Makarov is dying of old age but his much older mentor Hades isn't experiencing similar symptoms.
Well Hades did claim to have found the 'Essence of Magic'.
So perhaps he is artificially prolonging his life somehow.

I think you are right of course, Hiroy, and I still love Fairy Tale, but I just wish Makarov would definitively whoop some strong opponent's butt without first being manhandled easily at least once in the series. I thought this was gonna be it, and Makarov was going to have an epic fight with Hades, but he just got manhandled easily as usual.
You are probably exactly right on the mark as to why it is this way, this is to show Natsu's growth, I just don't like that it seems to be at the expense of Makarov.
Also it's not really explained why Makarov is dying of old age but his much older mentor Hades isn't experiencing similar symptoms. I mean is Natsu going to beat Hades when he starts hacking up like Makarov did? I doubt it, Hades will be full power and whoever defeats him will defeat his full power.
To be fair, Makarov is old, but it's a plot hole in his fight against Hades who is significantly older than him. To me it was absurd to see the much younger Makarov succumbing to his old age as Hades is just chilling in perfect health.
It's a minor issue, but I wish they would give Makarov some kind of real badassery. The giant scene and airship smashing seemed like this was going to be it, but then all the damage he did was easily reversed by time magic and he was handled easily by Hades, so the buildup was for nothing.
To be fair, it's clearly hinted to be unusual that Hades looks the same as he did when he left Fairy Tail all those years ago. It's a fair bet that the reason he appears to not have aged a day past then has something to do with his Lost Magic.

This stroke me as odd too. When Hades was supposedly as old as Makarov the latter was already in his mid-forties. A reasonable explanation would be the use of the forbidden old magic. If I remember correctly Urtear could do some sort of time-reversal so maybe that's what's keeping Hades alive at the moment.
That was stated to only work on non living things as far as I remember.

Oh I didn't remember that it was a long time ago. Well then it's probably just another red herring by Mashima. Hades would have been more badass if he was some kind of necromancy sorcerer who defied death itself.
Wasn't Shakuma prety fucking old in the original series ?
I stil can't get over how Hiro set up this awesome villain aliance only to have the big bad destroy it himself. Like killing all the normal soldiers in his army , destroying the Blue Guardians etc.
I never read Rave so I don't know how it was executed but I still find it better than another shounen hero powerup 101 by the power of grey skull friendship.
You should read Rave.
Right fucking now.
Then come back and share our pain.
Heh I guess I will give it a try when I have the time. I heard it was awful though and similiar to FT in some aspects (including a Gerard clone?) so I don't really know what I should expect of it. Also the art looked terrible in the first chapter at least Mashima improved in that aspect quite a bit.
In Rave, Sieg Hart (the gerard-looking guy) is actually comparatively badass to the one in FT.
Also , there is Haja , the person with the strongest magical supply in the world, and his master Shakuma.
You probably won't see a hierarchy of this sort in FT any time soon.
I wonder what Lucy "Tits McGee" Heartphila will do next chapter.
Probably nothing important, as the focus is apparently going to be on the Mirajane/Lisanna vs. Azuma fight.

Well she put her top back on a couple of chapters ago.
That will have to come off for starters.
@No:
I don't mind Lisanna comming back because we can then learn more about her.
Problem is she got brought back just to fail in the first round of the tournament…...when Erza decides to curb stomp her friends beyond what even the master considered necessary and not letting them pass.
That annoyed me so much , to the point it made me hate Erza. Again.
I have never liked erza

This arc is being handled just like the first half of that arc. Where the blue guardians all at once attacked that bald fat guys gang. I honestly a large sum of the characters from FT losing. Unless someone there has a way to contact Gildartz and ask him bixlow and fried to return. Than with those 3 than it would make more sense for FT to win.

Shakuma and Haja would rape the entire cast of Fairy Tail, every single one of them

I kinda wished that mashima would focus on somebody else's fight. Cause we already know what Azuma is capable of.
Hey I'm late, but yeah this chapter blows.
I didn't post in this thread during the good times since I already learned from those mistakes.
@Fire Fist:
They never do. They only voice their opinion and never their reasoning behind it. Most of the time, they're just trolling. Other times, they're just biased or purposely trying to find fault with a series because they've decided that they can never like it.
lol
Shut the fuck up.
Robby, Vanessa, Moria, me all went on in depth about what we don't like about this manga. Hell you've even had 2 explanations for this chapter.
But I guess calling everyone a troll is easier than calling garbage garbage.
Looking back a few pages, it seems he wasn't talking about you or those guys. He was referring to Airflow's "This manga blows so fucking much" comment, which was all he put down in his post.
Yeah, great, you don't like the manga. Now you can leave while we try to find a way to care :P
Anyway, I've been reading the graphic novels of Rave Mater lately, and I'm learning a lot about Mashima's life and career. Like how he said he's very impatient, and doesn't stick to something long, which is why he went from being a manga assistant to an artist very quickly. This could also be why Fairy Tail arcs are generally around 30 chapters, and fights are only 1 or 2. Also, when he introduced Seig Hart, he said "Magic users are much stronger than those who wield swords." And at the end of the volume, he said he loved the idea of people using magic and asked if the readers found the concept interesting too. It was clear even back then he was interested in a series about magic.
And yeah, only on volume 7, but loving Rave Master so far.

I recall reading something in Rave about him wanting to do a second series but he couldn't just drop Rave at the time. I'm wondering how much of Fairy Tail he had planned in his head.

What's this?
I thought Mashima had given interviews to the effect of saying he was completely self-taught, and had never served as a manga assistant?
Could you provide links?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I always pictured Silence as a gangster black guy.

No need to be rude, I wasn't referring to you, only to people who post "This manga sucks" and nothing else. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.
You know what? I completely forgot what Brain's guild was called the other day. Shows you how well crafted characters they were.
…....anyone remember ?

Oracion Seis, same as the group in Rave. Their gimmick was that there were 6 of them guarding Brain from unlocking Zero. When each one of them was defeated or had their prayer fulfilled, a line vanished from Brain's face. when all 6 lines vanished, Zero woke up.
There was also something that was never revealed or explained about Midnight having full power if all 6 of their "prayers" were fulfilled. I think it's a plot point that was discarded or never expanded on since all of Oracion Seis was defeated.
Oh right.
And of course we have the unexplained staff.
God I miss him :'(

now i need to get get a du-rag to preserve my street cred
I may've misread what his exact wording was, so you could be right and he said he completely bypassed being a manga assistant because he was impatient. I just remember reading that part and that he "just jumped into writing Rave." I'm borrowing the volumes from a friend so I'll check again next time I go to her house. Volume 6 I actually still have with me though which is where he talks about his fascination with magic.
This fight ended pretty fast… lets see how the other guys will do aggaint's the kin... erza should win too ... gray maybe .. will see..

Volume 6…is that part of the King arc?
I think so, cause the Oracion Six (as Tokyopop chose to call them) are starting to assemble and Seig just left. So I think they're building up to something involving King.
5$ says the Natsu and others don't become S class after all is said and done.
Now I think Kana will end up becoming S class. Some scenario where everybody else is defeated or immobilized and she makes a last stand in front of a conscious Makarov.
Or maybe she ends up finding the grave of the first guild master by chance during all the fighting lol.

oh yeah i forgot about her. She will. and natsu will stay the same because we can't have any character growth for the main, that'd be ridiculous.

Of course. Why , simply by taking down the leaders of merely two world wide famous dark guilds ? That's realy pushing it !
Chapter is out on MS.
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/58243627/1
I liked this chapter because Natsu "lost" even with a power-up.
And the next chapter is "Ultimate Magic World"… with Zeref angry. Wasn't him a crybaby just 4 chapters ago? Let's see where this is going to.
God watch Ultear be an actual good guy..
lord…
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/58243627/8
No , I refuse. I REFUSE!!!
THIS is why she was brought from the dead?
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/58243627/15
Sigh.
…...
Fap.
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/58243627/21
How does that work again ? She was enwrapped in the bomb.
Anyway , I doubt Mira is dead. If so…...props up I guess even though she barely had any screentime.
Zeref is going to join fairytail i knew he was a dragonslayer.
We can't have two sisters in this world.
Why would you kill Mirajane like that?
I mean seriously the point of bringing Lisanna back now is what?
Also I guess Natsu passed out after his "win"
Okay, Natsu overclocking himself made that whole thing a little less stupid. Just a little. Zancrow hardly looks like he's been defeated, more like he's just in disbelief that someone managed to hit him. So maybe he'll get back up later on. Reminds me of Accelerator, in that regard.
Hm, unless someone gets hit with Zeref's death wave, I'm doubting anyone's really dead. Or will stay dead.
How exactly did Mirajane shield her sister?
The bomb was between them.
This shit don't make no sense.
Also you just know Lisanna is going to go Gohan-rage and transform into a demon as well.
Decent chapter, mashima was doing so well until that crouch shot of mirajane oh well. The fact that wendy is on the island makes the suspense of killing off anyone pointless.

Y it made no sense haha, hopefully it will be explained.
Good thing Natsu got koed, when he was saying that he wasnt going to retreat I was already mentally punching Mashima.
