He was completely black in the cartoon because that's TAS style. Batman TAS he didn't have drawn in muscles like that either. This IS what the suit would look like in something more realistic.
THE GODDAMN BATMAN: Arkham City

That's a good point…
All I'm saying is if Batman showed up wearing this... I would laugh at him.... until he cleaned my clock. :(
I'd kill for a silver age costume though, but given that they're trying to go grim dark for "mature people who like mature things", that's probably not going to happen.

Will this do?
You get it for preordering at Toys R Us, it also comes in the Collector's Edition.
-
Preorder at GameStop and you get the exclusive Batman Beyond skin.
Lol, I'm trying to get hired at GameStop and I already sound like a GameStop tool.
I wasn't even aware GameStop was in the UK. XD
Still. Not a bad price for the game itself.
-
Yeah, I'm confused by that as well. @_@
-
-
Out of the models, I think I like Earth One the most. Even more than the Arkham City one.
-

YES! Hah, it's like they live to spite me.
YEAH!
So… will there be a DLC where I can get everything? :getlost: Maybe I want robin and silver age.
-
Sadly, we'll probably have to wait a year for those to become DLC, and they'll probably charge a pretty penny for them.
-
With this, I'm starting to think the alternat bat-outfits are merely DLC. I still fear that Robin will end up exclusive like the Joker was for PS3 last time.
-
That animated series one looks so weird, considering the whole environment of the game and in comparison to the other Batmans. I understand they're trying to recapture the art style of The Animated Series, but… it's just so off in the context of Arkham City.
Still awesome, though.
-

If he was they would've announced that from the outset.

I agree, I think the animated one looks a little strange as well. And actually, the beefy DKR one doesn't really appeal to me either, though at least it fits within the grim atmosphere of the game.
But man, I'm really digging the Batman Beyond skin. I like the thought of Batman crouching in the dark in that outfit, black on black. Definitely worth a preorder to get my hands on it, though I don't see it listed as a preorder bonus on the US Gamestop website–only the Joker Challenge Map. Has it been confirmed that it's a UK/NZ exclusive only? I looked around a little, but so far I've read conflicted reports about it on the internet.
-
Sadly it seems that the Beyond skin is a Europe exclusive so far.
This post will help you: http://arkhamcity.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3955
It appears the US only gets two (DKR in the Collectors Edition, 70's if you preorder at Toys R Us) while Europe gets three. Past collectors editions have always come with all the retailer exclusive DLC like skins and such, but not for Batman's. That's bullshit, if I'm gonna buy a collectors edition I expect to get everything. They can keep it.
The skins will probably release as paid DLC sometime in the future when we don't care anymore.
-
I'm not familiar with Dark Knight Returns. But boy does he look like's he's been eating all the pies.
I like the Earth Zero one. But none of these really sway me from buying from a particular retailer. I'm going with whoever has the cheapest (probably Toys R Us or Supermarket)
-
Only things I know about the Dark Knight Returns is it's by Frank Miller, the guy behind Sin City, and it features an older Bruce Wayne who has basically become the anti-Batman, running around and shooting people with guns. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If you've seen TAS, there's an episode revolving around three kids and what their individual visions of Batman are, the last one the three was based on DKR. He's suppose to be super bulky, but the skin here just makes him look fat.

Thanks for the link, Buuhan. And indeed, it seems that preordering from MightyApe gets you the Batman Beyond, Animated, and Earth One skins, which is a nice deal if you are partial to costumes (like I am). Don't care about the Animated, but the BB and EO are really nice. Disappointing that we won't have the option to get them here in the States (at least, not yet).

I agree, I don't think the CE is worth it if it doesn't come with all the extra skins–especially at $100. I mean, the cards, statuette, music and so on are great but I think I'll always have a preference for in-game content that I can actually play with, as opposed to collectibles that I'll maybe look at once or twice. What a pity.

Funny thing extra content whether it's in the game(and playable) or DLC has never been enough to keep every gamer invested in a game so of course that's something that's bound to happen regardless.

It kind of defeats the purpose of exclusive retailer DLC if you're going to take all that content and put it in the initial release (even in spite of it being R.E. DLC) which is why it's more ideal to do that with the (Game Of The Year Editions).

I'll let wikipedia take this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_Returns
You really should read Dark Knight Returns, though. It's easily one of the best Batman tales, in my opinion.
But yeah, the character model for him here is really bad. He didn't look nearly that bulky in the comic.
-
I still want 70s Batman but I hope that you can actually change costume IN the game and not just in challenge maps.

Oh yeah, I get that. I wasn't commenting on the validity of the marketing strategy, just noting that for me personally, having all the skins included would have been the extra incentive to have spurred a purchase of the Collector's Edition when I would not have done so normally. But it's a minor issue; I'll just get the DLC when it becomes available to everyone (probably a month or two after the release, I'd guess).
I hope that you can actually change costume IN the game and not just in challenge maps.
That….would be pretty damn sweet. I hope so too.

Seconded for the truth. Although it may not be as awesome as Year One, it comes pretty dang close. It's my personal favorite Batman story of all time.
(DKR related):
! I'll take a 55 year old Batman punching Superman to the ground any day.
-
Wait, you can play as the animated series costume? SWEET! With Kevin Conroy as the voice as Batman, this is perfect! I really hope you can use these suits in game!
-
My reaction to this "Okay, cool" (I believe that this is real).
@Buuhan1:My reaction to this "Haha, oh Buuhan.. always trying to be funny and THAT is some SERIOUS Photoshopping skill." (I thought that Buuhan Photoshopped the Batman Beyond character model (the full pic version), the "Will this do?" didn't help either)
After reading the bottom line of Buuhan's post "You're kidding… right.....?" (I'm still skeptical about this being real, but then I eventually believe it).
@Jack:My reaction to this "YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING, RIGHT!??!!!"
-
Shit, if I was that good a photoshopper I'd be making some serious money.
-
Y'know, looking at the picture of all of them is kind of funny, now. They're all looking at the camera, and then there's the Arkham City one, looking somewhere else into the distance.
That man's serious, I tell ya.
-
… I want those costumes... all of them... there had better be ways to get them here in America...
-

6-12 months after release as paid DLC. But the L.A. Noire and Mortal Kombat exclusives became DLC very quickly, so maybe we won't have to wait that long.

Add yet another reason the Collectors Edition can go fuck itself; Japan is getting the same statue but in color, so much better: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/08/04/japan-gets-a-different-statue-with-batman-arkham-city-collectors-edition/

Dark Knight Returns is an awful story that pretty much screwed Batman up for the next 15 years because everyone tried to make him super grimdark after that.. Like Watchmen, writers of the time took all the wrong lessons from that story and put it into the main universe.
Mostly it stands out historically and gets overhyped because it was in stark contrast tothe campier Adam West material of the time. But a lot of it did not age well.
Catwoman as a hooker, why.
Of course, its sequel was much, much worse and made it a lot worse retroactively.

It's in black and White for a reason.
Look up Batman Black and White statues.
-
It's in black and white cause the cover its based on is in black and white, but that doesn't mean it's better.

Yeah its overrated immensely by comic book buffs as one of the greatest comic work ever, when its really Frank's creepy commentary on the mass media, and cold war with constant talking media heads under the guise of a story of a haunted old man fighting corruption and crime for one last time. There are some important contributions to the Bat mythos in that book like the idea of Bruce Wayne falling into a cave full of Bats as a young boy and some of the writing at the beginning is decent. But really its more overrated than Year One and the Killing Joke ( though Year One was a damn good Gordon story and the Killing Joke had great art) and it nowhere near the level of Watchmen.
@RobbyBevard:
Catwoman as a hooker, why.
Frankie has a tendency of doing that. Look what he did to Wonder Woman in All Star Batman and Robin.
He wants to make things 'edgy'Miller Wonder Woman: ''Out my way sperm bank!''
Ugh.
Of course, its sequel was much, much worse and made it a lot worse retroactively.
Frank Miller was toying around with that thing, its not even a story its Frank Miller playing around.
-
He also reduced Green Lantern to hanging up coats.
And BTW…Batman kidnaps Dick, and he drives away. Then "Meanwhile" Or "12 hours later" (I can't remember) Superman see's Dick's face on a milk carton!?
What!?
And Batman and Grayson are STILL driving home!! -
Why do people want a direct Dark Knight Returns live action film so damn much? With Batman being played by Clint Eastwood?
For the love of god it'd be a complete disaster, with little redeeming factors.
Thank god for the animated film adaption coming out so this will never come to pass.
Part of me thinks Miller is a overrated hack, but part of me still loves Ronin and Sin City.
-

I've never heard anyone say this before, but ya, that'd be a disaster alright.
After seeing all the hate, I should probably go back to reading The Dark Knight Returns. I really liked it, although honestly all that sticks out to me are the fights, like when he fights the
! gang boss the 2nd time around, or when he beats Superman.
Bill, you think Year One is overrated?
-
I'm currently reading The Dark Knight Returns and so far I'm liking it. I'll admit some parts are quite boring (I hated Book One) but everything else has been enjoyable. I agree with Mr. Zoro though, the only things that are really sticking out to me are the fight scenes. I reread four pages of Book Two before I realized I had read them the night before.

Eh, I'm one of those bat-fans that like Batman to exist in his own world and be independent from other heroes(at least in terms of cinema) and I don't really find Bat's going toe- to toe with the man of Steel with a suit all that engaging, kinda bored by it.
I generally find Returns dull, and too entrenched in its commentary on Reagenism, and satire on the mass media to be actually a story of a haunted old man who doesn't have much time left, who decides to make a difference to fix his corrupted city one last time, by again taking on this symbol which was born on the same day that tragedy that happened to him.
Bill, you think Year One is overrated?
Yep. Its a pretty interesting Gordon story, but aside from that nothing too spectacular. It isn't the definitive Batman origin story as imagined by many others, I like the rough moody artwork of Mazzucchelli's it perfectly captures the atmosphere of a hellish urban city without hope. I ADMIRE it greatly, but it doesn't wow me like other Bat-stories and certainly in my book wouldn't rank as the the greatest Batman story ever written. Its a nice Bat-comic rendered in the mold of a 70's cop drama with a nice ending, but its pretty meh generally.
But Selina Kyle and her 12 year old friend as a prostitutes, and sometimes shaky plotting and weird moments like Gordon taking off Flass's clothes and Gordon cheating on his wife while his own wife is PREGNANT is kinda despicable in characterization even if his soul is being poisoned by the venom that is Gotham( and it really leads to nowhere) still come on.
I guess its the definitive Gordon story, but by no means the definitive Batman story.
-

Ah I see. I can agree with the whole "Batman being in his own world", I personally prefer that kind of atmosphere, although it's interesting to see him in contrast to all the other heroes when he's with them.
I'm really interested with the idea of Bats and Sups going toe to toe because I always saw it as a message of you don't need powers to be super. Superman was born with his powers, where as Bruce Wayne's taken the longer road and has trained himself to be the Batman he's become, and that he has a much deeper motive to rid the world of scum than Superman, who does it just because he knows he has powers.
Although I honestly don't read many good Superman comics, so I could be terribly wrong with him not having as much as a motive as Batman.

I'd be interested to hear what you're definitive Batman story is. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but I'm eager to expand my Batman library. The reason I haven't done so already is that I just don't want to end up with generic Batman comics that really go nowhere. I've got the 2 we've just talked about, Hush, Haunted Knight (The scarecrow story is obviously the best of the 3 in there), Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and Arkham Asylum, although Batman's hardly the main focus in that book, but it's still awesome in a category of it's own.

Well I don't have a definitive one, but I do have personal favs
Batman: Blind Justice
Batman Prey( really ambitious story that is suspenseful, prime candidate to inspire the plot for Dark Knight Rises)
Batman Venom
Batman: Blind Justice
Batman Gotham Gashlight.
Batman: Son of Demon
Batman Birth of demon

Does he beat superman? I don't like that idea at all. I only liked when he punched Superman in the face when he told Bruce to stay out of crime fighting after Todd's death.
Batman broke his hand, but he moved Superman's face if I remember correctly.

Reminds of what happened to the "Tea House Massacre" Scene in Kill Bill.

He succumbs to him, buts that's more to do with him cheating (he used Green Arrow with a Kryptonite arrow).

Y'all ready for a surprise? Nolan North is voicing Penguin. I would never have guessed, guy does have range afterall.

Hmm, it seems there will be a big announcement for the game at Gamers Con. Wonder what is left to hype this game by now?
-
An earlier release date?

I hope not, as I get to say Batman: Arkham City comes out on my 21st birthday.
Yes, I'm aware how sad I am.
