@taboo:
^Monsters U? Doctor did make the first one after all
Nope, that's being directed by Dan Scanlon, who hasn't directed before, but has been a storyboard artist on a few things. Doctor doesn't have much anything to do with it, which was one of my disappointments/worries when it was announced.
Also 3 days till Brave trailer
Will be seeing that in the theater on Cars 2.
@Satsuki:
More Cars 2 reviews are trickling in. So far I can't tell if the bad reviews are because they really think it's a bad movie, or if they're just disappointed that it's not the usual Pixar Par Excellance. And some of the complaints seem to be from people who just can't accept that this is a cars-inhabited universe with no people.
The first one is the Pixar film most derided by critics to begin with, and this one seems waaaay more over the top and crazy. Of course this one was going to get hit by critics, and folks who keep wanting Pixar to fail or have a bad outing just for the sake of… not having a flawless record and being better than everyone else?
The all-car universe messes with adults, while it doesn't phase kids in the least. And while the original was low on my list for a while, its steadily risen through repeat viewings. It has a lot of heart and good stuff to it and was great to look at, and I'm looking forward to part 2... on Saturday.
I know its going to have good music, visuals, characters and heart, even if the actual story or premise is too out there to get really behind and its aimed a slightly lower age level. (Hell, Ratatouille is my all time favorite and it involves a mouse controlling a guy by pulling on his hair.)
And even if it is a miss, Pixar is allowed a couple at this point, and its going to be full of quality in a lot of areas. They're coming off Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up and Toy Story 3, of course comparisons are going to be rough.
Its going to make 5 billion in merchandise sales regardless of how the movie actually does, so its pretty bullet proof.
