I cant wait to hear Brand New World dubbed. I'm gonna get goosebumps.
Before I fangasm in hearing these openings dub, I really hope they get the licence to Kokoro no Chizu sooner! It's one of the best opening ever!

I hate to sound like a real ass about this, but I have to admit I'm really rather surprised by all of the, well, surprise at this announcement. The fact that they were getting season 5 (and beyond) was, in my mind at least, a foregone conclusion. Getting an announcement this early, however, I will admit was a real surprise.
I mean, they basically ended season 4 essentially in the middle. That would be like just stopping season 2 with the conclusion of Drum, or season 3 with the ride up the knockup stream. Nevermind the fact that they've said, any number of times, that they've no intention of dropping the series and after hearing the commentary on this latest set, well, that only hammered it home further. In fact, I'm beginning to think that the wait between season 3 and 4 is going to turn out to be the exception, rather than the rule.
Man, this is what I've always been waiting for. Water 7 and Enies Lobbies dubbed. A dream come true. Ever since Funi acquired it, I couldn't wait. The best arc of the series with jawdropping voice acting and widescreen animation.
My thoughts exactly friend. I'm glad we're getting Strong World much sooner than later, and that we don't have to worry about a gap between Seasons 4 and 5. I know when I talked to Jerry Jewell in '10 he really liked the idea of voicing Brook, I just hope he still does now that it's 2 years later. Imo he's pretty much the perfect choice

I wouldn't complain about this. If they hadn't, it'd have been a 130 episode season. Way too long. Also, it takes longer to license more episodes. These season five talks might've been the reason the wait between ssn3 and 4 was so long. They probably realized the season was a cliffhanger, and immediately returned for more episodes when they realized the demand.
I cannot wait to hear Brand New World in English. It's definitely going to give me goosebumps.

Well, allow me to clarify…it wasn't a complaint, but rather, a hint of things to come, I guess you could say. I seriously doubt that after inadvertently finishing season three with only one episode to go in the arc, then making people wait how long for just that one episode that they would do something even remotely like that again, which if they dropped the series after season 4, would be even worse than the 205 finish. FUNimation has shown time and again that they are thinking of their fans and supporters, and I just can't see them getting season 4 and ending it where they did without knowing where it ended (in the middle), and without already knowing they were going to definitely (at least plan to) get season 5.
Bottom line, I think they knew a year ago when they announced season 4 that they fully intended to get season 5.
And don't forget, they licensed season 1 and 2 at the same time, which together is 143; not much more than season 4 and 5 combined, so such a licensing wouldn't be unprecedented (although yes, I do realize that seasons 1 and 2 probably wouldn't have cost as much as 4 and 5 combined).
And as far as the wait between seasons 3 and 4, well, we all could theorise until we're blue in the face and never come close to the real reasons as there was a lot going on at the time. For example, the sale from Navarre and the earthquake in Japan both happened around the time season 3's last voyage came out and both of those undoubtedly had some influence. In any case, it's all academic anyway. For at least the next year and a half, we can count on regular releases, which I'm sure pleases all of us.
@Gentleman:
Index is coming out on DVD October 30th. Railgun will probably come soon after.
Oh, really? Thanks for the info. At least now I know it's coming and hasn't been stalled.
I'd be ecstatic if they got their hands on season 5 already. Movies would be great too. BOTH would be a blessing.
I'm not holding my breath though.
I'm also waiting on more news for Hellsing and Fairy Tail. Oh, and A Certain Scientific Index/Railgun. I thought they licenses that ages ago.
…................
If I could eat my words, I would. No, seriously. If it was psychically possible, I would do it.
All in the same day, One Piece Season 5 (Enies Lobby AND Ice Hunter to boot), AND STRONG WORLD!!! And I heard Fairy Tail season 2 was also announced. I didn't see a post on the main FUNi page. Any news on Hellsing? Any other acquisitions of new titles? Either way, these announcements alone made my day!
Season 4 preorders must have been a new record. If this keeps up, season 6 may be licensed a year from now just as season 4 is finishing out. Also, it seems no issues happened with Crazy Rainbow despite it being a Tackey & Tsubasa song. I wonder why ending 14 in particular had so many licensing issues? Or maybe they plan to just air Crazy Rainbow without a dub, but I hope not.
Now, there's a few matters to discuss and theorize over with this news. First, those annoying 5 episode recap episodes. Do you think they'll give us a set with 14 episodes to make up for those? Also, how do you think they'll handle those Detective Luffy episodes that just pop up randomly in the middle of the arc? I do like them a lot, but it interrupts the flow. Maybe they'll air them all on a special disk or as the extras or something. Although since they didn't get special 4 and the original Detective Luffy, it will feel a bit weird seeing them dubbed out of order. Oh, and the final episode of season 5 is 366, the Chopperman special.
And of course, we have a ton of new characters coming up that I'm excited about seeing dubbed. Brook alone (early to boot) is something I'm head over heels for here. People keep saying Jerry Jewel, and somehow I feel his voice would fit, but I wonder if there's a better choice.

Episode 336 is the Chopperman special.
And I don't see why they wouldn't include the recap episodes and specials. It would be weird for them to skip over, let's say, episode 303 or 336 like that in the episode menu.

Whoa, weird typo alert. I have no idea why I put 366 instead of 336.
But skipping the episodes in the menu would no less jarring than the episodes interrupting the story, don't you think?
@Galaxy:
Don't forget We Are! Straw Hat Version. I wonder if they'll have the voice actors sing that one.
The voice actors sang Family, so yes most likely.

Probably, but I think they should keep the episodes for consistency's sake.

Yeah, I definitely agree. But what I meant was just have the episodes in order and include the episodes as specials in the extras. But I guess we'll see how it gets handled when the time comes.

What makes you think there won't be any issues with Crazy Rainbow? And FT Season 2 is 24 episodes long, so Parts 5 and 6.

We may still have issues with it, but at the very least it didn't slow down the licensing. That's what I was the most afraid of.

Personally I would love for the specials to be on a separate disc away from the canon episodes. But I know their will be some fan wanks crying ruined forever!! So we can't have that.

Crazy Crazy Rainbow Star is a pretty bad opening. I wouldn't mind if they just left Brand New World as the opening (unlikely). As long as Kokoro no Chizu gets dubbed, I won't mind having that ONE opening undubbed.

Do we really need a third disc just for the specials? We already have filler arcs on the same discs as canon episodes, what's the difference and what's the point? If you don't wanna watch 'em, just skip it. And I'm not trying to say FUNi would be "ruining" something if they did that, just that it'd be incredibly pointless.
They got Season 5 (Episodes 264-336) and Strong World.
What. What. What. What. So soon? What. What. What. What. What. Strong World? What. What. What. What. Oh my God.
I see people talking about dubbed openings, but are we sure we're going to get them?
Season 4's openings aren't dubbed, right?

Maybe the fact that it had nothing to do with Enies Lobby was pretty bad, but on it's own merits (animation, catchy upbeat song and atmosphere, ect.) it's actually a pretty great opening, imo.
guessing no one expected season 5 to be announced lol, don't really know why so soon maybe they planned it out when they got season 4..
don't really want the tvspecials, as for the recaps they might just copy & paste from the early eps…
regarding strong world do we also get the OVA epsiode 0? coz that will be a good addition..
hopefully in season 6 we also get Sabaody Arc, it's one of my favs..

Not to beat a dead horse but I will anyway…
The disclaimer notes 207-230 having no dubbed songs. Chances are 231 and up can be dubbed, although we're not 100% sure. FUNi has made it known both in the disclaimer and in a recent live chat they do want to go back to tradition for future releases (lending weight to the 231+ theory, otherwise they could've said "future seasons"). At this point it's way too early to say the entire season's songs will be undubbed. If 231 is undubbed when we get to Season 4: Third Voyage, then we can safely assume the entire season will stay the same.

I kind of agree with Maron on this. I don't think they need their own disk, but I feel just placing them under the extra section with the clean OP and ED and commentaries would be a good idea.

I like Crazy Rainbow, but I would have preferred keeping Brand New World for a while longer. It fit Enies Lobby much better. Crazy Rainbow would have fit better only after Luffy defeated Lucci.
@MonkeyDDragon:

They may not be amazing, but the collector in me wants to get all the undubbed specials and movies. Of course, I'm pleased Strong World is getting attention before the other movies.

That was one of my main problems with it. Thankfully, Toei never did it again.
Been at work all day, so forgive me for being late.
Boy did Funimation strike gold today. We just got all of Enies Lobby, Strong World (BROOK FINALLY GETS DUBBED!!!!!) and plus more fairy tail, lupin, Yamato, and Aquarion to name a few.
Am I the only one who's excited about Akira?
This must also be the work of Iriya Azuma and the new CEO.
Oh and Funi.
@Galaxy:

…Uh, yes they did. Remember Kaze wo Sagashite? aka the most cheerful and happy-go-lucky opening in the history of ever played through the Impel Down arc, replacing the far more fitting Share the World? Of course, the backlash they got from that opening seems to have made them put much more effort into making the openings actually match the part of the story they're accompanying afterwards.
I still can't believe we got Season 5 AND Strong World. I really didn't expect any of this to happen this soon.

I dunno, even Kaze wo Sagashite had some of Impel Down in the opening. Crazy Rainbow was just a bunch of non-sequiters, which itself is fine but for the majority of Enies Lobby? Especially after just replacing the spoilerriffic Brand New World which ironically showcased events that happened after that opening stopped? I would've held off on Crazy Rainbow until at least the fights with the other CP9 members was over, but for whatever reason Toei wanted to do longer openings and cull the endings completely.
Though, as songs, I'd take Crazy Rainbow over Kaze wo Sagashite any day of the week.
So…I tell one of my co-workers about Season Five being licensed, he worries how it will affect his ability to watch it on illegal streaming sites.
!
Yeah…today's fandom is just retarded.
O-chan
Pretty much sums up my feelings.
All i wanna know is
They got STRONG WORLD?! Awesome, I wonder who they'll cast for Brook..
i was on toonzone and they are saying funi got season 6 as well heres the link http://www.toonzone.net/2012/07/otakon2012-pr-funimation-entertainment-announces-multiple-acquisitions-at-otakon/

I checked to see if it was some type of typo but according to that link THEY ALSO HAVE ONE PIECE FILM Z! HOLY SH*T FUNI!!! YOU ARE ON THE BALL!!! O-chan

That's what it says here, too.
I dunno if it's 100% legit or not, but if it is….
I LOVE YOU, FUNI!!!!
That would be a really odd mistake to make. Maybe it was one of those things they didn't get permission to announce at Otakon in time, like with how they didn't get permission to announce Fairy Tail's movie until that morning.
Damn…. 188 episodes that combines both Season 5 and 6.
Actually, now that I did the math, Season 6 would be 115 episodes.
Yikes. That's like 9-10 voyages right there.
I also just did the math for that. I mean that is a overload. Aleast we know that we got everything through the end of Impel Down.
Season 6 and FILM Z TOO! I usually don't swear on the net but, HOLY SHIT! It looks like America will finally be able to have a godd dub of One Piece, from start to finish! I think I'm about to pass out from excitment.
I'm assuming this is false. These sources say it was announced at Otakon. It wasn't. We'll see. This would be fantastic news if so. I don't know what I'd do with myself.
Ok let's assume it's true for the sake of the argument. With that ending at 451, what're the predictions for where the next batch would lead us?
And Zephray, yeah, it can be a mistake. But it looks like such a profoundly significant oversight so I'm not really sure.
Ok let's assume it's true for the sake of the argument. With that ending at 451, what're the predictions for where the next batch would lead us?
If it's true, Season 7 would probably be the Strawhat whereabouts, Marineford and the Post-War arc.
Well here is my episode dvds prediction for the remaining Season 4, and plus Season 5.
S4V2: Episodes 218 - 228
S4V3: Episodes 229 - 240
S4V4: Episodes 241 - 251
S4V5: Episodes 252 - 263
S5V1: Episodes 264 - 276
S5V2: Episodes 277 - 288
SV53: Episodes 289 - 300
S5V4: Episodes 301 - 312
S5V5: Episodes 313 - 324
S5V6: Episodes 325 - 336
I'll wait for a press release, or ANN. I don't use toonzone. Don't know how trustworthy and errorfree it is.
Season six is freaking long, if so. It's weird to think all of sabaody will be in one or two sets. Amazon Lily in one. And Impel down in two or three. Man, I hope this is true. Our days of wondering about One Piece's cancellation will be far in the past. The only think we'll have to ask for are the movies.

Getting Season 6 & Film Z sounds way too farfetched to be legit right now. It would be cool, it just sounds too much
