Preloading this now for the trial. Awesome. Shame I missed out on the lowest price ever for this game, but ah well.

Nobody can deny that, measured solely by their ability to blow people into chunky clouds of tomato soup, rockets are an incredible force for good in the world. But with their wide blast radius, they are not a particularly terrific weapon for showing off your sharpshooting skills.
Until now. A high precision version of the standard-issue rocket launcher, the Direct Hit has been engineered from the ground up for Soldiers who have mastered the art of shooting at their targets instead of vaguely near them. Those of you looking to deal splash damage, stop reading now: the Direct Hit has a 70% smaller blast radius than a traditional rocket launcher. But the rockets that come out of this thing move fast and hit hard: 80% faster and with 25% more destructive force. Best of all, for you real sharpshooters, the Direct Hit guarantees mini-crits on airborne targets.

Did anyone else read the new comic? I'm convinced the Soldier is the official "Deadpool" of TF2 now.
-
I don't play TF2 and I never will, because of the fact that Valve's games are too goddamn influental, that it makes me sick to my stomach. Honestly, I don't find this game bad at all, in fact I'm a huge fan of the Half-Life franchise and I played a lot of Counter-Strike/Counter-Strike:Source in the past, so I can't say that I hate the company either. But why must there always be some uneducated cad stinking up the place with lame-ass catch phrases they heard in the game. Not to mention that a high percentage of YouTube's crappiness comes exactly from boring, "YTP" TF2 videos that everyone's uploading nowadays. Extremely bad.

The remaining weapons have been revealed (aside from the mystery weapon that goes to the winner, of course).
Demoman
THE SCOTTISH RESISTANCE
Get your thinking pants on, because the Scottish Resistance is the thinking Demoman's sticky bomb launcher. Trading offensive capability for increased defensive power, the SR can lay down twice as many sticky bombs, as well as destroy enemy sticky bombs. But hold on, thinking fans—there’s more! The SR lets you detonate specific groups of bombs instead of having to set them off all at once. The SR detonates whichever group of bombs the player is looking at, letting you control which clusters blow, and when. You’ll be able to lay more traps and guard multiple areas at a time.
But all this awesome thinking man stuff comes at a price, just like real thinking. The SR is less useful for air-bursts and close range combat, thanks to longer priming rate (0.4 seconds) per bomb.
Soldier
THE EQUALIZER
Back when your father and grandfather played Team Fortress 2, being bad at the game was so shameful, they would rage-quit (a lengthy, painful process that involved pulling burning coal from the computer’s furnace). Now, thanks to modern-day updates like these, there’s finally a good excuse. You didn’t misread that sentence: losing is now a strategy. This melee-slot pickaxe becomes more deadly the more damage you take, letting you move faster and hit harder the more wounds you endure. Get close enough to death, and you will become Death himself.
Note: Pretty much any time we reveal a new weapon, somebody on the forums claims they thought of it first. But this time, assuming it’s Tom Francis and jibberish, they are absolutely correct. As a special thanks to them for doing our work for us, they'll each be getting a unique version of the Equalizer of their very own.
THE BUFF BANNER
Admit it: Every so often, you suspect you’re carrying your team. But other than rage-quitting, what can you do about it? How about motivating those lazy sons of bitches to put on their war face and fight?Enter the morale-boosting Buff Banner. When this secondary-slot item is equipped, any damage you deal boosts a rage meter that, when full, lets you pull out your bugle and sound a call to war! For the next 14 seconds, every teammate who rallies round your flag will deal mini-crits.
Also, the class achievements can be seen here:

Hate to tell you this, but this happens with EVERYTHING that pops up on the internet. It's unavoidable. Either way, if you find the right servers, you won't deal with idiots like that. The server I'm on is fan-freakin'-tastic for playing and having a good time while cracking some laughs with some good folks.
On the subject of the war, it looks like Soldier has now officially won. War is now considered over.

Dead Soldiers: 6,298,465 -
I got this game on Xbox a little while back. It's fantastic and it's the only game I play. I wish I could play it on PC and try the Huntsman.
Gamertag: DaKid Dynamite5 (You'll know me from the headshots and excessive calls for medics)
I play Sniper, Scout and Spy. I also play a little Pyro and Heavy if I need to. I despise Demomen.
Everyone knows the Demoman's main weakness is close combat right?
WRONG.
Now you no longer need to worry about those pesky Scouts or Spies that sneak up on you ever again with the brand new Eyelander. Cut them down to size by lopping their whole head off. That's right, the whole head. Let's see those smug dandies faces when they realise they're now 1/6th less of a man than they once were.
Now being a cursed sword, naturally there are some drawbacks. Health draining ones usually. You'll have less health, but for every successful decapitation get a health boost AND a speed boost. That's all very good for classes I can get close to(like the Spy), but what about one's you can't? Pyro's are sneaky ambushing types right? Always airblasting your stickies and lighting you up like a christmas tree. Not a problem. Everyone's favourite black scottish cyclops now comes with a shield that weakens fire attacks, made out of wood. OUT OF WOOD. That's right, the Chargin Targe is a fire resistant wooden shield.
Not only does it make a nice ensemble when used in conjuction with the Eyelander, but it also allows you to charge forwards at crazy speeds like a battering ram making the Demo Man briefly faster than the scout. You read this correct. Faster than Scout. Imagine hitting someone with a SWORD at that speed. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?DESPISE.
I don't play TF2 and I never will, because of the fact that Valve's games are too goddamn influental, that it makes me sick to my stomach. Shut up.

Demoman Quotes: Really repetitive (Edit: Though he still has some great lines here and there.)
Soldier Quotes:WIN WIN WIN -
Someone dug around in the files and found a "Fireproof Suit" and the stats for what is the Engineer's PDQ (Pretty Damn Quick).

Has anyone else mastered the art of playing this game with a touchpad?
Also, how does one equip melee weapons?
-
What do you mean equip? They should already be with you so you just switch to them.
-
Has anyone else mastered the art of playing this game with a touchpad?
Also, how does one equip melee weapons?
Nope. I use the good ol' keyboard/mouse combo. :P
As for Melee weapons, they're your third equip weapon.
-
I cycle through the weapons but the melee is always shaded, and I end up going back to my first weapon.
As I said, in most of my games I end up getting killed in close comabt when someone switches to melee (head shot?), I've only managed to do damage as a Sniper and while hidden.
-
So what do you think of the Soilder's prize for this war against an overpowered enemy?
Lol, some fucking boots.
-
The boots were gonna be rewarded to either class that won since both use their weapons to long jump.
-
I can't figure out how to long jump. I manage to go about 10 feet but I see people all the time that jump all the way across the level.
-
OK, silly question: Is this game available on the PS3?
-
You can buy the Orange Box for the PS3, yes. I've heard that it wasn't very good for the PS3 though, so I wouldn't recommend it. Full of problems and stuff. If you're going to get it for a console I'd suggest the 360 but overall I'd say get it for the PC.
-
you'd be dumb to get it for a console - no updates
-
That too .
-
@Kairouseki:
I can't figure out how to long jump. I manage to go about 10 feet but I see people all the time that jump all the way across the level.
Believe it or not, I had the game since the release and had no idea about the longer jumping ability for Soldier and Demoman until their update.
The idea is that just as you get ready to launch yourself, instead of just jumping as you use the blast, you crouch AND jump at the same time.
OK, silly question: Is this game available on the PS3?
To be a bit more detailed, it's available on the PS3 and 360, however they're not worth it. The PS3 version was handled by EA and is more or less a shoddy port. That version has framerate and connection issues and will never be updated, as it was disliked by the developer for how it turned out on the console.
The 360 version received a couple of server updates, but mainly to fix rampant cheating. Other than that, it's still the same version from 2007 without any of the updates that have made it to the PC version. While Valve did say they will update it once the final class update is done, it's still a good while away and Microsoft wants to charge people for the update when it's completely free on PC.
-
@The:
you'd be dumb to get it for a console - no updates
Really? Well I've been considering getting for PC anyway
-
As someone who owns the 360 and PC versions, I can safely say that the PC version is much, much better.
With the console ports, servers are hosted by one person. They go, the server drops. Whereas on PC, you don't need to rely on a host. You also cannot use voice commands in the console ports except to call a Medic. So you can't signal when there's a Spy nearby. The controller is also really not meant for TF2, regardless of the version you play on. It ends up leaving you feeling crab handed.
-

Except, the Demoman won the war - more Soldiers were killed overall. But for some reason Valve awarded the boots to the Soldier anyway.
I haven't played with Demoman much, nor encountered them much, so I can't really comment if they're overpowered or not, but I get killed pretty often enough as the Soldier and the Soldier's build is like the offensive version of the Demoman's.
-
Actually, Soldier won.
6,406,065 Demomen killed
6,372,979 Soldiers killedThe top is the kill count for Soldiers having killed Demomen and the bottom is vice-versa. The only issue was that both sides cheated quite a bit on achievement servers and bots.

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4886/hl22009121412585630.pngLooking there, you'll see a pit full of Soldier bots and players, while several Demomen launch everything inside to kill them. They ended up double checking after the update when looking at the kill counts and times.

I actually don't think the Demoman's overpowered as I'm killed quite often when playing as him. Might just be me sucking though . I want to play with the sword but I can't ever get it in a random drop and I'm having difficulty getting some of the achievements.
I do something that might be able to be called a long jump but I don't think I'm doing it right as it always takes down about half my health when I do it :ermm: .
-
That's hilarious, Tsukento. Gathering all the Soldiers into a pit and shooting them. :O
@Kairouseki:
Might just be me sucking though .
The only classes I can play as are Sniper and Engineer simply because I'm playing off of a laptop with no mouse, just a touchpad. That makes it impossible to do anything that requires aim, although I can still run places…while looking down. :/
-
To do achievements justy go on a bot server…
-
OK guys, I need so tech support.
I'm running TF2 on my desktop, but the game closes mysteriously after playing the Valve logo. It's in Windowed mode apparently, not full screen. Nothing I do seems to have any effect.
-
OH YEAH I FINALLY GOT THIS WORKIN'.
So, anyone up for a game?? I'm looking for a teacher. :O
-
TRIPLE POST WE NEED MORE ACTIVITY.
I've actually gotten to get a feel of the game but I've got to agree with Cyanotic's reasoning on the upgrades - they're just there to make things easier for the newbies, and are fairly unbalanced in that regard, but it also makes things difficult to accumulate experience with the original balanced weapons.
Honestly, it feels like I'm playing some hybrid of StarCraft and Brood War, with both balanced aspects and unbalanced aspects running rampant.
My favourite class is the Sniper, because I'm not used to mouse aiming sensitivity and the whole "you jump where you look" hand-eye coordination. If someone has suggestions for how to practice this kind of aiming, I'm all ears, because I desperately need practice.
I can also see how it makes Buuhan1 dizzy.
-
Having been stuck with a Mac and the oh so limited version on the Orange Box for the Xbox 360, I haven't had access to the bulk of the game. That should change soon, though, once Steam, and TF2 according to the website, is available for Mac this month .
-
So, any good servers? All I get is "server not resonding".
-
My computer used to be able to run this game fine, but now I go in and everything's choppy. ;-;
-
So, any good servers? All I get is "server not resonding".
That appears to happen if a server is full. Keep trying for one.

I was writing up a massively long, nicely balanced explanation of each unlockable weapon including their pros and cons. It took several hours. Then Firefox crashed. So many hours wasted.
So I'll just say this: They're not really upgrades, but moreso unlockables. Each weapon has its strengths and weaknesses. Some more so than others in either aspect. Some are even only useful in situational events. Currently, every weapon's been pretty much tweeked to be balanced just the right amount.
Could be worse, though. Could go back to the start where Demomen had a LARGE amount of Sticky Bombs at their disposal, Pyros couldn't Airblast, Spy couldn't pick up ammo to recharge his watch but could also backstab from within any angle.
So, any good servers? All I get is "server not resonding".
I play on a set of servers run by a group known as "I Have CnB" (Cock and Balls). It's mainly for older folks cause of the NSFW material that flies around in there, but it's got some great people to play with, and you'll find yourself laughing every now and then with the server sounds installed and just how some of the people are.
The IPs for their servers can be found here: http://dirty.hlstatsx.com/hlstats.php
-
I love this game. I have it on my PC and I mostly play as a scout and a pyro. I pretty much unlocked all the achievements except for the engineer one which didn't come out yet as far as i know, I haven't played it in like 1 month.

Was released for the Mac yesterday. Very cool trailer. The game is also free to play over the weekend and after that will be %50 off.
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Downloading now, finally!
-
So I can own people with crappy computers now? They should have a way to differentiate between Windows and Mac players.

Actually, it's also 50% during the free weekend. So you can play it for free, and if you like it enough, buy it before the free play is up.
@Kairouseki:

Mac users get iPod earbuds as a Misc. slot item. Though really, anyone can get them if they log in through a Mac.
-
Steam tag's Hungryfreak by the way if you guys want to own me some time.
-
The hideous menu UI seems to be the tradeoff for the influx of clueless Mac players into the game. One I don't appreciate, especially since Valve is handing them ways to rapidly improve with the training option.
I don't understand the firestorm over the earbuds, honestly. I'm not a Mac fan and certainly wouldn't want to show off a Mac product like that.
-
The UI is indeed atrocious. I seriously hope Valve goes with the fan-made suggestions.
As for the earbuds, don't worry. This is the second time this has happened. These are the same people that fired off a massive shitstorm over people who got their Cheater's Lament halos for not getting caught using a 3rd party program while idling.
-
I've heard of the fan-made UI's and frankly I don't approve of them either, the original is true to FPS formula - simple, functional. The flashy buttons and haphazard juxtaposition is a "Web 2.0" phenomenon, catering to people who want an "immersive" computer experience. Browsing a menu. wtf?
Valve could have just gave that menu to Mac users only and nothing would have changed. Mac users wouldn't have known any better, PC users wouldn't have cared. The menu looks appropriate for Mac people. Why give it to PC users - is it just to piss us off to seek & destroy Mac users in game? :/
That said, I've been having problems even getting past this menu, for some reason my computer is crashing whenever I select an option. I haven't been able to play the game since the 10 June patch.
…
omg I just noticed the Engineer's new shotgun has a scope. SICK, please let it be usable. Please let Direct Hit's be usable too. :<
-
Honestly, if it looked like this, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
The UI currently looks awful because everything is so terribly scrunched up together. Even worse when in 16:9 because you get even LESS room.
-
Anyone up for a game? I main Pyro and Medic, but I'm a decent Sniper as well.
PM me if you want my Steam.
-
Going by some videos, it looks like Valve has decided what will be in the Engineer update.
Engineer is holding a new shotgun - http://www.teamfortress.com/macupdate/
In the backgrounds, there are blueprints of an arm, along with a robotic head on the shelf (possibility of a moving sentry? At the very least, some kind of robot) - http://www.teamfortress.com/119/comingsoon.html -
TF2 is probably my favorite game right now. Been playing for a year or so. Having played Team Fortress Classic, I was excited when this game came out. I mostly play Spy, Scout and Engineer. Haven't played in a few weeks but I'm craving it still. I think the last map I played was a Prop Hunt map. That game is surprisingly hard…
