Lackey: "Well, it is still currently ongoing in Japan. At the moment, it has 487 epi–"

Networks don't care how long a series is as long as it gets enough ratings.

Just out of curiosity, why does the length of a show matter? I wouldn't think they have to license out the whole series on their network, and they could just cancel it whenever they want to.
Edit: But yeah. I still see One Piece having a hard time getting on TV simply because i'm sure that networks these days would look more to how marketable it is as well as ratings. 4kids itself probably skipped the Little Garden arc simply to get to Chopper faster so they could try to sell Chopper merchandise quickly. This also puts shows like Yugioh and Bakugan at the front of the list in localizing.
Most channels don't want a show unless they made it, and if it's an acquired show they want it to guarantee ratings. If something did really well before and has a lot of name recognition than it can guarantee ratings. "One Piece" has a weird history on television, where it failed on Saturday mornings, did well on Saturday nights on another network with a slightly older demographic but ultimately didn't get to catch on. So I could see why networks would be hesitant or uninterested in airing "One Piece". It might help though if a large number of fans pushed for it.
But you never know. Disney XD picked up "Storm Hawks" of all things.

So true. Look at the Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, Gunsmoke, Law and Order, Sesame Street, etc. These shows chalked up the ratings week after week.
But you never know. Disney XD picked up "Storm Hawks" of all things.
I am still trying to figure that one out. haha
I think that any show that can proof to bring in rating is good for any network. If it is a long one then that is good since that means they can expect good ratings for a long time without worry to replace it because the show is ending. The Pokemon anime is a good example of that. Kids eat up that show like crazy.

Yea but those are all shows that are from america that everyone knows about. Now for the past few months ive met quite a lot of people whom i really did not expect to know about OP (even like the tools in my grade) who dont know about it from 4kids or CN. But still, OP is primarily popular in Japan and in Europe. In the US the anime isn't that popular, well, it is, just not LEGALLY since we all download our episodes off the internet, and for the ones that watch Funimation i dont think they're selling enough to call OP "well known" in the US.
I voted I don't watch I don't care. I meant I don't watch I do care. That's all.
Ok,Glad to know you care! ;)

Where on earth do you get your "information" from??
Where on earth do you get your "information" from??
what exactly do u mean? and i see ur still sporting that fabulous signature.
Yeah, definitely. It needs to be on TV, even if it is edited down to Toonzai standards. You don't have to watch it. Little kids will watch it, so who cares? It's not like they know any better when it comes to edits. The kiddies will unknowingly help support the uncut DVDs.

Well, he's right. Younger people today don't know what One Piece is due to lack of TV exposure, so everything depends on the minority of the fanbase (the dedicated ones who'll actually buy every set) to keep the show going.
Also, part of the reason why the anime industry is so bad right now is because of piracy.

lol yea i guess. I'm gonna be honest i download my episodes because i dislike the funimation subs, i dunno why their just not the same. I also like having them on my computer but i still buy the episodes when i can because i want to support funimation and i like their dub.

Why not? That's weird. They're not the same as the ones on the simulcast, if those are the ones you don't like.

wait different from the simulcast?
The subtitles on FUNimation's DVDs are professionally done and accurate translations (way better than fansubs), while the simulcast subs sometimes are inconsistent and have a little bit of edited terminology.

Oh yea the DVD SUBS im talking about the more recent episodes. Also, if funimation doesn't make widescreen dvd's then I don't know what I'm going to do.

1. Stop charging 30 bucks for 6 episodes, and start pricing things realistically I can put 8 sub episodes on a 25 cent dvd, no way one 6 crappy English VO episodes cost that much. and 2. Start trying to actually CATCH up with the anime and maybe this won't be as big of an issues. In terms of this idea, I do not know what to say yay or nay..

First off, you can get 13 episodes of "One Piece", with the option of English and Japanese with English subtitles, for 49.99 bucks or less. And anime costs a lot to produce, they need to make a profit somehow.
Second, FUNimation has been putting up new "One Piece " episodes an hour after the air in Japan for free along with uploading all the old episodes gradually.

Depending on were you search, you can find the boxsets for $25-$35.
You should try Amazon, Rightstuf and AnimeCornerStore.

The internet thing isn't that bad. My internet isn't the best seeing that it takes forever for me to steam something off of Crunchyroll but I can run anything off of Funimation perfectly fine. Unless there is high traffic that day then buffering is somewhat hard.

Oh yeah, you're that nakama guy. Figures.
First of all, I heard it costs $150,000 or so to produce one dubbed episode. Second of all, do you realize if FUNimation released One Piece around 2001-2006 on DVD, they would've released it as 3 or 4 episodes per disc for a retail price of about $30? 13 episodes for an average of $40 (which is how it's released currently) is NOT expensive in the long run. If you're going to criticize FUNimation and their prices, please get your facts straight before you say anything.

Complaining about the price of One Piece DVDs?
Simple solution.
Get a job!
In order for the anime to be as successful as it can be, it needs to be on television where television shows essentionally are supposed to go. Censorship I can understand to an extent but I ultimately won't care so long as people are watching the show and it doesn't go overboard on changing the tone of the series. If the tone changes due to terrible dubbing it might not be as popular as it outta be. Which is one of the reasons that 4kids dub was such a collosal failure. If we have Dragonball Kai I don't see a problem with One Piece Kai… I mean, One Piece.

Some people have to spend their money on other stuff. Honestly if they had more episodes on them then it would be fine but only 13 episodes? Again im not for piracy or anything like this zignoff guy but still i mean it's just way overpriced.

It is expensive in the longrun, and just to correct u it's actually 92,000 bucks for an episode

You must be new to anime or something.
In my day anime dvds only had 3 - 5 episodes a disc and they would cost about £15-£20 each (around $32). THAT is overpriced. Your complaints are total bullshit. Back in the day 13 episodes in a single set for anything under £40-£60 was unheard of. In the VHS days, you only got 1 or 2 episodes on a video for the same damn price! Some people just don't understand how damn good they've got it.
and as for the "some people" that have to spend their money on other stuff… so what. I have to pay rent, electricity, food, phone, TV, car etc and I still get the DVDs when I can.
...thats why I have a job.

Yea yea i know ive been around back then ive bought anime back then and at my usual dvd store they USED to be a lot cheaper. And no dvd had 1-2 episodes. But still i get ur point it's a better deal than back then but still I mean it's expensive. About 3 years ago when funimation started to massively release box sets and what not I could get a whole series of a 24 episode show for about 30 bucks, and then it gradually started to gain price. Now I can buy a complete series of an anime for 40-50 bucks, yet only 13 episodes for the same price? I get ur point but still it's not that great of a deal.
The subbed tapes would cost an extra five bucks, too. >_<

Its an incredible deal, your just too much of a cheapskate to pay the price for it. The OP Funi DVDs have always costed that much. 24ep Series always used to be around $40-60 (I've been importing for a long, long time). Maybe you found them cheaper but the retail price hasn't really changed in atleast 4 years.
Also, I said that VHS cassettes used to have 1 or 2 episodes on. Not DVDs. But your wrong again anyway. The original US release of Gantz had only 2 episodes per disc.

People are trying to complain about the price of One Piece, as regular tv shows are roughly the same price, with the same, or more episodes, but cost way more to produce. It may be the heavy amount of man hours it takes to storyboard, animate, voice act, or anything else in production, or the distributing costs, but that's' just how the price ends up, which in the end, isn't that much, even if it doesn't seem right to you.
Be lucky they're not the vhs price and get over it. Regardless of the budget, shows, video games, movies, all seem to have a fixated price. Movies average out at $20, seasons at $40-60, video games $50-60.

Nah i have many vhs tapes with around 4 episodes but i see what u mean. Also importing doesn't mean anything because usually they cost more and I wasn't talking about the OP dvd's i was talking about the times before OP was owned by Funimation, and maybe in the very beginning of the funi dub.

Yea I know about other shows im not just accusing OP but anime is different, or at least it used to be. I dont know where u all are getting these vhs prices things, and i've seen other anime at official retailers like best buy selling at around 35 with more episodes. I just want them to put more god damn episodes on one set, and then it would be worth 40 bucks. This isn't "back then" anymore.

Oh sorry. Just because you own VHS tapes with around 4 episodes on means I havent had an entire collection with mostly 2 episodes on. Silly me.
As for import cost, yes it DOES mean something. I don't apply postage costs when talking about the cost of the actual DVD.
Dont back track though, you werent talking about OP before it was owned by Funi at all. You mentioned the 13 episode sets all over the place.
…or is this more of your "adrenaline" nonsense where you'll just argue anything into the ground and make up "facts" from nothing.
You haven't the faintest clue what your talking about. The funi sets of One Piece are a godsend for OP fans. Perfect price for the right amount. Back when it was owned by 4kids we begged for a deal like this. Begged, pleaded and prayed. Now that we have it ITZ 2 EXPENSIVV... IT WANT MOOOR.
You just cant appreciate how good we have it these days. If you think the sets are too expensive then get a job. End of.
Supporting the official release isn't so hard for me anymore. Saving up for manga and watching the simulcast has put me in a comfy situation.

End of what ? And I have a job i said that maybe five times now, or maybe i didnt but im not gonna review my posts and look and see if i said it but im sayin it now i have a job so stop saying that shit. Anyway, I was talking about when i said THIS:

Honestly… I'm not going to even really waste my time arguing this anymore. This is nothing to do with being grateful, its about supporting a show that needs it. Not too long back for the same price as an OP set today, you would only get 3 - 5 episodes. The same price for 13 episodes is amazing. If you dont see that then dont buy them. Easy as.
Back to the thread -
Even with the results in the poll in this thread, I have to say that I am deeply, deeply disappointed with the OP fanbase.
Should One Piece air on Toonzai?
Yes - 28
No - 25.
I can hardly believe that the votes are really this close.
To everyone that voted no... hang your heads in shame. I don't even live in the country that this would air and I still voted yes. Even with the stupid 4kids guidelines, this isn't the same show that it was when 4kids owned it. We finally have a really good dub and the original sound intact. So what if the dialogue or action has to get a little toned down? So what if a few little changes have to be made here and there? After what happened last time there is NO WAY Funimation would dare let it get as bad as it was before. They are fully aware of how the fans felt about the show under it's previous owners, so theres no way the edited version would have anymore plot changing or arc skipping.
Some of you are just so stuck up and clinging on to your precious show that you just can't see the importance of decent TV exposure. The only way for anyone to purchase the show would be in its full, uncut state anyway and if it struck big that would mean more DVD sales, more revenue for the company and they would be more inclined to dub more of the show and bring that to DVD.
Getting it on to TV anywhere would be a step in the right direction.

True but look at dbz kai and look who made those edits….........
The Kai edits aren't even THAT bad though…. and even so, ATLEAST it's getting exposure to a new audience who may never have seen the show before.
If they want to see it again then they'll have to buy the DVDs which are uncut.
It's win/win.
Anyone who cant see that doesn't deserve to watch the show in the first place.

Nah the edits are pretty bad. Bad enough to detract people who haven't ever watched DBZ. Unlike Nicktoons. I hate it, but i guess there needs to be edits. Just not that much. Unless Adult Swim picks OP up then i want it to be on Nicktoons or something. I want to see some blood (but not expecting it), I wanna see some guns, Im not expecting cursing obviously, and i DONT WANT TO SEE ANY OTHER CUTS! Besides blood, maybe some fights in alabasta, and some of the REAAAAAALLLLY violent parts should be cut, but anything else and ill be pissed. But it should not be on toonzai, because toonzai is the offspring of the anime raping business that should not be named.
