For those that have it (and care for that matter) viz updated their manga app and added landscape mode. Something I'm quiet pleased with, now all they need is support for 10 inch tablets and their all set.

Can someone refresh my memory on how exactly Rayleigh and Kuma's conversation in Volume 53 is a mistranslation? I think it might have been Rin who pointed it out. I would've looked back in the thread, but I remember the post being made waaaay too long ago for me to find (plus I think it might've been posted in Version 2 of this thread, which I'm sure has been deleted)
He said something like ''Are you the real Kuma?'' instead of something along the lines of ''Can I trust you, Kuma?''.

Looks like vol 64 has made it in the New York times best sellers list at #3
NY Times Best sellers sept 2-8 (curious if it could have made it to #1 if you know what wasnt there instead)

sees Bleach Volume 46 purposely moved logo to cover Rangiku's boobs Really guys? Really?
-
They've been like that for awhile, actually.
-
Do viz take out the colorspread? Because none of the volumes i have doesnt have one.
-
Yes, they do, or they make it grayscale. Sometimes there's a smaller version of a colorspread on the back.
I think they're in the Color Walks, but only 2 have been published and the first one is rare and therefore expensive.
-
Thank you for the answer

Looks like we'll be getting new One Piece Omnibus starting next year:

That's somewhat misleading. Viz doesn't touch the colorspreads at all. Even in the Japanese volumes they're grayscale.
-
Hmm, I didn't know that, but it makes sense. I assume the same for the omnibuses and logs?
-
I think the log books have color, but not on the super high-quality photo paper that the Color Walks have. The English omnibuses however? Forget it - the paper quality on those things barely rises above that of toilet paper.

For its second week on the New York Times Manga Best Seller List, "One Piece" #64 came in at 5th place. Cool, it didn't drop that far from last week. It was the highest-selling manga that wasn't new to the list, and not only that, it beat "Bleach":

Good stuff! Thanks for the update!

So it looks like Barrage's slot will be filled by Cross Manage, a brand-new series that just has its second chapter this week. It's a comedic sports manga about a high school guy who joins the girl's lacrosse team as their manager. I don't know if it will be a financial success as far as Shonen Jump Alpha is concerned, since for the most part anime/manga fans in the English-speaking world only make the action/fighting series successful, but I think it's a GREAT move for the overall quality of the product. It's a breath of fresh air amidst all the macho series and I thought the first chapter was fantastically done and very entertaining in a way that Shonen Jump manga often are not. I highly recommend that Alpha subscribers give it a shot when it hits!
-
Man Viz, what do you have against AssClass?
Oh well, I look forward to Cross Manage as everyone here seems to enjoy it.
-
Looking forward to Cross Manage. I would have liked to see _Assassination Classroom_ in there as well, but eh.
-
you know, it's probably good that Assassination Classroom isn't in there as both new series Viz has picked up have been canceled (Taka hasn't yet, but it's going to be).
RIP Cross Manage

No way Cross Manage is cancelled already?
-
No, he's just equating being inducted into Alpha with the kiss of death.
-
I see. My mistake then.
-
Because it totally had nothing to do with with the readers shunning those series, and the way shonen jump is set up on how it ranks the series.
-
guys i was just making a joke stop guys im sorry

@The:

I got it. I've been noticing the same thing too. I've been making jokes that Viz has been choosing poorly and they almost seem like a kiss of death for new series.
We'll see how Cross Manage fares in Japan. -
With the praise Cross Manage has been getting here I'm definitely pumped for it.
-
I FREAKIN' LOVE CROSS MANAGE!!!!!!!!! Seriously, it had me laughing from the 3rd page. I know I'll love this manga.
Also if you haven't read, Barrage Vol. 1 goes on sale from VIZ's digital store the same day as the print version is released in Japan (this Thurs). Definitely getting that!

One Piece is at #9 on the most recent NYT Manga chart. http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2012-10-14/manga/list.html
Man, I can't wait for Naruto to end. Give other series a chance, and it's just so terrible now. Should have ended years ago.

Well it's important to note that when "Naruto" ends other manga series won't all the sudden sell better. And think about all the new editions that will come out after "Naruto" ends.
EDIT: Messed up my first sentence
-
Crap, forgot about the possibilities of new editions. Like Death Note, despite ending years ago it still managed to make best-seller list due to special editions. They're going to milk this crap for years…

Not a big deal, it'll still be past its pique of popularity.
-
I'd probably buy the Naruto equivalent of a "Vizbig."
-
Sja Simultaneous releases coming real soon accourding to viz president.
-
This is awesome. Just want to check but would it be ok to make a note of this in the main chapter discussion? Simply because it's something that really deserves people's attention
-
I've been wanting simultaneous releases since SJA started. Great news that we have confirmation that it's coming down the line!
-
The best time for them to catch up is probably during the Christmas holidays since there are two weeks of double jump issues for SJA to fill in the gaps.
Congrats though for sJA to do simultaneous release. -
I will absolutely be following the SJA releases once this happens! I am SO HYPED for this. Man, I didn't actually think this would ever come, but boy I'm so happy I was wrong.
-
My God this is awesome.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Wow, that was quick! I was kind of under the impression that the closing of the gap as they referred to it would be more gradual. But I'm not complaining!
I also think that this indicates that WSJA has been pretty successful for them, which is great news all by itself.
-
"We cannot say exactly when we go simultaneous yet. Sometime early 2013, we hope. I know we are slow, but we never stop going forward." sasaki hisashi
As gizmo stated.
-
As long as the physical releases are not affected at all, I'm happy.
-
are Viz ever going to license some new manga for the jump line, not everything needs to be put into SJA.
They've only licensed 5 manga from the last 7 years worth of jump manga - Bakuman, Ral Grad, Psyren, Toriko and Nura.
(I'm not counting Barrage, Takamgahara or Cross Manage yet until their physical copies which I can buy are released and they probably would not have been licensed without the switch to alpha)and since Bakuman, Psyren, Nura and good ol Slam Dunk all have end points their shonen jump line is gonna need some new series.
Unless the plan to just continue with one Piece, Toriko, Bleach and Naruto and i guess the 2 yu-gi-oh series kind of count.will we finally get Beelzebub, Medaka Box, Kuroko no basuke or some recently finished series like magico or enigma?
they have to do something soon surely?

As long as their current series give them enough revenue, why bother? They don't have to do anything, they could just keep pimping out their best sellers for years.
But who knows, anything is possible. But like I said its highly unlikely, its nit like they're are hurting or anything.
-
They're unlikely to drop any of the other long-running series in because there's no context for what's happening week-by-week and it would involve a massive amount of work to get out the back volumes quickly. Much easier to work with the brand new material where readers have the opportunity to follow along from the beginning.
-
The main problem with that is, since only Japanese readers can affect which series stick around and which ones don't with their polls, we in America are basically forced to play Russian Roulette where we don't know if the series we get are gonna last any decent length of time. Meanwhile, Japan gets gems like A.C. that VIZ won't touch since they'd already started even just a little before Alpha had room, or that they just pass on for various other reasons.
I really do like Cross Menage, but it feels like our enjoyment of any new series doesn't mean much in supporting their future…
-
Even if Alpha readers could vote in japanese polls, I guarantee you there aren't enough American fans for there to be a difference
-

Sure, because for one thing, we mostly only get the series that already get the majority of the votes. Well, maybe Bleach could benefit, but that's about it. Only people willing to find them would have a chance of voting for the myriad of new and Japan-only long-running series.
The only thing I reasonably hope for is that if Cross Manage lasts and it gets some solid fans here, VIZ will at least be willing to keep taking more risks on Alpha selections. I liked the art of Barrage, but I found the story and setting to be rather standard. And I don't even have an impression worth mentioning on Takama. CM is the first real risk I think they've taken, and I'd like to see it pay off.

THat isn't what I meant. I meant even if we got EVERY jump series and could vote, there would be too few american fans compared to japanese fans. We'd get a few votes in, but probably not enough to make a big difference
-
Shonen Jump Alpha announced on twitter that they will be aquiring new series for the magazine when they make the jump (no pun intended) to Japan's releases in early 2013.
-
Well, they'll probably need to do that anyway since Takamagahara is doomed to get the axe in the next elimination round
-

In other words, "for another thing". ;)
