feeling a meat like playing Piano.!!..that's over the top…:getlost:
a nice chapter though.... -
Hahaha, I can't get enough of the over-the-top metaphors and comparisons that gets used in manga like the piano/meat thing in this chapter.
Also, "sensibility"? Seriously mangapanda? I really hate those guys.

The scans aren't done by mangapanda, what's wrong with sensibility?
That's actually the word that was in the raw and I understood it as that she is very sensible towards temperature, so dunno if there is a better word for it by I don't feel it's wrong. -

That's actually the word that was in the raw and I understood it as that she is very sensible towards temperature, so dunno if there is a better word for it by I don't feel it's wrong.Sensitivity is the correct word. Sensibility has nothing to do with being able to feel physical things well, only emotions and feelings.
Is english not your first language? I don't mean any offense, I'm just interested.
-
Except, Erina actually says sensibility IN ENGLISH in the raw.
That's what he means. -
You can see what they were going for with sensibility, but it's just a classic bit of misuse of english on the author's part. Props for trying though
Anyway, great chapter, Ikumi continues to make my perversions clear whenever I post in these threads, and if I'm gonna make an extreme statement it was easily the best thing in Jump this week. There's something about Tadokoro, Soma and the don guy that just works nicely as a trio. It also continues the nice class war aspect of it, which I'm ridiculously into.
Couldn't be more excited for next week. Or the first volume in April, at that.

Is english not your first language? I don't mean any offense, I'm just interested.
Nope english isn't my first language, it's my second. It's weird though I'm pretty sure that I've read the word in context of physical receptiveness in english books(from english authors). First and foremost I've always had the impression that it's rather linked to being suspectable to stimuli of any kind.
That is if we talk about sensibility and sensitivity, the distinction between sensible and sensitive, to my knowledge is clearer.
That said the reason might be antiquated use(or the more disheartening possibility of it slipping by some editors) and I may have picked it up from some older works, so If you're sure of it that the difference in meaning here I'll take you up on it and will be mindful of it in the future. Thanks for pointing it out.
And yes thx aohige for making it more clear what I meant.
-
If you're sure of it that the difference in meaning here I'll take you up on it and will be mindful of it in the future. Thanks for pointing it out.
Yeah I'm quite sure. Here's the distinction in english:
-sensitivity is more general. It means receptiveness to touch, taste, sound, emotion, pain, etc. Could basically refer to ease of feeling anything really
-sensibility is more specific. It means receptiveness to feeling/emotions/ideas, not physical thingsAlso thanks guys for pointing out it was the mangaka's mistake.
-
Try putting it into a sentence. The connotation is pretty different. I.e please be more sensible vs please be more sensitive.
-
Also, aside from the physical and emotional difference,
Sensitivity can be applied both actively and receptively, whereas sensibility is pretty much stricktly receptive. The problem is, the word used in Japanese, 繊細… can imply either of those two.
It can mean a physcal delicateness, or emotional sensitivity or sensiblity, depending on context.
So I'm not surprised the writer didn't know the English differences. -
It's not only Japanese. French also uses the same word 'sensibilité' for both.
-
I just started reading this manga and hit a cliffhanger >_>

It is most commonly meant in regards to emotions, but another definition is "the ability to receive sensations". So DarthAsthma is also not wrong :p

I congratulate you on your ability to use google, but 99.99% of the time people use it in regards to emotions. Since English wasn't his first language I was trying to help. Using it for other meanings will just confuse people you are talking to.
If it was a translation the translator should have used sensitivity but since it's in the original manga I'm totally cool with it being left there since it was the author's choice.

Ya, I was agreeing with you, dipshit.

Does anyone has a link to the raw chapter?
-
Ummm, I'm a terrible (TERRIBLE) cook, with a next to nothing knowledge about cooking. So is there anyone here who's a real chef? (or at least knows a lot about cooking).
Because I've been curious as to how much of the stuff in this manga is actually doable (and true). I mean from the sound of it, the author knows what he's talking about. But still, I'm quite curious.

About that, Morisaki Yuki, a gastromonist, is credited as a collaborator. That's why the cooking seems so authentic.
16 characters of quoting info.
-
Ooo. Nice, so that means it's actually doable. Anyone of u tried Souma's recipe?
-
I'm no great cook by any means but souma actually doesn't feature recipes(for that it would need to list a specific ingredient table for every dish) it features some nifty trick when cooking. Maybe someone that knows to cook really well could reverse engineer these dishes but I doubt anyone else could do anything real with what was shown.
-
What, you're trying to say Chaliapin Steak is not real?
Because it totally is. Teito Hotel created the menu decades ago, and has been a popular dish ever since.EDIT: Chapter 13, loli Nikumi is OLEV
-
Chinese scan is out : Link
By the way, this is Morisaki Yuki : Pic1 Pic2  -
! Nikumi is adorable as a child. Hope she and the Don Club are recurring throughout the series.
! And Dang! Morisaki Yuki is pretty hot herself -

No I'm saying that your everyday person that just knows enough about cooking to live alone won't be able to make it after reading the souma chapter.
I'm fairly convinced that without an ingredient list of the dish and some additional instruction like maybe time specification of how long things are supposed to cook and such one would be pretty lost. Bottom line what is displayed in soma aren't recipes just neat techniques used in cooking and I don't think that's enough(for the normal person) to really make these dishes. But then you could google these dishes after reading the chapter.

It would be cool if the volumes includes the recipes.

And I was just trying to help, but feel free to start insulting people.
-
I find myself hoping that the reason volume one's taking an extra month compared to the other newbies is so it can have the recipes tossed in. It'd be a helluva reason to get people on board for the collected editions.
-
There's gotta be a meme in kanichi's expression when he tries to make souma and nikumi the new don of the don rs.
!
Bottom right panel. -
Chapter 13 is out

For the life of me, I can't find a Chaliapin Steak recipe online (one that I can read anyways). I tried making one using what info I could find (including the stuff from the chapter 11) but for sure it definitely wasn't the meal it should have been.
-
There are thousands of recipe pages for it.
All in Japanese.http://www.ntv.co.jp/3min/recipe/20010615.html
http://www.kyounoryouri.jp/recipe/14352_シャリアピンステーキ.htmlEDIT: Hmm, give me a sec, I'll give you the low-down on it.
-
Thanks Aohige! This recipe looks better than the one I tried to decipher.
-
meal for two:
Meat: Sirloin or fillet
Onions: Two
salt, pepper
butter
red wine 1/2 cupFirst, make sure and prep the meat as so
Put cuts in them, and pound it (important) to be soft and thin.Either dice one of the onions into fine pieces, or use a shaver to shave it.
Dip the steaks into the shaved/diced onions, and marinate in it for 30min to an hour.
(tip: Saran wrap it so the juice will completely seep in) The cuts you made in stake will will also work well here in absorbing the onion juiceWhile that's being prepped,
slice or dice (which ever you prefer, I prefer sliced) the other onion.
Melt butter on a frying pan, and stir-fry the onions on high heat. salt & pepper them as necessary, and stir until browned.
Now set it aside.Pull out the meat and remove all the shaved onions off it. Salt & pepper the steak.
Wipe the frying pan, and melt butter and/or vegetable oil, and heat on high.
Cook the steak fast, on both sides. Cook however you like your steak.Once you cook both steaks, remove the steaks and place them on the plates. Do not rinse off the frying pan.
Instead put the diced onions you cooked earlier back in, and let it mix well with the meat-juice left in the pan, over weak fire. Add red wine to the mix (optional).
Once the sauce has been absorbed into the onions, place them on top of the steak. There you go, a Chaliapin Steak.
-
LOL. All I read from Aohige's translation is:
1). Take meat
2).
3). Chaliapin Steak
Anyway. New Chapter: A bit surprised Souma didn't join Don RS. But it's for a better story I guess. That way we'll get different types of food
-
The Don RS Don trying to hand the title over to two different people was hilarious.
-
Loved this chapter.
I know Erina is hinted to be the "woman that will make Souma a great chef" (Souma's father secret to be good chef in chapter 1) but right now I'm rooting for Megumi or Nikumi (2nd choice).
On another note, I hope than in the future, Jump decide to do a crossover featuring their chefs (Sanji, Souma and Komatsu).
-
The food in the manga looks so much better than in reality. Soma´s don looked like a masterpiece, the reality version was just a steak with a lot of onions on top of it, not that i care about appearance when it comes to food.
-
So yea, this series will continue to be placing pretty high up in the ToC for a while.
-
There you go, a Chaliapin Steak.
Great! Thanks a lot!
Gotta make it again at some point in the future. -
Center Color three weeks in a row confirmed. HOLY SMOKES.
!
-
Thx for the spoiler pic but now I'm super curious about what's going on. Is Souma trying to make friends with erina? Or is he building some bonds to the people he already met? Or something entirely different? Need moar context… Damn why are the raws for this always so late...
