Great chapter, cant wait to see more of the casino and all the underworld aspects it contains. And i dont know if this is true but ive been hearing that mangastream no longer translates toriko, could anyone clarify if thats true or not? It would explain why they didnt have the last chapter up
Toriko
-
-
Geez, imagine if all those narcotic ingredients existed in the real world.
Chaos would ensue..Toriko stopping the bullet with his fingers was badass. I wouldn't be surprised if he could catch it with his teeth.
-
Good chapter. Was wondering when Match would show back up; Was kinda hoping Zebra would be around when it happened though, so they could have some kind of closure… but still, should be a good arc with T and K, Coco, Match, and Match's boss (Forget his name). I hope the villain for this arc is Yuu, Jerry Boy, or Sedoru, since we haven't seen them do much of anything that I can recall. Though, at this point, fighting Branch Chefs would be kind of a joke.
-
Has the Toriko anime been released on DVD/Bluray yet? And if so, did it sell well?
-
For the first time ever both Toriko & HxH are out before the big 3. And all thanks to Kewl. gotta love the guy.
-
Glad to see Match is back. Hope Takimaru comes back soon as well :3
-
Kinda disappointed that we didnt get to see Ichiryuu kicking Bishokukai ass. Oh well, it'll have to come up in the story again sooner or later
-
Good post BTW.
I assume that because the gourmet craze didn't start until God was served to the leaders of warring nations, the food quality was just ordinary, as in like our world. Gourmet cells were not discovered before Acacia did, so I don't think Bishokuya, as we can identify, existed. I don't think the term Bishokuya existed, since it is a term specific for the Gourmet Age. However, because humans had developed civilization on the planet before the Gourmet Age, and before Gourmet cells were discovered in the Phantom Jellyfish, they must have either defended themselves from super-powered animals with technology, or such powerful fauna simply did not exist before the Phantom Jellyfish or "God" came into existence. I have a feeling that the author didn't intend to construct a solid evolutionary and geological history for the world he created, but simply intended to portray Acacia as the pioneer of current Gourmet culture.
I'm having a hard time imagining that the Gourmet World beasts did not exist back then. They probably did, and humans defended themselves with their much better military technology than it is today.
Anyhow, the chapter. It was awesome. I love the concept of narcotic ingredients. The Casino was well drawn, too. Can't wait to see what they are going to do there, but going by the preview, Komatsu is going to showcase an astounding talent of his? And I wonder why Match did not greet them. Do you think Shima is going to introduce Ryu now?
-
Just think if 4kids had gotten their grimy hands on this?
Instead of "KNIFE!" we'd have something like "SPORK! and "SPOON!" and the Creme de la creme, "3 HIT NAPKIN PUUUUNNCHHHH"
So, I think on some Level we should be thankful that the censorship hasn't at least pulled a 4kids.Do you dare defy the sporks ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Pretty good chapter.
Btw I always wondered , is "Kingdom" also used as a general expression for a state in Japanese ?
-
Shima's message to the kids with this chapter: "Kids, don't do drugs; join the Yakuza!"
-
The towm reminds me of Atlantic City ^^

zebra does have to capture wanted criminals for amnesty right? perhaps he will show up, yakuza seems like a good place to start
I could see match's boss and the boss of the gourmet knights possibly being IGO'S 0th branch, since they seem like important jobs (and I don't think that the public knows about that branch so hiring a yakuza wouldn't be to non-believable

I am so hyped for this arc, it's unreal. And I agree, that city makes me think of Atlantic City. >3<

Aimaru? I don't think so, if I remember correctly Takimaru spoke with him when he was sick, so he couldn't be in the GW at that time. But I don't know what happened since he's been healed. Match's boss on the other hand might be there because he's on friendly terms with Yosaku.
-
Aimaru seems to be on the same level as Toriko (judging from that mini flashback scene).
-
Looks like the Puncher made it onto adultswim's home page:

Found this in Weekly Shonen Jump #43. I think it might be an ad for the databook coming out soon. No clue though, just thought it would be worth posting.
!
-
If there was something like that Kewl would've told us so i believe, such news can't be ignored that easily.
But yeah let's hope there's something, it'd be nice.
-
Well whatever it is it comes out November 4th, same day as Volume 17.
-
We already know it since two chapters ago (or since last chapter?), I think. It's the databook, called "Gourmet Hunter Book" or whatever. Anyhow, go take a look at the news at the beginning of the previous chapter or the one before.
-
Well Shimabukuro does explain quite alot in the manga itself, so I can't think of anything I really want to have cleared up in the databook.

All i want to know is who uses gourmet cells and who doesn't

True that practically everything is explained in detail, but a bestiary would be pretty useful since there are so many awesome beasts with different behaviors and it's kinda hard to remember everyone of them.
-
The volumes have data on all of them. You can see them here:
http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/71406-Characters-Beast-Ingredients-Data-(DatabookAlthough not everything is translated. The Databook is probably going to collect all these. More details on the Gourmet Cells would be nice.
-
Whenever I get around to scanlating the volumes, I'll translate all those.
I'm focusing on catching up with Gintama right now, though. But I do have someone working on cleaning V1 of Toriko that I scanned.
Mostly those data things are stuff that are more or less obvious or trivial. And when the data book comes out in November I'll look through it for important stuff.

Did they ever explain why creatures in the gourmet world haven't gone into the Human World and slaughtered everyone? Any barriers should be easily passed by them, like how the Nitro have easily come and gone from the Gourmet World. Also, a better explanation of the Heavenly King's origins would be nice… we know they were "chain animals" and were raised by Ichiryu, but was it ever explained what that meant? Were they just weak kids who were slaves and were given Gourmet cells out of pity, or were they actual animals who got Gourmet Cells and became human?
Also, a better clarification on the Jellyfish that the Gourmet Cells were discovered from would be nice. As it stands right now, every time I think of the Gourmet Cell origin, I think of Bioshock and the discovery of ADAM in a certain type of sea slug. It's pretty much the same thing, only the cells are implanted into a host body, rather than it living as a parasitic organism within the body, as in the Bioshock's sea slug's case.
-
They did explain that. There are only a few ways to get from the Human World to the Gourmet World. Either the physical barriers are impassible, or they're all guarded by 0th Biotope members. Like Guemon. A Nitro just occasionally slips in because they're really smart. They said something about that, too.
-
I'm betting it'll be like a One Piece Databook, where like 90% is stuff that's either been revealed already either in the story itself or in the volumes. Still, here's hoping for some interesting things.
-
I'm sure it will have some interesting tidbits we never knew about too, maybe we can get a scanlated version in the future.
-

Like Kewl said, there aren't many ways into Human World, but I thought the manga said at one point Gourmet World creatures don't often come to Human World anyways just because the food is so much better there. I might be wrong, but I'm almost sure that was said in a chapter once.
-

That is what I'd like to know the most about. How they started out would be pretty awesome I'd think. What are their parents like? Do any of them have siblings besides Sunny? When did they all part ways? I never thought of them possibly being animals first, that'd be kinda funny.
-
Maybe they were all orphans taken in by Ichiryu, and Rin and Sunny may not even be related, just traveled together as little kids before Ichiryu found them.
-
As long as I remember correctly, it was stated that the reason why the gourmet world beast won't come to the human world is simply because the ingredient level is much much lower in the latter, and they don't find it tasteful enough (or they simply they can't, at least the weaker ones because I'm assuming the stronger beasts live deeper in the gourmet world). I don't think Toriko and co. were literally animals, but the orphan / abandoned background is possible. We'll find out sooner or later anyways.

Oh hey that's nice, i never read a Toriko volume so i couldn't tell, thanks.
On another note, in this week's episode Match fights a bull and trims his hair.
-
what exactly is all this electromagnetic waves business?
I've sealed the box!! it is now emitting UV rays!!! is there any particular reason that the author keeps bringing up EM waves? apparently anything Coco sees that has EM waves surrounding it is where they need to go next. I don't know about you but I sure as hell wouldn't want to eat food that's been emitting gamma rays
-
It's supposed to be the way to explain Coco's "fortune telling" powers. There's not really any magic in Toriko, so I guess the mangaka wants a pseudo-scientific explanation, kinda like how the gourmet cells are are a biology-based way to explain all the incredible powers the characters have.

Well, Yuu stole the Century Soup to Komatsu using a mini-GT Robo.
And Sedoru fought with Sani using a GT Robo. But we don't know almost anything about Elg y Jerryboy.

Do you remember the Characters Map that I made?
Here is the version 2.0, updated up to chapter 160.http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8664/torikocharactermapbysal.jpg
Changelog:
-Changed Alfaro's title to "Garçon", as Kewl0210 suggested.
-Added Yosaku's nickname, "Blood Stained Yosaku".
-Color pictures of Takimaru, Match y Mansam.
-Added Rei, Defense Bureau Chief.
-Added Rap.
-Added Bishokukai boss name: Midora. Also there is a new picture of him.
-Added Apalon, from G7.
-New picture of Zebra.
-Added Pahpoh: Gourmet Priest, Caretaker of the Main Temple.
-Added Tsurara Mama.
-Added Yocchi (the old man of the chicken tiger).
-Added Bonkochi, Gourmet DJ.
-Added Morita, from Gourmet Magazine "Calorie".
-Added Pen, Gourmet Hairdresser.
-Added Meria, Bar owner.
-Added Ootake, "Otogi Castle" owner Chef.
-Added Niceny, Aid to the executive Chef.
-Added Guemon, Gourmet Gang Leader. His place in the map is random. I didn't wanted to put it with the "others" because is an important character, so I put it in the section of "IGO".Hope you like it. Please let me know if there is a mistake or something is missing.
-
I'd write it "Ray" and not "Rei". And "Apolon" not what you have there. Both are actual names.
And perhaps "0th Biotope Members" would be a good category to have. And seeing as how important they're becoming "Chef" may be a good category, too.
Since there's an "Assistant to the Executive Chef", there also has to be an "Executive Chef" above Kuromado who hasn't appeared yet.
It may also be worth adding those guys mentioned a few chapters ago like "Cooking King Zaus". Possibly "Member of top 100 Ranked Chefs" could be a category. I dunno, depends on what you. You could always do something where people can have more than one outline. So you could add more general categories like "Bishokuya".
You may also want to add the 2 unnamed chefs that felt the voice of that seed. Also you spelled "October" wrong. And "Gourmet" wrong in "Gourmet Hairdresser".
Looks really good. -
so wait, is Kurmado not the executive chef, so there would be two chefs above him in the Bishokukai? or does executive chef the same as head chef
EDIT: Never mind just looked at KEWL's post

Yeah, in the next version I will add more categories. Toriko's world is getting bigger, there are a lot of "Others", what doesn't looks good in the map.
The "Octuber" is a stupid fail xD. It seems that I don't know how to write the months. I studied it years ago and I hardly ever use it.
The "Gorumet" was a typo error. -
I like the character map a lot. You might need to add an animal companion category soon with all those types we've seen popping up.
-
I just caught up with the last few episodes. The Gourmet Stick or whatever it was called, was it in the manga? Or are they just something they added for merchandise sales? I don't remember the thing…

The spice thing that looks like a fist? If you are talking about that, yeah it was on the manga.
-
The Gourmet Spicer was in the Manga, too? I didn't know that. But I mean that thing Toriko bought before leaving to Ice Hell. Looked like chopsticks. I half recall it in the manga, but I might be imagining things.

Huh ?
Where ? -
Huh ?
Where ?Wasn't that given to him before the Regal mammoth arc? >_> Am I confusing a couple of things? lol
Nevermind. Guess it wasn't. Ah well lol.
And I don't know about the sticks. I haven't watched the anime at that point.

Good news for German fans, Toriko will be one of the first 5 series released by Kaze Manga!
N](http://www.facebook.com/notes/kazé-deutschland/neues-manga-label-startet-zur-buchmesse-leipzig-2012/10150409436244703)ot sure if I'll get it, I already have the first 4 volumes in English, so the translation, sound words and art edits will all have to be better (The English cover looks good, so it should look like that..) and the little texts from the author will have to be in, too, to make me switch to this version.
Edit: I just noticed they'll be in a smaller format then the Viz manga :-/ I like Viz's size, but I'm used to the one they'll be using. so it's not that bad.

I hate it when FUNimation takes long putting out new episodes of Toriko…. -__-
