are just too young to know about him unless he won a Bocuse d'Or or something like that. -
@&@_&_!*)$^!!!!
It's only the spoiler and I can't wait to see next week's chapter!!!! (and I don't even understand what they're saying)
And the amazing part is that most of the time, the plot is predictable, but the execution is so good that it actually makes me feel satisfied with how the story goes.
-

The alumnis we met so far are just too young to know about him unless he won a Bocuse d'Or or something like that.Yes really. "Yukihira" is NOT a common Japanese name at all.
The fact world-class people from all over the world in that NY restaurant were familiar with him is proof his name was famous.
And yet, despite being globally famous AND unique, no one caught the name here. Except Doujima.I'm expecting "d'oh" reactions from the chefs in the future. LOL

I don't see it that way.
Unless the translation I read is wrong, the people who we saw in NY didn't come because his name is famous but because they personally tasted his food in the past.
So I don't see how it is strange that "old" people like them remember him and not "young" people like the alumnis.
Unless he wrote his name in cooking's history by winning a prestigious award or he is a graduate of Tootsuki, I don't see why these alumnis should know him.
The fact that Doujima vaguely remember that name suggests that he's more an urban legend that cooked for a short period all over the world and then "disappeared" than a former superstar chef that every chef heard of.Well, we'll see in the future how famous he really is.
-
Um, I think we have two very different meanings of 'famous'.
Your definition of famous requires Hollywood star status level. To me, an "urban legend" is a form of fame.
Urban or not, a legend is by definition, famous.Besides, top-circle people from all around the world knowing him isn't urban.
-
Urban legend was probably a poor choice of words. Let me rephrase what I wanted to say.
His father may have been famous in the past, but IMO nothing so far indicates that it was to the point that it's "very silly" if nowadays chefs in their 20s like the alumnis don't instantly recognize the name.
Sure, if it's revealed he won a Bocuse d'Or, had a 3-star restaurant or something like that, I will agree with you. But, I think it's a little too soon to predict that it will turn that way. -
Chapter 24 is finally out http://www.mangapanda.com/shokugeki-no-soma/24
-
Damn, my love of Soma is still not strong enough to overcome my disdain for mangapanda
-
You should link to Casanova, which is where the scanlation originally came from. Mangapanda didn't do anything other than add their watermark.

They also have an IRC, #casanova on irc://irc.irchighway.net/.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The magical cabbage was quite amusing.
-
I'm glad that Souma and Tadakoro are going to win without compromising the reputation of the alumni. Frenchie maybe an asshole but he's a powerful asshole. I'm glad the author is taking care of the power balance.
-
Oh Lord Soma's double page spreads never disappoint. Also thanks for the link JarmenKell.
-
Those who serve their foods first = lose
Most food battles are just like that lol

Funny that you mention that, I wondered about that lately. Due the demands of structural tension building if there ever will be a shokugeki where soma goes first.
-
From the few things we know so far, I think that Megumi's dish is some kind of quiche.
Another french dish would be a great way for Megumi to be acknowledged by Shinomiya. -
So was anyone else surprised that the 'L' lookalike ended up being a chick, I know I sure was.
!

I wasn't she was introduced some chapters ago as mizuhara fuyumi I think and fuyumi is to my knowledge a female name.
-
The author making use of his spot-censoring skills for the end shot there; wonder what the killer dish will be. What made you say Quiche?
-
It will be a weird quiche to be cooked in a marmite with so many ingredients. And Megumi specialty are Japanese dishes.
-
Twist!!
! They…... lost............... :wassat:
-
Seriously Aohige?
