MGS4 was definitely the fitting end of the series. And you know how it goes: if you keep making sequel over sequel of something, the chances of it ruining the series increases exponentially with each new iteration.

I still want a game about The Boss man. But I was expecting remakes of the first 2 Metal Gear games more.

Also now Big Boss has the same number of games where he is the playable character as Solid Snake(if you only count canon games and not count Twin Snakes)

But I do honestly think they should use this new open world idea, with the primary systems found in MGS4… as a new IP. New character, new story. But whatever.. this is ambitious. I'm hoping for more!

Based on my experience the series, the story has always been more important and the gameplay served the storyline and not the opposite. I was never obsessed with finishing the game on multiple difficulties or having an online mode, that was never the point.

I would have prefered a remake of Metal Gear 2 solid Snake. I love the series but we should let it go.

Considering, the talent of Kojima, he could make new original series (Zone of the enders). Seeing the health of the gaming industry in Japan, everyone must be begging him to do another MGS game non stop.

Eh. I can see what you mean story-wise, but I've always enjoyed the gameplay more than the story, so that doesn't really matter to me much.

Also, I'll go ahead and point this out since it's kind of a point here. Gameplay always comes before story in games. It doesn't matter how good your story is if the gameplay isn't at least decent. In the case of MGS, I've always thought the story ranged from alright to enjoying it, but it's the gameplay that's always kept me around.

I'm sure it'll be enjoyable, and I suppose there's enough missing time in the story to make this. Engine supposedly has been designed right now for current gen consoles but for next gen as well. I'm kind of excited.

Edit: Oh and it being a stealth game is cool too. I always welcome stealth games.

Ya'know, the MGS games are kinda an odd thing for me. Most of the time I don't understand the story and I don't really love the gameplay… yet I dig the games. As such I'm excite for this.

Yea with this new engine and the promise of new ways to play it sounds pretty good, and enough of a change to make the gameplay stand out more as a focal point too. I know some dont want any games after MGS4, since it was a fitting end, but theres much more to tell as far as big boss goes and im definitely eager to get back in his shoes all the way up to outer heaven if thats what it leads to.

As awesome as those would be, I think Kojima's gone on record and said he won't be remaking the first two Metal Gear games, as too many things would need to be changed in order to get them to fit with the stuff from Solid.

^ Aside from the fact that unless you buy MGS3: Subsistence, or the HD collection that features Subsistence there is no way to play the original/updated versions of the first two games.

And that's a lot for just two games.

"PC similarly equipped to a PS3" seems weird to me. Usually if they're showing off PC footage they'll go for top of the line just to make sure it doesn't stutter or anything. Not to mention that a PC with the same hardware as a PS3 most likely wouldn't be able to run any modern game very well. I'm looking forward to it though.

This being current gen proves Kojima Pro are wizards. MGS4 continues to be one of the best looking games this gen and it came out 4 years ago, and they just set a new standard again on the same hardware! I was amused and disappointed that trailer was 10 mins of cutscenes and 30 secs of gameplay.

I remember when MGS4 was coming out he bragged and made a shot at dead or alive (another launch/near launch PS3/xbox 360 title) about how the ability to capture a wrinkly old, detailed man kicks the ass out of doll-looking fictitious jerk-off women

It's probably a focus on Detail that makes their stuff look so good, an artistic advantage.

That looks absolutely amazing. When I was thinking to myself, "I WANT A GAME BY HIDEO KOJIMA!", this is what I needed, unfornuately not Rising.

Big Boss looks much older. I'm gonna guess this is more toward the end of the 80's or the beginning of the 90's. In 1995 was the Outer Heaven incident where he was beaten by Solid Snake - who, depending on the time, I hope makes an appearance. If I remember correctly he was in some sort of war as a teen, and was later trained by Big Boss.

The dialogue suggests it's not long after Peace Walker, though. And that boy at the beginning is apparently Chico. Kinda confusing.

Ya'know, I'm gonna risk a lynching and let this out. I don't want David Hayter in this, David Hayter needs to walk. I had no problem with his voice in 1 or 2 and found his performance in 4 to be quite nice. But having him voice Big Boss is incredibly stupid for two reasons. Reason one is… it's the same voice as Solid Snake... why would they have the same voice? Yes, Solid is a clone but so is Liquid and Solidus, but they sound completely different. Reason two... he made the voice even raspier for Big Boss, in other words WORSE. I find his performance in all of Big Boss' games to be pretty groan inducing. The only reason he gets by with this is because he has become the iconic voice of the character, no way he'd clear any decent audition with that voice today. The voice fit really well with Old Snake, but that's because someone in his state should sound like he just hacked up a lung.

It'll also be more or less a plot inconstancy as he wasn't voiced by Hayter in 4, but rather by Richard Doyle who, in my opinion, is much better in the role. I know it'll never happen, it'll be Hayter once again in Ground Zeroes but... I really wish it wasn't, or he'd at least try to improve on the voice. I don't dislike Hayter at all, but lately whenever I see Snake open his mouth and the sound of a squealing cat comes out I can't help but lose all sense of drama.

I understand what you mean, but he should still definitely be voiced by hayter. I cant see doyle acting out missions and having humorous dialogue via codec, since hes comes off more as the mentor and tragic leader with his tone. Snake still isnt that old, yea hes a bit grey, but i dont think he should have doyle's voice again until he has a full head of grey hair, no mullet, and dawns his signature coat. I dont think hayter voicing him is bad at all, hes done an excellent job IMO, i cant even imagine anyone voicing him at this point and even the japanese voice actor feels a bit off hearing it every now and then.

This trailer was just phenomenal. This is what MGS is: engaging storyline, sad and gritty atmosphere, a reflexion on war and liberty, Big Boss's charisma is off the charts and the gameplay looks awesome.
The moment when "Here's to you" kick in was freaking epic poetic and dark.

Oh Boy, after all the let downs from my favourite Japanese franchise ( Resident evil, Devil may cry, Final Fantasy, Time Crisis, tekken, Soul Calibur and so on). MGS still remains loyal to itself. I salute you.

Unlike all those franchises listed, at least MGS still has its original creator behind the helms. For example, could you imagine MGS under Ninja Theory's hands without Kojima around? Hohohoh, yeah Kojima seems to take care of his baby pretty well even when handing its counterpart to Platinum Studios (not a bad choice considering some alternatives).

Kojima is pretty much the heart of the franchise. MGS would never be the same in the hands of an occidental studio. They would literally transform it into a generic TPS or FPS with no soul. Look what happened to RE who has become another TPS when it was originally about horror. Crapcom is trying to please the COD fans.

However, I am not a fan of Revengeance cause it feels so dumb, noisy and empty. MGS ground zeroes is the one people should pay attention.

If what kojima says is true and this level of fidelity is possible with current gen consoles holy crap. It's really impressive the last of us doesn't look as good anymore graphically.

I wasn't that big of a fan of the forth game although I understand very well why many love it. But I'm kind of excited for this open world stealth that sounds like a big evolution for the genre.

It's kind of a bit hard compare Solidus to Big Boss in MGS4 when you got them PS2 graphics to compare with.
