I knew IGN was bad, but I didn't realize they actually went out of their way to give number scores to consoles!
Makes me wonder what they gave the SNES.
-
Apparently they gave a fairly bad score to the DS as well.
Figures.
Seriously though how can you put a score on a system in it's infancy with less than 10 games available for it?
Give it a score in maybe 5 years?
-
Console Wars. In the end, they are probably the most pointless news feed in the gaming media to follow.

They gave the DSi a 7.8. I facepalmed
-
how could they give dsi only a 7.8? whats wrong with it? and hell its late enough in systems life that the game library is amazing
btw really curious on their psp score, the first one. anyone know? cause i mean if they give the 3DS a 4 for the battery life i want to see how biased they were on that.
besides i like how they say 2-5 hours for battery. has ANYONE seen anywhere else or heard of anyone in japan ever say 2 hour battery life? the lowest i have ever heard is like 3 hr 15 minutes or so. and there is HUGE difference between 2 and 3.
makes me feel like he took it out of box and played till it was dead and said, "wow only 2 hours" not realizing that the system only comes with a "half-charge"
-
Lol console scores
-
I honestly couldn't rate any console on just the console itself. Most of the time they're just pointless on their own.
'durrr! I have this Xbox but I don't own games or DVDs! I know! I can use it as a doorstop! 5 points out of 10!'
I suppose the Wii you always got Wii-Sports bundled with it. Was it the same with the Snes and Mario Allstars?
-
Everytime I think of IGN, I think of this picture only
!
-
IGN is pretty shitty, but console ratings in general are a joke.
-
Listening to IGN's opinion?
I laughed at the thought.
-

Let's be honest with ourselves the DSi is just a DS with a couple of new and not entirely necessary features and gimmicks.

Given how much of walking punchline the PSP is I would have to believe they wouldn't rate it very high.
IGN is pretty shitty
Personally I think Game Daily and Gamespot has them beat.
-
7.8
7.8
7.8
7.8
. fucking 8
IGN, come over here so I can kill you.
-
Why are you guys getting so bent up over such a lame joke?
IGN sucks; console reviews are lol-worthy, and it's their stupid opinion.
They're just reviews. Console reviews, at that.
-
Its not the review, its the decimal.
-
Kotaku has a Pilot Wings preview up.
http://kotaku.com/#!5783326/pilotwings-resort-is-more-than-a-simple-nintendo-sequel
This is definitely one of the first two games I'm gettting when I finally pick up a 3DS. -
Ah. I thought IGN changed to the .5 system.
-
There's no frame of reference for "reviewing consoles". Except comparing what they gave to others.
What would be a 10/10? The best console achievable by human technology? You can maybe rate an accessory. But if you wanna review consoles, you could say maybe try in a historical perspective. That review made no sense though. -
I give ign a rating of IGN/10
-
-
Actually IGN did change to a .5 system. THat review was probably made just before that though
-
-
they gave it a 7.8 because the first album was totally better, man. don't you read Pitchfork?
-
Hey, is anyone into that "Rodea the Sky Soldier" game? It looks pretty cool as you have to point and direct your character to objects through the level using your wiimote. It's also for the 3DS and it looks pretty good. Some people are comparing it to NiGHTS, others are saying this is Yuji Naka's own version of Kid Icarus. Regardless it looks great. A quote from CVA: “Rodea’s focus on judging aerial distances is a nice fit for the screen’s 3D depth, and we can see the slide-pad happily reliving the remote pointer of duty. We’ve got high hopes for this one.”
Here's the wii version of gameplay and a bit of story from it:

Never heard of it till now. But I sure do want it after that huge colossus fight.

It would be cool if it had some type of online but I doubt anything but Time Trials will be on there if anything. Yuji Naka is also the creator of Sonic ( I believe or the lead programmer of the first sonic game). Takumi Miyajima is writing the game, and this game has been trademarked by North America which is saying that they're releasing it for wii and 3DS.

Joint with Hirokazu Yasuhara & Naoto Ohshima.
I've been less then impressed with the games he's made since he stopped working with Yasuhara.
-
It doesn't look like this has been mentioned, but what's up with this 3DS kill switch? http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=153665
If something goes wrong and your 3DS is bricked because the game you bought used at Gamestop was bootleg, will Nintendo believe/help you?
-
Other nintendo systems have had similar messages on game boxes. THat said, they refer only to a specific game, whereas this says "this game and/or system". COuld be a meaningless change, or it could mean they can stop unauthorized devices that are used in place of a game by bricking the system
-
Pointless scare tactic.
-
Played Pilotwings on a demo unit at Best Buy today.
The 3D effect didn't really impress me.
Like, at all. :(
Game mechanics were good though. Reminded me of 64.
-
Huh, so despite remaking Devil Survivor for the 3DS, it looks like Atlus is also making a true sequel for the regular DS. Well, looks like after Ace Attorney Investigations 2 eventually comes out I'll be getting one last DS game after all.

Really? I tried the Pilotwings demo and It looked better than any 3D movie I have seen in theaters. It was nice enough to the point that I tried playing in 2d and had to change it back. It seems like peoples perceptions of 3D can vary a lot.

I played it too.
At the highest 3D setting I was seeing doubles of my Mii, though I think thats just a thing with my eyes.
It looked all right at mid level.
I did like the feel of the analog circle too.
-
i've been tempted to stop at best buy at test it out, but i think i'll wait till i get mine in the mail and let it be all exciting then

First review for Ghost Recon : Shadow Wars
http://www.gamestm.co.uk/reviews/ghost-recon-shadow-wars-review/
GamesTM is a high quality English gaming mag (actual journalism, not IGN style), so getting 8/10 from them is very good. Their description of how it plays is making me even more hyped for this then I was before.
-
seems every 3DS game is getting like an 8/10
which i'm fine with. HUGE mistake that reviewers did this last gen was giving all early games like 9/10 or higher. then its like wtf do they do now. basically eveyr game coming out is way better than the first launch games for ps3/360. so do you give it a 9+ or do you somehow rate it worse than say call of duty 3 which got fyi 8.8 on ign. i mean hell that pathetic game got practically a 9.
-

Considering that the 3d works by sending seperate, but overlapping, images to each eye…
BUt yeah, 3ds has a sweetspot, and pilotwings 3ds seems to have more issues with that then normal from what I've heard -
Hahahaha Oh Epic you are such fail…
http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=153827
Apparently Ubisoft did what you were to lazy to do.

I like to think of it more like:
Epic: 3DS huh. Lets try the Unreal Engine. We could reach new fans with Gears of War.
Microsoft: WHO THE HELL LET YOU OUT OF YOUR CAGE!? FOR THIS WE'LL BUMP YOU DOWN TO KINECT! GET BACK IN YOUR CAGE AND SAY HELLO TO RARE!
And that's probably why Epic couldn't get it to work. Microsoft wouldn't let them.
But errrr. Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. Yeah. I'm fine to not have them really. UT was great back in the day but the new ones weren't as fun.
-
GeOW is mindless unadulterated fun. No tactics, no strategy involved, just plain ol' senseless chainsaw-gripping super actiontime shooter fun.
It is really fucking cheap and unbalanced, though.

Well Ubisoft only got 2.5 to work, not 3.
-
Yes but 2.5 is still fairly impressive. It is the engine that Duke Nukem forever is running on.

More like this is a problem that begins and ends with Mark Rein.
-
Hey guys, I got mine yesterday. Yep I got it early. Any questions? If you want proof go to this link.

Yeah quite a few people in the UK got theirs yesterday/today.
Pilotwings and Nintendogs arrived today for me. Unfortunately they're for my Birthday so can't get to play till 14th.

3 is great. Love it to bits. Don't really get the hate for it.
Surely Unreal 3 can work though. The fucking iPhone can run it cant it?
Aren't SSF4 and the RE games using MT Framework? That looks fine when running and takes almost as much to run.

Nice to see them censoring a game that is so bouncy. I wonder how many outraged parents will claim their kids are playing porny games because they bought them the game cus of the nicer box.

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched for this game, actually. I don't expect it to do well for the simple fact that 3D doesn't affect the gameplay at all, so it loses the appeal of the system (also turn based strategy games aren't usually big sellers). This would just be a great game on any system, regardless of graphics. I'll probably dump quite a few hours into it.
I'm not sure I'll believe the immersion bit in that article until I see it. Racing games, flying games, etc are the games that gain immersion in 3D because it actually affects gameplay rather than just being pretty. Those are the same types of games, however, that will get a lot better with some 3D programming experience. I'm going with GR since it won't simply be replaced in a year or less, and I'll settle on letting the AR games show me what the system technology is capable of. That should last me until Ocarina I'd hope.
-
The only reason 3D should be used is for immersion purposes. I play in 3D on my computer and from my experience it really doesn't make you any "better" at playing games. It is there to look good and change how you immerse yourself in the game. 3D makes a game like Oblivion literally come alive in your screen and the effect can be amazing. But it doesn't help me kill trolls any more easily.
People who complain about how it doesn't add game play don't get the purpose of 3D which primarily serves as a graphical upgrade.
They might as well complain about color in games, all it does is look nice and not add much game play value. OH no. Lets all game in black and white from now on.Anyway that is my little 3D rant. Now I go to finish Crysis 2. In 3D.
