Yeah I want the principle to kick some major ass a la Netero in HxH (I still haven't gotten to that part but I"m close.)
Good chapter, but it highlighted two problems I have with the series, one minor, one fairly major.
The minor one is when Kaede is looking over Kotaro's body. I remember when Kotaro was owned by Albireo in Mahora arc, Kaede said she would begin to train him to get stronger and I thought they would form a sensei-student relationship. Except Akamatsu never really did anything with that. It's a minor gripe but I wish Akamatsu did something with that if he was going to bother with it. Although he does have enough plot lines as it is.
The fairly major one is the one that Robby takes issues with it, and I took issue with it before Robby. A total of 9 girls in class 3-A (obviously not counting Anya) like
Negi: Asuna, Nodoka, Yue, Chisame, Ayaka, Eva, Chachamaru, Ku Fei, Makie. Really Akamatsu? 9? 9 girls who have serious romantic feelings for Negi (some more serious than others but still). In my opinion it doesn't have to be that many at all. Makie and Ku Fei definitely don't need to have feelings for him. Chachamaru is debateable, I personally don't think she has to love Negi, I like the idea that she feels love despite being a robot girl, but I don't think it has to be Negi.
Really the whole thing wouldn't be so bad if Akamatsu didn't make Negi 10. If he were 15 or something everything would be very different. But I think what bothers me the most is that Akamatsu's default method of creating characterization for a 3-A girl is to make them fall in love with Negi. That's the easiest way to characterize one of the girls and he's resorted to it a number of times, it just feels a bit lazy to me. Look I'm sorry if this sounds like a bit much, I still like Negima a lot. First for the characters and second for the fights, and a lot of other parts of the story too. And I genuinely believe it's the second best battle manga out right now. But I have gripes with it and I think I agree with Robby, it's not for everyone.
