You'll hate me for this, but I found it at a convention for 10. Luckily, I knew what it was worth. G8 arc was great, if you haven't seen it yet. Enjoy set 5.

How'd you contact them? I'm about to do the same.
Also is this really their English Facebook page? I ask since it hasn't been updated in months…
-
Just got a comment back from Mike McFarland. Complimented him on his directing and said I hope to see the themes dubbed by the end of season four. He says he hopes to see them return too.
-
Obviously not funimation's fault, but those Usopp vs Luffy episodes weren't nearly as good as the manga. What the hell, man? Let's stick 200 episodes worth of flashback in one emotionful episode. It completely interrupted the moments, and took me out of it nearly every time it happened. Damn, they screwed up.
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but the flashbacks worked great for me and did the opposite of what you say they did. The point was showing a contrast between the past and the present, and it worked beautifully.
About the 236 commentary, did anyone notice Brina totally spoiled Monster Chopper to the audience? I lol'd.
-

Right. I understand the point, but they overused it. About ten minutes of that thing were flashbacks. They interrupted the fight far too often for me. In the manga, there was only one set of flashbacks at the end. Next time you watch the episode keep an eye out for how many times it happens.

I wonder if they already dubbed the songs, and are holding them to the side in case they get the go-ahead. I also wonder, if once they work out the rights issues, if the later season sets can retroactively receive the dubbed songs.
-
That's what I'm thinking is the case. For the Russian dub (which has dubbed songs) they technically didn't even have the rights and didn't get the thumbs up from Toei until they were getting ready to put together the first DVD release. And there's also Mike saying with no hesitation on the OPP back in January that the songs will continue to be dubbed - which I think meant that at the very least Map of the Heart was dubbed or in the process of getting dubbed, "official" or not.

ONE PIECE DVD SEA 04 VOYAGE FOUR (C: 0-1-2) 3/20/2013 SRP: $39.98
Note: Previews list dates on Wednesdays. So I would expect the release date to be March 19th instead for S4V4. The actual solicitation could come later today or early next week.
-
….40 dollars???
-
Thats the retail store price (Best Buy, Fye etc.). Its probably going to be $27 - $32 on amazon and other online stores.
-
Well, my set FINALLY shipped. Goddamn.
I was hoping to get it by today, but it probably won't arrive until Monday. -_____- -
Man. March is so far. But it'll be worth it if the songs are dubbed for it.
-
If they were I feel we'd probably know about it though. I mean just within the past week we've seen from Mike and Charlene that as of now they don't have the rights. They know we'd like to hear the songs so if they did get it solidified I feel like there'd be no hesitation in them putting out the news.
-
Right, but if they get the go ahead from Toei, they can hurry up and put the dubbed songs onto this voyage if they've already made them, as some of you think they have.
-
That's true. I'm hoping for the best in this.
-
I wonder if there's any reason why it's march instead of feb. maybe to give them more time to work out a deal? It's an entire month late, not just a few days.
-
Both Mike and Charlene were pretty quick on tweeting us back, which has me thinking that they are trying to get this issue solved right at this very moment. Maybe it is the reason why voyage 4 is coming out so late in March?
And I finally just got my voyage! About time, jeeze that was like pulling teeth waiting for it to arrive. I've never had this much of a wait from rightstuf before.
-

I don't understand this logic jump.

I said that earlier. I hope it is.
As for waiting for the set, hopefully we'll get the next one at the end of feb. Im still convinced that end of the year sales and shipping were to blame for this late delivery.
-
The fact that they were so quick to answer back leads me to believe that the issue is fresh in their minds and that they currently taking the steps to try to get them back. If it was something they haven't been dealing with lately, I don't think they would have responded so suddenly.
Whatever, it's probably just me over analyzing again.

Pre-order listing is up @ TRSI S4V4: http://www.rightstuf.com/i/fun09483

Sweet! Got my pre-order all set :)
Now if only my S4V3 would get here. My tracking number's estimated arrival date was for yesterday and it's still not here. It doesn't have any updates past departing from Des Moines on the 11th. I guess things are just slow because of xmas but this is nerve-wracking!

And ordered. Only a couple days after my birthday too. Sweeet.
-
I debated ordering 2nd day mail this time. It got here later than it normally would've with the normal service. Whatever. I'll give it one more chance. Hoping to see this in Feb.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
12 episodes or 11 episodes on this set? I'm betting on 12. I know I'm against the flow on this one.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Was just looking at future episodes. Pretty much any way you spin it, Robin's past is going to be broken up over two sets. :/
-
I'm thinking about pre-ordering S4V4 from Amazon this time around. Should I go for it?

Can't hurt; you have plenty of time to cancel if a better prices pops up elsewhere.
-
I'll have the set later today.
-
Aaaaand it's here! Gonna have myself a blast! (And I've got some KnC lyrics cooking, so I'll post that soon.)
-
I'm a little bummed to hear that Jerry Jewel is no longer Kaku. I thought that was a really good fit. Oh well.
As for Franky, this is another voice that just makes the character seem completely different to me, kinda like Vale's Sanji, and not in the good way. Yeah Franky is big and muscular, but more than sounding like a gruff tough guy, he's supposed to come off as a charismatic weirdo. I don't think we're going to get that from Seitz but maybe it's too early to say. Just a shame since the main cast is pretty solid.
still buying of course.
-
I'm nearly through the set, and no doubt about it, Luffy/Usopp was some powerful stuff.
I certainly like Patrick Seitz as Franky well enough, especially when trading words with Luffy. My only problem was that he was hard to pick out vocally from all the other generic tough guys in Water 7; like shinpanman said, he's not currently showing a lot that sets him apart. Whenever he starts speaking off-screen, I have a tough time figuring out that it's supposed to be him until I see him, and I pride myself on being able to identify a voice. Hopefully that'll all change as he grows into the role and Franky's various quirks.
Everyone else I have no probs with. Alex Organ is especially well-suited as Kaku; I don't doubt Jerry Jewel would have worked, but it's great that they could give a fresh face a shot and give Jewel his own fair shot at Brook (though, to be honest, I just don't see it, but he could surprise me.)
-
I think Seitz is doing a wonderful job as far. I'm not a voice actor, so I don't really know how to explain it, but his pitch with the delivery of each line is just dramatic enough where it needs to be. Franky is quirky, but at this point, he's more of a tough asshole. He sounds like it.
I was going to say "you'll get used to franky and grow to love it", but if you haven't grown to like sanji after two hundred episodes…
-

Exactly. Though Eric Vale finally sold me on his Sanji during the argument with Zoro over who gets to be "the ball" in the Davy Back Fight. I feel like that scene really solidifies the chemistry between whomever's voicing them.
-
It took nearly two hundred episodes for that? Jeez. I tend to get used to voices after less than 50.
-
I've liked Sanji's voice from the beginning actually.
What was everyone's problem with it?
-
@Galaxy:

It doesn't sound quite..suave enough. It sounds more tough and punk-like like than smooth and gentlemanly.
I'm fine with it, of course, but those would be my complaints.
-
Makes sense, I suppose. Sauve over tough. The difficulty with a sauve voice is that it usually sounds pretty boy-esque. I remember thinking in that first Jaya funi dub episode that he and Zoro sounded too similar, but I was mistaken. Sanji's voice wasn't my favorite right off the bat, but it grew on me quickly.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I like Franky's voice too. I think everyone agrees he needs to be a bit higher, but we all think that'll happen in the coming episodes.
-
I always really liked Vale's Sanji. He has a broad vocal range for Sanji, from suave to rough to lovestruck. Honestly, I don't know if I'll get any hate for this, but I prefer Vale over Hirata, not to discredit the latter since he is very talented.
Franky so far sounds like what I expected him to sound prior to getting to the arc: rough, tough. His Japanese voice actor is hilariously awesome, but really I am enjoying the performance which Seitz is putting on. I want to get more of his Franky later because as people stated it's probably going to be sillier as is the Japanese version.
Additionally, to comment on Organ's Kaku, he sounds similar but not the same as Jewell. He's good and hopefully being in this role sets him up to do additional major roles in different anime!
-
I know this is going to sound nitpicky and a bit lame, but I've been put off on getting the S4 Voyages because of the lack of the dubbed songs. Is there going to be any chance of them rereleasing/reprinting the S4 Voyages with the dubbed songs once they reobtain the rights? I'm gonna be disappointed if Kokoro no Chizu is only dubbed on the collections or if it skips being dubbed at all. :\
-

Pretty much my thoughts. Not smooth enough. Obviously it doesn't bug me at this point, but like I said, quite a different interpretation.

Don't count on any of them being reprinted. It would just be extra money to print more of an old set. Maybe on collections if and when it gets to that point.
-
I wouldn't even expect it for collections, since they're strictly re-pressings of the original DVDs, flaws and all.
The most I would hope for is if they finally get the go-ahead for Blu OP releases, they'd do what they did for movie 8 and release the dubbed songs there.
-
Well that just stinks up my collection. :\ I really like having consistency, even though I know it's a minor thing to get worked up over. Eternal Pose and Kokoro no CHizu are like, my two favorite songs, though, and I was waiting on those english dubs, so having those jipped is such a dealbreaker to me.
-
Yoooo! I finally got it!
So excited to finally hear Water 7 in English! -
It's great. Enjoy it. As for the person who said they aren't buying because of the undubbed songs, see above post.

But, the actual dub itself is so very well done… the Davy Back Fight was absolutely amazing... Afro Luffy...
In other news, mine should be delivered today!!

I know the feeling man. I'm still pretty mad that stupid licensing issues is all that is holding up the dubbed songs. That's one of the reasons why I didn't go back and buy the few remaining Voyage sets that I was missing and just went straight on ahead and bought all the collections (it sure was expensive and it depleted a lot of my fun money, but it was worth it for One Piece).
You know it's funny that you guys bring Sanji up because I was just thinking about it the other day. I too feel that Vale's Sanji is a bit better than Hirata at times because while Hirata has the suaveness part of Sanji down, his whole lover-boy act just seems a little over-the-top even for One Piece and it just gets annoying after a while. I think Vale plays up the act just right and it's not so annoying.

I just watched a few clips of Funimation Franky on youtube. I hadn't really watched the dub since season 1. Is it me or have the voices gotten….kind of screachy and cartoony? I can't put my finger on it exactly....to me the voices just sounded worse somehow than before. Even Nami's voiced sounded kind of grating and over the top. I don't get why some anime dubs don't just have normal voices. Like...it seems some cartoons (Clone Wars, Adventure Time) and anime movies do a much better job with keeping the voices in the normal human range lol. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this way.
Personally I'm not buying the DVD's anymore because the series is just too long....and honestly, the animation itself really bugs me. I wish it was more fluid and kept pace with the manga. Really hoping for a Brohood style remake of the first part of the series with a different animation studio (like Madhouse) rather than Toei. I know it's unrealistic, but they could do the entire thing in 150 episodes or so (up through the Time skip).

^ Son, I am disappoint. :(

Posts like this annoy the hell out of me. The English dub voices don't sound any more zany and over the top than the Japanese ones. And Lucci Christian's Nami sounds very fluid and natural. I have no idea how her voice can annoy you.
And not buying the sets just because of the dubbed songs issue is equally dumb in my opinion. You should just keep supporting the series regardless. I can understand waiting a bit to see if they're reprinted I guess, but if you guys actually stop buying the sets altogether because of this…
-
A post you don't agree with annoy you? I already said I'm not trying to start a fight. No reason to get angry, I was just commenting on something that stood out to me having not seen the anime in a long while.
You make the assumption I like the Japanese voices when the truth is I simply haven't watched the anime subbed or dubbed. The most I've seen of the sub are a few of the movies. I don't speak / read Japanese at all so I feel like I'm not even qualified to accurately gauge the quality of the Japanese voice work anyway. I only compared the OP dub to some other English voice work (Clone Wars, Adventure Time) and some anime movies (Summer Wars) which I liked.
I also said I'm not buying the anime for a number of reasons, among which I never mentioned the dub voices. I don't like the (imo) poor and inconsistent animation quality which comes as a byproduct of trying to follow a weekly manga series. After season 1 I really just didn't feel like spending the money on any more of the anime. I do support the series -both color walks and all 65 manga volumes. I love the manga, but even in Japanese I'm not a big fan of the animation itself.
The reason I made this comment initially and the reason I still have any interest in the anime is related to Strong World. I guess I was just hoping the voices would sound a little more natural. I guess what stuck me was that even Luffy and Nami's voices seemed to be a bit more screachy and grating than they were back in season 1. I hope that me having this opinion doesn't make you angry. You don't have to agree with me. Again, I was just posting how I personally felt about the few clips I saw from season 4.
