@papermoon2:
THE SUPPLY TRAIN CORPS IDOL MIKARIN
the LAST HOPE FOR HUMANITY and the ULTIMATE ENTERTAINER
and she’s gonna MESMERIZE ALL TITANS WITH HER POWER PERFORMANCE
I would also like to point out that on her little profile blurb contains the following:
Hobby: Eren
Talent: Slicing meat
I don't know why the extras from volume 9 haven't made their way to this thread, but they are awesome.
I just want to know what was suspicious about Berthold and Ryner that Aldrich mentioned a while back.
There are several points that can be used to argue Berthold's and Ryner's background. However, most of them are refutable and mostly depend on the interpretation. And I won’t mention the most stupid ones, like "Ryner looks just like the armored titan duh".
First of all, Berthold and Ryner aren't seen during the colossal titan attack. But their whereabouts are accounted for, they were with the rest of 104th squad.
Second, is the time when Berthold was telling his and Ryner’s story of escape form the titan attack. Apparently Ryner tells him he says way too much and is close to ruining their cover. It’s much simpler instead: Ryner tells him not to be as melodramatic because many of their fellow trainees experienced similar horror, and Eren with his guys even saw the colossal titan. ANd we get another confirmation in chapter 39.
Third, is Ryner's confrontation with the female titan in chapter 23. It's assumed he knowingly attempts a futile attack in order to get close to the female titan's ear and tell her Eren's position in the legion formation. However, he has attacked because female type has frozen in place after Armin's words. She takes a good look at him before catching and not crashing him to death. Even after that, Ryner manages to cut her fingers although she could have hardened them to prevent his escape. And the titan spares Ryner's life not because he is her accomplice, but because she views him as worthy of living, just like with Armin. After all, Ryner always had a special connection with Annie, and looks out for her, as well as for his other fellow trainees.
All in all, it’s not that much harder to believe that Ryner is human than to believe he is gay.
My only confusion about this (that wasn't stated already) is how he goes to flashbacks, it wasn't untill I started to see dead recruits talking that I realized that there was a flashback. It happened recently with potato girl (Sasha?) that she was talking to her dad and then sudenly a Titan eating someone? He also uses the black borders but not always.
Whenever Isayama starts a flashback sequence, he inserts one or several empty diagonal panels. Take notice of them and you won't get confused by the story transition.
