Oh man, I hear this song all the time at work over the PA system. Nice to finally sit down and actually listen to it (also, I had no idea Dusty Springfield sang it). Gotta admit, I love this song. I can't help but love a nice upbeat fast-paced song that puts you in a good mood. No, it's nothing deep, but it's still a fun song to listen to. I definitely need to add this song to my playlist.

Barenaked Ladies is one of those bands I've put on hold so I can listen to them properly for ages. The time has come.
That song is pretty catchy, fun to listen to. I like the emphasis on easygoing acoustic guitar work. I like the song, it was very enjoyable, although on the third listen the woohoo hooo got a little annoying, still i liked it. I'll keep on listening to some of their other work meanwhile.Thanks.Best if listened to with headphones/earphones.
The Olivia Tremor Control is one of the few bands that make me lay back, close my eyes and enjoy without any distractions.
This album "Black Foliage" particularly it's one of my all time favorites. -
That was a very intresting song, kinda psychadelic but also with it's own kinda sound. It has already found a place in my mp3-player. :)
It had my attention from the start, all kinda weird, kinda noisy sounds really appealed to me. Lyrics, eh, I don't understand a thing what they are trying to say, but reminds me of one of my favorite bands, Blue Öyster Cult.
Can't think of anything else to say. Also. I need to be writing less and listening more… spaced out ...To the rest of their stuff. -
Haha great song. Like some demon summoning. Could have developed a little bit earlier though. At first I was hooked, then it got boring and I though: Do something! Took them another halv a minute or so but then they did something. 2:20 owards is the best part of it.
Here's a short one.
-
Happy a song was like this was the first one I listened to in this thread in over a month. The most distinguishing thing about the song is the singers accent, which really works pretty well with the song. Pretty simple background music for the majority of the song- hear a trumpet, the drums, some keyboard, but at the end it becomes bit more intense. The lyrics of the song are pretty strong, and actually have seem meaning behind it. Sadly enough the guys who need to listen to a song like this are not the types who would actually look for it.
-
I dunno. This is a hard song to say something about as I feel it's mostly about it's message. And yeah, it's nice to hear
musicians that care about something more then filling there own pockets with as much money as possible.
The music itself is good but not outstanding or anything…
Eh, then again, perhaps you don't even want that in a song such as this... So yeah. Hard song... -
Well, that was interesting. I really can't think of any other way to describe that music other than it being purely chaotic. Strangely enough, to me, it also sounds like it could be part of the soundtrack or score to a movie. Just…...gosh, I don't really know what else to say about it. It didn't really evoke any emotions in me, but it was fun and interesting to listen to. Is it something I'd go out of my way to listen to again? No, but thank for a most unique interesting experience.
Anyway, as for my video, this is originally from the musical Cats, but I love Manilow's cover of it.
!
And guys, can we please start tagging these videos, because it's doing murder on my browser (and I assume many other people's) -
I had to look up a rather low quality dailymotion live/playback version because it's not available in Germany and the proxy didn't work -.- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xas3lk_manilow-memory_music#rel-page-4
Anyway I liked the song. I must have heard it before, but I have no idea when or where. Probably in the radio as a child. Anyway I recognized it right away and it had a nice and cosy feel to it right away. Kinda schmaltzy too. I probably wouldn't listen if I hadn't known it ^^
My god it's been a month. I have gathered way to many songs… which one to post? Let me first get this guy out of the way.
-
Wow that was somewhat fast giving my somewhat untrained ears a little bit of a hard time to understand everything. The nature of the video made it seem kind of freestylish (if it is kudos that pretty skillfull).
All in all it's somewhat to bland right now for my everchanging tastes.
So I'll go along with the rap trend for now.Flobots - White Flag Warrior feat. TimMcIlrath(Rise Against)
http://www.artistdirect.com/video/flobots-white-flag-warrior-ft-tim-mcilrath/2081
Sorry that there's no functioning youtube link available
-
I enjoyed it, but that was not enough to get me interested in the band. Tim's voice is always welcomed in any song, even though I don't feel his voice mixed well with the song. I really liked the violin and the drums but the linking park feeling at some parts kind of killed it for me. When it comes to bands that try to mix rap and rock I've noticed only a few actually find a good balance between the two, this one doesn't (for me at least).
I'm going to divert a little from the rap trend, towards a more indie rock style:This one is from a local band, it's in Spanish, hope you guys/girls don't mind, and still give it a try.
–-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The band is called 424, the song Mapas y Caminos (maps and roads). –-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
This one is from a local band, it's in Spanish, hope you guys/girls don't mind, and still give it a try.
Nah, I don't mind. :)
It's a nice rock piece with good singing. (And yeah, since I don't know the language I should put a disclaimer here that I can't really speak for pronunciation and such.) I also like the drums for some reason or another. And the video is really good, looks like it could have been made without a huge budget. And going by the title I'll assume that there is some kinda though behind it. -
What differentiates music from noise? For me Rythym and melody. Since this has neither, it's just noise. I might as well listen to cars driving by my window.
It's been a while since I posted some old stuff..
-
That woman has a nice 60s voice. She doesn't look all that into it, but she has a good soothing voice. The song is definitely pleasant, and a good throwback to the 60s kind of sunshine pop in sound. It's nothing challenging, but that is not what it sets out to do. It wants to be simple, mellow and pleasing and does that quite well. I can't say the song really stands out to me by any measure, but I found it to be enjoyable for what it was.
And now for something completely different:
-
Aw perfect christmas tune! Good mixture of an awsome thrash riff and death vocals. I'm digging it. Here have another one!
-
I don't listen to much heavy metal, I should because it's really… Powerful? Well, and angry.
Something this song lives up to. It's in the music, the lyrics, the singing and allwhere else. Some parts of the song reminds me of At The Gates. A heavy metal band I know of! Ha! I'm not completely illiterate!
It might be somewhat too long but otherwise I like it!(The real music starts a twelve seconds or so in.)
-
Umm…................that was music? I guess the point of it was that he was attempting to make some kind of music out of mechanical grinding and beeping, and yeah, those are always interesting, but it didn't really do much for me. At times it felt like he might get some kind of beat or rhythm, but it always fell back to what sounded like just a bunch of noise from a factory (maybe that was the point?). Still, I have to respect those who think outside the box and attempt to do interesting things with music, but I won't be listening to it again any time soon.
Anyway, I think we're overdue for some Beatles.
-
One of my favourite Beatles song – everybody seems to think I'm lazy, I don't mind I think they're crazy! Running everywhere at such a speed, until they find there's no need!~
Love the bass line into the Keeping an eye on the world coming by my window part, it's one of those classic Beatles moments, and then of course the psychedelic backwards effect to emphasize the dream like mood of the song. Lovely stuff!
Next up, Fela Kuti the man who lived one of the most extraordinary lives I've heard of. Let the Afrobeat roll
-
Damn, Bart, that's a sweet track. Reminds me of Cowboy Bebop with a more modern touch. Dat beat compliments the piano riffs nicely, and I even like the backing vocals. The sax fills and solos also remind me of Nujabes. There's not much more for me to say. I'm definitely downloading that track in the future. Good-ass music. Not sure if the song is old or new, it's probably older but the quality is impeccable.
I've posted this band before but don't assume I'm a close-minded guy when it comes to music. I'm just trying to show people how good these guys are. They went from modern 80s new wave ska band all the way to a brit rock, shoegazer, experimental electro sound.
Bit boring at first but gets better.
-
Very nice! The song is just flowing and takes you with it. A good melody somewhere between rock and pop. I don't understand a word of course but I never felt like I had to.
You can to turn up the volume a lot for this one. Youtube made it quiet. Its not supposed to be that way.
-
Well that was.. interesting. But enjoyable! I was surprised at first that I found myself liking it, but after listening to it a few times I realized it has many similarities to music I usually listen too. I like the contrast between the upbeat beginning and the downbeat end, and the transition between them was my favorite part.
Cryoshell - The Room (No relation to Tommy Wiseau's masterpiece)
-
Pretty nice to listen to, I really dig the piano parts and the voice which are both very beautiful. The drums and can't point out exactly the other instrument during the chorus (maybe keyboard?) give this song a lot of power. Strangely even though it's very nice to listen to it has something haunting and makes me feel a little bit heavy. Bottom line, I like it.
-
That was pretty amazing. When I first started playing the song I didn't watch the video. I thought well its a nice little tune, they sure can sing and its very melodic. It was kind of a shocker to see how they played this after a minute of just listening xD
So yeah great things. Sometimes you find them on the internet.I've been getting into Indy latly… I wonder how. None of my friends listens to it. Not many here do either...
-
I've never been a fan of Indy music, so this one just sort of falls flat for me. It's mostly the singer, who sounds so dreary. The music behind it is quite peaceful, so I think I would like it better if it was an instrumental.
And now something totally different.
-
Well, that was a song to get the adrenaline pumping. I like how the beat suddenly stops from time to time, giving the song some unpredictability. That being said, it is a bit disappointing that the song stays pretty consistent throughtout and doesn't really go through any tempo shifts. But it's a relatively short song and it's meant to be chaotic and exciting, so I guess it doesn't really need to change.
Anyway, got a Billy Joel's greatest hits CD and I'm really diggin' it. Just thought I'd share the love.
-
I never listened to Billy Joel that much. Maybe I should. I liked this song. A bit on the slow side. I'm kinda tired right now and this songs fits in ^^
More weird stuff…
-
I really liked that. As with any music not in English, I had no idea what the lyrics were. But it's better that way. I also like synthetic music, so this is right up my alley. It has a good beat, and I especially like the chorus, because of the faster pace.
-
I liked Evanescence for about two months, but then I grew out of them. Hearing that one song almost every time I turned on the radio got really annoying after awhile. It's been awhile since I've heard it, but I think this remix is alright.
I just got through listening to this. Meat Loaf's one of those singers who I never expected to be a fan of. His albums with Jim Steinman were always the best, including…
-
For some reason when I saw the cover for this album I pictured something along the lines of hardcore metal, so I was preparing my ears for what was to come. To my surprise I got some truly genuine rock and roll that was oddly enough pretty relaxing. Really this old school stuff is really the best. 70s and 80s music really have a unique atmosphere that really doesn't exist anymore. Truly I enjoyed this one. Good Pick.
Anyway lets have some fun. Haven't posted for awhile.
-
Once again Hawkeye, you prove to have impeccable taste in hip-hop and make me want to stop procrastinating and start exploring the genre to discover more of this good stuff. Always nice to hear a hip hop song where the singer isn't yelling or cussing his brains out. This was a really cool and atmospheric song; great for easy listening. My only complaint is that they don't really mix up the beat or rhythm throughout the song so I'm not sure if it needed to go on quite as long as it did. Otherwise, really fantastic song.
Anyway, time for some more Duran Duran.
FYI, this was just released last year.
-

Darn it, you beat me to it. Yes, everything Nobody said, really awesome song, I also listened to some of their other songs in youtube, liked what I heared. Keep them coming Hawkeye!
@Nobodyman:Anyway, time for some more Duran Duran. FYI, this was just released last year.
I've always been a fan of Duran Duran, I didn't know they had new material, I'll listen to the whole thing next. Anyways, loved the song, instant classic for me. I already added it to one of my favorite playlists! For some reason it makes me feel melancholic, I guess I like that. They've kept their essence but do sound a tad bit more modern.
–---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And now for something completely different and much more laidback!
-
Well, that was definitely laidback. I normally don't like songs like this, but I thought this one was okay. I like the singer's voice, it totally suits the style of song. It also creates a good atmosphere, very tropical and what not. Overall I enjoyed it, if only because I'm in the mood for the type of song at the moment.
-
Well, first off- really interesting looking cover for this song. Don't exactly know what it is- maybe a dinosaur in a trench coat looking at yellow stoplight. Anyway, really liked the voice of the women though didn't really understand what she said. Well, what she said doesn't really matter in a song like this which really depends mostly on the actual sound of her voice to compliment the atmosphere of this song. Really liked electronic feel this song had. Good pick.
Posted a song by this guy a year or two back but he is really good even though he sings in French- his voice just emanates feeling to the point where the language in itself doesn't matter. Personal opinion of course. Let us see what all of you think.
-
[…]his voice just emanates feeling to the point where the language in itself doesn't matter. Personal opinion of course. Let us see what all of you think.
I would tend to agree. I don't listen to much French music, exept for a small foray into their hiphop scene a few years ago.
But I'm not so uncultivated to not have heard Édith Piaf. And, yeah, he reminds me of her.
So, good singing loaded with tons of 'em feelin's and stuff. Dunno how someone could not like this.
(…well, there are all sort of weirdos around, of course, thankfully. ) -
Amazing how important you sound singing such unimportant lyrics. xD
Well its a song from the romantic about romantic things. I listened to another version and found it much better because this guy is so into it that I can't even understand him at some points. The piano playing on the other hand is better here. That was very nice. Here's the other version if you are interested:Stay romantic but a bit newer
-
Not what I usually listen to, it sounds very 80s like, and that's not a bad thing, I'm from the 80's after all. To be honest this is the first time I listen to any of her songs but I really like her voice, the song was catchy enough for me to listen to it twice in a row. Yea it is a good old pop song.
–---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know it's mid winter season for most of you guys/girls, but not here where I live, it's summer, so I've been in the mood for more reggae/roots and the such lately. This song is not as laidback as the one I posted a few posts above, it's more of a dance/corporal expression type of music song as it can also be seen in the video.
These guys are awesome live: -
I must be warming up to this type of music. I used to not like it, but I liked the last song you posted and I like this one too. Still a lot slower than what I usually listen to, but I won't disagree when you say it's a dance/corporal expression type of song. I liked how the song flowed from areas of low tempo to high tempo, although I liked the faster parts better because it really gets you head bobbing. It definitely instills some groove when listening to it.
-
Aah, Nightwish. How nostalgic! :) Some of my friends used to listen to them all the time way back when we were playing paper&pen RPGs.
They are still as grand as always I hear.
This is with the old singer though? I heard they changed or something. Well no matter. It's a good song that mixes classical/symfonic/whatever with metal in a way that doesn't want me to rip my ears of. (Which is what happen most of the time to me with that mix). :P -
Get this up on yo ears right now people!
I am, however, not held responsible for any brain explosions/implosions or a loss of words or anything along those lines.
Because this is just…
EPICNESS.
-

Because this is just…
EPICNESS.You do know that you're supposed to comment on the video above yours before you post your own, right?
No matter though, I have no problem doing both.
The Shaggs- This is… I don't know what this is. I've never heard of The Shaggs before, so I'm gonna guess this is their style? It doesn't seem to flow nicely, especially the vocals with the instruments. For me, that is very annoying. The parts themselves sound okay, but when put in such stark contrast to one another, it sounds like a mess. That had to have been the intention, but for me, it doesn't come off very well.
DragonForce- I used to like DragonForce, back when the only song I knew was Into the Fire and Flames, but then I listened to more of their stuff and realized that all their songs sound exactly the same. This one is no different. Until they do something new, it is just boring and repetitive.
-
Good song. Very fast and intense, but not intense to the extent of hardcore heavy metal, just how I like it. They did a lot of cool things with the instrumentals going from fast rapid beats to a kind of light jingling sound. I will say though that I do get kinda sick of singers in this (and I guess other) genres muffling their voice through a voice filter. I just don't see the point of it and I don't really consider it an improvement. But, on the whole, it's still a good song and enjoyed listening to it.
-
First song by The Might Be Giants that isn't a "funny song". And it turns out that they are really good. :)
The lyrics are awesome, dunno what they mean but it have a spacey feeling. Maybe because it reminds me of a short sci-fi comic by some east-european dude I read a long time ago. It had some sort of an alien audience chamber, and the aliens had detachable heads… Well, what ever, it's not super-relevant. :P
I like this song better then their other, more well known, songs...
Those are good too, but I grow tired of such songs kinda quickly.
This album I might listen to for a while.EDIT: Man, that first sentence is completely wrong. What I meant to say was: " First song by The Might Be Giants that I'VE HEARD that isn't a "funny song". " :S
-
I decide to come in here for the first time in a while and what do I find? Klaus Nomi. This guy was incredibly underrated. A very unique character and even more unique musical sound. Operatic vocals are hard to come by in rock, at least in my experience. This song is also one of the songs made original for him, rather than the many great covers he did. Commenting on the music aside from his amazing voice, I really dig the synth. The music, otherwise, is rather standard but that just boosts it to magic. It's simple, catchy and comes with a fantastic vocal delivery to tie it together. Plus, Nomi's quite the sharp dresser.
-
One of the things I love most about this thread is how it introduces you to new artists. This is just another example of me finding a new song that I really like. As per usual, I have no idea what is being said, but that doesn't matter. The music reminds me of some other song I like, although I can't think of what it is. I think it's a Gorillaz song. Whatever. The song has a good tune, and a very upbeat quality to it, which is contrasted nicely with the less upbeat vocals. Good song.
-
@ Wagomu: Feel free to post your favourite The Sword song sometime, cause Warp Rider is almost the extend of what I've heard from them.
Oh God, memories! They used to play that song like once every hour when I still watched MTV :D
@Aioria: That was a wonderful song. I like songs like that fuse contrasting styles as fluently as this one. And in this case I even like both parts the layed back one and the rock part. I don't understand a word of it but I find the video hillarious and the song goes to my playlist.
Once again Computer Game music. This time from a game that I still play from time to time (even though I suck at it :D)
:D Well nothing has changed since then. Expect that I got a friend of mine to play Civ4 with me and got a bit better at the game ^^
Yeah great song. Enven though knowing the lyrics takes away some of the fun.Staying with games
-
Hm,The Curse of Monkey Island… Dunno if I've played that one. I know I have played some of the Monkey Island games. I'm just unsure wich ones exactly. Can't say I remember this song. It's a nice tune. With a carribiean feel going, wich is great for a piratey-song.
(The music starts about half a minute in.)
-
I didn't expect to be so hooked to this one. It reminds me a bit of a mellowed out Janis Joplin with a jazzy beat.
I heard this one for the first time on the radio today, and I'm totally addicted. Before, the only Doors songs I'd ever heard were The End, and Light My Fire, so I really didn't have an opinion of them. Now, I might have added another band to add to the classic rock binge I've been on lately.
-
…Meh. I can't say I have any problems with the song, but it's just not the kind of music I listen to. I think it has a good hook, though. And I do like it better than some other classic rock I've heard. Again, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
I feel a lot of people refused to give the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack a chance because it wasn't composed by Nobuo Uematsu. I actually enjoyed it very much, and this is one of my favorites.
-
I haven't even played one lousy Final Fantasy game… Very unprofessional of me, I know. So I can't judge how well this would fit in in that setting. And that's like... Perhaps the most important part of game-music.
Judging it by itself. It's not bad by any measure but I can't say it catches my fancy. The lyrics are like, words that sounds nice, put together... The result seems kinda nonsensical. Haha. -
Didn't know what to expect when I saw the cover but I guess this song fits it pretty well. Somewhat crazy, with a whole bunch of instruments playing at the same time. Really, songs like this are so much fun to listen to because you really can't predict what direction the song is heading to. Really like the part near the end when there was actually someone singing. Gave me a really good laugh hearing them making sounds. Overall this song was very good indeed.
-
Meh. I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop, so I didn't like it all that much. I did like the instruments during the chorus and bridge though. Had a nice jazz feel to it.
