Please explain to me how Luffy doesn't look his age. At least it's not like the various other manga where we have 17-19 year old looking characters, only to find out they're preteens still in middle school.
Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece

Do i have to explain? really?Everyone knows that Luffy looks like a 14 year old.I mean look at this

Yes you do have to explain, and not just post a random picture and assume that "everyone agrees with you" because this is art and art is subjective, so you need to explain your points.
Posts random picture where Luffy looks older
It's a cartoon. It has a lot less detail than real life so it's harder to pin an age down. Also, in some panels Luffy will look younger and jovial while sometimes he'll appear a bit older and serious, depending on the situation. This is a common convention in many manga. Some may think Luffy looks 14, others may think he looks 19. Fact of the matter is, it's Oda's manga, and Oda says post-timeskip Luffy is 19, and that's the way he's drawn, so if you have a problem with his appearance then either stop complaining or stop reading. I, and many others, think he looks fine. Just accept it and enjoy! -

Posts random picture where Luffy looks olderThats just a bunch of excuses. You dont see people complaining that Sanji,Nami,Zoro dont look their ages. Why? becuse they do look theirv ages. There is nothing subjective about that-fact is fact.I cant post one picture of them where they didnt look their ages-But I can easily do so for Luffy.Noone would complain that Luffy should look his age if he actually did.

Hody Jones was nothing but a third-rate version of Arlong.

But the complaints about Luffy revolve around "omggg he should have grownnn, 2 short for pirat3 king!!1" which has no impact on the story whatsoever. I can flip your question and say why does everyone complain about Luffy not growing when no one else did? Besides Franky. And I don't want to hear that most of them are older than Luffy so they stopped growing… Because like I said before, the height patterns in OP are ridiculous.
-
Luffy doesn't look like a 14 year old, at all. maybe your idea of a 14 year old is distorsed by those series which use 20+ year old actors as teenagers. Where I live 14 year old people look more and more like if they were 10 or less.

What do you mean? All the Shs look more mature thn they didd Posttimeskip all except Luffy. My piont stands.
If he looked like he did in Romance dawn that would be something.
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/one_piece/v00/c001.1/26.htmlSee how mature he loks facially.

Here that stopped a few years ago and now every new generation is shorter and shorter.

The original discussion was a height argument, that's what I was referring to. Idk why we got into this. Oh, and;
All of the SHs look more mature post timeskip, all including Luffy. My point stands.

Yes I know.Luffy should have grown taller and more mature faciaLLY.It has been clearly pionted out that Luffy looks the same as he did pre-ts.His face is exactly the same as it did in the wanted poster.
It would have been great if he had looked like this facially and heightwise

So mature face = cool now?
Luffy's more of a guy who acts cool, instead of just looking cool. And the title of the thread is the MOST disappointing thing in One Piece?
I really don't see how something as simple as this is MOST disappointing.EDIT: I swear, I've already discussed this before.

Mature face=cool
As shallow as that sounds yes its true for all mangas.Matureface, height= cool
And I do find it to be the most disappionting personally right next to the Enies lobby powerups -
Didn't like Goku from DBZ then?

Amazon Lily felt like it had two or three chapters cut out of the middle. Impel Down I didn't have many problems with the pacing itself, but some parts of Marineford felt very sluggish and at times messy. I do hope that the ''big melee'' style used then and during the recent Fishman Island chapters aren't going to be Oda's new standard for arc climaxes.
Heavily agree with that last sentence. I hope this is the very last arc to use it, until the final war. Like, he did the "human" version of a big war in Marineford and had them all brawling, so maybe being the completionist he is, Oda wanted to have a fishmen counterpart to that.

And I do find it to be the most disappionting personally right next to the Enies lobby powerupsI'm repeating myself, but people do not mature drastically in the span of 2 years. Especially when you're 17 going on 19, and have pretty much almost completed puberty.
Luffy's grown slightly taller and has slightly longer hair. And that link you posted was from 16 years ago, when Oda was first getting his own art style established.
Why would he go back to drawing Luffy in his old drawing style, just for the coolness factor? -

Say whaaaat? I dont need more than one acc. If thats true I need to change acc and answer my post in less than 10 sec. And I started reading One PIece Dec 2010 and joined 3 moths later, he joined this forum Jul 2010.

I realize that it might be kinda disappointing that Luffy didn't grow for you guys, but it was pretty disappointing for me too, when I didn't grow AT ALL any between the ages of 17 and 19. Does this have any correlation to the argument? Perhaps, but all I'm saying is that a slight change between those ages is somewhat grounded in reality.
Also, this isn't like the SEVEN year timeskip in DBZ where there was a much more noticeable difference IMO. This is only two years. Not very much happens in two years that involves physical changes besides scars - i.e. the GIANT scar on Luffy's chest.
Idk, I feel like Luffy's fine, tho y'all are entitled to your own opinion: I didn't mean to upset anybody with this, Im just making a case for the short guys in the world xD
-
I'd just like Luffy to be average height like, say, adult Goku. IMO, if a hero is somewhat average looking (and Luffy has a quite generic appearance), then he should be average height and build too. Right now, he is the kid Goku of One Piece, and it seems quite dumb that someone can grow so short with a very tall grandfather and a slightly taller than average father.
-
SInce when 172 cm is considered short? That's my height and nobody has called me ever short.
-
SInce when 172 cm is considered short? That's my height and nobody has called me ever short.
Well, since Luffy is the shortest person in One Piece who is not a kid, a senior (Nyon and Tonjit), a female (e.g. Nami and Tashigi, though most women are still taller than him) or ambiguous race (Saldeath), I'd say that 172 cm is considered very short in the One Piece verse. In most western countries, I guess it's also considered short though not quite as short. I'm 184 cm (about 6 feet), and amongst guys of my age in Denmark, I seem to be in low end of average.
Also, Oda needs to do something about his character heights. Nami is 169 cm - fair enough, that's completely normal for a girl. The problem is she has a very long-legged stature and thus looks like she is much taller. Luffy seems to reach Robin's (188 cm) shoulders when standing up, but realistically he should reach her chin unless she has a very short head and neck. And then there's Luffy himself who has recently been drawn with a typical child body-to-head ratio.
Maybe the messing up of the heights is actually a bigger problem than Luffy being short. -

Lucky. I'm 172 as well but considered "short", although I'd say it's average. Must be that we're from different countries :ninja:

Must be, here there are several people who are 1'80-1'90, but there are way more people who are around 1,60, so i thought my height is normal.
-
Maybe I'm underestimating the difference an inch or two can make when it comes to comparing height as I don't have a side-by-side comparison in front of me, but Luffy's height seems to be pretty close to the average for young adults in most parts of the world barring a few places like the Netherlands or Vietnam.
-
I'd agree with that and don't understand why people are disappointed by his height. Oda is inconsistent with this anyways in his drawings, and it's not like it makes a difference really. Plus, to me, a taller Luffy would seem off somehow. He's fine the way he is.
-
Speaking of which, has it ever been mentioned how much the "kids" of the crew have grown, if they have at all? Well, Chopper's obviously grown, but by how much?
-
They definitely look as though they have, though probably not by much. Someone might ask Oda about it in a future SBS. IIRC that's how we found out last time.
-
I hope that how you grow is different in One Piece world and that even though you are 20 you can all of a sudden grow much taller and bigger, like Roger when he met Rayleigh(He looks like he was around 20 years old) he doesn't look very tall but look at him at the end of his life. Coby is also a good example of how fast you can grow in One Piece world.
Remember this is not a fact I just hope its this way I just want Luffy to look like he's Garps grandson.
-
Well Ace wasn't that tall despite being Roger's son who, as you've just said, was definitely taller as we know him than in Rayleigh's flashback - might be he'd have grown later. Same for Luffy. Giant grandfather, Dragon seems pretty much normal for One Piece males (like Smoker or Crocodile for example..) oh well I don't even know where I'm going with this I guess Luffy will stay as he is. Otherwise he wouldn't be our Luffy.
Although, to be fair, Franky's change was pretty drastic… :ninja: -

People making a big deal out of volume cover 64.

Roger choosing Garp over Rayleigh to take care of his son. I know he had great respect for him, but come one, Rayleigh was his first mate, the person he should trust the most. At first I thought it was because Garp was a marine, so a kid being with him would be safe from the world government, but this is not the case, because the marines knew Dragon was Garp's son, so if Garp was seen with a kid people could suspect that he was his grandson - this is why he had to hide Luffy (and Ace). So why not give the kid to Rayleigh? If Dadan can hide the son of the Pirate King and the son of the most wanted man in the world, so could Rayleigh.
Plus, I didn't like the fact that Rayleigh had no reaction to Ace's death… He was his former captain's kid, he should care about him, don't you think? Also, it has never been hinted that Rayleigh knew Ace was Roger's son, which would mean Roger didn't tell him - again, a big let down, Roger should be able to trust his first mate something like this.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but to point out a thought: What if Rayleigh for whatever reason refused? He wanted to live in retirement peacefully; perhaps raising a kid isn't something he'd feel responsible enough to do.
given his gambling habitsAs for Garp… not the best choice, but Roger felt he could trust him.

Jules–Rayleigh was wanted almost as much as Roger--Garp was a marine. He may have a son who's notorious, but obviously they aren't going to be watching his every move as they would anyone on Roger's crew--not to mention that Garp was the absolute last person the Gov't would think of as the hiding place for ROGER's child. He was Roger's biggest enemy--the man who spent his life chasing Roger--so it was the perfect hiding place. The first place they'd think for Roger to hide a child would be with his first mate, the man one would assume he trusted above all others--just as you did. If he'd given Ace to Ray, he would have placed Ray and Ace in more danger, not less--just by trying to find ray to tell him about the baby he would have done that, never mind after the baby was born and was seen.
As for Garp--Dadan was a relatively unknown small potatoes Mountain bandit who owed a debt to Garp--thus he felt he had some control over her (typical thought pattern for someone who doesn't quite trust the good in people, lol); this status making her less likely to interact with villagers (presumably taking the kids with her if she had), and not enough of a problem for the Gov't to attract their attention, all of which made their hiding place more secret and secure. It worked beautifully, too, in that way. LOL. It just didn't work out that they became marines as he'd hoped.
I think they both did what seemed to them the best, logically, in their own world views, at the time.
