Y'know, to be honest, I completely forgot about Kung Fu point there for a second, and anyways, what I said was just a random suggestion, I was simply trying to say we need someone different. I'm not so sure Jinbei is going to join, I'm kind of in the camp that says that he'll probably die at the hands of someone like Big Mam before he can join. Going into FI I was hoping they would meet a fishman that quickly became pals with the SH and he would join, but obviously that never happened.

Both the former marine and logia type suggestions are fantastic options I hadn't quite thought of yet. Hopefully that will happen in the future, because that would for sure fill out the strawhat pirates very nicely. I still suspect Kinemon's comrade is our next nakama, and the fishman idea still isn't out of the realm of possibility, so yeah.

for the sole reason the smoker is "luffy's garp" (which could very well be coby or luffy dont have garp to start with) and smoker staying in the marines forever (it will be priceless if smoker does leave the marines, i say its a high probability)

i can see the reason why you think tashigi is out and smoker is probable, since its almost impossible for 2 people to join at once.

smoker saw the strawhats value nakamaship and trust in each other (when they trusted their nakama's outside will save them and when they saved each other, including him from drowning….aokiji saw the strawhats value nakamaship and trust as well: smoker is exactly like that, he values nakamaship deeply and to prove that, though full of pride and hardheaded, in this arc, he sacrificed himself and not fought doflamingo to keep his crew getting murdered.

im pretty sure he sees that in luffy now and sorts out that his hate for pirates and how he views pirates could not be applied to luffy. (remember how the strawhats wont board the SAD tanker and waits for everyone to arrive before doing so, and smoker telling tashigi to save the crewmates. they got the same principles: self-justice and nakamaship)

that's one of the reasoning for my theory, and much more. there had been hints and smoker fits perfectly to the criteria of a strawhat, i believe the only thing stopping him from being one is him being a marine, but the way things are going, i wont be surprised if he quits/gets fired soon. (and with the depth of major characters in the series not to mention character dynamism its most probably we know their dream and tragic past–--especially with tashigi, which kinda bothers me since her dream was specifically mentioned since the start of the series, if you think about it, she can only fulfill her dream if he travelled freely among the seas and being a marine is not the way to travel like that.)

but then again, the arguments of those guys will circle back again to "smoker is luffy's garp" or "you want tashigi because of boobs" :/

Well said ALMOST, One Piece is really unpredictable so anything can happen and yeah Smoker and his beliefs fits right into the SH crew and I don't think he'll get fire, most probably he'll quit after learning some dark secrets of the WG/Marines even though he knows that they are not clean, he really don't know what is going down like Donflamingo's business in SA, the Marines like Garp/Senguko and the admirals knew about it but they didn't do shit because the Tenryuubito were involved, so that makes me believe that If Aokiji doesn't take Smoker now and he returns to the Marines and make his report about what he knows he may even get killed for that but Smoker realized that he need to step down now and start making his own justice like Aokiji and may be the next time we see him, he'll be stronger and will join the crew.

PS:May be Tashigi stays at G5 as an ally and help them deal with reports the G5 received so the A.M can take care of it from the outside

Smoker could fit right into that. His logia isnt over powered at all, be it that I would prefer an earth logia on the crew. So for now I can see smoker joining as well as Jinbe. Kinemon and his son are close but I'm not sure yet.

I don't think any Marine, current or former, really has the desire to pull down the World Government. At the end of the day, the World Government does a lot of good. It's just that elements of it allow for corruption and darkness, sometimes specifically to support the greater mechanism.

I mean, if the World Government was destroyed… there would be widespread chaos and war. We follow the stories of pirates and revolutionaries but there are a LOT of people that rely on the World Government to protect them. Anyone in the Marines who left would, at best, be like Aokiji, following their own sense of justice, not turning around and deciding to destroy (basically) the world.

This is partially due to my own beliefs that there is going to be two world governments by the end of the manga. i agree with you on that, though my take is three sides on the final war:

1 is the side of the current WG (gorousei, akainu) (coby on the side of them but is neutral)

2nd is the side of monkey d. dragon and the strawhats

and 3rd is the side of the former officers which would take over once the WG is brought down (aokiji, garp, sengoku)…in a way this faction will ally with the second group.

Smoker? A character nicknamed White Chaser is going to stop chasing? His very reason for existing in the Grand line let alone the New World is that Luffy is the one that go away. Will Smoker end up treading the fine line for the mugiwara? On multiple occasions, he has a high chance of betraying the Marines, but becoming a pirate? Never!

On the other hand, you have Aokiji who instantly increases the man power of the Mugiwara and has no one really, see that's the other thing, without Smoker, the G5 fall back to being denigrates. Aokiji believe in doing what's right and going with the flow, is there anything more befitting for the Mugiwara crew?

What'll be interesting is finding out whether he's as powerful as he once was or not. I think that in Smoker's defeat to Doflamingo, we know that Luffy isn't quite at New World level yet and Aokiji obviously is, we'll see Luffy prove that he's surpassed Aokiji, or at least the level of Aokiji he previously fought in the next arc and at that point Aokiji can join. It's just like the fact that Jinbei won't join until such a point that there's no question he's stronger than the Monster Trio in the mind of the readers. Well the readers that don't make threads to say things like "Nami/Robin/Franky/Chopper are now stronger than Sanji".

Smoker thinks about such consequences, but does Aokiji? Aokiji knew that Robin had the potential to do so, but wanted her to live and be happy and was willing to take her life because she failed to grasp happiness. His idea of justice is like water, it fits whatever the situation in front of him is. That's exactly what the Mugiwara are like. They see something wrong, they'll fix it, but ultimately they just wanna relax, have fun and see the world and help each other achieve their dreams. Of which I should state that none of them are attempting to bring down the World Government. The closest you get is Robin and hers is simply to know the missing history.

I don't really see Smoker joining the straw hats, and I definitely don't want him to.

He may be a rebel among marines but he's still one of them trough and trough. He believes in justice and wants to make world a better place, not just wander aimlessly at the sea without a care for it. Not to mention that if he became a pirate he would be making enemies with every marine comrade he has. He might get fired in the future but personally I would see him becoming either bounty hunter or maybe join the revolutionaries. Or joining Aokiji in whatever he's doing.

But who knows, maybe he'll become a strawhat. I just really hope he doesn't. Marines need good persons like him.

I was mostly talking about marines he knows personally, like Hina or G-5. And bounty hunters don't technically work in the marines. It's not even an official job. They are just freelancers who take down pirates whenever they feel to.

I consider Luffy to be at new world level. Just like he was at grand line level but in up receiving a beating from Croc who was a top dog in the first half

with he's partnership with sanji he seems around the same level with them.

Bounty hunters doesn't work for government. They just capture criminal.

And it's normal he hates Dragon since he hates criminal.

And seriously joining the strawhats would just be strange since well his goal in life is to capture them. He came all the way to the New World for that only. I really don't see affection in his behavior with the strawhats.

It's like him helping Law with his heart. At marineford he had no debt. He pound Luffy without a moment of hesitation. He would be free to chase after who he want and use the method he want. And sure Pirate hunters work for money marines to. That won't preserve them from acting for justice.

He wanted to catch him because he's the only pirate who have escape from him. That hasn't change as shown at marineford.

! again, he said to tashigi "find your own justice" while basically letting the strawhats have their way into alabasta, not meddling even once in the fight with crocodile…it showed the he trusted the strawhats' actions. he did the same at punk hazard and even scolding his men when they drew the line on snow...all he wanted was to stop them from being attached to the pirates, because they are marines...those things i mentioned, he didnt do that entirely just because of debt...he knows when someone is a threat....if you will notice, his hatred for pirates is always shown in the beginning of the arc and his changing views at the climax of the arc...every arc he's in is a character development stuff for smoker.
! in the marineford war, pride is at stake, even garp fought luffy.

! but the problem is he dont like dragon, even if he change he wanted to be a revolutionary, the fact that he was pursuing luffy makes him on dragon's sh*tlist, again (as i told before) luffy will be the only idiot who will prolly recruit and trust a rival.

Well I suppose since he never explicitly said, "I LIKE YOU Johnny and Yosaku, you're my friends!" some folks mistakenly assume he doesn't like them at all. It's an honest mistake though since their friendship was remarkably subtle. It's not like they did anything to warrant Luffy's friendship. Nothing at all…

On the other hand we know Luffy and Smoker are like peas in a pod. Smoker is just being a silly yandere.
