@Silence:
I watched Puni Puni Poemy because I heard it was done by the guys who did Excel Saga, which, back when it was coming out on DVD, I bought and showed in my school's animation club extensively.
I kept hearing that Puni Puni Poemy was crackier than even the last, too-offensive-and-risque-to-air episode of Excel Saga - which was pretty… pretty freaking wow, at the time. At least it was to my then limited scope of anime knowledge. Everybody kept asking me "why won't you show the last episode of Excel Saga?" to which I would reply, "I -absolutely- can't. They'll shut down the club for sure!" ...and it was true.
And a few years later, I found myself bored at my grandparents house with direct tv free rentals staring me down and Puni Puni Poemi hovering dauntingly on the screen. I clicked.
And was... rendered incapable of speech to describe what I had just seen.
Now, years later, I don't really know if Puni Puni Poemi was as hilarious and WAY OUT THERE as I recall it to be. This will inevitably result in a repeat watching.
And I don't know if I'll laugh or cry for having done it.
I have no idea what PPP was so popular like five years ago, when I jumped into the fansub scene it was already yesterday's newspaper.
But SHAFT, JC Staff and GAINAX have all taken turns at fronting utterly bizarre, random, offbeat anime. Gainax might have been first with FLCL, but SHAFT currently rules this niche, JC Staff's reign almost makes them out to be an expatriate.
Any comments on Episode 6 (?) I believe? The one with "caricature" Japanese?
