Huh, so I didn't read your opinions on this series starting out and so I discovered it without having any other notions going in and I really liked it OH WELL GUESS I'M NOT CULTURED.
Anyways, I liked it, as I said, the author made a lot of really strong choices with the art as well as the storytelling, which I appreciated. It was nice to finally find a good psychological manga that wasn't excessively dreary throughout in the name of being arty or, like, 100 chapters or actually a fighting manga or some shit. The characters I liked too, the story, liked some people said, kinda reminded me of the few chapters of Liar Game I read except I didn't like Liar Game at alllllll….
The scenes, when it came right down to it, were suitably intense. I thoroughly enjoyed the parts where people were actively trying to drive each other to Mental Breaks. It was pretty cool, and I could actually believe that what happened could have driven those specific people to the point of craziness. It's all situational, I guess, and the part about the senses was a nice touch. And yeah, that's what I liked about it. I really liked the Goth Chick, too, every scene she was in was the awesomest.
As for the ending, yeah, it could have been more than fifteen chapters. We coulda seen more from the characters, learned more about the world in general, and yeah all the rest. Maybe draw out the deaths so that it's not just like a whole bunch of people die right away. And also maybe give a couple of characters some actual development so they don't spend the whole story being "the tough guy that doesn't do anything" and "the old guy that also doesn't do anything." I mean, what the hell was the bad guy anyway? The plot took a while to take off, but I guess some of it was necessary to make the rules of the game clear and all, and the last few pages were, uh, bad. But still I liked it.
