EDIT: Nevermind. :ninja:
-
Apparently, TV Japan's airing of One Piece episode 207 has Mirai Koukai intact. Weird.
(TV Japan is a Japanese-language channel available on Dish Network and some US cable services. They're airing One Piece from episode 207, in Japanese, with FUNimation's subtitles).
How weird. I wonder if the ending song was subtitled….
-
The ending song was subtitled

FUNimation Translation Lyrics:
As today's wind blows
toward the distant orange horizon, we cross the early morning sea
We focused so much on tomorrow that we couldn't sleep
because nothing can stop that kind of passion
There will be hopes, setbacks, and the like
but for now, we just have to start from zero
We wound up completely dreaming at some point
If we stretch our hands out far in search of our dreams
and keep that never-setting sun in our hearts
I'm certain we'll get there somedayEDIT: Special thanks to Puto for getting me the video, btw.

Then…....wtf? I thought the whole problem was they wouldn't get the rights to air that ending... But if they subbed it, then... wtf?
-
So does someone tweet that to funi to get that theme potentially removed or do we zip our lips.
-
I'm not up to speed on these details, but could this mean that they finally got the rights?

As for the trailer, Lucci's voice is perfect, but I'm kind of annoyed that they spoiled everything for new fans. Told my girlfriend not to watch the trailer. It isn't like everyone knows this plot twist, not like the Franky thing.
-
Perhaps it's only part of a deal that includes broadcast rights and not home release rights?
-
^ But the ending was removing from the subbed episodes that were streamed at Funimation.com too.
By the way, is this "TV Japan" based in Japan or here in the US? Could it effect any TV deals made here in the US?
Regardless, this whole situation is getting quite bizarre. I'm going to take a grain of salt and hope that this means that Toei's gave them the go-ahead to starting dubbing the songs again. (crosses fingers)
-
Me too, hopefully this is some kind of good sign for the future. Regardless this is pretty interesting.
-
This TV Japan is based in New York City, they also air Detective Conan as Case Closed with Funimation subs
-
I am intrigued. This proves that FUNimation not only HAS the video for this ending, but also subtitled it.

Post that in the Anime discussion…. this is the FUNi thread.... not the place for it.
I hope to ENERU that that isn't the opening song.
-
I figured that. I meant to place it there and not here. ^^;;
-
No, Conan airs raw.
-
Oh, yeah I just saw that but they used to have subtitles for the earlier episodes. They use funimation's logo
-
It seems Funi is calling Sogeking both Sogeking and Sniper King. In the episode 258 title, they have called him Sogeking, while in the episode summary they have it as Sniper King.
-
I'm guessing the Sniper King thing is just a goof since both the titles and subs keep Sogeking. They've called Robin "Nico" on episode summaries before.
-
About a month left. Maybe a bit more. Astoundingly, I still haven't watched the last episode on the set. Cant wait for the next one.
-
You guys are so lucky, having the access to Water 7. I still haven't gotten the DVDs. Certain… difficulties are preventing me from getting them (for one, I don't live on the North American continent). I was waiting years and years to see the arc and to see my favorite character get fleshed out in English. I purposely avoided the manga versions. But oh well, if I was that patient before, I can wait longer until I can import them.
I'm still hoping the Opening gets a dub eventually...
-
-
Your sig after your statement makes it all the better lol.
-
May I ask, why not? It's just because I want to avoid spoiling the entire story of the CP9 Saga. I'd rather watch the anime version first.
-
Hey guys, long time lurker here. I really can't wait for voyage 4 to come out! I don't read the manga or watch the subbed version, so you guys can imagine the suspense I'm facing Too bad they are releasing it in March instead of February, because we might have had it by now.
-

It's universally agreed upon that the anime has pacing problems. The manga is created by the original author, while the anime is simply an adaptation. The manga is better, though I certainly understand preferring to hear a character's voice and see them move on a screen. I'd recommend reading the manga first because it is better executed due to better pacing and its containment of the original vision.
-
Oh, I agree that the anime has pacing problems. Not to mention it will get hard for me to get used to the new HD/Widescreen format when I was so in love with the previous format. Still, I have a tendency to read the manga versions too fast and zone out during important moments. And any action scene in the manga version I just can't follow. All due respect to the master story teller Oda.
Now when it comes to the artwork itself, the manga is superior.
I'll admit, I only started reading it after the Time Skip :p Don't bash me for that.
-
All the good stuff, except for Punk Hazard, is pre- time skip. Go back and read. It's never too late.

Trust me the HD/widescreen transfer is MUCH better than the previous format, you'll get used to it instantly i'm sure. I agree you should try to go back and read the manga, it's always good to see the original as well as the anime adaption, so that way you can compare the two and notice some of the differences.
I take it you don't read much manga, but just try and take your time and go at your own pace. When it comes to the action scenes study the panels for a little longer and exmaine the artwork more thoroughly. I'm not saying spend half an hour on a panel(although with some manga that still wouldn't be enough to absorb everything) but just enjoy it and go at a steady pace. Some people skip through mangas so fast they miss most of the meaning and story, as well as the artwork expressed by the author.

Not a lover of fishman island I take it?

Reading the manga and then watching the anime has its benefits. One obvious example is experiencing the same content through two different mediums, but later down the road (especially now) the pacing of the anime gets slower and slower, so reading the manga has more benifits (like, you know, being the foremost way of experiencing the story).
Granted, and I'm sure we can all agree, that the fights adapted in the CP9 saga are beyond awesome.
Moral of the story: we can't wait for the next set!
-
Honestly sometimes I prefer watching the anime over reading the manga. Sure it sucks that it's one chapter per episode but sometimes with the manga there's too much information on one page.

Try reading a book.

Don't read Death Note if you think that way. Lots of dialogue is a good thing in my book, you just need to slow down your reading. One Piece has more dialogue than most shonen manga because it has more story. I enjoy dialogue chapters ten times more than fighting chapters.
Haven't seen the cp9 fights, Samwise. Good to hear that they're good. I'd heard they were slow and took forever to finish, but if they're well adapted, I suppose it doesn't matter too much if they're long.
-
If it's any indication, I cried just as hard reading the Luffy/Usopp fight in the manga upon my first time reading it. So the manga can be just as powerful if you have enough care for the characters and enough imagination. Both versions have their goods and bads. For the manga, the only "bad" I'd say is the lack of music and voice acting/animation, but that's simply preference in style.

I don't see how reading a book would help, that's a different medium. When I'm reading a manga I'm judging it differently. With a novel it's literally all the written word with the golden rule of "show don't tell". A manga is a series of pictures that's all tied together with dialogue and sound effect words. And when there's too dialogue on one page it bogs down the flow of the illustrations themselves. I appreciate it when with a manga you get a good idea of what's going on when you skim through the drawings without reading the words first and you get a good idea of what's going on. In certain chapters of "One Piece", it doesn't happen that strongly.
Don't get me wrong, I love the whole package of "One Piece", it's just that last time I was reading "One Piece" (I've been on manga hiatus lately) I didn't get as good of a sense of visual flow that I'd like out of it. I read one volume of "Death Note", and the amount of talking wasn't a problem in and of itself because I felt there was good balance between the drawings and the amount of writing on each page.

what's this talk of not reading manga before anime?prepostorous!
well,it's your choice, though i strongly suggest to read the manga.good quality scans are much better for viewing,or reviewing.
if you do decide to read manga,i recommend downloading instead of reading online,if you don't plan on reading the physical manga.also, avoid the alabasta arc/jaya arc for reading now. -
Just go to vizmanga.com if you want to read it digitally. Well as long as you live in America or Canada.

I think the Anime still has good pacing until Thriller Bark.
Because the majority of episodes were still more than 1 chapter per episode.
It's the start of Thriller Bark and Toei's apparent refusal to do any more lengthy filler arcs that really starts to make things crap.I know people hate filler arcs, but they're a necessary evil. Doing a fair bit of filler, maybe 30 episodes between every canon Arc, would help IMMEASURABLY by letting them pace the canon stuff well.
I'd rather have a bunch of stand alone filler episodes I can skip with good paced Canon than to have 1 chapter per episode pacing with tons of plot killing filler inserted into the canon plot.

Agreed, but I think 30 might be a bit too much. I think they could get away with 15 or so. That would help enough, probably.
-
A lot of people say Thriller Bark, but I think Sabaody was the last decently paced arc in the anime
-
Since I don't watch the subbed version, I haven't encountered the bad pacing yet. However, a friend of mine who does watch it subbed says that the pacing is bad when you watch it weekly especially, but if you marathon episodes then it isn't too bad.
-
The sad thing is that they have material they can work with such as the cover stories. I kept saying how they should have done ALL of the cover stories inbetween the timeskip to avoid doing filler while still giving the allusion of time passing and gaining more length from the manga.
-
I agree that Sabondy was the last well-paced arc for the anime. Things obviously slowed down at Ennis Lobby and we had all of those dreadfully long recaps at the beginning of each episode, but the episodes themselves progressed pretty well. Thriller Bark started off slow but picked up pretty well toward the latter half of it. Sabondy, like I said before, was very well done and is in fact one of my favorite arc in the anime. Then Amazon Lily started and it all went to crap, and that's where we've been since then…I miss the olden days.
But I'm thinking that when the dub reaches that point, it might not be so bad, plus you can marathon the episodes (which I will at full blast), so thing can go faster.

Fixed.
Oh God. I'm turning into Rin. :ninja:
