The participants being able to do what they want is a sign that Lucy is going to take them all out. Yu Yu Hakusho had something very similar to this happen.
Ah, nice to see others remember the Dark Tournament from YYH! I didn't enjoy some of the tournaments of other series but I did like the one from Yu Yu Hakusho.

Usopp is already growing a pair. We've seen it at Punk Hazard. Him becoming an intangible force that would protect him from numerous of ordeals (falling objects, bullets, cannons, i.e. the usual things that happen to the SHs) would only add to it.
Why would Usopp, 1) taking a fruit as significant as the Mera Mera be downplayed, and 2) based on the fact that Usopp loves to flaunt the goods… why would you believe that him not becoming a logia wouldn't change his ego?

Why should Oda give them new ones, when they wasn't at the brink of death with their old ones. At least it is too soon if a Strawhat will eat this fruit now.

Luffy becomeing pirate king has factors that change the 50/50 probability (Yonku, other pirates, WG etc ) and read what i wrote:

I know some people want Sanji to be level headed and cool like Zoro all time but that's just not him. He goes nuts over women and has nose bleeds every now and then. Last time it happened was a brief moment when he saw Monet right? Who cares? It's been a long time since then. Sanji has an awesome mix of silly and cool, very much like Luffy.
Sanji flying around, giving speeches to Jinbe, Blue Walking in the deep sea, getting all the mermaid love, saving Tashigi and G5 from the toughest opponent since the time skip, feeling responsible for Kinemon and rescuing the kids without being some lovy dove pedophile. The guy is great and despite the annoying full on plot point that was the nose bleed I don't get the hate. He's a horny guy who lives on a ship with 2 hot women that don't return his advances, of course he's going to go wild when out in the wild. Some guys are just like that and Sanji is one of them.
The Sanji hate reminds me of a mom or a wife(not mine), you do so many good things they love, then you turn around and do one thing they don't like and it defines your entire existence for life.
There was a short time where I was genuinely getting annoyed with Brooks's jokes, but not to the point that I think it completely detracts from his character. I just realized he was alone for a heck of a long time and his social skills were just reduced to nothing. He was the product of his environment much like Sanji is now especially with where he was for the last 2 years.
I should have known Luffy would be interested in the fruit, but I expected him to be pretty indifferent towards it. This is great development though and I loved how Luffy asked if Franky wanted it right off the bat. If the fruit does get recovered it will make for some interesting character development of the fruitless reflecting on their individual roles and styles of fighting. There is absolutely no way any one of the 9 or Jinbe will eat it though, it just isn't happening. That statement I stand firmly by. I could see someone wanting to eat but it will be something Oda will not allow.
Aside from the major story and character implications it would have I feel its just too "cool" of a power. Except for maybe Sanji, all the Straw Hat's have an element of silliness and absurdity to their powers. Though that's not much of an argument considering how less silly Nami's abilities have gotten.

This chapter was pretty meh to me. However, I did like the last couple of pages where Luffy owns that spartan warrior and just says "nice to meet you" in the end which reminded me of Yu Yu Hakusho where Shinobu (as his original persona) pwned Yuuske and shakes his hand afterwards. Hilarious!! XD

I personally never liked Sanji`s character habits(which are after the TS rly hard to go trough), but i still love him as part of the crew and respect him for many cool moments.I thought it was a bit weird the way Oda handled how Luffy directly says he wants that DF, but it would have been shocking if he goes "i don`t care" by something related to his brother.
Franky encouraging him to battle for the fruit was simply how i hoped his reaction to be.
That no SH will eat the fruit is a no-brainer so far, but Momonosuke could be fitting when the artifical fruit he ate would allow that.

Seeing him having more and more to do with the crew until and during Wano could make him a fitting person for the DF, especially as a new generation who deserves to be the next in the line for that awesome fruit.
Somehow similiar how Luffy ate the gomu-gomu no mie from Shanks also Momonusuke could get his hands on the fruit more by accident, but in the end Luffy would like him to have that power, instead of holding it all the time without ever getting it to someone.
