Torchwood is a Welsh teen/adult Series, basically about an team called Torchwood who deal with the strange, alien, or paranormal, fronted by Captain Jack Harkness who is omnisexual and immortal. It's a spin-off of Doctor Who. It started out based in Wales, until the 3rd series where Torchwood fell and things were wrapped up when one of the last members of the original team died.
Let me just stress how 'worth a go' it is - It started out on BBC3. Then went to BBC2, and started attracting names like James Marsters. Then BBC1 produced mini-series Children of Earth, which was some of the best television I've ever seen. (The change through those channels is a significant reflection of its upgrade in quality) NOW? Starz has invested, doubled the budget and Torchwood has put itself out there. Russell T Davies is showrunner, while Jane Espenson is writing a lot of episodes. Other writers include Doris Egan and John Shiban.
Season 4, Torchwood : Miracle Day, which is really a fresh start - encompasses 10, 60 minute episodes, in which one day death just ceases to exist, with a serious view on the consequences, like health systems, law, terrorism, religious reaction etc. Mekhi Phifer is in the new series as well. Bill Pullman plays convicted paedophile Oswald Danes who is sentenced to death but survives. His paralell to Captain Jack will be interesting.
