@Big_Bad_Lith:
just caught up. I like this much more than SnK. I compare the two because I feel like they get mentioned in the same breath a lot, or at least before Shingeki totally blew up this past year with the anime and all. But before then, they were both "violent new manga where ANYONE CAN DIE with brutal MMA action, humanity against an uncanny valley humanoid unfeeling horde, also they fight them by transforming into what they fight"
but terra actually commits itself to cool action and hype-building narration that gives me goosebumps like only Baki and HxH do. and after the first volume, the random deaths slow down and the actual story starts. I also appreciate how the theme is about humanity conquering the stars, it may be shallow but I always enjoy "fuck year human spirit" stories. the mantis shrimp boxer's fight is an excellent example of this.
whereas SnK just kind of runs around in a poorly drawn circle, refusing to actually advance any plot elements or answer any questions, still relying on SUDDEN DEATH HOW SHOCKING, and spends not nearly enough time with the fight scenes that the author can clearly handle well, choosing instead to focus on a bunch of people I don't like conspiring against other people I've never heard of.
Funny, I felt the exactly the opposite with Terraformars from what I read (I did continue a little past ch. 15, but by then AoT had me hooked, for example). It's also pretty racist with it's designs. Didn't really get any meaning out of it and for some reason it always had the cute girls killed. (It's a lot more even in AoT, I feel). Left me completely cold. -shrug-
It does look better, though. I give it that.
Though, I'm curious, what's the point people consider the series so to say "picks up", for those who keep up with it?
