Inoue did that last part of the episode himself, huh? Reminds me of Dragon Ball Z episode #184. It was a Masunga Keisuke (Studio Cockpit) episode, but Toei had an in-house animator, Miyahara Naoki (episode #159, #199, and #280's animation supervisor) key animate No. 16's death and Gohan's transformation.

Watching Season 4 DVDs I also remember seeing Koizumi's animation style pop up for a good portion of #207 (an Ide episode), right around the time the Straw Hats hit Long Ring Long Land. I wonder how the whole key animation thing works…It's only for higher ranking guys like Shida, Koizumi(when he was around), and Tate, right? Someone like Yokoyama wouldn't have key animation in an episode, would he?
-
Key animation is the key frames of a movement. Yokoyama key animated entire episodes (like episode #3) himself while the in-betweeners did the connecting pieces (in-between frames). If you noticed Koizumi in Ide's episode then it's pretty clear that Ide simply didn't correct Koizumi's work. After all, Koizumi is the character designer so his key animation frames will typically look like his designs.
So, quick break down of terms:
Animation Supervisor: assigns which key animator does which part of the storyboard. If a key animator's work is significantly off model the supervisor will correct the frame himself or ask the animator to redo it.
Key animator: draws the more important frames of a movement based on the storyboard and the director/supervisor's notes. Some key animators will also do their own in-between frames, but these are the Char Aznable-types.
In-between animator: the grunt. If key animation is Point A and Point C, in-between animation is Point B. Tate Naoki and Hisada Kazuya were originally in-between animators on Dragon Ball for Seigasha,but once they started showing promise they were promoted to doing the good stuff, key animation. Hisada (and Shimanuki Masahiro) eventually became the animation supervisors for the Seigasa episodes. Tate became a key animator when Dragon Ball Z episode #68 came around and Hisada was now calling the shots. Yamamuro Tadayoshi acted on-and-off as both a key animator and in-betweener during Dragon Ball.Damn, I'm starting to think I can tie anything back to Dragon Ball…
-
Appreciate the info, YBM. I find the animation side of OP very interesting. Shida has never directed an episode, has he? Has he only been a key animator?
-
He's storyboarded a handful of episodes, but nope, he's never been an animation director.
-

He has been a storyboarder, but that's just boarding based on the director's diction ("I want this and this," etc.) Otherwise he has simply been a key animator. While I'm at it, Shida was also a in-betweener and key animator on Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT~!

Watching this week's glorious episode of Saint Seiya Omega, i can't help thinking how an One Piece episode done by Yoshihiko Umakoshi would look. For some reason it seems Toei is always using his work in movies (including OP's) and original series, but never for manga adaptations, except for Air Master almost 10 years ago.
Seriously, his SS Omega episodes (1,10,20,27) are very recommended for anyone into pretty and old school-ish art, well done animation and great mood/direction. It's like watching short movies.

Ah, Deguchi is this week. That explains the shiftiness of the preview. Everything else should be good though. It's nice to see Nakatani back.
-
569 title is too much of a spoiler imo.
-
Yeah, Archah. Spoiler tag the title translations please.
-
Tagged. Sorry for the inconveniences.
-
Nakatani returns, huh? Well, I guess there goes those other remake movies people were hoping for.
-
Hell yea, Nakatani is back he improved very well in little time.
-
These should be some good episodes. Hopefully 571 is animated well.
-
Yay for Nakatani's return. Although it's a bit late. Anyway, this month is looking great, I'm wondering if there will be any special key animators for this month.
BTW, is it safe to assume Ishizuka for 572? this should be a good episode. And hopefully Hisada for 574.

N](http://www.nottv.jp/special/one-piece/)ot sure what this is (looks like anime filler).
Some screenshots are there if you're interested. -
It's from the movie bro
OMG because Oda the producer the art just like his colors and the lights in the air
this is fucking Oda's art, WTF I never seem One Piece this beatifual. -
-
@Galaxy:
Then what is this "Glorious Island" thing?
I think they do speical for the movie.
-
lol
This is a prologue story, The channel that will air this is viewable on smart phones only. So I don't know if anyone could rip this anytime soon.
Also, it's clearly Inoue who is responsible for this special, who's art style slightly resembles Oda's for some scenes. It feels as if he had enough time to work on this, the artwork looks marvelous. It's a shame this won't be a regular broadcast.
-
This basically rules out any "Little East Blue" type of arc for the anime.
Really hoping From the Decks of the World is animated now, or PH is just going to be rubbish. -
SO Episode 568 = Chapter 648
Episode 569 = Chapter 649
Episode 570 = Chapter 650
Episode 571 = Chapter 651Only 6 episodes and end Fishman Island Arc
Finally

This one looks pretty good.

@Yuugi's:
It's only a few episodes at a time. October will have two episodes that cover the comic (four chapters total) and two that don't. It's pretty good work.
You might want to check that again, we just had 2 cannon episodes of Naruto and now there will be fillers till the end of the year:
! October 18 – Episode 284 – The Helmet Splitter: Jinin Akebino! (Filler)
October 25 – Episode 285 -Scorch Style User! Pakura of the Hidden Sand (Filler)
November 1 – Episode 286 & 287 – Naruto Shippuuden Special – Hidden Story: Tsunade & Raikage ~What They Gambled~ (Filler)
November 8 – Episode 288 – Threat, Jinpachi and Kushimaru’s Combo!! (Filler)
November 15 – Break(!?)
November 22 – Chikara Force Filler Arc
November 29 – Chikara Force Filler Arc
December 6 – Chikara Force Filler Arc
December 13 – Chikara Force Filler Arc
December 20 – Chikara Force Filler Arc
December 27 – Chikara Force Filler ArcThe war has just started, there was a huge filler arc on that boat where they tried to copy OP, then a few episodes in they interrupted/postponed 2 big fights with fillers. There was a one week break and now this !. There is still 75% of the war to go, what the hell are the doing.
Thank Oda, One Piece is with Toei !

We haven't had an episode with less than a chapter in 12 weeks…

You do realize I made my post before the news of the Chikara arc, right?
Anyway, I welcome the intrusion. It's better that it happen here and now before the best parts of the war arc. Hopefully the arc will also buy enough time for Suzuki/Tsuru and Wakabayashi episodes, too.
@Galaxy:

Regular one chapter pacing isn't good by any stretch of the imagination, either.
-
@Yuugi's:
Regular one chapter pacing isn't good by any stretch of the imagination, either.
It's not perfect, but it usually works just fine. Perfect example is 568.
Also helps that the fight episodes covered more than a chapter (Around 1.3-1.5 and episode).
-
@Galaxy:

So what Its not mean that they were okay.
-
@Galaxy:

An average OP manga chapter has such content that anime-only fans never complain about slow pacing, since they don't know how many chapters or pages were covered, so they don't obsess over it. That's pretty much a manga reader thing.
-
Anime watchers go on about how they'd like to see more filler all the time, but I'd bet if Toei did adopt Pierrot's filler-to-canon ratio they'd go stir-crazy.
-
Perish the thought crossword :S.
-
Here's a few of the Robin pictures from 569.
!
!
They draw it so bad in these two scenes, but then we get a perfectly good reanimation of Skypiea Robin.
!
I really hope next week is better in regards to this.

Next week its Nakatani, his art one of the best in One Piece team.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Why both… Why pink >.> Are these their Z movie outfits by any chance ?
Well it's not like the anime decided to just make them pink. Their color schemes were revealed on the Volume 66 cover. And no, it has nothing to do with Z.
-
Still no preview of episode 572?
-
@OPF:
Still no preview of episode 572?
I can't find it, so I guess it will be released tomorrow instead.
-
Another short preview..
-
I _want_ to say that's Ishizuka, but there aren't nearly enough closeups to tell for sure.
-
So, Murad and I were thinking this upcoming Episode of Luffy will be supervised by Hisada. Assuming it's as long as Episode of Nami, I wonder what sort of damage this will continue to do to Toei's other productions.
-
That looks like Ishizuka. Short preview means that we will get another Teaser for Ep of Luffy.
Regarding the damage this special will do, I think we have seen so far what ep of Nami did to the FI arc climax, it was underwhelming, and it might continue like this until the special is released.
Edit: lol, the cut that Shida said he is working on with Luffy Vs. 15 enemies is clearly from the PSP game.
It's the last cut with Luffy fighting all the villains he encountered.
Also it seems Tomita is more imvoloved with this, seems like some work is done by Inoue as well.
-
Hah. Now that Shida's done with the PSP game he's moved on to the new Dragon Ball Z film.
