I saw that and also the individual games are $8 each if you want only one game, I bought the first one
-
are some items rare in the game?
somehow on the bioshock stage it ended up being a Medusa head instead of the usual shield or Scythe purple item.
also.. do characters you pick effect the backgrounds as well? -
Jep, the medusa item is a rare spawn. Because it can give you a kill without using a super.
Characters normally don't affect the background (not that i know of), but i know there are some Easter Eggs in some levels.
I did the Hades level once, and suddenly a plane from Ratchet and Clank flew past Hades.
Also had a few times where the orb boxes where replaced with the god of war crates. -
http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/12/12/playstation-all-stars-job-listings-sequel-or-dlc
Apparently they are Sony is hiring for PS All-star Battle Royal related. Question is if it's DLC or a sequal. I myself would think it is DLC.
-
It would in no way surprise me if it was a new one. But I'm hoping it would be DLC.
If it is a new one then there's no way I'm paying for the older one. Even if it is speedily getting to the bargain bin (only been out a few weeks and already a lot of stores are selling it for £20.)
-
Not sure if that's bargain bin so much as the general cycle of games at this end of the generation. I've seen deals for new, decently-selling games like Borderlands 2, Dishonored, and Assassin's Creed 3 for around $30 lately, which makes it hard even for a sucker like me to put up full price for anything.
-
yeah I know what you mean. I got Hitman Absolution for £23 about 2 days after release. And now it's down to £20 pretty much everywhere. I'm sure I've seen Far Cry somewhere cheap too. There's even rumours of some of the Wii U ports like Batman being down to £25 already in some stores.
-
Will note that all the games mentioned have pretty strong upcoming DLC selections (AC3, at least, has a Season Pass). Wonder if it's becoming more cost-effective to reduce the cost of the original game then try and make the DLC more attractive.
-
SOOOO, back to All-Stars …
Have gotten more adjusted to Toro and Spike, to the point where I can now reliably win matches in ranked. However, it still feels incredibly difficult to score a lot of kills compated to other characters like Sly, Drake or Ratchet with their incredibly reliable supers.
Max I can get with any one super is three kills, and for level 1 and 2 it requires absurd timing depending on the stage. Heck, against good players getting two kills is a good job. Meanwhile other characters can pull in 4-6 kills with level 2s and 3s. And it's not even just the characters I use ... Jak's level 2 feels absurdly slow and useless and the range of his level 1 is ridiculous. I really really hope they find a way to adjust these characters so they can actually either have more priority and speed in their supers or greater range. Then again, is it just me sucking at getting kills? Anyone else having this issue with ranked matches?
Oh, and as an aside, I want to get into 1v1 and see what it's like against human players. Anyone here interested?

Highly doubt it's a sequal. Noticed on Vgchartz that this game seemed to have bombed big time. Like only 200k or so and selling barely anything right now. Barely making top 100 sellers right now during holiday season and it just released.
Doubt they made their money back on this.
Very surprised. I mean people have been clammoring for the other systems to have their own Smash since Smash debuted, and yet when they finally get one, no one buys it?

Well the very same people were probably hoping for particular characters to show up in a "sony exclusive"-ish Super Smash game. Once they saw the roster, they probably lost interest (much like myself). However, I'm still keeping an eye on it in case any new dlcs convince me otherwise. With Nintendo, they pretty much nailed nearly every one's favorite franchise (and more) in the game, but this game is really…meh in terms of the roster. Though I'm not going to go into it since the roster has been discussed to death everywhere.
Also correct me if I am wrong, but I think the timing was pretty bad for this game. Wasn't there something else really big that was released during the same time? I can't put my finger on it at the moment though.
-
Was only released a few weeks back. (Nov 21st or so here.) so I think it was same date as Hitman and Lego Lord of the Rings. But still was released during big game season, and depending on where you lived there was a new console just out/coming out.
-
Just looking at the recent game charts in Europe is depresing.
Unless you're a Shooter or Soccer game, you're not getting in the top 20.
And new IP's don't get given a chance. People rather play CoD 15, than something different.
Even the new WIIU (A NEW! console) games sold like crap, and it had a new Mario game.Makes me kind of sad for the future..
-
The new Paper Mario got straight into the top 40 charts….at 40. It's bad enough that we randomly got it a month later than US but also seems doomed to die a slow painful death.

I think it kind of goes to show what's the lasting appeal of most of these franchises that did get included in the game. There are a few good ones, but the when I look at the cast, nothing really screams "iconic" or "memorable". Just "gritty" with an odd mix of characters that don't seem to fit very well together on a poster.

Totally agree, also in addition to the cast not being as appealing why have evil cole and good cole on the rooster that's just weird in my eyes(and pretty lazy in the eyes of casuals).
Sure they may play differently but why not have evil cole just be a costume dunno.
Just doesn't give a good impression for the first game of the franchise to already have look alike clones of fighters given that the rooster isn't that big to begin with. -
No game roster is worse than TMNT smash up.
What's that? Here's a thing that's "like the krang", a doctor robot that no one cares about, and a I shit you not, 3 Rayman Rabbits.
I plan on getting this, but yeah, this roster definitely is off putting.
I only want to play as… maybe 2 of the characters.
-
is Sly the only one whos taunt is helpful/cheap?
because everyone else just taunts while he can disappear -
Very surprised. I mean people have been clammoring for the other systems to have their own Smash since Smash debuted, and yet when they finally get one, no one buys it?
Yes. And Smash Brothers has great recognizable icons. Mario (and all the associated characters!) Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Starfox, Kirby, Pokemon, F-Zero, etc. All loved franchises with a bunch of characters to bring to the table. Heck, the Mario cast ALONE could have practically carried a game, they did in Mario Kart after all.
PS All Stars has… uhm... Sackboy and Kratos. (I've enjoyed playing Sly, but he's no Nintendo mascot.) The roster has a few characters that have been around for a few years, but... nothing terribly exciting or iconic... and many of them weren't franchises until the late PS2 or the PS3, they're still very new. Not the 20+ years established Nintendo icons. And in most cases, only the title character is memorable, they couldn't bring their casts along if they wanted to.
I mean, Parappa? Really? His games came out 15 years ago! Distinct looking sure, but... Heavenly Sword was a PS3 launch title and... no one cares about it at all. Uncharted and Infamous might be great games, but nothing screams "i'd like to play THAT guy in a smash brothers game!"
Hell, why is Crash Bandicoot not in there? Was he not once upon a time the wannabe Sony mascot? (Oh, because he went multiplatform.) Spyro? (Multiplatform...) Heck, get Kain and Raziel in there. SONIC? Come on, Sonic is a total whore, he'd be willing! Come on, throw some Sega goodness in there! Talk to Capcom, they aren't using Megaman!
So yeah. The big problem is the character roster is super limited by the fact all the really iconic characters branched out to multiplatform years ago, and Sony doesn't have any home brands on par with Nintendo's. There's NOTHING in the roster to make anyone excited.
So they're left with this REALLY ODD mishmash of a couple cartoony characters against super realistic tough guy characters, and it doesn't quite work. (Solid Snake as the odd man out in SB was fine, he was a late comer and a visitor.)
As for why the game is so cheap... well, hasn't Sony been making it free and a package bundle item in hopes of spreading it around? Of course that'll mark the game down fast.
-
Having finally played this for a while, will go on the record as saying this game feels unfinished/rushed to market. Menus are really barebones, the added features (minions and the like) have little to no impact, and some of the design choices really felt like they needed more polish. Add in the definite tuning issues at the beginning and I'm not sure they couldn't have used a few more months to get this out.
At its heart, it's a pretty fun brawler with some nice ideas, but I'm a little disappointed overall. Feels like it's on the border between a full-fledged game and a downloadable.
-
I've had a really annoying problem where i press a button while in the menus and the game will think i've pressed it twice. So when i'm moving through say the icon section i end up skipping a page by accident.
It's also a shame you don't unlock characters in this (which is a big grievance for me with fighting games) and the combat trials are the same for every character. Also the arcade modes first 5 matches are unnecessarily long.
But it is a fun brawler that's for sure
-
And 2 more DLC characters should arrive in march.

Issac and Zeus are the next dlc
-
Oh, beaten by a minute hahaha.
-
At first I laughed at Zeus being in since I never would have thought of it. But then recalled that he's probably the most major Sony villain (since they're not going with the older stuff.)
Woulda prefferred the old granny from Uncharted 3 myself. She has the ability of 'Do Nothing' or 'Make minions attack while they burn to death in a mansion/drown on a sinking ship'
-
Hmm Isaac Clark…screams "SONY" franchise to me huh?
-
Yea … Isaac and Zeus as DLC in this game was probably the most unremarkable news of today. I got a hefty laugh at seeing a top comment in IGN of someone saying how much Isaac and Zeus make them think of Sony.
-
Hmm Isaac Clark…screams "SONY" franchise to me huh?
People constantly say this in regards to third-party characters for this game, yet Smash Bros. did the same thing. It's kinda annoying.
-

That only happened in the 3rd Smash game and certainly not the debut title like THIS one. By the third one, the Smash serie has enough credibility to throw in some third party characters for publicity or fan service (however, it is still NINTENDO characters that are highlighted). You think for a game that emphasized the notion of "Playstation", they would throw in some iconic "Playstation" characters.
Isaac Clark, Big Daddy, DMC…just REALLY scream "Playstation" much like Crash and Spyro huh? I'm still waiting for them to throw in some other "Playstation" characters like:
Enzio, New Vegas Courier, the Dragonborn, and John Madden
-
The way I see it it's because people are still hoping for DLC to be more iconic Sony characters that for some reason were not already in the game.
Also, why are people still comparing this game and smash? Completely different things. Isaac Clark in this game is not even close to what it meant having Snake or Sonic in Smash Bros.
edit: All things considered, I did like the new DLC stage. Now that is iconically Sony, celebrating the past with MediEvil and the present with Unfinished Swan.
-
Shit, Isaac is the first DLC character I'm excited for. Zeus may be Sony exclusive, but he's the one I find to be a waste of space.
-

Crash and Spyro don't scream playstation either not anymore at least just like Devil May Cry.
-
Yeah, Crash went multiplatform (and all of them were garbage) years ago, and now Spyro has the money-making giant that is Skylanders. They're PlayStation 1 icons more than they are Sony icons.
-
They're still the Sony icons of the generation that got started with Sony. I can tell you for a fact I wouldn't give a rat's ass about playstation if it hadn't been for the great experiences with Spyro and Crash games. And a large chunk of Playstation's current fanbase probably feels the same because many of us were kids when those two got the Playstation going.
Sure, at present they're no more Sony icons than Ratchett and Jak and Sweet Tooth. But ffs, everyone should be able to agree they're more Sony icons than Isaac and Zeus (last one perhaps because I never cared for GoW), or Kat and Emmett, or half the roster.
And there's so many more characters that could mean more to a Sony franchise fighting game than Isaac or Zeus, however fun they may be. There's several untapped classic franchises (Gex, Croc, Tomba, Jersey Devil), and they could even have included characters from franchises already represented that mean a lot more (pretty much anyone from Tekken or Twisted Metal.)Not saying the game isn't fun. It is, and as a fighter I really enjoy it. But it's hard to deny that as the roster expands they have less and less of an idea of what the game is supposed to represent for Playstation. The DLC stages, however, have been doing a fantastic job at it, imo.
-
I don't agree with Zeus being in but he's probably the most memorable villain (or is that Kratos?) Sony has at the moment. Especially with a new God of War out in the next week or two. Isaac probably got in due to Dead Space just coming out.
It makes me wonder what we'll see next. As much as I feel classic Lara defines the Playstation brand more than most of the roster I have no objection to seeing her younger self in. Hell might actually buy the game if she is in. I have no doubt we see Generic Action Dude from Last of Us appear eventually too.
But really. It's not like Playstation don't have a heap of exclusives to go through. Ni No Kuni just came out, how about putting Oliver in (although I suppose having a kid being shot at is a no-no). Journey Guy could be fun too. (not sure how would work in a Beat-Em-Up tho.) How about someone from Disgaea? Or the Persona series? Even stretching back. We could have Cloud and Sephiroth. (I'm just naturally assuming that Square want nothing to do with this title since these two and Lara should have been priority third party after Crash and Spyro.) Croc? Gex? Chick from Parasite Eve? Toan (Dark Cloud) someone from Star Ocean? Tales Of? Suikoden? Wild Arms? Could look at how Capcom handled putting in Phoenix Wright to put in Scott Shelby from Heavy Rain perhaps? Sony were going on about how well Assassin's Creed Liberation did for the Vita. Why not add Aveline?
I'm assuming that Capcom wanted little to do with it either, cus someone from Street Fighter coulda been fun, same with Chris Redfield.
Nope. I think we'll see another set of DLC next month. If we don't see Lara then she's not coming. Would say otherwise it'll be someone to link in with Soul Sacrifice and whoever the boss is of the next God of War game. (if it's not Zeus) or like I said. Generic Action Guy from Last of Us (don't know his name. Jules?)
-
I'm pretty sure a lot of the reason more classic characters aren't in it is due to licensing fees/contracts. Activision now owns both Crash and Spyro, I can't say much for Crash but I'm sure Activision would charge outrageous fees for Sony to use Spyro in PASBR due to the success of Skylanders. I'm sure it is a similar reason for characters from Square-Enix. A lot of third-party characters that are in PASBR most likely got in through some means of negotiation. Such negotiations aren't really going to continue due to PASBR being deemed a failure. Why would Sony pay licensing fees for additional content for a bomb? Most likely newer characters like Isaac were agreed upon before the game fully launched.
-
I think part of the mistake was also in that they teased a lot of those characters before, in talks and in their facebook page when they were asking for input.
Then when they didn't make it into the roster, they mollified people with the promise of DLC. So, like it or not, every time there's the chance for DLC everyone will in the back of their minds be hoping for that awesome reveal. They could just go out and say, "hey guys, unfortunately there's no hope for us getting crash and spyro on the game, but we'll do our best to get other characters your want, or get them for the next game" There! Some blunt honesty so everyone knows where it stands. But they keep being vague about it in the hopes people will still care and keep waiting. Even though by E3 this game will probably be irrelevant to those outside the competitive groups.
-
Superbot was already working on Abe from Abe's Exodus (PS1).
So high chances he'll be next. -
People constantly say this in regards to third-party characters for this game, yet Smash Bros. did the same thing. It's kinda annoying.
Thats cause Nintendo had good iconic characters under their brand, that were all distinctly Nintendo brand name characters, that all fit together in style and feel, and with Mario and Link and Starfox and Metroid and Pokemon carrying the cast, it was okay when it branched out into obscure stuff like ice climbers or watch guy or whatnot… and it wasn't until the third game that they did the fanservice cameos. (Cause come on, Sonic has history and crossed over before, and Snake being the really bizarre odd man out stylistically is funny.)
The Sony group is just such a weird mishmash of characters people just don't care about in the same way, and its already pulled from so many different developers and styles anyway... (Half the cast are realistic human characters, and half are super cartoony short animals) t doesn't feel like any of them belong together. It doesn't feel like "These are SONY characters" its just "these are characters that happened to be on playstation in the last 15 years" and so it just feels more like either it needs stuff distinctly Sony... or it should just go crazy and get SOMEBODY people actually care about, since they're already pulling from a multitude of developers anyway. Since it both looks and feels like a random choice of characters (no one cares about "more or less on Sony platforms within the last 15 years") then people just want... something more definable to it.
-
I think I said this before, but the roster of this game seems better suited for a straight up traditional fighting game. Expensive as hell to make though, but I feel fighters that follow the Smash formula should atleast have a cast colorful enough to emphasize the exaggerated cartoon violence.
-
Have there been many other Smash Clones? I know of the Jump games and the One Piece Gigant Battle ones. But anything else just escapes me.
-
You'd be surprised. I think there's quite a bit. Aside from the ones you mentioned, there's Digimon Rumble Arena, Cartoon Netweok Punch Time Explosion,
And…
Wait..

Have there been many other Smash Clones? I know of the Jump games and the One Piece Gigant Battle ones. But anything else just escapes me.
There was an awful Ninja Turtles one that had the four turtles, April, Casey, Shredder, a foot soldier, and three Raving Rabbits.
-
@RobbyBevard:
There was an awful Ninja Turtles one that had… three Raving Rabbits.
Yeah I figured out why…can't get any more random than that in a thematic brawl game. It's like if Marvel made a brawl-esque game and threw in Mickey, Goofy, and Donald into the roster.
-
As well as konami's own semi smash bros with Dream Mix TV world fighters, that saw everyone from snake, simon belmont, and even optimus prime.
-
Awwwww snap, Digimon Rumble Arena has been mentioned! I was godlike with Renamon in that game!
Also, we still having "Smash Brothers Rip Off" arguments? Seriously?
-
Uhm..
We weren't arguing dude.
Unless we were, I dunno. -
Yeah, no arguing really. Just a nature progress the discussion took.
-
Gamestop just added an additional pre-order bonus to God of War: Ascension. Along with the King Leonidas and Mythological Heroes multiplayer skins you'll also get a voucher that unlocks Zeus and Isaac Clarke for PASBR, so if any of you are picking up Ascension and also play this game you might as well grab it at Gamestop.
EDIT: It appears this voucher comes with the Collector's Edition as well.
