@Rogues':
Shooting at an Elementary School in Connecticut. Multiple conflicting reports. Some reporting 3 injured, 1 dead (including the shooter). Another report states 27 dead, 18 of them children. Watching news coverage now. Waiting for official debriefing.

Damn, Zeph beat me to it.
Speaking of, Zeph, ain't you from Connecticut?
Yes I am, Newtown is right up in the hills not far above my town, my mom is an elementary teacher in Milford so I nearly had a heart attack until I saw it was Newtown. Plus I have a cousin in elementary in Trumbull….guh...just look at the maps at how close this all is to my kin and you can get an idea how I'm feeling right now...
And the death toll is rising by the minute as the local news is getting more....18 kids at least is fucking TERRIBLE. This is a K-4 school.

This is one of the many reasons I want to punch people in the face who sneer about how teachers are paid too much. Kid's drama, and they always have plenty, does not stay at home. There's always nutty neglectful awful parents the teachers have to deal with indirectly. My mom has talked about kids whose family are trying to hide from a crazy ex-husband. Shit like that. Custody crap and so forth. Ten thousand dollars this is that sort of shit. I hear about it too much.

Holy Shit, I can't imagine how you're feeling about this. Happening so incredibly close to you, and praying it wasn't the school where your mom worked. Just having that fear build up inside you, twisting your stomach until your hear more facts. Damn. My heart really goes out to ya man. Seriously.

News reports are calling this the worst school shooting in United States History.
Newtown is a beautiful hilly New England post card town with good money in it, it's beyond surreal hearing something like this happening there.
I'd be more expectent of this happening even in my town which is more downscale and semi-urban.
But holy hell man, this comes only a few days after that mall shooting in Oregon that killed two and the shooter himself. Which followed the tragic Aurora Theater Shooting.
What THE FUCK is happening to people?
oh God…all those families that lost their children....their only children.....before Christmas....that's just.....I couldn't imagine.....
Those FUCKING BASTARDS… what the FUCK? How could anyone do this? Those are kindergarden kids... what the FUCK has 5 year olds done to anyone?
Inhuman, utterly despicable act... holy fuck I am shaking... this is just impossible, just no WAY.
This is so horrible, I dont know should I weep or puke.
Another fucking shooting.
Sometimes…I wish I could dish out some Vigilante Justice--this being one of those cases. But, you know... Yeah.
I just walked by the thermometer and it turns out that it's actually pretty warm today at 46 degrees outside.
So I guess what I'm saying is I'm kind of shaken and numb physically right now. :/
News is saying that 27 death toll could be the result of a double-count. So don't know/unconfirmed if it's an official report. Still waiting.
scattered reports that the shooter was a 20 year old male. Also unconfirmed.
I just cant believe this has happened, my mind just refuses to accept that there is human beings capable of such a horrifying and inhumane acts of cowardism.
Universitys, schools and now Gindergarden? 5-10 year old KIDS, shot down like animals, its so fucked up that I cant put it in words. HOW could they? Just what kind of twisted fucked up motive you need to pull shit like this. I just cant accept this. They need to find why they shot them and pull that motive out of them so these kind of atrocitys can be prevented, then they should be put down like a rabid dogs.
There's no punishment proper enough for someone who does such a thing.
Don't tell me it's one of those bastards who kill just because they think it's the end of the world coming.
Another round of people demanding gun control regulations, the NRA trivializing the loss of life with empty condolences and a lot of twisting of the facts to distract people from taking their guns, weak-willed politicians too cowardly to do anything and ultimately nothing gets done until this incident too becomes another statistic. Except this time, the numbers on the paper are children.
I wonder if anyone will have the gall to say the children should have had guns on them to defend themselves. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised.
To be completely honest, the biggest surprise for me was that the shooter wasn't a child himself.
To be completely honest, the biggest surprise for me was that the shooter wasn't a child himself.
He's like a college student who had ties to the school so it's not quite all that removed.
It honestly sounds like a machine gun was used too.
I wish it had been a kid, all they ever do is bring guns they found and accidentally shoot like one person.
20 somethings can bring machine guns and take down 28 people in a go.

I talk so much about my state because I have a wierd urge to be more talken about, and now we have all the country looking at us because we have the worst school shooting ever and I don't really want any attention right now.. for some reason.
''Guns dont shoot people, people do''. NRA could go tell that those kids parents and tell them merry christmas. Something has to be done, we had two school shootings here in Finland and first happened in 9 km from where I live, but no shooting has ever been so devastiting and disgusting as this.
I am shocked and horrified, I dont think I have ever been so shocked by news, its just so impossible to imagine someone capable of doing such a horrible deeds. Something needs to be done, there must be much tighter gun control to prevent those kind of psychopats getting guns so easily, no way in hell those guys were any sane.
The NRA will do worse than that, they'll point out that Connecticut and Oregon (the mall shooting) are LIBERAL GUN CONTROL states or some shit.
To be completely honest, the biggest surprise for me was that the shooter wasn't a child himself.
I don't think a kid (~9 years old) could operate a gun, let alone shoot >20 people with it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Was he a former student perhaps?
I don't think a kid could operate a gun, let alone shoot >20 people with it.
There have been such shootings before, usually the kid found a parents gun and brings it show off, and as you say, doesn't know what they're doing and accidentally shoots someone or themselves.

Well, I just saw "school shooting" and assumed.
I didn't know they were so young, or that there were so many casualties. Like MK said, a 9-year-old would probably only shoot one person.

I've heard of those. Bad accidents that can be prevented by the parents (I assume)
This case is just disgusting. Did the culprit shot himself as well or is he still alive/on the loose?
Wow… this is utterly horrible and disgusting.
Something like this can really put a person's wish list wants and demands for Christmas into fuckin' perspective, let me tell you that.
I pray for all those afflicted by this.

The culprit is dead. Either he killed himself or the cops killed him.
Some other guy was arrested in the woods nearby though no one knows what the deal with him is yet.
Perhaps most disturbing detail in this atrocity for me is that there is multiple shooters… 2-3 sick murderous pieces of shits working together just to kill these little children.
I could perhaps accept that there is one single twisted sociopath who is totally fucking crazy could make such a horrible act, but 3 diffrent people? How the FUCK they could convince someone other to join doing such a fucking insane act? How they could do such thing together? Just what the fucking hell?
edit;
Well I hope that it was just single shooter, it would make this even worse if there would been actually multiple shooters.
I didn't hear of three people. Just one shooter and one guy in the woods.
Zephos, have you talked to/seen your mom yet? How is she holding up?
is concerned

Eh, I thought so. These people never seem to face what they've done.
To be honest, details are hazy right now. I heard it was a child's father (not too far removed from "a college kid with ties to the school", but still), who carried two guns. We're gonna have to wait for the details.
Soooo, My mom teaches 4th grade nearbyish, my favorite cousin is nine and goes to school like in a town with only one town between her and newtown, annnnnd Chrissie seeks to teach kindergarten.
Fun day.
"only minutes away from pundits and politicians say "this isn't the time to talk about gun control".really?when is that moment?"
Michael Moore
News are chaotic at the moment and numbers and figures are constantly changing. One shooter is identified, second one is suspected, third seems to be false or unconfirmated info.
@Rogues':
Zephos, have you talked to/seen your mom yet? How is she holding up?

I'm sure the school is doing something about it right now, assembly or having teacher's talk to their students about it.
See, notice how I have cousins nearby. Think of every kid in the area as potentially having the same, as in…Newtown is likely.
The principal is apparently dead, along with a school psychologist.
The principal is apparently dead, along with a school psychologist.
Heard the principal sent out a loudspeaker warning (or something like that) right before it happened, too. Since, apparently, he got into an altercation with one of the shooters.

Oh jesus christ.
That's what Chrissie wants to do exactly.

newTOWN, Wolf Blitzer you idiot fuck. Not newTON.
This is one of those absurd things that I never think about and when it happens, I just can't accept it. How can such thing be reality?

As time progresses, more and more I think the opposite. The hearts of men and women seem to be growing colder and colder by the year; with all sympathy and empathy thrown out the window.
All I seem to hear now is about shootings, rapes and murders, theft etc. etc.
I can't get over that this is apparently the worst ever.
Like three hours ago I thought it was two dead and not worth posting about, or imagining it would be all over cable news.
Random school shootings like these instigate fear and distrust upon schools and universitys. Something must be done about gun control, these kind of massacres are just waiting to be happen, it is clear now that there are people who are so depraved and insane to be able to carry such acts. Guns are too easily avaivable specially in USA, its far too easy to attain gun with these kind of minimal tests and ammunitation can be purchased without limit.
NRA must be held partially responsible for such acts, gun control must be tightened and some guns and ammunitations should be entirely prohibited, people will still seek to kill kids but without proper weapons casualties will be severly lower.
Shooting people with powerful firearms is just too…convinient and easy. Automatic and semi-automatic weapons should be prohibited entirely for civilian populace.

Maybe that's because the news only tell us about these things and leave out what we could cheer about. Sure there are some good news here and there, but they still can't broadcast everything. I'm sure if we could, we'd see so many good things all around the world. At least I hope it's like that.
This world is weird.

Virginia Tech is still the worst, currently, sitting at 34 deaths and 17 wounded.
However, like you said, those numbers are raising quite fast, so that could be overcame (hopefully not though). But the age of the victims are a lot worse in this shooting than that during the Virginia Tech Massacre.

This is another thing I'm wondering about. Someone here said the guy had a freaking machine-gun. I've never heard of such shooting. Is it that easy to attain a machine-gun? Or steal one or whatever?
@The:

1. That's a college, that's not the same as a public school full of minors.
2. So take the age difference into account as well.
3. And it sounds like the deaths are largely from one classroom of FIVE YEAR olds.
So no, I stand by this being the worse ever.
I think one of the worst parts about this shooting is: isn't this the last day of school before Holiday Break? (I know it is for the schools in my region, and the University I attend).

I heard that the gunman was carrying a Glock and a Sig Sauer. Are there confirmed reports that a machine gun was involved?

I didn't even think of that, it's really close if it isn't.

He was carrying 4 weapons, wearing some sort of vest, as well as a mask of sorts.
I feel like a spark shot out of Syria and somehow landed in my backyard.
