Forced Listening Thread

Fly Lo is just one man.
-
Wow, this situation got really flipped around on me. I really didn't want to review a FlyLo song since it is really to pinpoint the exact reason I like this guy. he just evokes such natural peace of mind in me when I listen to him. I can't even put his music into a particular genre. It is easy to put him into experimental but his music sounds so different and unique there really is no one else like him. You picked a good song by him. Anyway Lord Zeb his latest album is definitely the most easy to get into but don't let that stop you from pursuing his other albums as well. There are some real jewels on them.

Well new youtube code makes this thread look weird. But I'm not complaining. The new player is totally awesome as it paves the way for youtubes decline as the monopolist for embedded videos.
I found that song a little bit… boring acutally. It's like it's BGM. It doesn't make a stand on it's own. When I played it I didn't even realize the music had stoped for a minute or so.
-
I usually don't review songs that I know and love, but I haven't listened to Cream in so long, that I'll allow it. The buildup in the beginning lets you know why the song is a classic. It's funny, reviewing the song now, since there are some things that feel conventional if you remove the temporal element. The main riff reminds me a bit of Sweet Home Alabama, haha. The heavy, distorted guitar, though, is just fantastic and works very well in conjunction with the more drugged out slower bits. This song really takes me back, since it is one of the main reasons I got into heavy music in the first place. Looking back, the overall sound feels really close to where doom metal started, with the huge psychedelic influence and weight of the instruments. I guess that would explain why a band like Trouble would cover them so well. The only real issue I have is that it ends on a fadeout (which I feel is only rarely used in a constructive way). Otherwise, White Room still holds up as a fantastic and classic song, even after I've delved deeper into music.

Trying out new things. No more hip hop till May. Really hard since 99% of what I listen to is Hip Hop.

If you ever want to expand your tastes you can always send me a PM. I won't say I'm the most knowledgeable, but I know a few good bands in a large amount of genres.
-
I've posted it here a few times before but here you go. Let's stop cluttering the thread now, though, haha. We can carry this over onto the new profile conversation feature.

Oh man, I am still laughing over here. This guy is by far one of the funniest singers I have ever seen. The way this song started and when I first saw what the guy was wearing, I almost fell out of my chair. I really felt bad for the poor guy in the video. Just a couple of words about Rock and Roll, and the guy got tortured. Anyway, nice simple song. Love the psychedelic atmosphere of the song, I really felt like I was getting absorbed into the song. This song really shows how some people feel about music. A couple of misplaced words and they flip out.
-
I really dug the tune and atmosphere of this song. Soothing, relaxing and reassuring. Kind of had an "End of the day" and "Going home" feel to it. At least until he started singing, and then it seemed to take on a kind of uncertain feel, like what will happen or what will tomorrow yield (perhaps it was because of those "How can it" lines). Overall a lovely song with a lovely atmosphere. I liked it.
-
Very driving song. I liked it. From the riffs to the lyrics to the vocals. All-around good rock package. If youtube would work, I'd probably load it and listen a few more times but I can only get in on metacafe.
-
I guess I'll review another of your selections, M00n.
Holy shit this is cheesy as all hell! But, remember, that is not necessarily a bad thing in my book. In this case, it really drives the song. It's got just the right amount of cheese to be really fun without overdoing it. I was a bit woried at first with the intro, but I'm glad the rest of the song stuck to being metal through the end. The Dio influence is really powerful. I guess you can say that about any power metal band, but it's really ingrained within their music. Hell, they even reference a Dio song within the lyrics. The breakdown emanated some King Crimson vibes, which may seem weird, but then again, power metal does have its roots in prog thanks to Uriah Heep's impact on the genre. This is a very solid song in a genre that I don't usually appreciate. Good stuff.
Classic…

This song was just fun. From the very start they were able to really able to brighten my mood up. The horn in this song is just incredible. You almost don't even realize it in the background half the time but if you really concentrate on it the whole mood of the song is based around it. The horn section is also really good. I feel like I have heard the rhythm before somewhere. Really good video also. They just don't make it like this anymore. This song was probably very awkward to listen to after 9/11. Still this song just makes me smile. Love the atmosphere.
-
When I started the song, the beats and the deep electronic sound led me to expect something different and wilder. Then the lyrics kicked off, they appeared a bit too calm and serene to me. The quality of the vocals, with that slight echo built in, made it feel like a song from the 80's. But the longer I listened, the more it seemed befitting. The hectic backgroundmusic plus the almost calm lyrics created a pretty sweet mix. It made me feel… melancholic somehow. Can't decribe it better... They lyrics themselves added to that experience. "If i survive, would you stay and say you’re sorry?" pulled me down a bit, in a good way.
All in all enjoyed it, I think I already got a couple of Daedelus tracks on my playlist, time to go relisten. Now, I seriously feel like posting something very weird resists urge to post Major Lazer
This one one's a bit slow, and yeah the lyrics are pretty strange...but give it a try haha[hide]

It was enjoyable. I like his normal voice in the end better than the falcetto one but aside from that I have no complains. The melody really nice in it's weirdness. It's kind of, unpredictable and that makes it's interesting to listen to. Because you imagine what it might sound like in the next second and I was wrong quite often. Than again I only listened once so..
-
I always liked live productions. They feel so much more natural and smooth. The music, the lighting, the performance, the camera angles, and particularly the ladies voice all worked so well. The emotion in her voice was really something else. I really felt what she was singing. I got feeling of regret and little bit of spite in her voice. she really knows how to hold a note. Really liked the part where everyone started to clap.
IDK I think all you people who like rock would enjoy this.

Adele - Rolling in the deep
That was an excellent song. It was my first time hearing anything from the singer, it left a very good first impression.
At first the song reminded me a little too much of Katie Melua's Two Bare Feet, the verses of both songs do sound strikingly similar, but it differs from Melua's jazzy style in that it builds up to a more blueish sound and feeling and an excellent chorus.
Her voice range is simply amazing. I really dig the chanting backing singers in the chorus, it adds a nice depth to it. All in all a great song! I'll make sure to share it with other people.EDIT: I didn't notice Hawkeye's post until posted mine, so:
The Slew - Robbing Banks
That was a good song, there is a lot of percussion going on, I like that, the added turn-tabling at first makes it sound like a rap beat, but the guitar riff and the singer's voice gives it a more rocking sound. I'm not even sure what sure this song can be put in, but I really like it. Thanks for sharing, the stuff you post is always very refreshing.

Sorry Hawkeye, I didn't want to review your song… just kidding of course. I think I clicked on the reply button prematurely, I usually listen to the song a few times before I give my opinion, and most of the times I end up looking at other material from the artist. So i didn't notice your post until I had posted mine. But I did review your song, look back again!

@Aioria: Now that was a really distinct and interesting song. I can't really place the genre or culture, but it sounded kinda Mexican or country-ish. Had some very interesting instrumental selections. I'm not even sure what instruments they were playing at times, but it was still hella fun to listen to. The singing was great too. I loved how intense they were.

Promised myself that I can't post any "Hip Hop" songs for this month so I am trying to find some substitutes in the mean time.
@Nobodyman
Wow this song really is something totally that I would listen too. Putting this one on my playlist. I had to play this song over a couple times. I concentrated on background music too much that I totally ignored the lyrics. And then I started to concentrate too much on the lyrics and didn't really pay attention to the dynamic at had with the actual music. Had to go back again to watch the video. Really like how the almost tropical island like beat suddenly starts changing into this party song. Loved the "In the Jungle Part" this song had too. Really unique lyrics and overall song. -
Definatly one of the better songs of your detour from Hip Hop. Guitar puts the chill in and Snythesizer the action. Nice turn around from the usual set of roles.Yet another fadeout, I'm afraid this will be too much for Wagomu :D
-
not for me though. The stooges are great. . .

god damn, that man can play guitar. However, I find it mostly impressive rather than appealing musically. Compare with Jake Shimabukuro, who can play with a similar speed and intensity and has complete control over his instrument, in his case a ukelele, but produces tunes with identifiable refrains and melodies that will get suck in your head. This guy is great, no doubt, but I hear it mostly as a rhythm piece than an actual song. The lyrics don't add much for me. But I don't want to sound too critical, because I would give a kidney to be able to play like him. Let me repeat: God Damn.
One of the aforementioned Shimabukuro's best. Although, he has a band to back him up, it's not just him and a guitar strumming away, so maybe that comparison wasn't very fair.
-
That was a very nice arrangement, a very calm but engaging melody. I can conclude I haven't listened to ukelele enough, I really wouldn't have recognized it by ear alone.
The solo at 3:12 is great, although I feel the tone of ukelele doesn't do it enough justice.
The wah-wah w/ distortion at the end was pretty awesome. Very good one!@Nobodyman: The band is actually from Boston, they have several rotating musicians and play many different instruments, their genre is difficult to classify: fusion would be the easy way out.

This is my favorite song of her post-Delgados age. -

Yeah, I know, this is his show in the royal albert hall in London and he went for impressing the crowd, which, for this song is actually kind of a shame because the actual song "woke up dreaming" is a very good song with great melody and the guitar is still awesome but I guess he had to go overboard. I wanted to post another version of this song but I can only find bad quality live vids.
-
Here's one.
By the way, guys, I might have a radio show this weekend. If any of you want to listen in, keep an eye on my signature for details; if it happens, I'll put up some details. :-)
-
Read the rules of the thread, man.
I may listen in if I have time. I should really put my radio stuff in my sig, too, seeing as I have four shows now…
-
My bad, I wanted to share the tune and forgot.
As for that, I'm always a fan of female fronted indie rock, so… now you've got me downloading some Emma Pollock, haha. Love the raspiness of her voice.
-
Well, it would seem that everything is in order then!
This song has a very nice 'soft' feel to it. I don't mean that in a stupid 'soft rock' sort of a way, but as in actually having a soft texture. The sounds and effects really all contribute to that sound and it's fairly enjoyable. I'm getting some mild chillwave vibes from it. There's a nice flow to it as well, like a nice gentle breeze that suits the languid state I'm in. I can't say I liked the addition of accordion. It somewhat broke the illusion for me, but perhaps that's just because I find that kind of accordion use to be on the cheesy side. The product is still pretty nice, though.
Another classic! I had this on the premier of my new metal show. Probably one of my favorite death/grind tracks of all time.
-
Not bad, not bad at all! Death metal is one of the few types of metal I do like, and I REALLY love the percussion in this.
His voice, though, seems to be lacking a bit of the 'oomph' I'm accustomed to, but then again, I spent my teenage years listening to Angela Gossow non-stop so I'm a bit biased towards that. ;-)
To keep up this 'red oni blue oni' thing we have going, here's another tune on my end:
And to finish up on this far-too-long post, I definitely have a radio show this weekend at a god-awful time, haha. My signature reveals all. :-D

I love songs that just start off by running out of the gate. I instantly got into this song and I tell you this is one of the better songs posted here. Love, love the background music. The piano, with spurts electronic sound effect really makes the atmosphere upbeat. The guys voice was pretty good too but the background music is what really makes the songs. The dynamic between the words and the music makes this song so easy to listen to. I was so engaged with just enjoying the music that I completely ignored the lyrics. Listening to it again, it really has some great lyrics. The love story is illustrated so well by the video. This was one of the few songs I actually enjoyed reviewing.
Screw the no Hip Hop promise I made. I'm tired of looking for new genres I like.
Good song but I feel like the chorus was somewhat forced.
-
The production on this song reminded me somewhat of MF Doom. The weird use and manipulation of jazzy sounds to provide background to the vocals. Definitely some top notch beat work there. And, of course the vocals don't falter at all. The flow is preserved so well between the two rappers. They don't lose momentum at all and synch up perfectly. Definitely another fantastic entry from the regular Hawkeye fare, haha.
Something less classic than my more recent entries!
-
The text is kinda funny but the voice is in constant limbo between sounding like a 20 year old girl and 12 year old boy, and the intro was unnecessarly long. I think the only thing I really liked was the refrain which felt kind of eerie in a good way. Overall, i guess I won't listen to it again.

The song caught me a bit off guard at first. At first it sounded kind of light and folksy, but then the song got a bit more intense. Anyway, solid song with a solid tune. I take it the singer and song are Hispanic, because…well, they certainly sound that. And it's a damn fine Hispanic song. It's catchy, soothing, thrilling and even a bit mysterious, just the kind of song I like. Oh, and I just love how the singer rolls his "r"s, something I've never been able to do. He can "barra barra" all day long and I don't think I'd ever get tired of it.
-
Hmm. I liked the guitars, but the song as a whole didn't appeal to me.
The beginning reminded me of The Who and the whole thing sounded a bit like Pantera and AC/DC and the likes, but I think this song missed some energy. I even got a little bored at the end. So, sorry, didn't like it.Here's mine, Surface to Air by The Chemical Brothers. Put on your headphones, turn up the volume and enjoy your trip.
-

You would have probably guessed it, had I posted a video with the guys name on. Rachid Taha is an Algerian in France who sings in Arabic
I hated the first one and a half minutes. From there on it was a completly different song. I don't think the two parts fit together at all. What did they think when combining the two? Anyway the melodic second part was very laid back and enjoyable. If that song were in my playlist I'd make itunes start it at 1:40 or something.

Oh? I like it, it's buildup.

I love nice chilled out songs like this. Whatever string instrument that's playing throughout song really set the mood. Every once and awhile the play the flute it really is beautiful. I think this is the first time I've seen you post a Hip Hop song but you definitely have good taste. Hip Hop really doesn't have too many song like this now a days. This people's lyrics are really good and the way they sing is just so calm and relaxing. This whole songs feels like a good summer day. The video was so perfect for the song.
-
Himuki - Hold On: Great song, I really like the low profile melodic beat, it made me concentrate on the lyrics a bit more. Overall the song sets a relaxed feel good mood, I just laid back and listened to it a couple of times and then to a couple more songs by Himuki in youtube, very good stuff.

I think this is the first time I've seen you post a Hip Hop song but you definitely have good taste.
Credit that to this thread. previously I hadn't listen to Hip Hop since 8 mile ^^
@ Aiorias He's good at what he's doing. At points it was really enjoyable at other a bit mellow for my taste :P Nevertheless it's one of the better examples of such music I've heard.
@Mrs.:
Oh? I like it, it's buildup.
I kinda didn't :D , but I realized it's probably not so much the unfitting combination afterall. Cause I do like songs with the same pattern like this one.
-
Good song. Very atmospheric with a soothing melody. Had kind of a tribal feel going at first with the drums (not that that was bad). The singer's voice kinda bothered me at first, but I quickly got used to it. Kinda interesting how they ended it by playing a loud beat every few seconds during the fade out. So yeah, good song.
-
Duran Duran is classic. Pretty much everything about it, the build up, the lead singer, the instruments, is best of the 80's. I consider this decade of music charming to the highest degree; missed being born into it by two years >:(
However I have to say the verse lacks a bit of power. It's nice to listen to, definitely something to sway to, but nothing that I'd keep remembering after listening to it.The chorus however, THAT's where it's at! This is the kind of stuff I'd sing on top of my lungs when half drunk haha
All in all, very good song. The chorus is completely dominating the listening experience however.Just discovered this cruising through the internet. Let's hear your judgement!

This is a very nice piece. The musical portion of this song reminds me a bit of post-rock. Sort of minimalist music building up a thick atmosphere. It works really well in the hip-hop context. It's very relaxed and yet it conveys a different mood pretty well. It all just flows well together, especially with the rhythmic contributions of the vocals. I quite enjoyed this.
Time for some progressive rock! I've really been digging this lately since I pulled it out of the library for my prog show last monday. I wish I could post the entire album, but this piece sums it up pretty well.
-
That was a really fun piece to listen to. Caught me by surpise by having a sort of mellow tune, but then shifting to a more fas-paced tune. There were a few parts that felt a little iffy to me, particularly when the song shifted to a more rapid and upbeat rhythm. Also, not sure if it needed to go on as long as it need. Did sorta feel like it was dragging around the 5:00 mark, but the music was still nice. And of the course that awesome triumphant ending. Overall, I really liked this song. I actually added it to my Favorites List on Youtube so I'd be able to come back to it later. Awesome choice Wagomu.
-
I'm not sure if I liked it or not :D
The text is pretty funny in a nonsentical way. From the music it's was at times intentionally simple and brilliant at others (bongo drums section). Also super average voice and black and white psycodelic o.O. Confused is probably the best term to descibe what the same make me feel like. -
Someone needs to bump this up.
I never really listened to War Riders, which is weird since I am a Sword fan. A lot of good typical stoner riffage. Nothing out of the ordinary, but still quite enjoyable. It doesn't really do anything, though. It doesn't move nor does it really have the staying power to remain at the main riff. It's definitely got a nice energy to it and would make good driving music, but this is not the best the Sword can do. A bit disappointing, but still okay.
New Devin Townsend Project. I don't know where I land on it, myself, but I'm interested in seeing someone else's reaction. It sort of cuts off a bit in the end, thanks to youtube being youtube, but you aren't missing anything.
-
Now that's the type I would listen to over and over just because it sounds boss. The ending is really as it gets quiet. Some probably won't like it but I personally like it. The cover looks great too.
Found this song randomly. It's epic. Enjoy it
