The Music Genre You HATE

I'm just kidding.
And country it's not bad, the problem is the current bands that screw the genre, the old ones possess the best musicians…
-
New country isn't destroying the genre. I hate when people say that. Now I'm all aboard the mainstream nu country hate train, but the statement irks me in two ways. 1) There is definitely fantastic newer country out there (I can't say I know much modern straight up country at all, but there's certainly some current alt-country bands I love). 2) Bad new stuff does NOT drag down the genre as a whole. Maybe it messes with the image, but try thinking of one genre that doesn't have a bad public image in one or more ways.
-
Country and Hip-Hop.
Hip-Hop in particular. Cant stand that shit. Poetry to a beat. Not music. No musicianship involved. Maybe you disagree. Good for you.
Am I going to have to add a disclaimer to the OP?
Don't.Do.This.Shit.People.It's absolutely retarded.
I don't care which genre you're gunning for, this is indefensible.
Particularly coming from a hardcore Metal fan. You should know far far better. -
Well, I think I should have expressed it more specifically. The most part of current bands nowadays is screwing the genre, not destroying or things similar, it's like messing like you said. Most of the bands in the old ages were excellent, nowadays it's the contrary. It's not like ''All the current bands are shit'', because we have some very good bands that are recent, but they are the minority.
It's that I want to say, but I just said that in a poor and general way, so it looks like I'm being an idiot to say that everything new is horrible.

I let you a post on extreme metal Zephos. Read it at your own leisure.

Good bands have always been in the minority for any given era. Remember that at the same time guys like Zeppelin were going strong, the bands that topped the charts sounded like this:

…Okay, bickering aside from when we last talked about it (and all that 'NerdRap/HatingRap=I'M WHITE AND HATE BLACK PEOPLE bullshit), 99% of the time I can't stand rap.
[hide]Believe it or not, I tried giving Tupac a try for the purpose of seeing if I could use his songs for something (Soulja' Boy, Mama, Riding Our Enemies), but instead he reminded me of why I don't like rap in the first place. It's just too loud and noisy for me. It is music, but I just don't have the ear for it.
It's pretty much the main reason I'm just limited to Nerd Rap. I don't go there because it's 'safe', but because it's fun and I actually know what the hell is going on.
One thing I WILL give Tupac, though: He's passionate about what he does, because damn if it didn't sound like his songs take a lot of dedication and practice.
Still, for all the hate I have for it, I can't help but like Deltron 3030 (from what I've listened). He was pretty good in Gorillaz, and I think he's possibly the only rap/hip hop artist I'll listen to for inspiration (aside from Ohtsuki Kenji, but I wish I knew the lyrics to his rap songs just to gleam what it's about).
I think I'm half and half on Pop, but only because I have a cursory idea of what Pop is. If it's just Boy Band shit, then I hate it. If it's just stuff like 'Manic Monday' and 'Story,' then I think it's alright. If it's both, then I just take the good and throw out the bad.
Whatever 'Tin Can Hit Man' is, I'd like to explore more.
Also, final note: For some reason, I can more easily get into a song that gives me visuals (or even has visuals), which is why I guess I also like listening to some broadway tunes (Avenue Q especially) and Disney songs (the villain ones, anyway).
Metal I see as an acquired taste, but I'm mostly neutral on that.[/hide] -

It doesn't matter what the fuck you think, Hip Hop is music, despite your narrow-minded defintion of it..
And somehow you should understand this, since Black Metal/dark Metal fans often have to hear "this isn't music, just some smelly guys screaming" bullshit.
Edit: I don't really hate any genre in particular, only thing in music I completely despise in every way imaginable is lolicore. -

If there was a screaming/shouting/grunting singer in a metal band at least theres a backup group to listen to. Try muting the vocals in your average hip-hop track and see how interesting THAT is to listen to.
It's a totally different scale.

Wow, way to be ignorant as hell.

Wow, way to be ignorant as hell.
In a thread asking why I don't like certain genres of music, it's a bit hard to explain why without actually explaining.
Maybe it is ignorant but I don't see the appeal. Maybe JERK is equally ignorant for posting something like this:
@JERK:
But this…this I absolutely cannot see how it's possible to musically enjoy something like this. And not because of any kind of being offended, but god help me, above all else because...
! GOQuX7pCiPo
..because it's like a huge joke! This has got to be a joke! The singing I mean. it's certainly making me laugh….it's just you're kidding me right?
Wagomu help!
I honestly just don't like anything about hip-hop. I've got a load of friends who like it and have tried to get me into it for years and years but it just never stuck. Not exactly going to stop anyone from liking it or tell anyone that they're wrong for doing so.
-
Hip-Hop is pretty much the only genre i really dislike. I just don't get the point of it, why listen to a bunch of guys talking about various bad things about their lives?
That's one of the worst reason to hate something. I guess you can't stand Dickens's book either.
-

My issue is that the genre's become meta. Look at the likes of Charlie Daniels and before that. The songs were never about redneckin' and hick pride and "bein' a South'un boy". It was just music with genre-specific instruments and structure. Nowadays, I find myself hard-pressed to find non-meta stuff. The genre changed from Country Western to "Southern Country" or something. Now, yes, I'll admit. I'm a big fan of country music. Name an artist, I can probably name every album they've put out (pre-2004 at least). Granted because of circumstance, not so much choice, but that's not the issue. The issue is that, coming from someone who enjoys the genre, it's simply not as good as it used to be. Granted you've got people like Reba still dropping great songs, but it's not as it was when I was growing up. :\ Must be the nostalgia glasses. :D

lol at everything

But Brad Paisley is fucking awesome.
-
Brad Paisley's not the issue. I can name like ten good Brad Paisley songs right now.
And Brad Paisley was doing it before everyone else was doing it.
And I can't seem to think of any "meta" songs by him. :\
-
As a guy that used to be into nothing but rock and metal etc, I'd like to suggest Lupe Fiasco as a gateway artist into Hip-Hop since that's essentially what got me into it. Of course my knowledge of Hip-Hop is much smaller than others here, I'm just going by my own experience.
Anyway here's a favourite of mine:

Lasers is out on monday too YESHHH.
-
I voted electronic. Simply because I find it repetitive and uncreative.
But that's only my opinion.I mostly like all kinds of music, I just don't listen to all of them. I guess that's the matter of taste.
-
Anyway, I doubt I'll actually cast a vote in this poll, because every genre has SOMETHING going for it.
-

A "rap song" by a progressive metal band.
And a guitar solo while someone raps over it? I'm good with this idea.
-
I hate techno with all my heart and soul
More precisely the kind of shit they play in rave parties, which I honestly think was probably used as a form of torture in Guantanamo
And this actually coming from a guy who used to listen exclusively to dance music, house, trance, trip hop and even fucking GABBER in highschool (I think I may still have a couple of Thunderdome cds at home, please forgive me)
-
Damn, I forgot techno even existed. I was doing a good job of repressing it, too… There's another genre that I can't find any enjoyable examples of.

I don't see why you would start with something like Tupac though. I'm sure someone like Zephos can give you come easier to get into starting songs though, Tupac is not representative of the whole genre.
-
I think I should be voting for Electro on this one, since I can't really stand Techno, Trance, Gabber and that fucking painfully shallow house music. Let's just say every time I see David Guetta pop up in another Music Video I close my eyes and slowly start to strangle him in my imagination and…Too much information I guess...
But I couldn't find myself to vote for this genre since there is some Drum 'n' Bass and electronic ambient music that I really enjoy. If stuff like Røyksopp or Four Tet counts to electronic, like hell I'm hating on it.The same could be the case with metal, with the difference that I really don't know shit about this genre. I'm honest, I don't even know the difference between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. All I know is that I actually found a Doom metal song I like, and that there are a couple of songs I'd label as Heavy Metal that are cool enough. The rest I stumbled upon, like speed metal, death metal and screamo, I considered terrible. Maybe metal is really not my thing, maybe I just haven't found my sub-genre...
With Hip Hop it was my brother always blasting Tupac and Wutang Clan through his room, who introduced me. With Funk and Jazz it was my Dad, who was a big Herbie Hancock fan lol
But metal... I just don't have a connection to this genre, at all.
And on top of it, it's comparibly hard to get into.
It would be the one I'd have to vote for. But as I said, the genre is too wide-ranged...Also, someone voted for classical!? What a world are we living in! cues moonlight sonata

True, I suppose.
And Soulja' Boy isn't Tupac? Does he have a song with a similar name? I was looking up his songs on Youtube and maybe I just clicked under 'related vids', thinking it was his. -
ahahahaahha , I'm sure most hip-hop fans would get very mad at you for making such a mistake.
Aaand already, someone has voted for all the options :getlost:

[qimg]http://www.mspaintadventures.com/storyfiles/hs2/03529.gif[/qimg]Not really enough going on for my liking. A bit samey and repetitive for the most part. The scratching on that first example was killing it for sure. Certainly not anything that I could enjoy live in anything other than a background music capacity.
Thanks for posting up some examples though dude.

Theres a thin line between certain styles of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock and it doesn't help when certain known bands (I.E Metallica) go off on a Hard Rock tangent lasting a few albums so it can be a bit hard to tell if you aren't in the know.
Try some prog and power.
! Bands like Star One (Digital Rain, Earth That Was, Intergalactic Space Crusaders, The Eye of Ra)
Dream Theater (The Mirror, Pull Me Under, A Change of Seasons)
Symphony X (Set The World On Fire, Church of the Machine, Smoke & Mirrors, The Odyssey)
Ayreon (Isolation, Ride The Comet, Stranger From Within, Abbey of Synn)
Angra (Nothing To Say, Temple of Hate, Nova Era)
Blind Guardian (Nightfall, Noldor, Precious Jerusalem)
Iced Earth (Ten Thousand Strong, When The Eagle Cries, The Reckoning)
! It's all kicking about on youtube and if you don't like any of that stuff then Metal probably isn't for you. If you do, PM me and I'll set you up with some more good stuff. This goes for anyone actually. -

Screamo=/=Metal and I can guarantee you what you are calling Screamo=/=Screamo (the whole scream/emo misunderstandings are a tender spot for me).
If you want to explore a bit, check out the little sampler I posted in the metal thread.
The difference between hard rock and heavy metal is the difference between this:

And this:

More specifically, the line is drawn somewhere between Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. It's a bit mureky around there.

Being exposed to music a lot will definitely ease you into a genre, but it isn't necessary at all. Just dive in and keep your mind open.

Interesting that rock only has one vote (which hardly counts since the person voted for everything)
I can't say that I hate it but it's been getting seemingly more stale over the last 10 years or so. That said I've fallen in love with a few bands like Airbourne so I haven't given up all hope.
Best introduction you can have to a band ever is when you experience shit like this live:
eKQaCTTsySw&
I honestly thought I was going to see a famous rock & roll death first hand. Audio quality on the vid is awful but hardly the point.
Other than that, I've found the entire rock genre a bit tired over the last 10 years. Don't suppose you have anything you can recommend do you Wagomu?
…and have some more Airbourne with decent sound quality while were at it.

I'd like to say that I don't like techno at all, but. . .
. . .if this…

. . .this. . .
! 1S35THmZD_E
. . .or this. . .
! mg-szHddVAw
can be considered techno. . .then, no. I don't hate it.
The first song is one of my favourite. The second one is so catchy I can't take it out of my head. The Whigfield one is SO DAMN CORNY and reminds me so much of my 90's youth days that I just have to love it. Like "what is love?" and whatnot.
If it weren't for that, Techno would be there in my despicable list.
-

I've never understood why Deep Purple is considered hard rock while Black Sabbath is considered heavy metal.
Is it tone? -
As far as mainstream rock goes, Muse is fucking amazing. They're really talented.
Not sure if Andrew W.K.'s considered mainstream but that's pretty kickass, too

Cool if you like it but I don't and I don't see the appeal. I really don't think of it all that much as music, maybe you do. Good for you..
No you don't get it. It is music, you don't get to decide this about it. It's not a subjective thing.
In fact it's downright stupid to even assert such a thing.
You cannot defend such a position. It's literally impossible. Drop it.Don't really see how that opinion has anything to do with my "hardcore" as you put it opinions on Metal though.
Because you are coming from a genre that gets the same bullshit thrown at it, and are amusingly failing to see any irony.
Othwerwise, fuck you. I'll post how I want
Actually.
A. My thread.
B. My rules in thread.
C. My choice to easily pull strings and have you thread kicked for pretty legit reasons.
But, no, I want you to stay here. It's nice to have a big glaring example of everything this thread shouldn't be yammering away.
….that's totally different though. If there was a screaming/shouting/grunting singer in a metal band at least theres a backup group to listen to.
I listen to hip-hop almost ENTIRELY for the musical aspect. I rarely care about lyrics.
Try muting the vocals in your average hip-hop track and see how interesting THAT is to listen to.
Are you fucking kidding me???
Instrumental hip-hop is not only a sub-genre it's one of THE strongest sub-genres in hip-hop. I could post literally thousands of examples of great songs. Entire hip-hop artists are celebrated for their beats and people will quickly buy instrumental albums. This is what pisses me the fuck off about you. You have no goddamn idea what this thread is for.
This isn't the COME AND BITCH ABOUT YOUR RIGHTEOUS RAGE AGAINST GENRE X.
This is the confess your honest feelings toward genres while keeping an open mind to understanding why others like them and how you might get around your prejudices. You are so deeply stupidly ingrained in your hate that you do the worst goddamn thing. You assume you know what the fuck you're talking about.
You have no idea about how stupid you sound right now saying something like
"Try muting the vocals in your average hip-hop track and see how interesting THAT is to listen to."
It's like saying "hey man try hearing a rock song with no singing and just s guitar playing, lame right?".
It's a huge facet of the genre and you are 100% clueless about it. You are not an expert. Do not think we're wrong. We aren't. Learn from this thread when others are talking, and stop trying to act like you know anything. It's a totally different scale.
It's absolutely not in any way.
In a thread asking why I don't like certain genres of music, it's a bit hard to explain why without actually explaining.
It's a fuck of a lot more then that.
Maybe it is ignorant but I don't see the appeal. Maybe JERK is equally ignorant for posting something like this:
Except I know I'm ignorant, which is why it's all phrased as a query, ending with (which you were dumb enough to quote lol) "Wagomu help!".
I'm asking people who know what the fuck what they think. You're just dropping in and shitting on something and getting pissy about it.

@Cuddles:
…Okay, bickering aside from when we last talked about it (and all that 'NerdRap/HatingRap=I'M WHITE AND HATE BLACK PEOPLE bullshit)
Nerd rap is horrible. But I don't know what that has to do with you?
Believe it or not, I tried giving Tupac a try for the purpose of seeing if I could use his songs for something (Soulja' Boy, Mama, Riding Our Enemies),
People already addressed this but you pretty much somehow confused the equivalent of Nick Drake with the equivalent of Justin Beiber loll.
but instead he reminded me of why I don't like rap in the first place. It's just too loud and noisy for me. It is music, but I just don't have the ear for it.
There's lots of chill hip-hop out there I could direct you towards if you like. Tupac is super aggressive even for most hip-hop as a matter of fact (and Souljah Boy is…lol)
It's pretty much the main reason I'm just limited to Nerd Rap. I don't go there because it's 'safe', but because it's fun and I actually know what the hell is going on.
I don't understand this.
What the hell is the appeal of it.
It's all ironic so what…the hell man. It's like a single meme played out over thousands of artists, all the more true of the "serious" ones.
It's like somebody made a genre out of one Weird Al song. And a really really condescending genre. It's not like Spinal Tap or something, getting humor from a beloved source. It's music by people outside of hip-hop (which is really hard considering how big the hip-hop world is) and mocking it. Even if they're just trying to mock themselves by extention, because of how it's using the music, how foreign the creators, it comes off all as pretty much a minstrel show.
Yes you're listening to it because it's safe. If you aren't listening to it for the joke then why aren't you listening to other hip-hop. Because the basic idea, rhyming, beats, resemble if only crudely the real thing.
And worse yet, if you don't know that why haven't you tried seeking it out when nerdcore itself is an incredibly obscure little genre that requires effort to look around in the first place?
There's plenty of real hip-hop people into stuff like that can easily get into and yet...
That guy is actually called Del tha Funkee Homosapien.
Deltron 3030 is the group he made with producer Dan the Automator and some DJ.
That's real hip-hop, there's plenty you could discover by just following where Del and Dan have been otherwise. -

But I guess if it has cursing in it it's HORRIBLE AND UNSAFE FOR SOCIETY

I've never understood why Deep Purple is considered hard rock while Black Sabbath is considered heavy metal.
Is it tone?To be fair, the line isn't very specific there either. A lot of people do consider Deep Purple over the border. Early Sabbath does crossover with them a bit for sure. The difference, I think, is darkness, heaviness and distortion in sound. It isn't that huge of a difference at the line, though.
@SympathyX:Other than that, I've found the entire rock genre a bit tired over the last 10 years. Don't suppose you have anything you can recommend do you Wagomu?
…and have some more Airbourne with decent sound quality while were at it.
60NTE23hCY8There are tons of great rock band still going around and starting up. The trick? They aren't playing straight up blues rock or hard rock anymore. Oh, you can definitely find your share of those bands:

dQfU7ZVnTIU[/hide]But the magic in rock, nowadays is in the places it's expanded to. Shoegaze, noise rock and post-rock, to name a few. I'm sure that's not what you're looking for, though:

m_9w1UBNsh0[/hide]Rock is still going very strong, and it's expanded very far and wide. If I didn't have work that I'm running away from, I would give you a more adequate sampler.

Don't get too bent out of shape people. Some people think spinich is gross. some think it tastes awesome. Music tastes are no different. saying hip hop is no good is not a personal attack, just a different taste. :)
and lol at who chose everything. I'd like to hear that opinion.
Not nerdcore, it's doujin rock or whatever it's called.
Also, the only version of Okkusenman that matters:
Ls7oOxUBbYQAn example of nerdcore:
QCJ0-hyJ-YMblah. i actually don't like that version. :) sorry though. could you explain a little better the difference between the nerdcore, and doujin rock. To me, they're both videogame soundtracks that have lyrics added to them.
@Cyan:
I think it's clear that most of the people voting country have not actually heard a lot of country.
in my defense, I grew up with parents who love country.
I voted electronic. Simply because I find it repetitive and uncreative.
But that's only my opinion.i can agree it's repetitive, but unoriginal. no way. :)
I actually really like electronic and techno. dance too.
@JERK:
This isn't the COME AND BITCH ABOUT YOUR RIGHTEOUS RAGE AGAINST GENRE X.
This is the confess your honest feelings toward genres while keeping an open mind to understanding why others like them and how you might get around your prejudices.i think your asking too much.
zeph, why not explain things nicely. people won't get so defensive. maybe syntax didn't articulate himself very well but he's allowed to not like something is he not. I'm sure others didn't know about that sub genre with just hip hop music. Actually, that, I might be into. it's really the singing in hip hop that gets on my nerves.
EDIT:
I still can't stand the "lol hiphop is not music its just niggers rhyming curse words and sexist lyrics" and "metal is nothing but a bunch of crazy assholes screaming their asses off and loud overdistorted guitars lolol" crowds.
lol on a lighter level, I agree with this though. (my apologies)

Taking in new data
Updating brain on new rap/hip-hop facts
Okay, so I was wrong.
I'll try following Del and Dan, and it is obvious that I've been exposed to very little rap if all I know is the Tupac stuff.
Are there more 'mellow' versions? -
Versions of Tupac?
-
Sorry, I meant chill Hip-Hop, but I can give more mellow versions of Tupac a try if he has mellow stuff.

@Yonkou#3:
Latin hiphop, reggee, whatever it's called. I'm not of that ethnicity, i can't understand whats saying. I'm sure it's just blind ignorance that makes me dislike it but i cannot fucking stand listening to it.
You mean reggaeton. That's genre been dead for awhile.
