Chapter is out
Mangastream: http://www.mangastream.com/read/one_piece/88732753/1
Going to read. Who will find Pandaman first!?
Edit: Couldn't find Pandaman but I've found Camie and Pappag here => http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/88732753/9
Pandaman is easy.
Now to find Camie and Pappug - that's a real task.
Nice chapter, felt kind of short but nice.
first page yay!..off to read
Can't wait…getting no sleep has it's benefits.
EDIT:
sniffsniff wonderful chapter.
chapter allready out . so fast .
So, it's technically Shirahoshi that will destroy the island it seems. What's Luffy gonna do to send her into such a fit? Or will she do it willingly?
Great Chapter!! Thanks!
We have a new prophecie on our hands.
So Luffy is the Shirahoshi's guide of prophecy.
It's getting harder and harder to argue that this flashback is about and for Jimbe.
Great storytelling by Oda. This chapter had something special.
Real nice chapter, but…..where's Neptune ?
Out already?! Wow… Off to read!
Edit: New here, btw. Have been following the forum for about half a year, but did not want to join yet - promised myself I would after finishing final exams, which I did now... So I am here.
@Marty.:
It's getting harder and harder to argue that this flashback is about and for Jimbe.
Like i said before, this flashback is similar in format to Franky's. Reread chapter 354. That chapter is hardly about Franky himself either. But it is his story, and an important part of his development. Much like this is Jinbe's story as well, and there's no reason it couldn't potentially be a large part of his development too.
@No:

At the palace.
Now there's a decent reason to discuss the princess' potential as a crewmate.

jimbei is like the least important person in this.
the queen, the princess, the princes, the king, fisher tiger, vander decken are all way more important.
hell arlong probably is too. i'm putting jimbei in the class with aladdin's importance
he just kind of is there and see's stuff happen. he isn't really ever a factor, just a bystandered.
Oh, no, not ANOTHER prophecy!! I just hope, it doesnt refer to luffy, because I really hate this child-of-destiny-theme in shounen mangas.
Appears too, in the Page 9 the Nami that Luffy draws with a fish body!!
LOL

this page is epic. 2 princes dancing while crying. damn Oda!
Damn that happened so quickly pool queen and yes shirahoshi isn't a haki user.

well, looks like a rifle to me
Why didn't they send some guards after him ?
I mean, realy ?
I'm glad the silly theory that it was Aladdin who shot Otohime from the spoiler topic is already cleared up.
Great chapter. I almost cried at Otohime's death.
Oh, no, not ANOTHER prophecy!! I just hope, it doesnt refer to luffy, because I really hate this child-of-destiny-theme in shounen mangas.
The way i like to reconcile with that theme is to think about it as Luffy not being who he is because of destiny, but destiny being what it is because of Luffy. If you know what i'm saying.

Erm, did you miss the part where the guard is shooting at him?
because I really hate this child-of-destiny-theme in shounen mangas.
Same here.
(disgusting 16 chars, i'm so tired of it)

I kept my eyes dry until the last page, then the three princes and Otohime doing the pinkie thing with her children for the last time… sniff bloody hell Oda, you made me cry!

For touching Shirahoshi.
But they somehow never suspected a guy with a gun might be responsible for the shooting.
:cwy: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.And hohoho who is that world noble.
Baratie's dessert place is underwater? so cool. And lol at VDD at the end.
Oh god I almost cried.
Best chapter in this arc so far!
I knew there was a reason for those two princes to be goofing around!
@No:
For touching Shirahoshi.
But they somehow never suspected a guy with a gun might be responsible for the shooting.
And it's very unlikely that VDD is responsible. This operation of setting fire to the signatures and then making use of the confusion has WG written all over it in my opinion. It just goes beyond sideshow characters like VDD.

You got that all from one panel?
Really nice chapter, I liked it a lot. General thoughts:
That was so sad ;__; The princes made me even sadder when they had to act silly to stop Shirahoshi from crying, while they were crying themselves…
-The Casket of who-what?
I don't see where Oda is going with this.
-Van Deckem is nearly not as much of a creepo as I thought he was.
-I still can't believe she got a deal from the Tenryuubito, there must be a catch.
-She's sweating, there's def a catch.
-So many signatures :V
-Oh boy, she's about to cry, what the heck is gonna happen?
-Oh wait, those were tears of joy, derp. I thought we were about to have the "Tenryuubito are evil" twist already, guess not.
-I still stand by my prediction that this is somehow related to CoC.
-Alright, Shirahoshi is gonna be the new crewmate. Disappointing.
-That silloute looks a lot like Shanks
-Alright, calling it here, Luffy is gonna destroy the Fishman Island by making Shirahoshi panic a lot.
-Oh, wow, that sucks.
-Oh shit, we won't even know who shot Otohime now. Its a "whodunnit"
-D'aaaaaaawwwwwwwwww, I actually feel something for the three generic guards now.
-Cool flashback, I wonder if its done.
Oh, no, not ANOTHER prophecy!! I just hope, it doesnt refer to luffy, because I really hate this child-of-destiny-theme in shounen mangas.
Yeah, I also hate this, but chances are, this is also Luffy.
And now, I think we can forget Jinbe and put Shirahoshi has the new crewmember… Boooo... :|
Well, I guess Jinbe was too strong for the SH's anyways.
I wonder who shot Otohime? Is Oda gonna go for the predictable answer (A human or even Tenryuubito) or something a little bit different (A fishman who doesn't want to migrate? Who knows)
Either ways, I hope Oda juices the mystery up, I love me some whodunnits.
By the way, I've been rereading this chapter, but it's not made clear how the shooter got past Otohime's CoO haki, was it?
I'm guessing either the burning of the signature box distracted Otohime, so she couldn't sense the shot coming in time, or it was a long distance shot and the killing intent of the shooter was out of the range of CoO.
Wow first color page has brook with flower afro!! Page 9 has 3 secrets but i cant find pandaman.Is he in the chapter?
@Dan:
You got that all from one panel?
IT's a gift :ninja:
Also, I didn't see it brought up by anyone during the whole rest of the chapter.
They might suspect him next chapter, which may be why he's wanted.
I think it was Vander Decken and his crew that were responsible for the burning of the signatures and killing Otohime. All of it was just a distraction to get a chance to touch Shirahoshi.
And yeah, it looks like Luffy's the prophecised one that'll guide Shieahoshi. And Baratie gets an extention dessert ship. They're doing great business.
@SGR:
Yeah, I also hate this, but chances are, this is also Luffy.

Well, I guess Jinbe was too strong for the SH's anyways.
I don't really see how people are coming to this conclusion. And in no way shapre or form is Jinbe too strong.
I think it was Vander Decken and his crew that were responsible for the burning of the signatures and killing Otohime. All of it was just a distraction to get a chance to touch Shirahoshi.
What a dumb way to go about it. Just like Jinbe said, "protect the royal family!!". You don't poke a bees nest to get the honey. I think Decken played the opportunist and got lucky. But even if that was the case, why the mystery? What kind of reveal will that be?
so far bassed of this flashback Shirahoshi is looking more likely to join than Jinbe, but i hope not her whole crybaby thing would get fairly old fairly quick.
also Otohime's death didnt make rmy shed a tear but i ralely do when reading it weekly it seems to hit me harder when im marathoning a series not shore why.
Where exactly did this whole "Shirahoshi as new crew member" thing come from? I don't remember where it was stated but I definitely recall something about, every crew member has a dream that they're pursuing. The one time in the past where a crewmember's dream came true (Vivi saved her country) she left the crew. It doesn't matter what kind of huge powers or abilities someone has, it's whether they have a dream to follow. Sure, she might have one that we don't know about, but until then there's no more justification for her than anyone else.
Also, totally agreeing that that shadow is supposed to be Shanks.
VDD is wanted because he throws stuff at shirahoshi. They will find out it was him who shot otohime eventually, but in the flashback i guess they dont know it was him.
i knew it was coming. i knew that she'd have to die eventually. i thought i was prepared.
but… damn Oda, you still nearly made me cry. ;_;
@No:
IT's a gift :ninja:

Somehow, I managed to not see the rifle on his waist - that's weird. Makes him the most likely candidate for the assassination, at least so far…
Wonder how he managed to get past Otohime's CoO, but as someone mentioned, she was probably too absorbed with the signatures burning - which might be the doing of VDD, too.
I love how Oda shows a serious/sad side to seemingly goofy characters. Aladdin seems suspicious, odd to ask for a doctor when one is right there. Was Hodi in this chapter? Who could have shot her? With so many people happy to migrate somebody still feeling hatred should have stuck out like a sore thumb. Either CoO has some disadvantage we don't know of or the assassin knew how to get around it meaning they might be someone close to her.
Now there's a decent reason to discuss the princess' potential as a crewmate.
If she ever had a chance these developments effectively kill it. With such a power she can actually protect and lead her people after their inevitable migration. Not just ditch the job to her brothers and dad to go sailing for some inexplicable reason.
@Dan:

That chapter was directly related to Tom's relationship with Franky as was the entire flashback about Franky. Jinbei was just a bystander with a single line this chapter and he isn't the center of the flashback at all. Only connection to many of the events is simply that he was there, nothing more.
@SGR:
-Alright, Shirahoshi is gonna be the new crewmate. Disappointing.
I really wonder how Oda will incorporate her into the crew. A gigantic mermaid is kinda troublesome to include in a manga which for the most takes place on the land. Those bubbles on which the fishmen ride can only exist on FI and Shabaody Park so they are no solution either. And if all she does is swim besides the Sunny and joke around while on the open sea it would be a waste to even make her a SH. Perhaps the casket will age her until her fins split so she can walk.
I swear it hasn't happened to me in a long time, but the page with the princes dancing and acting all stupid in order to prevent Shirahoshi from crying, while they are crying their eyes out. . .That made me almost cry. I think it's fucking, FUCKING powerful. I don't think if I'll sound exagerated or something, but I think, in terms of dramatism, Oda just outdid himself here.
The rest of the chapter is great: Child of destiny can be annoying, but I don't know if it's been done that much in One Piece anyway. And hell, if Nausicaa could be a child of destiny, why not Luffy?
Also liked the shooting scene. That I wasn't expecting; a diversion, an unknown shots her, and that's it. VDD was kinda funny in a creepy way (the way he touched and talked to Shirahoshi like nothing happened, that was kinda black humourish). And all in all, great chapter.
So, btw, are the pacing issues still that bad? The flashback is being fleshed out just fine, it's long without being boring and filled with info bits and good caracterization (is that even a word??). And I predict a FI map as long as we come back to present day, with the SH preparing an assault on Hodi's forces on different points of the Island.
If she ever had a chance these developments effectively kill it. With such a power she can actually protect and lead her people after their inevitable migration. Not just ditch the job to her brothers and dad to go sailing for some inexplicable reason.
I see what you mean, hope you're right.
