Surume still has healing powers I see.
You can see that the arm Zoro cut off is still missing (on page 8).

@Lee:
I wonder why Hammond didn't mention Jinbei. Besides Arlong and Hatchan, he also was related to Luffy at some point.
Also too bad we didn't get to see Van der Decken's face. Next time then.
Now show me the inside of that wonderful island. There's also another mysterious island within a bubble, smaller than the main Fishmen Island.
I don't think they people on FI respect Jinbei it's pretty clear by the tattoo which of the 2 they favor.
The dude on the left to Hamond is the one Hatchan's been talking about?
chap 84 translated by stephen:
Hatchan: Nyuuuuuu!!! You slippery bastard!!!
You've really got me hoppin' mad, now!! I'm gonna KILL you!!!
Did you know that aside from one man, I, "Hachi of the Six Sword Style," am the number one swordsman in all of Fishman Island?!!
The people at FI probably think of Jinbei as a traitor imo since he joined the shichibukai

How about a link?
Next chapter, "coup de burst" fails :-D
I want to see Luffy apologize like a little kid :-pI don't much like these underwater chapters because they really have no other option than escape. They keep meeting badass enemies but they can't do anything :-\ It's becoming repetitive…
Ah, unless as someone stated, Brook which we haven't seen yet in action, has already a reputation in the underwater world and gives a concert to obtain a "free pass".
Maybe that's the point. :ninja:
We should have some kind of balance in power. If they fought on land these guys would not stand a chance. :ninja:
How about a link?
Stephen's translations are regarded as one of the best around, but he doesn't want them to be used for scanlations as far as i remember. But here's the link for the whole trans of the chapter:

Thanks for the chapter, everyone.
Well…they made it. Fishman Island...finally. And...well, conflicted Fishmen. Oh boy...this is going to be fun.
BTW: sort of hope that the Flying Dutchman does return later, since Oda isn't going to leave a big Pirate legend like that out of the story.
the chapter was like 13 pages actually.
No it was 17 Pages, there were just a lot of lot of double page spreads.
good chapter…I would like a mermaid in the crew. There are too many men
I Loved that "–hmm..." impression on Zoros face, when ussop shot those sea weeds to protect them from the falling rock.
Seemed like he was seriously impressed with the growth that Usopp made in those last 2 years.
Imagine how much charecter development has there been since we can understand feelings from slight impressions.
I'm also wondering about the second bubble of FI. Is it some kind of a "VIP" area, or a some kind of religious place or is it only a second part of the FI?
Oh! And can't wait to see the MEEEEERMAIIIIIDS!!:wub:
hammond will be huge, we know this because he has his own laugh.
i wonder how strong those merman are. bascially i just want them to be trash. all those seamonsters wont do no good versus luffy for sure who can CoC them. but if there are that many seamonsters who even the kraken are scared of are under their control/crew, then mb they'll put up quite a fight. frankly they just look like guardsman for fishman isladn
I don't think they people on FI respect Jinbei it's pretty clear by the tattoo which of the 2 they favor.
Pretty sure there are also some fishmen and mermen who respect Jinbei and don't hate humans. After all, Whitebeard, their ancient protector, was a human himself.
These new combatants, however…
But yeah, there must be some grudge against Jinbei when he joined the Shichibukai. Even if he droped his title since 2 years.
So being obsessed with saltwater fish is finally paying off.
I think that the octopus merman is NOT a blue-ring, IMO it's probably a mimic octopus. They differ in colors, but most of them are either black/white or red/white.
They are very cool. They imitate several fish for protection.
!

I'd rather have a Fishwoman.
I hope it is a Indonesian mimic :D I love them. P.S. octopi aren't fish XD

I'm not sure if they really give a damn about the things WB have done. Jinbei cares a lot about it however, it doesn't seem like they care. The war with WB wasn't even mentioned. The tattoo's say otherwise. Whether there are other who are like jinbei is pretty irrelevant when the ones in power are like Arlong.
kraken had his tentacles curled up like a fist when he was running :D
awesome skull joke from brooke
I don't see how defeating a bunch of offshoot pirates in the arlong crew even compares with knocking out one of the world nobals, seams pretty clear that luffy's not there to start trouble :\

It's Luffy he goes wild where ever he goes.
i really wanna see the chapter that rehabilitates sanji's…sickness something huge is gonna happen i just know it.
also, during one of the fights, i'mw illing to bet anythign that zoro will get tossed out of FI where everyone assumes he got crushed by the pressure. thought he comes bak fine mb exhausted. if merman can stay alive and not get crushed, i bet zoro has the dense body mass to not get crushed too, and they'll go WTF!?!?!?
also, is that arlong's crew'stattoo on hammond? and the tattoo with the headless human in it, thats a modified version of the sun pirates's tattoo rite? i'm assuming arlong's tattoo means he was either a part of arlong's crew before, or arlong is now a huge boss of FI
i really wanna see the chapter that rehabilitates sanji's…sickness something huge is gonna happen i just know it.
THE MERMAIDS LOOK LIKE THE OKAMAS!
This chapter felt really short, those double pages are deceiving. Also, Oda is running out of jokes for Brook…
Wow! I'm so lost with body heights with this chapter finally…try to put Oz, Oz Jr, San Juan, Surume and the other biggies so far in a list Oo
Also, Oda is running out of jokes for Brook…
Ironic considering he is the joker of the group.
I do feel his character needs some serious moments in this arc. I'm hoping for a good 1vs1 fight from him in FI.
good chapter…I would like a mermaid in the crew. There are too many men
No there aren't. END OF THIS!!!
Poor Caribou is still inside that barrel.
i don't think fishman are the main bad guys it would be really really stupid if they were whats the big deal with whitebeard dieing if fishman still have control of the island and arlong better not join the crew or i am not reading one piece anymore
Why would Arlong join?
i don't think fishman are the main bad guys it would be really really stupid if they were whats the big deal with whitebeard dieing if fishman still have control of the island and arlong better not join the crew or i am not reading one piece anymore
I hope he does join the crew just so I can laugh at you when you continue reading.
ya..i dont see how is any way arlong would become part of the crew…no one from arlong`s crew would join SH...nami would never allow it
I hope he does join the crew just so I can laugh at you when you continue reading.
well 2 years ago when they should of gone to fishman island i wanted to see it before i stopped reading one piece and 3 years later i finally get to see it and arlong joining just adds to me not wanting to read anymore story goes way to slow
For the first time I must say that the chapter was a little disappointment. Too much big frames and dull backgrounds, and the pacing felt too fast. Also the interactions between the crew weren't in the same level than before. But it wasn't a bad chapter, it just wasn't as good as the others.
In theory if Franky has built some kind of swimming arms/machines or Propeller in his back for swimming than if he were to eat a Devil Fruit than he'd probably be the only DF User who can swim right =P
This chapter will be much better animated then it was written. I can already tell. The animators won't have to put in too much random useless scenes to fill the episode, there's plenty to work off of.
SO Surume is not fateful and probably will be useless the rest of the show.Maybe they will tame that Shark next.
ya..i dont see how is any way arlong would become part of the crew…no one from arlong`s crew would join SH...nami would never allow it
I'm sure people said the exact same shit about Franky. Oh by the way, Nelson says: Ha-Ha!
Sweet revelatory chapter with an action packed pace. Why is Oda the only one who can balance those two aspects of story telling these days?
It's pretty awesome that a bunch of my predictions were confirmed too. Fishmen Island is balanced between three Hurukiman Mangrove roots. That's why the giant sap bubble formed there. Also, the underwater section of the bubble is definitely mirroring a shallow water coral reef with smaller bubbles inside the larger ones.
@Don:
It
s definitely one smaller bubble inside a huge bubble.(you can see it even better on the smaller bubble on top..it also is a smaller bubble surrounded by a bigger bubble). I guess in between them is water, because so the harbor appears to float and with water in it it
s actually useable.
I thinks it`s some kind of entrance as we saw in Skypia, where fishman try to see whos entering the island.
After that comes the inner bubble, which seems to have air inside it, because we see some smoke here and there rising in the bubble(the smaller on top) and some kind of clouds(in the big one).
But they also use like on Shabondy some small bubbles as we can see.The city itself seems to be made out of corals and seems to have many hidden and dark places in between them.
In the smaller bubble on top it seems like a castle is located..could be the place where the crew gets to know the mermaid-princess and Jinbe.That we have real actinism visible: mhhh, i think a huge bioluminescence "sun" could be located a bit over the island..maybe from a giant fish the fishman control.
Good observations Don, I hadn't even recognized the dock for waht it is. I'm starting to get the inkling that Jinbe's been overthrown as the titular head of FI. Two years is a long time for a conciliatory/race traitor leader to hold on to power after losing his WG approval.
@Don:
So a new fishman pirate crew has formed, just like i thought.
Seems like they want a full control over every action on FI.
The leader of those new formed group sure is the new arc villain, as he will be the one who wants\already took the power from the mermaid princess.Their sign is the beheaded man inside the sun-pirates symbol(which shows how they stand to humans)..why he has the arlong-sign also on him..mhh maybe Arlong just used that sign and it actually symbols Fisher Tiger, or some other organisation the fishman are very proud of.
The guy on Hammonds right is definitely an octopus and the guy on the left a lionfish.
Rly cool designs so far, i am sure Oda will show us his best fishman-ideas he collected over so many years..HELL YEAH!
I'm excited too. Also, I'm gratified that the importance of Arlong on these islands is already apparent. That's definitely his sawtooth shark symbol. I'm starting to wonder if Arlong is going to be the head of these "New Fishmen Pirates" or merely a idolized martyr figure. Either way will be interesting.
Anyone else predicting that the current head of these race baiting New Fishmen is going to be secretly allied with DonQ's New Age pirates? The slavers and the fishmen supremacists could be playing both sides of the racial tensions to further a joint secondary aim.
@Mr.:
I'm willing to bet the fishmen are so strong because of the pressure. Sorta like gravity training.
Not a bad call.
@city_lights31:
Will merpeople share similar strength then?
Kokoro did pull like 5 people through the water and launch them into the air. That's a lot more strength that you would predict from a little old lady.
@TCold:
Another great chapter. Anyone noticed on page 11 that giant seaking they met when they accidentaly sailed into the calm belt, really long ago?
I thought the same thing, but when I looked back to chapter 101, I noticed that the Holstein pattern on the side of the sea king was different. So, they haven't been followed, it's merely another individual of the same species.
@icel:
So being obsessed with saltwater fish is finally paying off.

Sweet observations! I wonder if Oda will have that guy try to hide in front of a rock at some point and be kicked for not hiding well enough.

Other notes:
----- Instead of those classic merhorse mounts from classical greek mythology, do we instead have merlions, merrhinos and merbears Oh My!
----- I like it that the welcoming crew instantly recognize the strawhats for who they are. Their notoriety has now made them international stars. The going sunny is never going to be able to land at a port incognito again.
----- Usopp's new weapon and power up seem fairly awesome. However, part of me wishes that he had maintained his focus on being the best sharpshooter. Now he's the best long distance gardener in the world... not quite as impressive.
------ I'm loving the new fishmen designs. The driftwood hilt on the maybe takoman's sword is a nice touch. And I like that the Lionfishman is using underwater harpoons as a weapon.
So far this is the most awesome start to an arc ever. Nothing else even compares.
well 2 years ago when they should of gone to fishman island i wanted to see it before i stopped reading one piece and 3 years later i finally get to see it and arlong joining just adds to me not wanting to read anymore story goes way to slow
I do agree it took it's time.
The whole crew split up, amazon lilly, ID and war really slowed downed the whole process (not that I did not enjoy a lot of it). It took forever to get to this point but now that we are here it didn't feel like sucha long time after all.
Time goes fast I guess. :whistling:

u mad bro?
No, that was a very impressive scene. I meant the volcanoes, there were very little details but the frames were big, so it felt like wasting pages.
Good chapter. It's hard to tell what Fishmen Island really looks like, guess we'll have to wait until the SHs get inside. And the size of those sea kings on the same panel… they make Sarume look like nothing, yet the SHs didn't really react to them.
And we definately haven't seen the last of Van Der Dekken... but will he be a friend or an enemy, we'll have to wait and see. But it seems likely that the new captain of the Fishmen Pirates is going to be the arc's major villian. However Hammond (couldn't refrain from thinking of Top Gear's Richard Hammond lol) did praise Luffy and compared him to Fisher Tiger, and that might be enough for him to gain respect from the new captain.
And also, I don't understand why people find Sanji's new trait annoying, yet don't comment on Brook's skull jokes, which are pretty much the same in terms of being repetitive and undeveloped.
by the way i don't think arlong is the captain of the new fishmen pirates;
hammond keeps talking like "you beat the crap out of arlong and his crew" or "[…]from arlong's crew", if arlong was his boss, would not he talk different?
let's hope for some cool fishmen island action next chapter =D
Did anyone point out how Robin stopped herself from falling during the eruption?
I thought it was hilariously cute.

This idolized martyr figure-idea i rly like,boiga.
Arlong seems definitely to be popular at FI.
Maybe they idolize him because he was the first guy who split from the sun-pirates because of his thinking against humans.
This explains that they let nobody pass to FI who only has slightely to do with the WG.
The new formed fishman piratecrew finally now follows his thinking and definitely show via their symbol that theyre against humans(or at least the WG).. Thats also the reason why Jinbe is against them. He made back then clear, when he banished Arlong from the sun-pirates, that he doesn
t approve that way.
Anyone else predicting that the current head of these race baiting New Fishmen is going to be secretly allied with DonQ's New Age pirates? The slavers and the fishmen supremacists could be playing both sides of the racial tensions to further a joint secondary aim.
Not a bad idea, but it seems for me more like they would just care for that specific territory and not like DoFla about the whole NW.
Also that we get AGAIN another connection to DoFla that early in the NW i think isnt likely. He will later in the NW has his appearnace with all the guys supporting him, he also isn
t the best guy to be allied with for fishman.(being the slave market leader which sold your friends)
–--- Usopp's new weapon and power up seem fairly awesome. However, part of me wishes that he had maintained his focus on being the best sharpshooter. Now he's the best long distance gardener in the world... not quite as impressive.
Usopp never said that becoming the best sharpshooter would be his goal.
(also it wouldnt fit his weak image to be the best of the whole world) So his new techniques add more to his real dream, than having a better sight or something which a sharpshooter could improve. Also how would you be able to ever call him something like the best sharpshooter, i guess there is no contest or something like that..it
s just how famous you get in the NW and by that which opponents you defeat.
(with his new techniques he has more chances to do so against Van Auger etc.)
-i guess his sniping at EL already showed that he is in a league with the best ..i mean shooting even further áway objects would be kind of a lame "OMG he improved!"
they did react, 4 of them nami brook usopp and chopper did. sanji's new trait can't be annoying, its part of the character now (or for now)…hating this trait means u hate sanji. i wouldn't mind a few less skull jokes lol
No it just means he hates this new trait.
Sanji is funny though. I think it's funny trait.
My guess is that Van der Dekken is the new nakama. Remember that pic of the SHs Oda especially draw for some important guys and sent in a letter.
Usopp's new weapon and power up seem fairly awesome. However, part of me wishes that he had maintained his focus on being the best sharpshooter. Now he's the best long distance gardener in the world… not quite as impressive.
I think the problem here is how Usopp could have developed without being overpowered feeling or useless. Usopp doesn't fight with a gun for a very good reason, having a gun in One Piece is pretty black and white in terms of power, and also seems a bit too violent for Usopp's personality. Instead, Oda focused on making his ability more creative than powerful. While he is indeed an amazing sharpshooter (to the point of him being very very good at it pre-timeskip), it's hard to have fights focused on just that alone. The way Oda developed him allows his fights to be dynamic and not focused entirely on shooting the other guy from really far away.
It's no different from how Luffy fights with different techniques, Usopp got that through use of different bullets. Straight sharpshooting would be akin to a one on one brawl with no interesting powers between say Luffy and someone else. While that would still be pretty entertaining, I highly doubt it would stay interesting throughout the whole series.
Also I can't believe people are sick of Sanji's nosebleed shit, because Oda keeps one-upping each joke. This chapter actually had me laughing for like entire minutes.
@don
well Usopp said in 596 that for Luffy to become Pirate King he is going to become a true"King of Snipers"
