@butman:
I bet that Fujitora is a retired Admiral (from Roger era) and Akainu called him for help. He look older than the 3 admirals.
I really like this idea! I hope it's actually true because it'd be pretty cool.

The real strenght of the Straw Hats will come out here. The whole New World still takes them in low regard. They see them as fresh fish coming in to the New World.
Like people state, they think they are ordinary pirates for them. All the fights we had know showed us the Straw Hats didn't have any real trouble with their opponents. Franky beating up two crewmates of DoFlamingo with no real sweat? The fights in Fishman Island were a real joke.. Their real strenght will be showed shortly…
Anyways, other than that, this chapter was quite interesting. The coverstory of Caribou has made a hilarious twist, seems Oda used another Duval. The whole Fujitora thingy makes it interesting.. it seems Fujitora is lazy justice as we see now.. inb4 BLIND justice :p...
Seems he doesn't see them as evil perse just yet. Curious what it will bring us in the end.. with him also sitting at the Colosseum.
Story also seems to going quite fast in progress.. we already see the trap in motion, the thing is.. will Luffy want to grab it?And what are the fairies? Maybe a revolutionary cell? Or something else?
And the whole Mera Mera no Mi subject.. if I had to make the story, probably good thing I don't, I would write (read expect) the following:As for now Luffy and Franky are a team apart. They are the only two who right now know something of the Corrida Colosseum. I am guessing they will head there in disguise.. and somehow will end up with Kanjouru or meet him there not knowing it's him and see him fight in the Colosseum winning some fights. In the end somehow Kanjouro ends up with the Fruit and eats it for w/e reason. Well in that trend something will be happening..
Dunno if his name means something? Maybe someone who kan translate to English can translate his name :p..
Blind Justice already mentioned on previous chapter talk
Great chapter like always. I'm ready for the tournament, LET'S DO THIS!!!
What if these 'fairies' go to the coliseum and steal the mera mera no mi
with zoro, sanji and kinemon being blamed as accomplices to whoever the thief is (they stumble into the coliseum as well)
Just realize that Oda put this tournament on the storyline just to make his own "Cell Games"
Or Oda put a tournament arc in to mock Hiro Mashima and Fairy Tail, showing how to make a good shonen tournament arc. :ninja:
@The:
What? No he didn't.
Doflamingo specifically said Luffy is a dangerous individual during one of his Den Den Mushi calls to CC/Monet/Vergo, and that he has the Conqueror's Haki; to be careful.
If he did say what you're saying at some point then Oda is contradicting himself horribly.
He's underestimating Luffy by doing this whole tournament thing with the mera mera no mi. At this point in time no one in DD's crew could beat Luffy unless its DD himself. By letting Diamante handle the Luffy situation is underestinating him. Diamante is weaker then DD is and he expects him to handle Luffy with no problems. Soon after all of this happens, DD will realise that he will have to do everything himself and then hopefully we see an all out battle between the two.

I think Doflamingo can hold his own against Luffy well enough. VERY well enough.
thats hawkins you can see him holding a card in the pic
Wut lol? DoFla never said Luffy was an ordinary (shitty) pirate. He said that unlike Law, Luffy is a pirate with no special status so that Smoker shouldn't have let him get away.

If you think that's Hawkins then you need to get your eyes checked.
(I mean… I guess it could be, but there's things that are also saying it's not). (It was not revealed).
I, like all you fine people, am super pump for this tournament! I like what I see so far. The contenders look like an interesting bunch. OMG Senor Pink! Ha ha! Looks like this guy has a baby fetish. I just hope he won't need a diaper change during the tournament… But yeah, my money is on the old dude "Lao G". One thing I know about tournament arcs...do not underestimate the old dudes! They will kick some major ass! But hey, I could see this dragging out for a while...if it's a free for all. I mean, if people keep jumping in to fight for the fruit, it could maybe last a while. But then again, Luffy could probably take on all these guys with one punch. We'll see what Diamante has up his sleeve. Can't wait for the next chapter! I hope we see the "Green Bit" crew...that's the group I'm excited about the most! Pure. Comedy.

A common pirate who's made more news then all other supernovas and has a bounty of 400mill. If luffy is just a common pirate then law must be the fucking pirate king. My point is that luffy is being underestimated by him still. He letting guys who have no chance of winning handle luffy. Thats underestimating him.

The shadow maybe slightly feminine i admit but trust me he's definitely holding a card in 1 hand which unless u can explain that then thats a major clue that it's hawkins
all the major features are the same as hawkins

You know that can't be Hawkins, right? At that time he was in the room with Apoo waiting to meet with Kidd, who was also watching a different screen. Unless Kidd's hideout has two giant TV screens hooked up to the underworld, that can't be Hawkins.

Common as in "not a Shichibukai." He has no special privileges, which is why DD suggested that Smoker should have no problem telling him where Luffy went. DD is not underestimating Luffy, at least not from that specific line.

Lol you best brush up on your interpretation skills. Luffy is a common pirate. Supernovas are still common pirates. They are all common pirates in the sense that they have no special status pardoning their passage. Government officials look the other way for Warlords. Regular pirates, which is what the SHs are, do not share in this same privilege. Bounty/strength is irrelevant in the context of DoFla's inquiry. He is saying Smoker should have stopped the SH, but he didn't.
This has been already cleared by CCC and Aohige. What DoFla means there is indisputable.
sigh let's see how oda handles this tournament then

My bad lol. I looked at it in a different perspective. But I still think doflamingo is underestimating luffy but that makes him no different then any other past opponents.
That's certainly possible, and I don't disagree. DD is a cocky guy with a lot of confidence in his own ability and his network of people. I could very well see one of his fatal flaws being that he allows Luffy to dominate the tournament while he's off dealing with Law personally, although of course his plan has to be a little more complicated than that, given that the whole thing is a trap intended JUST FOR Luffy.

There's going to be all these strong fighters there so it seems like they might all gang up on him. But we still won't know the rules of the colloseum and Franky is also going to be with luffy so he will probably see that its a trap and devise something himself.
I don't think Doflamingo has underestimated Luffy. He acknowledged that he has CoC and could have more potential than Law. Doflamingo has also shown an interest in meeting Luffy, probably because he admires his strength.

I would hope he's not. Diamante better be stronger or at least on par with law so this fight could last longer. I think DD just wanted to meet with him so he could try to make an alliance with him because he's strong.
Senior Pink looks like a boss!! hahahaha
More amused than I should be over the fact that Zoro lost a sword…
most excellent chapter this week, also dudes is it just me or is this arc bringin all the spaniards out of the wood work
I honestly don't think there will even be a real tournament. Its just going to be a way to draw Luffy's attention, and when he gets there they'll drop the charade and spring the real trap. I doubt Dofla has really gathered many strong warriors: He's had one day to prepare this entire thing, and even if he called people most probably couldn't make it on time. Probably the only real strong people present right now are Dofla's crewmembers. So yeah, the tournament was probably a sham all along, and was just a big flashy way to attract Luffy to whatever Dofla's real plan is
Why do people think Luffy is going to join the tournament? Wouldn't it be more in character to just show up and try to beat the crap out of everyone if he really wanted the fruit? I mean, what's DD gonna do, want to kill him MORE?

Yeah, part of the reason I doubt a tournament arc will occur is because I doubt either side would really play fair and enter a tournament with set rules. And I'm sure DOfla realizes that Luffy, being a pirate, wouldn't just play nice and follow a bunch of rules he set. THat's why I think the tournament is just a ruse to catch Luffy's attention

I'd disagree that the tournament is a sham. Doflamingo mentions that the Colosseum is a huge success thanks to Diamante in a previous chapter which, I think can be taken to mean that they're holding regular matches there and that it isn't really uncommon for there to be strong pirates competing there. Actually, I think a tournament is a much better way for Doflamingo to accomplish his goals than right out attacking Luffy. Doflamingo doesn't really have much a beef with Luffy; his problem is with Law. When Doflamingo discusses Ace's devil fruit, he basically says that it's going to completely distract Luffy and make Law's alliance with him more of a burden than a boon. Tournaments take time to do and because Doflamingo knows when Law's bound to show up, all he needs to do is keep Luffy from interfering and a tournament where he could win his brother's fruit is a perfect way to do that.
Anyone?
The colosseum doesn't have to be a sham for this tournament to be. The fact that the colosseum was already a huge thing makes it the perfect way to lead into a trap, since he could make it a big event that everyone knows about which would guarantee that it gets Luffy's attention. And Dofla didn't say it would distract Luffy, just that he said it would make him see the alliance as a shackles. Plus that assumes Luffy plays by the rules (which is a stupid assumption, especially since Luffy should have a reputation for rash and reckless actions after ennies lobby, marineford, and impel down). And it ignores that if Luffy beats his men he'll be that much closer to finding the smile factory (which they currently have no other way to find). Even if Dofla is confident in his men, it makes no sense to place such a huge risk on such a simple plan where so many things could go wrong. Yeah you might be right, but if everything goes that route I'll be disappointed since it will be completely out of character and kind of stupid
I dunno about this tournament. Half these enemies seem kinda lame, and the other seem a little cool. With the exception of the crew shown on the the intro of Dressrosa (during the Punk Hazard adventure), I'm surprised that Donflamingo's crew has so many intimidating weirdoes in it, then again Donflamingo seems to have a larger crew then most. I'm not completely impressed here, thankfully the arcs still early and a lot of cool stuff can happen.
OMG YES. Nothing like an old fashioned Tournament :D I love tournaments!
If we are gonna get a lot of one on one fights this arc which I would love, these are some of the fights (for the Monster Trio since the rest could go any way) I could see happening:
Luffy and maybe Law vs. Doflamingo. This will be Luffy's most intense battle since the time skip
Luffy vs. Diamante. If Luffy participates in the tournament or crashes it or something I see him fighting Diamante.
Zoro vs. The guy on the spade seat. Not much reason here just from what we can see of his design he gives the vibe of that silent badass Zoro opponent.
Sanji vs. Trebol. This will be Sanji's chance to demonstrate and refine his CoA skills against a strong Logia enemy.
Luffy has yet to get in any good fights in over 2 years. Magellan was completly dominating Luffy and his friends. The war was Luffy getting owned. Hodi and Ceasar were weaklings. I don't know how Oda can go this long without having Luffy show the results of his training. Using haki to fight weaklings does not count. This manga needs some Enies Lobby and Alabasta type fighting.
There is not going to be a tournament. Its going to be the epic moment for Luffy to prove himself. Luffy has yet to have an epic moment in a very very long time. Luffy owning every pirate there then eating the fruit would be predictable, but it would also be badass. It would also be much more interesting than a tournament when we already know the victor.
I am pretty confident Luffy can eat 2 DF. Just like how Kuma was constantly hinted to be a revolutionary, Oda has hinted that Ds can eat 2 devil fruits. Ace's fruit popping up pretty much makes it obvious. Maybe Doflaminfo knows Luffy can eat it? He did say Luffy would not let anyone else have it.
This is a huge mistake for Doflamingo. He is going to lose his entire crew here and it might happen very very quickly.
A tournament is too slow and too predictable.

Honestly, most OP villains (hell characters) seem lame. And some are…. but... Oda does wonders with such characters. Look at Wanze. He was lame, but he was very entertaining. That's what matters
él es un buen personaje~

I agree with the fact that Luffy has needed a good fight and show off some badassery and epicness, but Luffy eating 2 fruits would just be plain weird.
After this many years, Gomu gomu no.. fire punch?
I like Luffy the way he is. He doesn't need the power of a second fruit, and having a second fruit would change his character completely. I don't think Oda would change his main character's essential points after 700 chapters.
i want to believe the blind swordsman is Fujitora…but what i can't understand is why did he give a address which alarmed somebody enough to guess his true identity,if he want to keep low profile and do reconnaissance....
I really doubt Luffy will eat the Mera fruit. It would make the Red Hawk pretty stupid after the fact.
I'd prefer if he held onto it indefinitely until passing it and his hat to the next generation. Heh. Maybe he does, and the kid accidentally burns up the hat, only for Luffy to laugh it off. He already fulfilled his agreement with Shanks by that point.

Luffy will pass the fruit on… to Ace's son, thats right I went there. Well mabye not that far but I do gotta weird theory about Ace and Bonney. Anyway, like you said, Luffy won't be eating it so we can all stop with that talk.
Don't really know if this will actually turn into a tournament arc, seeing as how important this mission is to the overall plan of taking down a Yonkou.
How if Sabo will show up…and it will only be right if the mera mera fruit and its power falls into his hand. He is a brother of Ace and Luffy after all, so no other person beside him and Luffy should rightfully eat the fruit.

Oda said he is only slightly past half way done with the manga. That is a ton of time for a character to develop no new abilities/ a new dynamic. Haki is null and void because everyone in the new world has it and his COC is only useful vs weaklings and Logias. Luffy doesnt have a sword like other non ability users.
I just don't see Luffy holding on to it, he would have the possibility of having it stolen. It would also be kind of ridiculous to keep someone like Sanji from eating it.
Just a thought; remember when Zoro mentioned he always wanted a "fire sword"? On their way to fi, I think? Maybe he'll fuse the mera mera fruit to one of his sword. :ninja:

No one, the only similarity is that they have beards

To tell you the truth, i expect and hope for DD to be the first one to not fully underestimate Luffy. I think the statement during PH was an indication that he will not be the same as the other villains. To me, he always seemed like a guy whose confidence does not overshadow his ability to asses people and situation, at least that´s my take so far. Of course he had a mishap with Law but that was due to their shared past than anything else.
Just a thought; remember when Zoro mentioned he always wanted a "fire sword"? On their way to fi, I think? Maybe he'll fuse the mera mera fruit to one of his sword. :ninja:
Well this is a new idea (that hasn't been mentioned like 100 times already).
I totally disagree with those saying that a tournament would be boring.
I'd love to see a properly executed tournament with well matched fighters and a lot of thought put it by Oda. This could be One Piece's Tenkaichi Budokai.
A tournament is also a really good opportunity for Oda to show how characters have developed their battle tactics as well as their raw power.
A fighting tournament is a game after all, and any game needs good foresight, a bit like how the JoJo's always try to stay one step ahead mentally in order to gain the upper hand. It doesn't have to be predictable at all. Who knows whether the strawhats even have what it takes to win.
Knowing Oda and his style I highly doubt this tournament will go as predicted. I could see Luffy starting a fight then Zoro and Sanji interrupting while Luffy chases the Mera Mera (I think he will want it). Zoro and Sanji trying to outdo each other a la Davy Back Fight would be comedy Gold. Also a really cool thought that probably won't happen could be Ussopp turning into DJ Sogeking while watching a fight. It is the sort of crazy shit Ussopp would do to avoid an actual fight :P
I don't know if I should be mad that Oda "defaced" Che Guevara with Caribou's ugly face, or laugh my ass off.
Just a thought; remember when Zoro mentioned he always wanted a "fire sword"? On their way to fi, I think? Maybe he'll fuse the mera mera fruit to one of his sword. :ninja:
Agree, very great idea!
This is not a new theory but antithesis for this if we seek for one might be:
He wants to stay as a swordsman. If he gets to have a logia type DF he might see this as a cheating towards his goal.
He has a chance of controlling the fire as of right now with Kinemon's style. Although by cutting it not producing it.
But still your point stands, which i find plausible too.
