It really depends on the game and the admosphere it's trying to bring over.
Mario or Zelda with Realistic graphics just wouldn't fit.
But for let's say a game like Assasins Creed a cartoony style would just be wrong.

I think to have that work better have 6 shooters. 3 realistic and 3 cartoon and then figure out which is which. Makes the experiment more fair. Only problem is team fortress 2 is the only cartoon shooter i know
There's XIII

I just got my issue of ONM and it's all about kid icarus uprising and includes an interview with sakurai as well as hand's on with the game and various features
! -the first 3 bosses in the game are Twinbellows (3-headed fire dog) then Dark Lord Gaol (evil looking knight dude) and Hewdraw (3-headed dragon that you fight in the sky)
-During the Hewdraw fight depending on which head you cut off first the dialouge changes and if you take to long Paluntena attacks it with her God Blast.
-Characters like Magnus and Dark Pit don't neccesarily have big roles. Many characters appear in this game for 1 chapter and that's it.
-There are 9 classes of weapons:
-Bows
-Swords
-Clubs
-Gloves
-Guns
-Bombs
-Arm Canons
-'magical orbiting turrets'
-Staves
-Each category has a lot of weapons which you unlock throughout the game by doing achievements, streetpass or in chests
-you can't change weapons mid-chapter and in-between chapters you can buy and sell weapons.
-There is a trophy-like feature which involves the AR cards.
-The game has spotpass
-There are many bad puns within the game XD
-Medusa's army arn't the only villains in this game. Characters like Drak lord Goal are on entirelly different teams to medusa.
-You can go back and play any chapter once it is done and cutscenes are purposely very short.
-The circle Pad Pro is used but only with a left handed control scheme. You can't use it to control the camera instead of using the stylus.
-I think i might have read something about weapons leveling up in multiplayer but not single player.
-Also the game was made with the flying sections in mind and the land battles were added because sakurai knew that you can't have a full game with only the flying sections -
For those who are interested NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime will be on Spike Tuesday to discuss Wii U sometime between 4pm - 5pm.

Realistic ones kinda suffer for me because most of them look the same.
Lets compare three realistic looking games of the same Genre: Medal of Honour, Battlefield, Modern Warfare. Post random screenshots of them and don't tell anyone what series they're from. Hard to tell the difference.
Only if you're too stupid, lazy, blind, ignorant or just plain trolling.
Lets compare three unrealistic looking games of the same Genre: Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Rayman Origins. Egads! You can tell them apart
Well graphically/art wise yeah but fundamentally they're the same games just with differently plots and characters.

Have you actually ever played these games? Because you're the one who seems to be stupid, blind, ignorant, or trolling

Uh yea I've have played them and no I'm not being a hypocrite.W hat I was trying to say was that the gameplay amongst those games aren't drastically different from one another just like the other games that were mentioned. And yes I know that wasn't what Cyber-Robin was getting at when he was contrasting the shooters from the side-scrollers.

There's a diference between Gorilla/YarnThing/ThingwithoutArmsAndLegsButWithHandsAndFeets that uses it's abilities to Punch/YarnUp/SpinAround and Soldier/Soldier/Mercenary that ShootsWithModernWeapons/ShootsWithModernWeapons/ShootsWithModernWeapons.

But we agree that Gorilla/YarnThing/ThingwithoutArmsAndLegsButWithHandsAndFeets feature both similar and dissimilar aspects?
Specifically in their gameplay that makes them feel both alike and unlike one another just like Soldier/Soldier/Mercenary that ShootsWithModernWeapons/ShootsWithModernWeapons/ShootsWithModernWeapons of which that trait isn't inherently exclusive.
In other words side scrollers don't play that much differently amongst themselves just like FPS and yes eventhough BF3,MW3, & Medal Of Honor may look alike like I said before you'd have to be trying real hard not to notice the difference between the games.

I guess it's hard to break out of the restrictions of a genre without making it into a completely different genre, but they each have their own distinct strengths and weaknesses in terms of gameplay and I like that.
I haven't really seen any gameplay innovation to set FPS games apart from each other like that, though. I'd have difficulty to tell them apart from screenshots alone. -

In the platformers the games are differenciated by not only the art direction but little nuances on the gameplay, instead in the 3 fps you have to be a fan of the genere to Notice the diferences at first sight.

Lets do this (btw not using high resolution pics cause didn't want to make a post that has GIANT pics)
TRY AND GUESS EACH PIC IN LESS THAN .3 SECONDS
!
!
!AND AGAIN
TRY TO GUESS EACH PIC IN LESS THAN .3 SECONDS
!
!
!FYI for myself could not guess any of the first pics what game they are from and have played 2 of them. The last set I could guess each one instantly and have only played one of them. But maybe you can identify them all, but to say that the last three are not easier to tell the difference in is just being a blind fanboy troll. No one in their right mind would stand by their comment in saying that the first three are more easily identifiable than the last three. Even if you can't name which game is which, you can easily see the distinction between the last three and confidently say that those three are all pics from different games. But then again fanboys are not in their right mind, so…
-
I know the 2nd one is Battlefield 3. Cus I'm fairly sure I played that level recently. Although maybe the first one is also Battlefield 3. Last one I dunno
-
The first one is call of duty. I forget which one but i want to say modern warfare. the 3rd one is also call of duty MW3. It took me longer to get that one but i havn't played the game yet so that's why
-
well according to google images, where i got them. they are gameplay pics of the following games
first is medal of honor
second is battlefield 3
third is modern warfare 3if google images are wrong, that further proves our point that these games all basically look the same.
-
You should get screenshots without the UI elements (Life and ammo bars) those are the most distinctive elements.
-

That kind of defeats the purpose now doesn't it.
According to Green_vs_Red we are being lazy, stupid, ignorant, blind and trolling for not being able to tell FPS games apart, compared to the other three listed. If you need the UI to tell them apart, then doesn't that prove our point that they all look the same.

loooooool
Why are they blaming the Wii?
Blame themselves. They stock their shelves. If they stocked too many Wii things and didn't have enough room for other things that SOLD, then that's their fault.
If the shelf space was not an issue and they just expected Wii sales to be super high, then that is also their fault. Don't blame the Wii for your own wrong doing. Stupid Gamestop. I never go there
-
Stupid Gamestop. I never go there
From what I've gathered this is largely the problem. Apparently Gamestop didn't even bother doing special deals whereas places like Bestbuy did some pretty awesome ones on the Wii.
No new Hardware? Does the 3DS not technically count as new? Still less than a year old XD
-
So how many times has Nintendo gotten a Guinness award now?
-
Hmmm. So apparently Uncharted and Darksiders staff went over to Retro now. I'm sure this'll be awesome news to some people =3
-
For those interested, Metal Gear Solid 3D's coming out on February 21.
Geez, Tales of the Abyss, Devil Survivor 2, and this. My poor wallet. And of course my birthday's earlier in the month!
-
end of 2011 was all about the console games, 2012 is all about the handhelds games for me! I'm so excited for RE, Tales, KI, KH. The only console game I'm excited for is Xenoblade :)
-
I'm absolutely loving Tales of the Abyss. Mainly because this is one of the few ones I got to play (only others are Symphonia 1 and 2 and Eternia)

New Heroes of Ruin trailer.
-
Smiles are for kids.
-
Wow. I was totally expecting Boom Street to be one of those obscure titles that kinda pass us by. But nope. Asda was selling it. Picked it up for 29.99 today (well. Less since I got 10% off) too. Looks like Nintendo actually bother to promote Dragon Quest. Unlike square who just kinda throw it on the shelves and pray. (Honestly, I think DQ VI coulda done better if it had SOME hype.)
Considering Nintendo are apparently dealing with One Piece UC SP in Europe it has me crossing my fingers that it too will start getting recognition around here.
-
Heroes of Ruin looks horrible is that suppose to SE vrs of World of Warcraft? Sharkmen…this is just to much. Anyone know what's going on with the downloadable demos on 3DS in NA?
-
Ahn? World of Warcraft why? there are plenty of action rgps like that, its an action rpg, I though the sharks looked pretty cool.
Not really interested in the game either but that is definetly not one of the reasons for me not to buy it, if the game is good I won't stop buying it because I find a monster in the game stupid.
No idea, the japanese have been getting demos since December I believe or November, nothing for EU or US last time I checked.
-
Not having a problem with the models so much as with the color palette.
It just looks extremly disharmonic if you compare it to the likes of diablo 3. -
That would be kind of stupid just to dismiss a game because of one monster. Like DarthAsthma said the models look pretty bad and more cartoony compared to usual FF even more so then the DS remakes that I enjoyed. I was expecting something closer to how FF type 0 was but in a unique world. Guess have to wait and see what SE does with it. Even if their are many ARPG that look simiular doesn't mean they're good. Been looking forward to trying out RE Revelations for a while now.
-
Its not FF why would you expect that?
Oh and if the cartoon thing was the comparison to WoW I guess it fits and I like it XD matter of taste.
I'm more interested in Bravery Default from SE rigth now.
-
All the information for the new Suikoden you post Iv read and looked over that looks like it will be a good game , character design and the world look amazing. Only reason I'm not getting it I'm not keen on having to customize over 1oo different characters and knowing myself I would. I was expecting something high budget from SE similar to CAPCOM with RE Revelations and Monster Hunter 4. ARPG I'm looking forward to playing Xeonblade and KH3DS
-
I like the look of Heroes of Ruin. Dunno if i'll end up getting it tho. Hasn't impressed me that much.
-
Looks like mi to buy list for this year on the nintendo consoles will be
3DS:
Tales of the Abyss 3D
Paper Mario
Kingdom Hearts 3D
One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP(I cant accept this not coming)
Layton vs Phoenix Wright(This one is 2013 at the earliest)Wii:
Xenoblade
Fortune StreetI believe that will be all unless Im missing something
-
Kid Icarus? Animal crossing, resi or metal gear? Unless there not your sort of games. Also last story and pandora's tower if they come out in americe
-
What about Luigi's Mansion 2?
-
What I'm mostly interested hasn't been confirmed to come out in Europe so its sucks… by that I mean the rpgs that have been announced.
I'm interested in Animal Crossing, Luigi Mansion 2, Dynasty Warriors Vs and that is probably what I can remembe right now and Fire Emblem, these 4 will most likelly come out here.
I have Tales of Abyss for PS2, I have both one piece games for WII, Kingdom Hearts I liked it but I haven't played any in a while, I probably get it if it comes out here but I'm not terribly excited, Kid Icarus I don't really care much either, same for MGS and Resident Evil I was a huge fan of both games as a kid but nowadays I don't really have much interest in them(I know its weird).
What I would like to come out here and to buy is, Inazuma eleven Go which won't, the second Inazume Eleven is going to come out here this year, so the 5th won't come out before the others, Bravely Default, Fantasy Life, Code of Princess(game looks pretty cool) and DQ: Monsters.
-
Not one of those interest me, maybe my tastes are too different from the general public
-
I feel sad for your list since most of those are out already in the UK. (and the only one not announced is Layton which will be end of the year probably.) Xenoblade will make it all worthwhile tho~

Sometimes I feel sad that there isnt a Nintendo of Mexico or for any other country in the continent and all the options are taken by NoA and Reggie

THQ is working on 2 unannounced Wii U games
Any guesses?
-
Shitty WWE games.
-
The first is one definitely WWF, but the other ones definitely aren't. They wouldn't be so exclusive then.
-
Sooner or later THQ needs to admit yukes can't make a decent wrasslin' game to save their lives and give dev of the franchise back to AKI(assuming they even still exist).
-

Probably other shitty comercial games, dunno, not a huge fan of THQ.
