I actually started a play through of LeafGreen on Friday. Got a deal on it and Firered a month back and I'm playing through with a friend over the holidays.
Its so WEIRD because its in Gen3. Aside from a lot of moves being missing, 1 use tms, and being limited to gen 1 pokemon until the post-game, it was before the phsyical/special split… so ALL normal/fighting/flying/rock/etc. moves are physical, and ALL water/electric/fire/etc. are special... and its really WEIRD. I mean, it was weird when the switch was originally made, but going BACK to it is even stranger.
Current team is Blastoise/Dratini, Bellsprout (unevolved), Ninetails, Nidorina (turning out to be a total beast) Fearow/Doduo, and Meowth/Snorlax.
I still want something electric (magnemite maybe) but the power plant seems to be a ways away. Juuuust got to the Safari zone so my options split wide open in terms of choices, so there's a lot of flux going on. But Bellsprout (never evolving!) and Nidorina (eventually Nidoqueen) are both definite mainstays, and Ninetails seems like its not going anywhere.
Also, my friend got a shiny male nidoran! Which is... blue like the females. WEIRD. (And checking, the shiny female is purple like the males. It's a trap! )
Also, like, EVERYTHING has a poison subtype. 30 out of 150 creatures have poison. I'd never really realized that poison is resistant to fighting before. Kinda neat. Its a terrible attack type, but a decent defensive one. (I'd wanted to use a mankey, but that was fast derailed by everything being strong to fighting.) And Meowth's payday sucks.
Rattata's hyper fang is pretty amazing though. 80/100 back in an era where power creep hadn't quite made 100 attack the standard yet... on a super early critter. Makes me want to use one, but I hate Raticate... and have too many normals already.

I'm going to do this too; inspired by Robby.
Clearly a fan of the water starters. Why no Empoleon?
