Don't forget Epic Mickey & Epic Yarn.
General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)
-
-
Yeah but I was referring to the games coming out on Tuesday
Unless Epic Mickey actually comes out on Tuesday
-
Ah, didn't realise that since we don't get DKC till december.
-
Oops, my bad .
-
Guess I'll just have to stay away from the DKC thread for the next few weeks.
-
Fuck Colors, if you own a Wii and a PS3/360, just get DKCR and Brotherhood.
If you're rich, anyway.
As I said, I am planning on getting DKCR first, but I need to play the first two Assassin's Creed games before I even think about Brotherhood.
Don't forget Epic Mickey & Epic Yarn.
I already own and have beaten Epic Yarn and I'm gonna wait for the reviews on Epic Mickey.
Come to think of it though, I still want to get Megaman Zero Collection and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
On a side note, it appears the gaming industry has yet to fully understand the modern concept and use of the word "epic."
-

Keep forgetting that. Yarn doesn't come out here till january.

I haven't been to impressed with LOS to be honest. I bought the Zero Collection a while ago, but the shoulder buttons on my ds have packed up, so I'll have to wait up till I get the 3ds for that.
On a side note, it appears the gaming industry has yet to fully understand the modern concept and use of the word "epic."
That kind of thing isn't exactly exclusive to the gaming industry. We all use words like awesome all the time, to describe something that usually isn't even close to inspiring awe.

Make sure you get it. One of the best Kirby games in recent years.

Yeah, I know. That's pretty gay.
….Whoops.

…why the hell is Sonic X on CW right now? It's 2:30 AM Monday. The late night shift of Sunday.
And apparently commercials for YuGiOh and such.
Uhm... Toonzai?
This is some odd crack programming.
I can't imagine why a kid would be up this early for anything.
Maybe 4kids is paying them to air it twice a week and our local affiliate decided to wedge it in hereOr maybe its a bizarre side effect of marathoning LOST that no one warned me about in advance.

Today I'm going to rent Sonic colors and borrowing the Wii from a friend.
I'm looking forward to play the game, cause of the reviews and if it really plays like a Jump and Run with speed and nothing like Rush and Unleashed.[Edit]Woah, double post, sorry!
Okay, I'm posting my first and further impressions in Spoiler Tags~
! Sooo, I started Sonic Colors today and finished Tropical Resort, the first "Planet" with 6 Acts.
Yeah, so far I'm enjoying it - I'm just at the beginning, but the "30 % speed and 70 % platforming" seems to be true. You have multiple paths, but due to just two Wisps at the beginning some are yet closed for you, so when I unlock more I will visit the past levels again.
But the first boss was a let-down. Really, I jumped at the platforms, crushed him one time, saw that I have a Lazor-Wisp and wanted to try something. And then he was dead. WTF?! That was really, really fast :(
! But thankfully Sonic Team seems to have remembered that Sonic is not just about Speeeeed, no more “hold right to win”. Yeah, I tried and died. Thanks!
! …
I don’t have a Wii so I sucked at the beginning…very hard lol
Thats why I changed the Wiimote with my Gamecube controller.
You can play with the Wiimote + Nunchuck, Wiimote, Classic Controller or Gamecube controller – But it’s just a matter of taste, really.
Comparing the Physics with Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors, Sonic Colors wipes the floor with Sonic 4s ass. Precise controls, no dull physics. Dimps, you should learn from this game…or better, do not make any important Sonic title anymore.
! Now something about the story:
I didn’t see so much, but what I saw was very nice and lighthearted, the voices are great, F-I-N-A-L-L-Y they are acting! And Tails, Taaails! Oh, I love the interaction between Sonic and Tails, even though I saw just a little bit. Sonic acts like a totally dickhead and Tails uses sarcasm, their interaction is very naturally and they are acting like real buddys, not just a Hedgehog with a tagalong~
Eggman is also great~
I’m very glad that the story is cartoony and lighthearted; Sonic doesn’t need this furry love shit from 2006. The characterization is superb and I hope that the writers will do more work for future Sonic games.Yeah, that’s all for now =) Hopefully the positive impression will last.

I've been playing this for a couple of hours now. I cleared Tropical Resort and I'm currently teeter-tottering between Sweet Mountain and Starlight Carnival. I really like it so far. My main issue is that the later acts which tend to be more gimmicky. The only point in the game where I've felt completely out of control (or rather, where it irked me) was Starlight Carnival Act 1, but god is that level beautiful. I'll give more impressions as I play further. It's not bad at all, and it's certainly more of a platformer than Unleashed was.
It's pretty nice to know that Wisps are absolutely optional as well.
-
is sonic above mediocre yet
-
I really do love the writing in Sonic Colours. It's how Sonic characters should be at all times.
i'm still debating on whether or not I want to get the game though.
-
-
Ugh, the Starlight Carnival Boss was such a cocktease >_<
-
Was loving the game.
Then I got to Planet Wisp Act 4.
I wanted to punch babies.
EDIT: Realized I shouldn't have turned Navigator off because it apparently told you how to get past the part I am stuck on.
-
Just started Planet Wisp… now I'm scared because I've been enjoying this game. (Loved Sweet Mountain's platforming)
-
I can't stop listening to Terminal Velocity's music.
A good number of Eggman's PA chatter are pretty hilarious. "Please hold your breath against the harsh vacuum of space until you pass out from oxygen starvation. After that, you won't care.'', indeed.
-
Sega is so full of shit about the Sonic sim coincidentally looking like other levels. I swear 2-1 is a near replica of Marble Zone
-
Planet Wisp is awesome, its just Act 4 handed me my ass cause I had Navigator off. Turning it back on now.
EDIT: That and its damn near a giant pitfall of doom.
-
I just cleared all six acts of Planet Wisp. Probably my favorite level thus far. What part had you though?
EDIT: Sonic is officially the mascot of Internet pirates everywhere. And WTF Planet Wisp boss is a rehash!
-
It was pretty much after the platforms rotating in a square in Act 4. I made so many control messups and just not knowing I had to do a speed boost before the accelerator.
-
Ohh… yeah, does taking the navigation off remove the warning signs as well?
-
Warning Signs and things like using Boost before the accelerator. Still keeps using X to go under low points though.
-
I see. I thought the Warning signs were a nice touch. I didn't think you could turn them off.
-
Keep forgetting that. Yarn doesn't come out here till january.
I think I've seen some NoE announcement saying March…
-
Yarn is out in the U.S., that's all I know
-
Dear God… those levels with the moving springs are fucking terrible.
EDIT: Eh, I'm done playing for now. Aquatic Park Act 6 is pissing me off.
-
I stopped after I cleared Planet Wist.
Really want to skip Aquarium Park and head straight to Asteroid Coaster but I need to save the best for last.
-
I did the first Act of Asteroid Coaster to get the last Wisp. Not a bad level, but probably my least favorite of the first Acts. Aquatic Park freaking owns though. So glad to see water levels make a comeback. It's just at the end of Act 6, you're forced to use the Hover Wisp and it's kicking my ass. LOL
-
Made it to the final level.
UGH. It's like every flaw in this game thrown into one giant ball of UGH.
-
So Sonic still sucks and all is right with the world. Ugh.
Well, I can only afford one Wii game this month, so I'll definitely be spending my money on DKCR.
-
I really do love the writing in Sonic Colours. It's how Sonic characters should be at all times.
That's the MadWorld guys for ya.
So, hey, looks like I'll actually be buying a 3-D Sonic title for the first time in years! I'm almost excited…!
-
It's really good. The cutscenes are hilarious. It's cheesy. EXTREMELY cheesy. But the game's story DOES NOT take itself serious, so no crazy Princess Elise shit. So it's all really fun.
Gameplay is very solid. For the most part control is in the player's hands for 95% of the level, with notable exceptions being most of Starlight Carnival, Act 1 and Terminal Velocity, Act 1 (which I have yet to beat). Platforming definitely has precedence over speed here and trust me, you will not be holding right to win.
Wisps are decently fun, I like the spikes, frenzy, and drill Wisps myself, but I abhor the Hover wisp. Laser's a little tough to handle, and cube is pretty boring. I played as much of the game as I could WITHOUT using Wisps, but there are unfortunate points where you have to (Starlight Carnival Act 4 or 5 requires the Hover wisp.
Sonic has a double jump, much like Sonic 3, though it's of slightly more use! Underwater play is pretty fun. The bosses are decent first time through, but like Unleashed, they get rehashed later. :\
Exploration is also available, as levels are filled with multiple paths.
Overall the game is about 70% 2-D, which is the when the game is most fun.
In conclusion, it's a lot like Unleashed (HD, not the Wii version). It's like playing a day stage or two, then trudging through hours of Werehog, waiting for that sweet bliss of a Day stage, only without the hours of Werehog. This game is what Unleashed should have been.
In terms of ranking, I'd put this just above or equal to Sonic Adventure 2 (which is outclassed by SA1 of course). This is definitely the better Sonic experience to come out this year.
-
So the 3D is just needless fluff to hide people from the fact it's a 2d sonic game.
What's the level design in the 2d setions like. What is the best level to showcase it.
-

I'm gonna ignore this part since those games suck ass. And that last sentence isn't saying much.
If there's not a lot of game breaking, decent voice acting, and no "emerald hunting" ugh, then this is FAR above Sonic adventure 2.
I don't know why I liked SA1 or SA2, they really are glitchy frustrating garbage. (Although, the Sonic Levels had some fun in them but everyone else was a chore.)
-
Sonic Colors is good. Very good. I have finished all planets besides Aquatic Park (just 2 level to go), but I'm enjoying it very much. The platforming is good, just sometimes frustrating because of various pitfalls, but overall one of the best things Sega or rather Sonic Team came up in years. Just make the 3D parts more like the 2D parts, and then I would be a very happy woman.
But I'm really disappointed in the boss fights. Most of them are just rehashes and very easy to defeat. What a joke =/
Obviously the cutscenes are cheesy, because the story was written with children in mind before Sega noticed that also the older fans liked the game XD Well, the little kids love the humor.
But it doesn't bother you, because there are not too many of them anyway, it’s just there to give a reason, why Sonic is chasing Eggman again. For anyone interested I recommend SrewAttack's Review, because it sums everything up (the good aspects and flaws of Sonic Colors) very well and how I feel about this game.
-
On a different note: Starlight Carnival Act 1 Visuals looked so amazing when I did it. Starlight Carnival as a whole was rage inducing.
Bosses are like Twilight Princess. Way to easy for more seasoned players.
-
So far I've cleared Tropical Resort and Sweet Mountain totally and Starlight Carnival Act 1 in the Wii version and Tropical Resort-Planet Wisp Act 1 in the DS version. So far I'm liking it.
-

Hmm… I'm inclined to say one of the Sweet Mountain levels. It was this planet that made me fall in love with the game.

Well, SA1+2 are held in high regard, and this game is pretty much glitch-free and there is no emerald hunting whatsoever. Personally, I'd say this game is probably better than SA1+2 in practice, but a Sonic Adventure without all of its glitches would probably be a far better game.
-
Finished the game.
! Boss fight was very nice and the music is love
no monster of the week, just eggman with his machine, using all the Wisps Power. Final attack was sweet, all wisps combined for a rainbow attack XD
But the first act of the final part was a pain in the ass -__-; shitty lazor-monsterVery happy how this game turned out. Music is top, the gimmicks aren't horrible (cough werehog cough), cute cutscenes, Sonic acting like Spiderman…
this game is not perfect, but the best sega produced in years. Hopefully not an exception -

Sonic Adventure 1 is held in high regard by idiots.
It's a weak ass game and always has been. -
@JERK:
Sonic Adventure 1 is held in high regard by idiots.
It's a weak ass game and always has been.It wasn't THAT bad. Had there been more polish, it would've been far better. The Adventure series was pretty much torn down by the MASSIVE amount of glitches and the like.
-
The controls were weak, the non Sonic portions blow ass, the story and cutscene and music shit is everything people make fun of Sonic for now, it innovated that trash.
Even aesthetically it's ugly in about half the game. -
Curse online videos. Always luring me into a false sense of security and making me think it'll be easier than it actually is.
-
I've been playing around in the early stages. God, it's like entire levels are hidden away underneath them, all that take a wisp power :D
-
And? What are yours favourite Wisps and levels?
And I started to read some issues of Archies Sonic…holy shit.

Aside from the furry shit, the plot points and original characters of the series arent that bad.
Fleetway Sonic was the shit though.

Oh Sympathy X.
