well those so called ''intelligent gamers'' should be quick enough. if they really love they're strategys so much they should be able to come up with them lightning quick.
you never know when your strategy will fail so you need the quick thinking.
and actually in FF the enemies didn't always wait for you to attack..
The point of strategies are to create ones which doesn't fail, which requires timing and control of your characters. An impossibility in FFXII. Theres no way of fully mastering your party, the same way you could in the old FF's. And sure, in some of those the enimies would kick your ass if you didn't stop them, but it's not the same.
You could anticipate when it was their turn (especially in FFX) and prepare yourself. You could constantly and easily switch targets and attacks; in FFXII you can change your controlled character and assign the other ones new tasks, sure, but in order to get the same effect you'd have to constantly change - meaning you compromise the actions of your previously controlled character.
Besides, Any strategy can be screwed by a single wrong action performed by the AI.
the traditional rpg isn't as much strategy as you think. all you need in those games is brute force and a little tactical mind to know how to use your magic.
And using these things to their maximum effect and the correct circumstances is not strategy how?
But if you refer to basic magic knowledge and mindless physical attacks, I know a slew of bosses that would vaporize that kind of gamer.
And finally…you're excellent at expressing yourself and have good grammar...So why not use some paragraphs as well?
Oh and Carly, I played VS too, but I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for it. Along with Dark Cloud 2 and SO3 it's caused me to fear solo-action-rpgs, or Dungeon Crawlers as I would call them. I always find the combat system to restrict my options instead of expanding them, and design and story takes a back seat...I'm afraid I consider these games as much rpgs as I consider Jak 3 a platformer.
