Well, if you want more Muppet fun, but less spoilers for the movie, how's about some clips from Monday's WWE RAW, where the Muppets were special guests? You don't really need to know the wrestlers to enjoy them, but I'll give context if people want…
The Muppets
-
-
And something else non-spoilery, Miss Piggy's InStyle Interview:
-
That's not Frank Oz, right? I'm fairly sure he retired from Piggy a few years back, but you really can't tell, its dead on.
In fact, for all the complaints that people throw upon the Muppets sounding weird since Jim Henson's death (and maybe its just cause its been 20 years and its been new people my whole life) they've gotten pretty good and close to the original voices.
-
In prep for the new movie coming, I'm rewatching the old Muppet films. Already watched the original, and on Great Muppet Caper now. And its been a looong time since I've seen Caper or Manhattan properly. Also plan on hitting up Christmas and Treasure Island by the end of the month.
I'd forgotten just how fourth wall breaking these movies could be.
Stuff like watching the opening credits, talking specifically about how they were making a movie, or Fozzie and Kermit being cast as identical twins… "Why are you telling me all this?" "It's plot exposition, it has to go somewhere."
fun stuff.
-
I've resisted the urge to view more movie clips, but I may have to do this: on the Muppet Facebok page, you can join in on the never-ending Mahna Mahna Phenomena! XD
-
They said it was the last Spoof Trailer.
They LIED. (no new footage, I promise)
Also, a few mini-spoofs that aren't trailers:
!
!Dammit, why couldn't they give the Muppets the Oscar hosting job instead of Billy Crystal?! D:
-
Dammit, why couldn't they give the Muppets the Oscar hosting job instead of Billy Crystal?! D:
Because then I might have actually watched a boring awards show?
-
To be fair, it's probably harder to do a Muppet show on such short-notice. Billy Crystal can do it in his sleep.
But hopefully (and if the movie does well), we'll see the Muppets host next year.
-
Oh, by the way guys.
We may have yet another reason to go see this movie. Not only do we get to see the Muppets back in action.
Not only do we get to see a brand spanking new Toy Story short from Pixar, called "Small Fry" (which looks awesome, but who's surprised by that?). But now.
NOW, there's people saying that also attached to The Muppets will be the trailer for Pixar's next animated blockbuster, Brave.
…It's official, Disney's trying to kill us with awesome. Entire theaters full of people are going to drop from the sheer overdose of win.
-

I wish I could make it to the theatre first day. Will have to wait until the saturday though, after all the awesome has already been leaked out.

Twilight Muppets.

[/hide]I wish this ad campaign would never end.

This is fantastic! Jason Seigel and Kermit personally ask Amy Adams to be in the movie.
http://www.deadline.com/2011/11/kermit-and-jason-segel-beg-for-amy-adams/
Kermit's face at the end SLAYED me! -
We now have a sneak preview of the soundtrack for The Muppets; there isn't anything super spoilery in the songs, but as always, it's up to you:
God, so excited for this movie. Hurry, hurry! D<
-
So my sister's a film student, and goes to see free advance screenings of a lot of films that come out - at Temple everyone in the Theater and Communications departments gets e-mailed when new stuff is about to show.
Tons of people at the premiere, apparently. They gave out special prizes to folks wearing green, and filmed the entire theater doing the Menah Menah song to send it off to Disney in a show of Muppet solidarity.
But anyway, what you really wanna hear is what she thought, and, in her words:
"_HOLY FUCK MUPPETS MOVIE YOU GUYS
it was everything I hoped it would be and more
IT IS SO FUCKING GREAT
THERE ARE JUST
NO WORDS_"
She gushed over the phone at me for how much it exceeded her expectations, for she was worried and earnestly wants the movie to succeed. The Muppets are timeless, for us.
So hearing her, (and reading advance reviews) I have high hopes!Next week can't come quickly enough.
-
ALSO, Kermit was on Canadian Latenight show "The Hour" to promote the movie. It's freaking hilarious:
-
Oh yes, I was wondering if that had been posted already. It's, you know, just a little damn loveable.
CG has put up such a wall between us and actors like this. More muppets, more anamatronics! - I say. But I'm biased.
-
Because, why not
-
Kermit and Miss Piggy were in a Mahna Mahna sketch for Children in Need last night too. Wasn't particularly anything special but nice to see they'll be hyping the film up over here when it's released in Feb
-
The first 8 reviews and it's 100% on the Tomatometer!
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_muppets/But what has me even more excited are these two reviews, written by our generation reviewers:
http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/motion-captured/posts/review-the-muppets-is-a-big-hearted-star-packed-slice-of-awesome
http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/The-Muppets-5560.htmlBoth comment on how the movie is like an effort against our age of cynicism. And how the spirit of Jim Henson apparently has been hiding in all of us who grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppets. CAN'T WAIT.
-
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me. -
God, I had such belief that this movie was going to do it right, but 8/8 Fresh reviews so far? I think I'm going to be bowing before Jason
SeagullSegel after this. And my theater websites have finally updated to the 23rd, so I know the showtimes; I just need to decide if I want to go to the cheapie theater or the other one (I already know I'm seeing it a couple times with friends). 5 bucks says I cry at least twice in this movie, not including when Rainbow Connection starts up.
That Hitflix review pretty much hits it on the head for me. The Muppets isn't just about nostalgia for me; it's about going to a warmer, more heartfelt form of entertainment in a world where reality tv, gory crime dramas and CGI rules the airwaves. Sure, things like Three and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory are out there too, but where's the old family sitcom's like Home Improvement, Fresh Prince, and Boy Meets World that had that joy and warmth to it, even on its most serious episodes? We need to get that back again, and if anyone can do it, it's the Muppets.
eyes Robby's new icon …So. Muppet icons to celebrate the premier this week, Y/N?
-
Up to 11 reviews and still 100% fresh!
-
My oldest sister is taking her daughter (who we've forged into a new Muppet fan who adores Beaker) on Black Friday. I'm hoping I can go too.
I'm going to start avoiding this thread because I don't want to spoil anything, but I'm hoping this movie will make me laugh and cry.
-
Aah, so glad to hear about the positive reviews. I'm super super psyched to go see it.
-
IGN loves it:
http://movies.ign.com/articles/121/1212354p1.html -
I just can't get over the reviews for this. It's sitting at a 100% Fresh rating on RT, with an 8.5/10 average grade by the critics. On Rotten-freaking-Tomatoes. There's pretty much one part in the whole damn movie I've read that's kinda bad, but even that doesn't seem awful so much as corny (and are we really going to complain about corny?) I'm getting petrified that all this positive hype over the film may actually leave me disappointed in the end.
But probably not.
And none of my friends can come with me on opening night. None. Seriously? The movie at the very top of my huge 'to-see' list this year, and no one can go with me on Wednesday? Fffffffff…
I'm going to have to check in with some co-workers, I remember a few of them having interest in seeing it. If not, I'm going solo.
-
I know the movie isn't out just yet, but if anyone knows and can, find out if there is anything after the credits. I want to make sure if I should stay after.
-
Amazon is currently having a sale on the Muppets soundtrack. Not sure if its a cyber monday or a black friday or a week of release thing, but you can download it for 5 bucks or get the actual cd for 7. I just looked the other day and it was going for about twice that.
http://www.amazon.com/Muppets-Soundtrack/dp/B005NKIQ3K/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1321901497&sr=8-7
The Green Album was kind of weak and misguided, but this looks to be way better. Though obviously its a little spoilery for the actual movie…
-
I'm planning to stay to the end Insider, I'll fill you in. ^^

Amazon Canada doesn't have that deal, what a gyp!…Ahhhhhhh, but the iTunes version of the soundtrack includes a 31st song on it; Kermit singing 'The Rainbow Connection' solo (save for some backup on the chorus). I'd pay an extra couple bucks for that, plus the guarantee of being able to re-download if my computer craps out on me. I'm considering buying the actual CD anyway, just for the wacky images that are sure to be in there.
EDIT: 20 REVIEWS IN AT ROTTEN TOMATOES. STILL 100% FRESH.

Make that 27 and still 100% fresh!

28! So it looks like people are pretty much agreed its great then. Nice.
Arthur Christmas is also doing really well, its at 95% right now with 38 reviews.
A fantastic review from Aintitcool that talks about cynicsm and how muppets make it all better. I especially like this bit.
Miss Piggy loves her frog, even through difficult times, and it's telling that the generation that got used to the idea of these two in love has been the most accepting of other people's lifestyles. Love is what it is, and the Muppets know that better than anybody.
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/52033
And an interview with the director (spoiler alert)
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/52042 -
Armond White . . . he's that ass who gave Toy Story 3 a thumbs down, wasn't he? Feh.
And we're up to 30!
-
Armond White . . . he's that ass who gave Toy Story 3 a thumbs down, wasn't he? Feh.
Yeah, that's the one. Just as long as you're ready for it it won't be quite as annoying when he ruins it. Because we all know it's coming. He really is a professional troll, contrary just to be contrary.
But in the spirit of the muppets being not-cynical and upbeat, I'm going to let that inevitability go.
So who is actually seeing this at midnight, or tomorrow? I don't think I'll get to it before Saturday.
-
Definitely Friday. From what I'm hearing, my chances of seeing this on Friday is practically sealed. I'm so glad my family wants to see this just as badly as I do…except my father. He's bitching that we're dragging his ass over to watch it. He's reluctant, but I know deep inside, he'll enjoy the movie. I know him.
I'm just happy that I'm going to watch it with my niece. She used to be afraid of the Muppets namely due to the fact that she was once afraid of majority of Sesame Street characters (it started with a fear of the "Yepyepyepyep" aliens, and then it turned to a fear of Cookie Monster). Now? Kid loves all these guys. Namely Beaker.
I know Muppets aren't Christmas related, but all this fun is putting my in the Christmas spirit. ^_^
-
43 reviews and still 100%! DAYUM!
-
H](http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_muppets/news/1923979/five_favorite_films_with_kermit_the_frog_and_miss_piggy_too/)ahaha, i think there´s a pig scene in there xD oh, god.
-
So. I've listened to the soundtrack now. I had planned to hold off till after seeing the movie, I was just buying it while it was priced low. But… it was sitting there. And I couldn't help myself. Its a bit spoilery (a couple fairly big gags seem to be given away) but wow.
This is just going to be something else. I might need to find a way to see it before Saturday.
-
49 REVIEWS AND STILL 100%!
This is better than I'd ever hoped for. If this keeps up, we may have a new entry on RT's Top 100 Rated Movies list! Hell, we may actually get ourselves a new Muppet Show (or at least a few specials each year)!
@RobbyBevard:
So who is actually seeing this at midnight, or tomorrow? I don't think I'll get to it before Saturday.
No midnight showing here (BOOOOO!), but I'm seeing it at 6:55pm tomorrow night (with an ex-coworker/buddy). I WOULD go see it at the 3:45 showing, but that darn 'have to work, need money to live' thing got in the way. :/ I'll fill you guys in if you need to stay after the credits.
Tomorrow, a year's worth of waiting comes to an end. 8D
-
With my work schedule I can't make any midnight showings. I hope to see it Friday or Saturday.
Oh, I would LOVE to have a new Muppet Show. Think of all the fresh celebs that could go on it. Hell, the first episode could open with Lady Gaga, she'd be PERFECT for it.
Muppets Tonight was alright, but they got a few key things wrong. A. They replaced Kermit as host. Clifford wasn't bad, but you can't have the show without Kermit hosting. If their roles as producer/host had been switched it would have been a lot better. B. Not nearly enough of the old favorites. New muppets are good, but there wasn't nearly enough Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, etc. C. The late night show theme ala Letterman didn't really fit. Muppets are Variety Show, not Late-Night.
-
Aintitcool just keeps doing articles. Now they have an interview with Kermit. Take it as you will.

70 reviews and still 100% fresh, bitches!!!

..and the streak is broken. It was inevitable, but still… 2 negative reviews out of 89, (strange that they both came within like 10 minutes of each other) putting it at 98% currently. When you say that Statler and Waldorf are the only funny part, that probably says something about your attitude to begin with.
Ah well, there's still another 50-100 or so reviews to come in, another positive review or two and it'll bump back up to 99% and end up being Toy Story 3 review levels regardless. Still, its tracking better than the original Muppet movie!
And we're all going to see it anyway, so how much does it really matter?
EDIT: 100 reviews, 3 of them negative. It is a true and genuine 97% at the moment.
Extra annoyingly, when its at that scale, it takes like 20 positives to undo one negative.
-
We're now at 97 of 100 reviews being Fresh, and Armond White still nowhere in sight. It's now officially been Certified Fresh.
I'm kinda pissed that a Canadian paper gave it a rotten review. How could my fellow countrymen betray me like that?!
…Oh wait, it was The Globe and Mail.
Doesn't count.
Two hours before I see the movie~! 8D
-
This movie was utterly fantastic. Just got back from it.
If you were on the edge about seeing it in theaters, go. You'll be doing yourself a disservice by waiting to see it.
-
Let the warning now be known: PUT ALL SPOILERS BEHIND SPOILER TAGS!!!!!!!!
-
Goes to Rottentomatoes
lol @ 'Jack and Jill'
'Although it features an inexplicably committed performance from Al Pacino, Jack and Jill is impossible to recommend on any level whatsoever.'Looking forward to seeing 'The Muppets' based on how good it's doing.

Is there stuff after the credits?!

Is there stuff after the credits?!
If you wait long enough there's another showing of the movie.
Serious answer… I dunno.
