It doesn't matter if it was planned, in my opinion the transition wasn't good…
Hunter x Hunter II
-
-
I thought the transition between Greed Island and the Chimera Ant arc was fine.
-
I actually don't remember what the transition was between those arcs.
-
I actually don't remember what the transition was between those arcs.
Gon used the card called Accompany which allows the user to be sent to a city that they had previously been to on greed island or to a person that they had already met on greed island, Remember Ging was already established into Gon's memory card. So Gon used it to fly him and Killua to Ging's location but who they met wasn't Ging but Kite. Ging had it set up that way because he didn't want to meet his sons friends.

There really wasn't any transition. One chapter the greed arc has justed ended, the next an ugly ant thing appeared in a desolate area and they announced "The new arc begins"
I think it was like that…let me check....
EDIT: Sp yeah, they met up with Kaito, and THEN an ugly ant thing appeared out of nowhere

-
After they were searching for new species with Kaito's crew they found out about the queen. I think that worked fine.
-
I mean what do you people expect?? are you supposed to have a party arc after each arc ends or something?
-
You can kind of argue that Heavens Arena came out of nowhere and when Greed Island was originally brought up that too came out of nowhere but that's the magic of HxH since it's a series about mysteries and the unknown and learning about the unknown. It's not like the queen didn't have any significance to the story what so ever, we learn later on that she comes from the dark continent that later would be revealed was actually planned since volume 6. Example the recording of Ging that gon and killua finds back on whale island. So in a strange roundabout way the queen was planned out ( I know it sounds like i'm reaching for stars there).
There's still some mystery surrounding the Chimera Ants' plan that was never clarified. So you know how the East Gorteau's rally was really a guise to create a mass army of soldiers, right? Well Pouf mentions a second stage of the plan that is never elaborated on–"Unification." Combined with the knowledge that the Ants are from "the Beyond," perhaps the Chimera Ants planned on unifying the Dark Continent with the human realm.

Their plan didn't matter since they were going to die regardless.
I'm quite curious as to what they meant too, but… we may actually find out why such a thing would even be necessary when we see the dark continent.
-
Well the soldier eggs were taken by Pariston and now he's on Beyond Netero's team. So we should eventually see what kind of damage they could've done if Gon and company had been too late raiding the Palace.

No damage. Wasn't it implied they were going to Rose bomb that place to high heaven if they didn't succeed?
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/hunter_x_hunter/v28/c298/9.html
They still had a bunch of those bombs left. One can wipe out one million people, and I'm quite sure Netero was supposed to fight the king inside the building.

Yes and no.
The original plan was for Netero and Zeno to try and fight Meruem, presumably wherever they found him and Netero would activate the Rose bomb planted inside his body when victory was not possible.
However as far as we know that was the only Rose bomb that any of the raiding party possessed. Which makes sense considering the vast amount of damage a single Rose could do even after the explosion. So if by some chance Netero and his Rose failed then everyone there was screwed.

When Pouf mentioned that I thought that he was talking about unifying the Hunter World under the rule of Mereum by having every major state, capital, country and principality's go through the selection process (this was before the giant reveal of the Dark Continent) Now that is in play maybe the ants true objective was to Unify the Hunter World with the Dark Continent

I don't really think it's that big of a deal whether Togashi had planned or not planned the Chimera Ant story. He's got enough elements and plot threads layered throughout the series that he can build the Hunter world for years. The only problem is whether he will stick the landing. The way I view Hunter X Hunter is it's Togashi's manifesto of how to write a shonen series, he takes tropes that have become cookie-cutter standards of the genre and then pushes these elements into a more smarter and sometimes painfully real direction. Maybe I just revel in this form of shonen deconstruction, but a part of me likes the idea of Togashi looking at the mass "new world" hysteria that has consumed Jump and thinking "sure why not". My only criticism with the whole dark continent angle is that by opening the world up this dramatically the overarching stories that have been building up for the past billion years may not have that same punch to them depending on whether the Hunter world is actually existing on a microcosm of the real world.

The Phantom Troupe's seiyuu for Madhouse's version were revealed today:
- Mamoru Miyano as Chrollo Lucilfer
- Rena Maeda as Machi
- Miho Arakawa as Shizuku
- Noriko Hidaka as Shalnark
- Naoya Uchida as Nobunaga Hazama
- Romi Park as Pakunoda
- Hidenobu Kiuchi as Franklin
- Kenn as Phinks
- Akio Ohtsuka as Uvogin
- Kappei Yamaguchi as Feitan
-
@Mr.:
- Akio Ohtsuka as Uvogin
@Anime:
"(voiceover for Antonio Banderas) in " The Legend of Zorro" (live-action movie) (Japanese)"
16 characters of SOLD!
-
I thought people know Otsuka Akio from his voicing of Solid Snake and Marshall D Teach, not some live action voiceover.
-
Mamoru Miyano as Chrollo Lucilfer - Kiba from Wolf's Rain, mite b cool Romi Park as Pakunoda - she's Hitsugaya and Komatsu, I thought Pakunoda had kinda deep voice for a woman
Hidenobu Kiuchi as Franklin - Nero from OP, I totally wouldn't match the 2 characters together based on their voice but who knows
Kenn as Phinks - Takimaru from Toriko, I dunno he's got a soft voice..kinda, dunno how it'll turn out
Akio Ohtsuka as Uvogin - Blackbeard, good choice
Kappei Yamaguchi as Feitan - Haha Usopp with a cold psychopatic voice? I'm interested -

Whoa, Snake?! Snake! Snaaaaaaaaake!
-
I'm very iffy on Chrollo Lucifer's VA.
Okabe from Steins;Gate? Kida for Durarara and Takuto from Star Driver? I'll be very interested in where he goes with this.
Be interested with how Yamaguchi will do Feitans voice.
Romi Park seems an odd choice, I've always imagined Pakunoda with more of a mature voice…not Edward Elric.
-
Very interesting VA choices

Maybe I'm being paranoid but I'm worrying about the pacing of this anime. Yorkshin arc starts soon, that leaves all of yorkshin, GI, and CA (admittedly a long ass arc) to animate before catching up to where the manga is. Even if Togashi does a 30 chapter run every year I don't think he'll finish enough arcs to keep a good padding lead for the manga from where the anime is

We're up to chapter 60 of 340 with episode 35. At the pacing we're going at right now, we're talking nearly 200 episodes before we're all caught up.
There is quite a ways to go yet! Plus,
It's not like there's anything stopping them from having the anime take seasons off or using filler.
And the anime could easily end at the place where the manga has stopped for now if it was necessary.
At any rate, there's a LOT of material left to get through first. -
Hunter X Hunter does have a lot of good chances for anime filler. But I suppose we'll worry about that when we need to cross that bridge.
-
Kappei Yamaguchi as Feitan - Haha Usopp with a cold psychopatic voice? I'm interestedIf I'm right he is also Bartholomew Kuma.
It dawned at me recently - if Pitou would've also managed to give his cells to the King, then he probably would've negated the poison in himself with the preserving and repairing ability. And possibly repaired any damage from age, thus staying forever healthy. Add here Yupi's power and Pufu's spiritual message and picture gets chilling. He was planned as a perfect being, without a doubt. What a fiend he was.

…sounds like a question for Togashi.
It's pitou's fault for pissing Gon off.
-
He was the Cell of HxH =D
-
So was there no HxH episode this week or have I just not been looking hard enough?
The wikipedia episode guide is starting to lag behind so I can't trust it completely..
-
I read somewhere there was a break because soccer(EURO 2012) took over its time slot, dunno how accurate that is.
-
Which of course leaves the question, why the king didn't devour his guards right away (as he was completely unscrupolous anyways at that time).
-
He didn't knew that he would gain their skills?
-
Also the King lazed around for a good while, why kill off the help? lol.
-
He didn't knew that he would gain their skills?
Well he did gain youpi's abilities.
If shapeshifting is considered as use of nen that is. -
Everyone seemed surprised that Meruem could actually use the abilities of Yupi and Pouf as opposed to just making his already incomprehensibly powerful Nen even stronger.
Actually on that note I'm still a little sad Meruem never used Pouf's Beelzebub ability. I was really set on seeing a chibi ant king for some reason haha
-
Well he did gain youpi's abilities.
If shapeshifting is considered as use of nen that is.The shapeshifting has absolutely nothing to do with nen
-
It was because Yupi was part "Magical Beast", like those foxes that were part of the hunter exam, the ones who gided the participants to the restaurant.
-
I just watched around seven last episodes that I missed. I was thinking that they would be boring, since I didn't really enjoy that part of manga. But they are surprisingly good. And some things that were not clear to me in manga got nicely unwrapped. And the ending song is neat too, with it's 80's opening vibe. I enjoy this anime.
-

He was full Magical Beast (if I remember correctly), Magical Beasts are smart and they can learn and adapt so him learning about his enemies about his own abilities and about his own nature wasn't very far fetched.
-
I'm reading the ant arc again, and I just realized what the money exchange from the silent chapter and the seaguls were about.
And if http://www.mangareader.net/207-14239-2/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-230.html is dig at north korea, it pretty much predicted them developing nuclear weapon. Awesome details everywhere, I wonder why he didn't just become a writer rather than a mangaka.
The amount of creativity and diversity he put in the ant arc tells me he will enjoy working in less limited world when HxH moves to that world.
-

Well to be precise the one thing he wasn't comprised of was any human genes. Yupi was all animal+magical beast
-

I was flicking through the attack on the Ant's base and was wondering myself whether Togashi had written the narration in full before drawing the chapters. When reading it in trade all the boxes fit together and even sentences are cut in half and finished in the next chapter. I understand why a lot of people do not enjoy the narration boxes throughout the third act of the ant arc but personally it adds a whole extra layer of depth from Togashi. Though this is coming from a guy who doesn't really get fully engage during fights in comic books.

I just assumed that the animal portion of the ant was just a given.

I don't quite understand this last sentance. Are you saying that future arcs will become even more creative than the chimera ant arc or are you saying that he used up all his creativity in the ant arc and now he will most likeally not even try to achieve something as epic (epic meaning long and in this case you can also use the urban meaning for "that was completely mind blowingly awesome)

I was wondering that too, with my 3rd re-read of the series I began to notice the same exact thing.
I'm on my 4th re-read of the series and yes it's one of those series where future events are either hinted at or it makes sense why certain characters showed up at certain times.

looks like the anime too is on a break too…just when they are almost finished w/ that area.

Animes are allowed breaks? Why didn't they just break Naruto instead of doing 2 years of filler? Why dont they let OP have a break?

I don't know what Jedi Master is talking about, there has been no annoucement that the new HxH anime is on break. Last time It didn't air because of this UEFA thing, or so I heard.
Anime should appear this week as usual.
Also, this is offtopic, but you people should seriously stop dragging the Naruto/Bleach topic into every fucking thread, it's getting kinda annoying.
thanks -
Are you talking about me? I merely referenced the Naruto's anime refusal for breaks as a way to illustrated my surprise at hearing HXH's anime is allowed a break

Actually, Naruto was on break this week as well. Maybe it's a holiday or something.
-
The Hunter x Hunter anime will be back tonight, or early in the morning (depending on where you live).
Phantom Troupe character designs for the new anime.
-
^^^^Favorite arc. Well its tied with Ant arc as my fav. Like that other user was talking about, when you read that arc through without breaks, you catch so much set up and attention to detail. The events in the Ant arc have left so many repercussions for the series to now manage. Great stuff

Uvogin look'n like a boss
