@Mr.:
Gonna quote a post from another forum I go to that sums it up perfectly.
That reminds me, I should really get to playing Zach and Wiki again sometime.
There's a term for this. What was it, circular logic ?

It's all disappointing, but given the current amount of "creativity" ol' Capcom has shown us lately (MvC's "story". What's become of RE's "story")… to expect them to revitalize a unique and beloved Role Playing franchise and provide the same amount of depth, charm, and ingenuity as the fans would expect is kinda bogus.
It's a low move of them with the devroom... but I really haven't had high expectations of Capcom for a LOOOONG time now.
Despite it's amazing gameplay.... RE4 IMO was the beginning of the nosedive the series plot was taking. (if you don't want to count Zero). Save the president's daughter? Umbrella bankrupt? Awesome twists guys.....
Expert level writing right here:
Wait, there was a time when Resident Evil's plot wasn't silly?
Capcom has always been pretty shitty in the story department. We played Resident Evil because Resident Evil is good. Though with RE5….
I hate Capcom, but I liked RE5. I know everyone else hates it, but it was fun.
Don't get me wrong, I prefer classic Resident Evil. Yes, I liked walking around like a tank. I liked actually having to worry about my inventory space. I liked having to conserve ammo, planning out what to kill, and actually fighting to SURVIVE! THAT was fun.
Now? It just feels like a zombie shooter. Again, I like RE4 and RE5, but…
I miss the ridiculousness.

Same here, Capcom has been making very poor choices for awhile now so there was no surprise to hear the most recent news. I think stuff like this shows to a degree a broader problem growing in the gaming industry. It seems like people with no history of storytelling or knowledge of a series are being hired to write for companies as evident to me in games like RE5 and Metroid:Other M, you can find better material in fan-fiction. Companies are destroying there own games and I worry for the future of gaming as a whole.
Wait, there was a time when Resident Evil's plot wasn't silly?
Haha, yes actually. There was a time when it's B movie plot (and presentation) actually made sense and had direction.
Warning Rant. Big one
! RE1: the player was introduced to the characters and found out who the badguys were.
RE2-RE3: more characters were introduced with ties to the plot. The umbrella conspiracy deepens. I still remember Leon's statement of conviction at the end of B game: "we're taking down umbrella"! (My teenage self was pumped up!).
RE:code V: Umbrella's past is given more light. Wesker returns and takes the role as shadowy villain. Chris and Claire reunite and kick butt. More depth is given on all fronts. Slowly but surely the story is moving forward.
RE:Spinoffs: nothing happens…. but no one cares (Survivor and Deadly Aim are fucking terrible and an idiot would regard them as true RE games. Nothing big.... but cause of worry).
RE1 remake: just mentioning it cause it rocked.
REZero: Should have been a part 2 remake. The story is altered in shitty prequel fashion.... stuff starts to not make sense or add up. (leaches as a monster is just fucking lame). Concern rises.
..
....
......
....RE4: revision of the series gameplay. To most (sorry old school fanboys), it completely paid off. Amazing gameplay at the sacrifice of actual horror. I dubbed the genre "survival panic", given that situations, while lacking horror, still provided the player with something to be afraid of, near constant danger and overwhelming odds. But something else happened. Within the time the game's intro took place.... the entire RE plot came crashing down.
! "Umbrella went bankrupt"
! ....what? Come again? The symbol and primary antagonist of the series just like that is gone? Chris and Jill and Leon and Claire can breathe a sigh of relief? I flash back to Leon's conviction at the end of part 2. I WANTED TO TAKE DOWN UMBRELLA!! ME! (YES I know some of umbrella's downfall is elaborated on in one of the arcade shooters for the wii.... but fuck that. Too little too late and too lame.) All that build up for such a underwhelming conclusion. So what are we doing this time?
! "Save the President's daughter"
! Sigh.... That's the best you can come up with?
! RE5: Chris bullshits around africa with a partner who by all rights should have been Jill. And Wesker's shadowy, secret, agenda is brought to light as he takes center stage as the villain.... and what could it be????
! ....WORLD DOMINATION/DESTRUCTION!!!
! Great.... so the one aspect about the series that still intrigued me has been unceremoniously transformed into a James Bond villain (complete with badguy monologue's and the inability to kill the protagonist when he totally has the chance.... multiple times).
! Creativity indeed.
! And now.... the story is just being brought back to fucking raccoon city instead of laid to fucking rest.
! Next resident evil plot hook: Ryu and Chun-li must venture into space to take out a forgotten space station that was an old test site for.... dun dun dun... umbrella!!! There they find answers to the secrets of the dark hadou and old friends and new enemies.
! ???: well well well... if it isn't the wandering warrior...
Ryu: [ready's hadoken] Who's there?
Chun li: I can't believe it…. you're alive?
Wesker: that's right!!! I may have been waist deep in a volcano, but Chrrrris's rocket's launched my body right to this very space station. I've also learned the secrets of the Dark Hadou from Akuma!!! Who's really an alien!!
Chun Li: ??????!!!!! It can't be!!! And what have you done with Cammy!?
Wesker: You'll find she has been... well taken care of. [tank behind him opens to reveal Cammy with short brown hair]
Chun Li: Cammy my love!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!
Ryu: you fiend, my long lost brother Chris Redfield warned me about you!… I'll finish you off once and for all!
Wesker: Don't be hasty... first you need to purchase the DLC mission!!!!
Ryu: !!!!!!!!!!!
Capcom: Coming soon! Download Dante as a character in the new... ummmm.... fuck it. MvC4 coming soon (secret: it's ALL SHOTOS!!! And exclusive character Nathan hale from Resistance if you purchase the ps3 edition). Suck our genius cocks!
! And FUCK MEGAMAN!!!!! BITCHES!!!!
I know boycotting doesn't really do any good, but yeah, I'm not buying a Capcom game new until they release Megaman Legends 3. Won't really big much skin off my back as I don't have a single current gen game by Capcom, I generally buy used, and any PSN releases I get via gameshare.
Haha, yes actually. There was a time when it's B movie plot (and presentation) actually made sense and had direction.
I'll give you Resi 1-3, but…
So basically the general agreement is Capcom was great 13 years ago, but they've mostly done crap since then?
You'd think they were in charge of Sonic.
I'll give you Resi 1-3, but…
Voice acting doesn't count…. but dayum!
I forgot how stupid the Ashford's were.

Yeah, nothing wrong with buying used games, Capcom wont see any of yer money. Unless you have any issues with feeding another big ugly company (gamestop) more profit.
me on the other hand, I own MANY capcom games. With Rockstar in second place for most from one company I own. Time will tell for me.
Because they can still sell ports and remakes of remakes of the classic games.
Which is weird since they have yet to put out sequels to Maverick Hunter X or Powered Up but I guess there's a legit reason for that like why they won't put out DarkStalkers 4.
Loved the SHIT out of the ZX series. The art was NICE, the story was going somewhere really interesting (HOLY SHIT THOMAS), and the gameplay itself was pretty much a version of Zero that didn't penalize you for screwing around with the powers and having fun.
…and then they cancelled the series.
Ryuusei no Rockman was pretty good, and finally moving in a direction where the gameplay was starting to match the story...
...and then they cancelled the series.
And with Dash 3 cancelled now, what the fuck does Capcom even have left? Gyakuten Keiji?
Ugh.

Actually Gyakuten Saiban 5 which is in development hell.

Oh come on, Sonic Colors wasn't that bad. And Sonic 4… well, it was decent, not awful.
Sonic games don't have to be 2D to be good, but I would love a Genesis-like game as much as the next guy. I'm still hyped for Generations.

The diffrence is, in the last ten years, Sega doesn't hype things up, and then cancel them.
Didn't Mega Man X 7 suffer the same problem as Sonic 06, or at least, the mega man fanbase holds it in the same regard
^ Well to be fair some X fanboys tend to ignore anything that came after X5.
^ Well to be fair some X fanboys tend to ignore anything that came after X5.
Well, X7 was meant to celebrate the franchise's 15th anniversery, and was a critical failure.
Same for Sonic 06. Right down to the 15th anniversery.

They've still got Shu Takumi churning out great games (phoenix wright, ghost trick). And their beat'em'ups are still amazing technically, it's just crapcom want you to pay through the nose for what amounts to bolt ons. But they've tried to screw the second hand market with resi mercs, screwed up with the resi franchise as a whole in the wake of RE4, Inafune's left so megaman may never be the same again, handed DMC duties over to a third rate developer, ignored BOF and haven't even bothered localising Ace Attorney Investigations 2.
So they've started down segas road to ignominy at least.
It's not just Capcom, really.
The game industry in general can go fuck itself.
@Holy:

I agree. It's why i only follow creators instead of franchises and companys.
Fuck them and their baiting with character polls and shit, fuck yourselves capcom.

Hey now, Platinum Games and Grasshopper Manufacture are still doing good shit. Platinum Games is made up of ex-Capcom employees, and now Capcom wishes they were Platinum Games. For non-Japanese developers… there's Naughty Dog and... hm... anyone?
Capcom forgot Rival Schools and Darkstalkers. That much makes me hate them.
Also, I still fondly remember the psx versions of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Darkstalkers 3 and Rival Schools; those games were filled up to the top with stuff to do, unlock, lots of different modes and whatnot (Including the best story mode ever in JJBA, and the godly World Tour for SFA3, which ammounted to literaly hours of fun).
Now? while I really like SSF4, arcade mode and challenge mode as a single player experience is fucking disapointing, no to talk about their DLC policy. I know alternate costumes are not crucial to the game, but for fuck's sake, as someone else already said, in Tekken 6 you can create your characters appearance almost to your hearts content, and here you are paying money for. . .extra costumes. Great.
I hate to say it cause I was such a Capcom fan, but I'm losing faith in these guys. And I'm not even a Megaman fan, thankfully, but well, I'm a Shenmue fan, and I know what's being left in the cold, completely ignored, for more than a DECADE. With no hope for the future. And it fucking SUCKS.
So, yeah. FUCK YOU Capcom!
Hey now, Platinum Games and Grasshopper Manufacture are still doing good shit. Platinum Games is made up of ex-Capcom employees, and now Capcom wishes they were Platinum Games. For non-Japanese developers… there's Naughty Dog and... hm... anyone?
There's Bioware, Bethesda, Next Level Games, Retro Studios, Insomniac, Silicon Knights and Sucker Punch.
^This.
So many brain-dead idiots that have internet access…..
There's Bioware, Bethesda, Next Level Games, Retro Studios, Insomniac, Silicon Knights and Sucker Punch.
Bioware seems to have become EA's bitch, Silicon Knights last couple of games have been stinkers, have they not? And Sucker Punch… I just don't like inFAMOUS all that much, I played and beat the first, didn't care for it, and I'm playing the second and... it is the same damn thing.
What about the Sly Cooper trilogy?
Bioware may be EA's bitch but they still manage to produce a damn good product.
Silicon Knights, they've only released one game this generation. As soon as Dennis Dyack pulls his head out of his ass I'm sure they'll return the same quality they were when they made Eternal Darkness.
Good games. But the last one came out 6 years ago.
They're making a new one set to come out in 2012 on the PS3. It looks interesting so far. If it still has the same feel and vibe as the first three, then it definitely won't be a disappointment.
i'll read through this thread later. for now all i gotta say is " Capcom; you used to be cool. what happened to you" give megaman back to inafune where he belongs. you obviously don't care anymore. Your like a crack mama who's too doped up to care about their kid. WHERE'S child services! looks around

Do not forget Atlus. They fucking rule.
Atlus RPGs are honestly the only ones I give a shit about anymore. And even those are hit or miss.
I tend to follow creators instead of companies nowadays. Shinji Mikami, Suda 51, Tim Schafer, etc.
Though creators themselves are kind of a dying breed in an era where design by committee is the only way most games are published, which isn't a bad thing necessarily. I just doubt we're going to see guys like Hideo Kojima or Inafune who under normal conditions have such strong creative control in the future if things continue the way they are. I'd imagine we're going to see a lot of companies just end up destroying their own fanbases.
That said, Capcom seems to be ahead of the pack in going out of their way to destroy their own fanbase. I'm almost inclined to say it might be intentional but for what reasons I'll never know.
Valve, dudes. They're pretty cool. DICE are a good one, too
Capcom forgot Rival Schools and Darkstalkers.
None of the DarkStalkers game were on Capcom's best seller list so them forgetting about it is more to blame on people being too preoccupied with the Street Fighter & the Vs series.
Now? while I really like SSF4, arcade mode and challenge mode as a single player experience is fucking disapointing, no to talk about their DLC policy. How dare they [shakes fist].

No, they're not. That's Sanzaru Games, the developer that did the Sly Collection. Sucker Punch isn't involved beyond offering advice.

…and? I never even heard of that guy beyond his name in the credits for SotDMND (which was fantastic). Shinji Mikami and Suda51 were the forces behind that game and the forces behind Grasshopper.

Valve
GSC
Bioware
Frictional Games
Dice
Rockstar
Bethesda
And numerous other smaller publishers.

Damn, that sucks. Here's hoping that the quality of the game isn't heavily affected.
Looking at this thread, this was the last straw for all of you lol, maybe now they can slowly begin to fail and fade away like they should have a long time ago.

They've already done that.
Reminds me that Sega also sucks for delaying Shenmue 3.

I'm fine with that, afterall we got the Yakuza series now.
I'm fine with that, afterall we got the Yakuza series now.
Yakuza is awesome. But Shenmue needs its own conclusion.
@RobbyBevard:
Not gonna happen. They haven't done a Breath of Fire game in HOW long? Its been 11 years since BoF4 on the PLAYSTATION…. And Dragon Quarter which came a short time after that, was... not a Breath of Fire game.
Its also a dead franchise. Which sucks, because I really enjoyed it. Part 2 especially.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
oh yah. As a mod I probably shouldn't be letting a thread with the title "FUCK" running around. I don't really care and neither do the sub mods that have already been here, and no one seems offended so far, and Capcom deserves it, but it IS an all ages board. And this thread might be around for a while.
SO.
Any other colorful euphemisms that can be used instead? We can make a game of it. Best insult/exclamation of hate gets to be thread title.
Capcom is a skank hoar alpha bitch.
or Canceling Anticipated Products Canceling Our Memories : CAPCOM…........I'm still working on that one. anyone got any suggestions
