Well excuuuse me for finding your current argument compelling
Bakuman

Whoa! Okay, maybe I'm the only one who hasn't realized this until just now, but I was reading through volume 6 of Bakuman and I was quite surprised to discover that Hibiki (Nanamine's current right-hand man) was also the creator of Phantom Thief Cheater (the knockoff series that tried to copy Trap).
That's just so funny how Ohba would reuse a minor character like that.
-
Hey, nice catch.
Maybe all the other forgotten secondaries aren't so hopeless now for showing up again either.

I was able to realize that too. Maybe just because one day I decided to randomly look at some old Bakuman chapters and the chapters I read involved the ripoff series so when Nanamine's company was revealed I was like "Holy Cow! That guy showed up a year and a half ago!" Yeah I also think it's pretty cool that they brought back such a minor character and made him (sort of) relevant again.
-
Color Page celebratory for the three years of serialization from chapter #147
!
-
Who's the redhead on the left.
-
My best guess would be Miho although i thought she had Black Hair. From the facial espression though i´m sure its Miho.
-
yeah, that's….....strange that they would give Azuki red hair all of a sudden.
-
The randomly change the hair colors on the characters all the time, especially when they're being pushed into the background. Mashiro and Hiramaru ranges from black to brown to blue tint to bright blue with no shading to ziptone pattern, just depends on the image.
-
Whoa, so Nanamine's hair is red? That's actually pretty awesome haha, I always thought it was gray or dark brown.
-
man, so weird
what is HINATA doing in Bakuman?
-
! I'd like to think that characters dye their hair when they're shown with different colored hair on the color pages.
! As for the chapter, Takagi seems to believe that the flaws of the previous scheme are gone. The story won't be aimless and won't go astray. So what will be it's downfall?
! I'm guessing he'll get serialized and even do well for a little bit, but then the company will go bankrupt or lose the staff because Nanamine can't pay them. -

Is that Aoki? lol
-
-
No wonder we don't see her at work often. lol
Anyway, I liked the interaction with all the editors this chapter. It seems like this series is fixing all the problems I had with it before…. like the author heard my inner cries or something. Weird. I was this close to dropping Bakuman.
-
As always, it's nice to see the editors interacting.
As always, Nanamine doesn't know how to keep a good thing going. His hastiness and impatience will come back to bite him in the ass. Again. And soon.
-
I was disappointed by the fact that Nanamine's actual hair color is orange, red looks so much better on him. |:
Good chapter overall, but I still can't help myself but find Mashiro annoying, lol, I understand his feelings, but I'm like "eh". But Eiji's reaction for the battle was quite cool, aswell as Fukuda and Hiramaru's reactions, it was fun to see Aoki in a different state aswell. -
This was a good chapter. Seeing the editors together is always cool, even if Miura's inexperience/stupidity has been exaggerated over time. I liked the stipulation of being in the top 3 with a one-shot. This will be interesting.
-
man, so weird
what is HINATA doing in Bakuman?
Getting more screentime than in the actual Naruto series?
Anyway, good chapter, comments from last week still apply. Nanamine is is own worst enemy. His system worked out most of its flaws… except for his own impatience, greed and ego. He'll be his own downfall again, it looks like.
-
I wonder how long it'll take for him to crash and burn? Personally I think he'll be able to get into the magazine and then there'll be the battle between him and the members of Team Fukuda. But it won't be too long before everything blows up in his face. Can't wait.
-
What was that thing Aoki was wearing on her head? A sweat band? Seriously, I almost didn't recognized her in that panel.
Anywho, good chapter. Felt a little tedious at times, but overall good. At least we have the stage set for a "battle" between Nanamine and Team Fukuda. Will he make the top 3? Hmm, not sure. Would be kind of lame if he was banished from WSJ (unless he's intent on being a jerk forever), but at the same time I still kind of want this arc to wrap up.
-
I was a bit let down by this chapter. We knew they were going to compete, and the only thing we really got out of this were the terms of combat.
-

I think it was one of those blindfold things people use for sleep.
-
this comic makes me quite angry
nanamine basically creates another shonen jump and they hate him and try to pretend that business doesn't matter in their own offices
main duo don't like old mangaka but care about 'true art' because this whole time they've been SO dedicated to the true art of manga, when actually it's mostly just been about rankings and polls a means to an end
basically they're just whores
-
basically they're just whores
Isn't every artist?
Its pretty rare that an artist can make an actual career and moneymaking just drawing or animating or sculpting whatever they want. Every professional artist has to conform to some sort of guideline and what what the audience wants, make certain concessions or do projects they don't want to do for cash.
The difference is, yes, they're using polls to gauge reader reaction and to know if people like their work, but they're also trying to tell the best story they can. Nanamine isn't interested in the story or craft at all, he's JUST interested in the polls, to the point of having a staff of 50 guys helping him out. He's doing all of this purely out of spite, rather than passion, and he's being a total dick about it, who initially hides whatever he's doing in the shadows.
That's where the point of conflict comes in.
If Nanamine was a nice guy actually interested in storytelling and helping out older creators (rather than just using them as guinea pigs and throwing them away) then he'd be absolutely in the right and the story would be screwed because then instead of a hateable villain who is eventually going to collapse the entire scheme under his own ego, they'd have a legitimate real world problem to compete against.

everybody except robert crumb and bill watterson
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
i knew you'd say all that stuff rob, but i already thought about all that and i dont care because this manga is still crap
-
Even Bill Watterson tried doing political cartoons and was fired before he got to do Calvin and Hobbes. And when he ended the strip his final letter to readers said "I am eager to work at a more thoughtful pace, with fewer artistic compromises."
But yes, beyond that, he was able to do nearly anything he wanted, and end C&H on his own terms when he wanted, and never caved in to merchandising. Incredibly minor minority on that one, that almost never happens.
-
goddamn it rob, you gotta pick at everything
-
Well sure, you call artists whores right when I'm working on a project I don't really want to be doing in order to make rent…
-
i didnt call artists whores, i call those two twits whores
maybe you're a whore too, only you can decide that!!!!!
-
I do things I don't particularly like for money that other people want…
Nope. I'm definitely a whore.
-
Does that make your editor your pimp?
-
I'm screen-capping this.
-
You know, I was wondering the same thing, but that sounds about right.
Like pimps, an editor's anger is nearly as terrible to behold as their friendship.
-
but they give you a push in the right direction
-
New hit manga right here.
-
Baku men
-
i do admit, imagining the editor in chief bitch slapping the main characters makes me happy
i guess that makes eiji the bottom bitch
-
@RobbyBevard:
I do things I don't particularly like for money that other people want…
Nope. I'm definitely a whore.
I think all sales dependent jobs turn men into whores
-
Dude, we're all whores. We're all whores of the system, maaaaaan. They're keepin' us down maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.
-
That was a pretty interesting progression, from Bakuman to whores XD.
I don't know if there will ever be a day where Nanamine will finally do things the normal way. He obviously has psychological problems and shit that he has to work out with a therapist. I seriously only see his system blowing up in his face, the plot is going pretty predictably right now ^^;
-
I know this will never happen: but what about Nanamine succeeding at getting PCP down?
I wouldn't mind it THAT much…
at least our dynamic duo could move on to another anime-suitable manga!! And ending the whole Bakuman with not over 250 chapters (since they'd definitely fail with their first anime-suitable serialized manga). -
I would not say it's impossible.
-
I'm actually hoping for that, it'd make things more interesting imo.
-
You guys heard about this yet? (probably have- I dunno)
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2011/09/23/media-blasters-announces-bakuman-dub-cast English cast.
-
Thanks for the link. I've been wondering since the dub's been announced who would voice who, and also how the "Shujin and Saiko" thing would be translated. The few names I recognize from that list are the ones from the old 4Kids dub of One Piece, along with a coupel of others from some other shows. I think Veronica Taylor and Stephanie Sheh can pull off good voices for the girls, especially Sheh, because I've heard her more recently on Haruhi.
Wow, there's someone on that CR page who thinks the dub's gonna be terrible just because Jason Griffith's in it….even though all he'll be doing is voicing a character in a manga that won't even have that many scenes...I didn't even remember who Hayato was until I googled the name and saw he was in the manga first shown to Hattori early on in the series.
-
It's the apocalypse. Mashiro isn't going to be voiced by either Yuri Lowenthal or Johnny Yong Bosch. I was so sure it would be one of those two since they get used for 90% of lead heroes in dubbed anime. Or at least when the lead hero is in a coming of age tale. I actually don't have a problem with dubs like a lot of other people do but I do think I would agree that the same two dozen voice actors get re-used for 90% of roles in anime. But I digress because that'll de-rail the thread and it would be better to start my own thread on the subject instead.
Since I'm here, when're we going to get the new Bakuman chapter? It's Saturday where I am it should be coming soon.
-
148 is finally out.
http://www.mangareader.net/bakuman/148
! Nice to see our heroes are using a different tactic than their usual"we'll ramp up a 5 parter to have a banger conclusion!" Also… re-reading your own series to pick up on plot points and ideas you haven't thought about in a while? Good call.
! Given how meta this series is being at times, I wonder if Miho will randomly show up again in a couple weeks. Or the one creepy manga artist who ended up just hanging out at strip clubs. Or if Eiji will create manga Calvin and Hobbes.
! And also a shame to see that Nanamine hasn't learned his lesson at all about using his own skill or trusting his editor. Even worse then before, when his editor was "the 51rst person", now he's the "221" person.
! But, I can't really root for the editor since he has no spine and isn't arguing the point. Not even bothering to learn his name. -
prays that there isn't 2 or 3 full pages of Hiramaru
Okay, here goes.
[hide]
"You'll spend one month, including the winter holidays making the ULTIMATE INTERESTING stand alone story Shuujin. And I'll spend the nest one month to make the ULTIMATE manuscript."What… the... hell?
These guys making manga or atomic bombs? If I were an editor listening to this, I would not know how to react.
[/hide]EDIT: Finished!
This was an interesting chapter. For some reason, I think this all ties down with recycling, even if it's used unintentionally. I won't be surprised if Oda himself does that.
-
! Nanamine's series sounds like something Fukumoto would write.
