I predict that One Piece is the straw hat that Gold D. Roger gave to Shanks, who passed it to Luffy.
Holy sh*t! That actually came true.

I'm just curious: Anybody remember their predictions that turned out to be totally wrong?
Posted here @ AP: "Oda will never do a time-skip of more than a month."
I'm still thinking that he could have easily avoided the skip, though, with another non-training arc in which Luffy discovers his Haki powers for himself without a teacher, but then the story most likely wouldn't have gotten to Mer-and-Fishfolk Island.
Now I'm waiting for the moment Oda reveals that Sabo survived the Jarmack's strike.
@Milcah:

Well, not really since the One Piece isn't Roger's hat.
It's probably the equivelent of Treasure Planet, I predict.

You mean Treasure Island, right? RIGHT? I mean, I don't know about the rest of you but i've always drawn parallels to the defining book of pirates. But to keep in the tradition of the thread I didn't think that Oda would do a timeskip and up until the train ride I didn't think that anyone would be joining the crew that arc. Those are the only ones I remember that didn't end up being true much MUCH later.
I thought Usopp would have gotten dreadlocks after the TS. Wrong
I was sure Usopp would have found and eaten a Bug-Type Zoan Fruit during the Time-Skip, then be able to do do air-sniping battles in half Zoan form.
@Vash:

That'd be ferking awesome if that happened, srsly.

I was expecting him to have given his weapon a beetle type fruit, since back then (and now) the top kind of looked like a beatle horns
I think it may happen when they visit vega punk still plus the small size of it now makes it easier to believe
Years ago, I thought Dragon might be Nami's father since she could predict weather, and he could manipulate it.
After Ennis lobby,I thought Usopp would turn into a 'dial warrior' and use a bazooka-type weapon like Wiper that was powered by a breath dial so could fire all different types of ammo. And he would put a reject dial in his hammer.I'm glad none of this came true…
And I thought:No way is Garp Luffy's grand-pa.Anyone who thinks is an idiot.Brook wouldn't join and Sengoku has no fighting powers, just a figure head.
Ah,this one is hilarious: when I read that Kizaru captured 500 pirates,I thought that the supernovas were captured, and inwas all like "all well, they were cool, but whatever,we'll never see them again" then they all appeared talking about the war,and inwas like" oh cool, they're alive" then I thought that at least half died during the timeskip, but they're all alive, and powered-up and badass
I thought there was a larger force behind the scenes in Fishman Island, and Hody and Co. would be long defeated, and we'd just be starting with him.
Oh yea, I thought Sengoku would have a monkey Zoan, Pwngoat was a Bo staff that ate a goat fruit, and the hat was just a hat.
I thought Franky's hair would stay that way forever…. Now he needs to push his nose.... sniff
And more recently, I thought he would end at least hallf his sentences with "-robo", but alas
The Usop-Bug Zoan I had been hoping for a while, seeing as the Heracles beetle was such a little gem in Jaya, then another one reappeared on the Boin Archipelago (is that where Usop trained? not sure), plus his weapon, as mentioned above is kinda beetle-like. (I also liked the idea of his weapon getting a Zoan fruit, but the design of half-Usop half-Hercules beetle was too much for my frail mind to not want to be true.
Oh well...
I have way too many of these that I don't remember any of them.
I'm still holding out on Kabuto getting a zoan, but that happening over the TS definitely didn't happen.
I thought Black Beard was gonna untie the shickibukai at the war, and they'd be the ultimate enemy, idk why I just had it set in my mind
Whitebeard had a devil fruit that turned him into light and shoot beams. To go along with being the opposite of Blackbeard.
How interesting that power actually came true, but for a different character :P
I remember a lot of people saying Jimbei would not only be the main villain of Gyojin Island, but also that he would get one-shotted by Luffy
Look how that turned out
I randomly read a from a chapter in Skypeia arc before starting the series.
I thought Wiper was a main character.
Got tricked into thinking that the entire Skypiea arc was filler since I didn't start reading the manga until sometime in Thriller Bark.

Well, Zoro does indirectly mention Enel at the start of Thriller Bark, but well, I don't know you read the arc from the start. They also do mention in the manga shortly after Thriller Bark that getting to Fishman Island is as hard as getting to Skypiea was, though you may have had disproved the rumor at that time.
As for me:
When I started reading the manga, I only read it in Danish for the first 19-20 volumes or so. The only spoilerish thing I knew was that Robin would join the crew after Alabasta. I did not know the circumstances of her joining until volume 24 actually came out in Danish, so when I received volume 23 and read on the backside description that they were finally leaving Alabasta in this volume. I thought Robin would join in this volume, so I skipped to the last few pages before reading it from the start - but no trace of Robin. So I thought she would probably join at a much later point. Guess I was surprised when she appeared in the very first chapter of volume 24.
Also, before the Alabasta arc ended in Denmark, I found a Swedish One Piece site and read the info at it. It said that after Alabasta, the Straw Hats would go to an island in the sky, Skypiea, where they would meet some priests, a sky knight and a god with a lightning Devil Fruit. But it said that before that, we would be introduced to Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Sengoku and a guy named Montblanc Cricket searching for a golden city which would later appear to be in the sky. It didn't mention anything about Jaya, so I thought the Straw Hats would meet these four characters in an epic sea battle. xD I was a little disappointed when they just went to Jaya in volume 24 with no trace of WB, BB, Sengoku and Cricket. However, they appeared in volume 25 so I was contented with the Jaya arc.

At the time I thought they'd slipped that in so then things would be consistent but when I realized it wasn't filler I kinda raged a little at my friend cause I skipped through Skypiea rather fast… still watched some of it butyeah.
When I first started reading, I thought that people like Garp, Whitebeard, Sengoku et al, were all pretty weak 'cos they were old. What a naive fool I was.
I though the Post-TS story was gonna end differently:
I thought for Robin,we'd see her meeting Dragon, like:
???: I've been expecting you…..Nico Robin!
Robin:Fu fu fu,It's a pleasure to meet the father of my captain....Dragon of the Revolutionary Army
-DON-
:ninja:
ANd I'd think we'd see Kaidou recovering, and talking aloud about his confrontation with Shanks.Cause he was playing kinda a big roll behind the scenes at the time: Defeating Moria, wanting to kill Whitebeard and Drake having an interest in him ,which is probably one thing I'm disappointing in:That we didnt see Kaidou before the TS
Wow this thread is ancient.
I forgot what I predicted and got wrong :(

You mean the Pre-Timeskip?
Post-TS was after the timeskip ._.
I thought Perona was a fair candidate for joining the crew.
And I actually thought there was a fair chance that Keimi would join back in Sabaody (no shit). Of course, I knew she would have to get a job onboard and/or learn to fight to not be a hindrance, but I thought she had a quite unique personality and a Straw Hat-esque feel in the way she interacted with the others.
Still today, I'm convinced that if Oda wanted to make her join the crew, he could easily have taken her character in that direction, but given that she barely has had any importance in Fishman Island save the first few chapters, I'm pretty sure she will not join.
Huge bump, but I would really love to hear of what predictions and theories has been hilariously proven wrong.\
One of the most burning ones was Jimbei joining at Fishman Island - Oda really trolled us major when Jimbei had to do something else.

Jinbe has new world experience so it makes sense for him to join after the strawhat's have been in the new world also it gives people more time to accept him joining.

Many people didn't like Brook at first let alone want him to be a Straw Hat, but got used to him over time and he's now a favourite for some.
Luffy is stronger than Jinbe too, there's no doubt about it. He didn't join because of the way the story is going to unfold… Not because he is too experienced for the Straw Hats. Jinbe will aid Luffy against Big Mam and if he survives (:/) he will join the crew.

Looks at Shift

Nami needed help from Buggy and Arlong however she did not really need help from Buggy but needed it for Arlong.
Luffy helped Jinbe on fishman island but Jinbe could have done that himself Jinbe however cannot take Big mom by himself just like how Nami could not take Arlong out without help!

Okay… first off; Jinbe could not have taken on the NFP himself. Sure he could have beaten Hody 1 on 1 but there's no way he would have stopped a 100,000 strong army and the officers aswell.
And yes Jinbe does need Luffy's help to beat Big Mam.
I thought it was already known after Jinbe himself stated, that he can't protect his island or not even his crew with his name… That's why he seeked out Big Mom.
Luffy will clear business for him as he has always done and will show how much Luffy is above Jinbe in fame and strenght.
Oh yeah:
Buggy being the one on Punk Hazard and has caused the separation of Kinemon.
When I was little, I thought that Crocodile was the main antagonist of the entire series and that it would end with his defeat.
I also later thought Jaya and Skypiea were filler.
I thought Luffy would defeat Magellan.
Before getting into the series again (there was a gap of 4 or 5 years), I guess my memory was fucking with me because I thought Mihawk was black and I could have sworn that there was an old lady on Blackbeard's (at the time unnamed) crew.
I thought that Jinbe would be evil because of what Johnny and Yosaku said about his connection to Arlong.
Oh! This is fun:
-Waaay back at Water 7, I was convinced that Paulie would end up as the Strawhat Shipwright. Silly me.
-I was convinced Franky was actually Don Krieg before his reveal
-I was convinced Duval was actually Don Krieg before his reveal
(Heck, where is Gin and Don Krieg?!)
-i also thought duval was don krieg before his reveal.
-i thought dragon would save luffy in the war and that he'd have robin and sanji with him
-i thought arlong would return in the fishman island arc and beat down hody
in fact where is arlong? was he not sent to impel down?
The theories about:
Vergo being Vegapunk (I actually supported this one.)
Vergo being Ao Kiji.
Vergo being Joker.
Vergo being Doflamingo.
and last but not least,
Vergo being Sabo.
Implying Vergo isn't Sabo. :ninja:
I remember when I first read on this forum, it was in the middle of the post-Enies Lobby arc. The arc where the Straw Hats got huge bounties, and they really became known to the world. Lots of people concluded from this: "Now, they are so strong that all that's left is to go to Fishman Island and beat up Jinbe (who'll definitely be the main villain and a super-enhanced form of Arlong) and then go to the New World and finish the series by defeating Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Aokiji and Mihawk". I don't think they will be wrong about all the New World opponents, but the fact people really seemed to think that the Straw Hats were top tier after Enies Lobby. Not my own theory, but I went along with it…
And when I finished Alabasta in the Danish version as a 13-year-old, I genuinely couldn't see how the series would continue for much longer before they found One Piece. You know, Crocodile was a Shichibukai, so he was the strongest of the strongest - the only villains left would be Smoker for Luffy and Mihawk for Zoro because they didn't manage to defeat them yet. And how would Oda be able to think of new interesting opponents? He already used all the cool Devil Fruits and weapons and fighting styles in the Baroque Works arc.
Sometimes it's really not a bad thing to be proved wrong...
I too, thought SH's were NW material back in Eneis Lobby.
I thought the guy who "captured and turned in" fake Kuro was just common fodder (at least in story impact). Turns out he became Axe-Hand Morgan :wassat:
I alonq with a few other people were pretty sure that it was "Caesar Crown" and not "Clown".
**.**That master and Cesar Clown were two different people.
. Cesar Clown was an element that had become sentient due to a version of the human human fruit( I brought this one up, oddly enough there was still a sentient gas in this arc)
. That Sengoku was bronze logia (supported this)
**.**That Caribou was made of glue (supported this with an elaborate long theory)
Early in the Punk Hazard arc, I thought Kinemon's legs and head belonged to two different people. This was because the legs talked about a Shichibukai, and the head talked about being cut by a person he didn't know. I thought, "Well, if he didn't know him, he couldn't have known he was a Shichibukai."
Before the cover of Volume 67 came out, I was very convinced that Monet had blonde hair for some reason.
