Focusing on Abed, Annie and Troy next year makes the most sense to me at least you can do something else with them.
Will the show try to get Annie to fall in love with Troy again
Please writers do this just do it.

Bring Herstory of Dance girl back as at least recurring character.

Brie Larson was awesome would be nice to see her back.

I would love it if she became a member of the study group. Gives Abed someone else to interact with other than just Troy and Annie.
The show will still focus on Jeff. I doubt his role will be reduced. We'll just have more adventures outside the school.
So is Nex lying in a ditch somewhere, gasping with his dying breath, "…Harmon..."? Should I be calling someone? Concerned?

Please get new showrunners. No more pandering.
If Community being renewed for season 5 is true, I can't see it ending well - the season finale, assuming it was written as though it was a series finale, wasn't that good (it was a mash-up of episodes that we've already seen, but not as interesting or funny), and I can't see the series working as well with Chevy Chase gone and with Joel McHale's role presumably diminished.
Please. This show can barely remember that it takes place at a community college. Jeff graduating will have no effect on his presence.

Yup I agree. We might even see other characters graduate. Not like it really matters.

There's still the Annie / Shirley battle for valedictorian. If the writers were smart, that would be the overarching plot of the fifth season. And maybe another 13 episode season will teach them not to shove in every stupid gimmick idea they have.
Six seasons and a movie seems more like a threat now.
Just glad there's more Community coming my way.
I'm the guy who still watches the Simpsons, so this tiny dip in quality is nothing.
Something I didn't get. How can Annie be ready to graduate if she switched majors/career paths?
From what I understood, shouldn't only Abed and Shirley should be graduating next semester? Britta just chose her major last year, and Troy said he has another year to go.
And I've said it before, I personally think the show is more about people growing at Greendale instead of following the lives of these 7 friends. I'm actually more okay with the new season because only Jeff and Pierce graduated, fears of lack of Harmon, old writers, as general tv quality decline non withstanding.
And my feelings about Jeff don't just stem from that. Despite the rushed feeling, Jeff graduating and deciding to help out small firms to win cases seems like the right end to Jeff's story as a character (was so glad they didn't go for something like he'll be a teacher at Greendale at the end which was what I expected given his major).
Plus if the show still follows Jeff's journey then the show would still need to make excuses as to why they aren't following Pierce and why he's not around (basing this off of Chevy not coming back for sure. That's confirmed, right?)
Well, Britta chose her major in her third year, which is fine because most majors only require 30 or so credits. Greendale seems to be basically a full college, so for the sake of it all we can assume it offers everything that is required for any basic major. Annie should be the only one who isn't able to graduate, unless she's just minoring in forensics (did they make the distinction?). And is Troy still undeclared?
Okay, finally here to process my thoughts a bit.
Jeff's not going anywhere. I bet my life on it. Typically, you can still take classes after graduation. I've graduated college once. I'm still in it. Jeff might just take a class or two with the group to keep himself involved in the story.
As to the prospects of a Season 5, to the people calling foul, Season 4 was PRODUCED IN A VACUUM. There were good episodes, there were bad ones, but a season 5 should hopefully contain more good than bad now that the runners (hopefully) know what's what. I'm hoping Season 5 premieres on the fall schedule just so we can get episodes produced as others air so things can be tweaked appropriately to respond to the fans.

While it is nice it's getting a 5th season, I'm not nearly as excited as last time. Alot of shows have surpassed Community in my opinon.
Hopefully they build plotlines better in season 5. Troy and Britta, while something I've never liked, had very little build-up to their break up. I don't see why I should care about them breaking up. The whole Changnesia and City College thing just deflated overly fast. I expected Chang to betray CC and be redemmed from the start, but it should've been done bigger. And City College ended up doing nothing, though I hope they ignore the stupid spider robot thing if they bring that plot point back.
Jeff majored in Education, who's to say he won't come back and teach.
I'm thinking that after the giant robot spider fails to pan out, Dean Spreck should get Greendale into some sort of legal trouble. Since Jeff is supposedly helping the little guy now, it would be a good opportunity to show him doing that while giving him a reason to be on campus.
Also, it would probably be impossible to get Giancarlo Esposito for a whole season, but they should try to get Gilbert to replace Pierce.
The finale did two things right. One it was a dream, so we never have to act like it happened, and secondly it made a change to the status quo of the show.
Jeff will have a new role within the story, and Pierce has exited. The most important thing is change. Much of this last season has been about how things are not so different than series past. So much acting like they know what fans want, instead of focusing on new stories. That's the underlining major problem with a show, especially for a season who's main plot points were about about changes.
Its ironic since most of the plot points were about how a change is happening; (i.e. Jeff graduating, Troy and Britta breaking up, Annie's changing degree, Abed's trying to grow, etc) But there was a lot of time spent in the writing was to let us know its the same Community. Hey look here's some episodes that based off concepts we've previously mention when Dan Harmon was around, Pierce's house, Jeff's dad. All it needed was Slater to return.
With the status quo now change, I think the best thing for the show to is to reinvent itself into a new Community. Embrace change, and move foward. Just stop pretending its Dan Harmon's Community, and let's see what the current staff can do.
With Jeff now graduated there's plenty of fun things they could do with episodes;
Jeff comes back on the first day, and finds that the group got a new study group member and gets jealous of this "New Jeff".
We never got any Dean living next door high jinks.
Plus, more Shirley vs Annie; and Abed with what's her name Racheal?
I finally saw the last episode… and I thought it was great. Shocking, I know.
Troy has probably been my favorite character this season, and Pierce the weakest (obviously). It's a shame how Pierce went from such an amazing character to the absolute worst.
Really? I thought Pierce was good this season. If I'd have to pick a least favorite of the study group it'd be Shirley.
In the episodes he was in he was fine, way better than season 3 anyway. They actually made him somewhat competent. It's just… it's so noticeable that Chevy didn't care anymore. He just sits down, looks stupid and makes weird faces all the time. In the first seasons he actually put some energy in his performance.
Jeff majored in Education, who's to say he won't come back and teach.
A nice way to have him still remain in the show's presence, but I doubt he'd want to lol.
Finish the final episode and got to say that this season was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The writers had so many disadvantage but they really made community their own show, sure it wasn't exactly the same old community and there were hit and miss episode but I like it. If I didn't know that Dan Harmon left the show then I probably won't notice the difference.
I'm just glad my avatar would stay relevant for another year. (Cue Jeff not appearing next season)
As for me, I'll just pretend this is a rather weak episode heralding the beginning of a rather long Breaking Bad-esque mid-season break, and Season 5 is just really Season 4 continued.
Community will be doing the same thing as last year. Filmed in the Fall, air during Winter/Spring.
Ahem…......[hide]Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt[/hide]
What a crazy ass year.
Am I the only one that isn't quite comfortable with the idea of him returning? I say this as someone that still loves season 3 the most.
We've wasted and entire season for the new showrunners to find their rythm and arguably when the season wasn't so busy telling us that it's still community there was something there that could become as fun and awesome in a new way.
If Harmon returns, wouldn't that create a lof of mayhem? I don't know if I want the probably last season of community to be another season filled with production chaos.

Things is, the new guys were only signed on for one season, and their contracts haven't been renewed, so even if Harmon doesn't come back they might be gone as well, especially if Sony is so unhappy with the show they're considering bringing Harmon back.

I see, didn't know about the one season deal. Man that's asinine.
Sigh, well at least if harmon comes back we know that there will be at least one person that will probably care an insane amount(and I mean that to no disregard to anyone else working on it).
And at worst I still have the option of ignoring season 4 and 5* and just look at community ending with season 3, which had a perfectly fine ending.
*I feel if season 5 is done right there is actually potential for me to find new appreciation for season 4 in many ways. Just how I like season 1 more because I've seen season 2 and the same with s2 and s3.
If they do get rid of the new guys, the only solution would be to bring back Dan, and some of the old writers. If they start season 5 with an entirely new team, I've officially lost all hope. The new writers were just getting into their groove, so I would love to see them do a season 5. Of course, I would also love seeing Dan return… this is all rather weird and surreal.
Season 4 can officially be the fan fiction season, much like Dragonball GT.
Season 4 can officially be the fan fiction season, much like Dragonball GT.
…... that seems strangely fitting, and this is coming from someone who decently enjoyed this season barring a few things.
I'm actually fine with Abed stepping out his Dreamatorium in the first episode of season 5, saying something like "That was weird". And yeah, I generally liked this season as well.
Moses and David have already moved on from the show, unfortunately. This may be an interesting turn of events. Especially if Season 4 becomes a "dream season" and Season 5 starts the whole thing over (though I would hate that very much)
And there it is, the only way for Community to have any stability next season is for Harmon to return. Adios to those suckers. They gave me so much hope and then destroyed it.
I would seriously hate it if they just retconned out a whole season's worth of stories like that.
Not to mention Pierce won't be there so it'll be weird and different anyway.
I trust Harmon enough that if he came back he would know what to do with season 4. Whatever his failings may be the man knows story structure. I still think it was a poor season but replacing the people behind the scenes with an entirely new group of people is the last thing the show needs, they did some good work and it's a tricky show to just step in and run I think.
Seems like the new showrunners declined to come back but given the murky history when they let harmon go I'm not to sure how much credence such statements have. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/29/sony-negotiating-with-dan-harmon-to-return-to-community
Sometimes I just want to club the powers that be…
Gillian Jacobs just welcomed Dan Harmon back on Twitter.
sigh
Congrats to everyone else in here, I suppose.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And apparently Harmon already had confirmed a while ago, so I guess I Britta'd that.
Actually I think you're the first to confirm he actually said yes on here. Before this, I think before this he was just "asked" to return instead of accepting the offer, unless Gillian Jacobs is the one that Britta'd it, though if he was in negotiations it was more or less a lock.
I just meant that I buried the lede, since Britta was welcoming Dan Harmon back after he confirmed it an hour earlier on Twitter. But yes, it's absolutely official now.
Okay then, this is great news. Hopefully some of the old writers will return now as well. We can all agree that this is a much better solution than bringing in another completely new team of showrunners and writers.
Well the fact that it happened is still kind of surprising.
To be honest I'm not going to jump or celebrate it, because a lot has changed since he was gone. Even his return might not ensure the return of the things I've loved about the first 3 season. I mean the writer team changed, the russo brothers won't be there and chevy probably won't be either, so… I'm going to be curiously waiting.
Am very curious to see how Harmon deals with the fallout of Season Four. I personally believe most of it was acceptable in the series' universe, but we all know that he's not going to like the origin story and some of the other plot tweaks. He will, of course, love Chevy's departure.
Wish I could be there when he finally watches through Season Four.
