I usually laugh and say "lol, you actually thought this was impressive or faithful" to the fans that come in here hoarding this episode with great critics, but I'm surprised and happy to say this episode 100% deserves them.
It doesn't, by any means, completely make up for the awful episode 2 weeks ago, but it was a pretty great episode, as expected, they couldn't cut Whitebeard's face unless they'd do stupid angles all the way through the other episodes, so they decided to have him burning, pretty good decision, the way Whitebeard was shown owning everyone was pretty fucking awesome, great job on whoever animated it.
The pacing was pretty impressive, they managed to condense 11 chapters in 19 minutes without any noticeable problems.
And of course… the reason why I decided to watch this episode even after that trainwreck that was 482.
BLACKBEARD
Although that double spread was awfully drawn, as said here, it was such a well-made entrance that I can't help but bow before it.
Great episode overall, one of the greatest of the War.
@Louis:
Ugggg, my hatred of the anime has reached new depths, they haven't done worse than this since the Luffy vs Hawkeye crap.
Ruination of the WB vs Akainu fight, seriously, it was epic because it happened so fast in the manga, that's why when reading it you are so blown away! That and WB getting half his face blown off, which they also trashed. Although that's pretty much the only stuff that made me hate the episode, it was so terrible that it runs over all the good stuff.
I did like the music and Luffy's crash, although that could have been made quite a bit shorter, in the manga I always felt that he pretty much was out of it from the moment ace died, still good though. The music was awesome! It really brought me into the feel of the episode.
Overall I would have to give this a 3/10. It was a decent episode but they ruined any chance of it being a great episode by killing the WB fight.
Don't you fucking compare this episode with that TERRIBLE excuse for a fight that was Mihawk VS Luffy, indisputably the worst non-filler episode of One Piece
Yes, the way Akainu got owned wasn't like the Manga, but it was also an interesting way of doing it, just like Whitebeard clearly doesn't slice a ball of energy that explodes, its different, but just as good, IMHO
@Ryuksgelus:
This ep had terrible art. It was like the Iva vs. Magellan episode.
Teach appearance looked like a kid drew it. Also not that impressed with the fight. I mean nobody had a problem with Akainu trying to use karate vs. WB? A quake that explodes like a ki blast? All that complaining about the ep leading up to Ace's death but this one gets praise?
This episode was hit and miss. Made Marco look like a bitch being blasted away by Akainu then some slo-motion running with Jinbe. They gave him a typical fat guy run instead of showing him sprinting. Episode is almost at Mihawk vs. Luffy&Jinbe level of failure to me. The cool scenes saved it however(luffy's break-down, quake punch, splitting the Island) whereas that episode had nothing redeeming.
They better turn this arc into a movie. I'm still in awe of all the positive comments.I must have watched something entirely different.
Jesus Christ, how can you guys even consider comparing this episode with Luffy VS Mihawk.
Sure, maybe you didn't enjoy the episode, but how are you even SLIGHTLY comparing them? And yes, the ball of energy thing isn't like the manga, but it works just as well, and Akainu using "karate" on Whitebeard and Jimbei running like a fat boy is hardly something that takes away from this episode's greatness.
@MasterKingJC:
People just looooooooove to complain.
lol, to be fair, you're the inverse, you will eat whatever shit Toei throws at you.
Not that this episode was shit or anything even remotely close to shit, mind you, just saying
