Hey are you TONEY.
If so then hey.
-
So anyone have an opinion of Sonic Colors?
-
-
@Cyan:
It's very fruity.
I find it rather Colorful. Looks fun, to me.
-
Same 3-D auto rail-grind lack of effort they've been tossing out, having truly given up once and for all at doing 3-D platforming.
-
I just watched the trailers for 4 and Colors, and I wanna believe.
-
Believe in WAN-DAH-RANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

In other news, Sega reveals the final stage, even though we've all seen it before.
-
I love sega's twenty second trailers.
They speak of a company with pride and confidence in what they do.
-
Fast edited 20 second trailers that don't have more than 1 second of consecutive footage, at that.
-

Hahaha. Not that it makes for a worse game, though.
-
True, but if they knew they had a winner on their hands they wouldn't do them that way.
That's more the style of a teaser trailer for a game coming out in a year or two, not a week or two.
So you're instantly left thinking "what are they covering up".
Since videos of the entire game as of 3 months ago was leaked online we pretty much know though.
-
That video actually looked alright compared to the others.
Shame the video editor is really shit at picking gameplay segments. Its all like 'ZOOM, POW, TWIRL, SPIN, FLASH, BANG' continuously without any insight into the standard gameplay.
Imagine if DBZ games did that? lol
(2minutes of beams, blasts and deathballs with no sparring between) -
It does seem as though they're hiding something with teaser length trailers but reviews will reveal all anyway, so I'll wait for that. I haven't bought a Sonic game since Heroes so I'll definitely wait and see.
-
Really now, Sega.
How hard is this?

http://www.sonicstadium.org/community/2010/10/sonic-fan-remix-releases-2-minute-gameplay-video/Proof enough that fans know how to make a Sonic game, so why doesn't Sega?
-
They may know how to make a game but in this particuar case not a visually pleasing level.
-
The visuals weren't what I was talking about.
I was referring to the physics.
-
I know you were still don't like the way it looks.
-
The visuals in that video actually look great, far better than Sonic 4 in any case.
-
-
I was going to say that the Emerald Hill remixed theme wasn't so good, but then the accoustic guitar came. Then, all was forgiven.
But seriously, is this a real game? I'd love to play it.
-
Real game that's currently being made.
-
Proof enough that fans know how to make a Sonic game, so why doesn't Sega?
This kind of thinking is why Sega fails so hard with Sonic.
-
Yeah, it's being made with Unity. I've been semi-following it.
The artwork is BEAUTIFUL, but ultimately appears to be quite distracting, as there's so much going on.
-
Yeah, I personally thought it looked great. Had I seen the game do anything that hadn't already been done by 1993, I would definitely watch this game closely.
-
I don't think he's trying to do anything new :\
What Sega needs to do is get the original formula down, then build off of that. I think Sonic 4 will be good, but ultimately not what Sonic 4 should be. :\
-
Yeah, try to get that guy to build off of his stolen/spliced Sonic game and see what happens, though.
Two series come to mind when I think of "original formula"
Megaman, a series highly successful in building off of a basic gameplay formula. Successful with his fan base at least. The core games and big off shoots (Legends, Network) rarely ever fail, but the little guy lit up the sales charts maybe three times in the last 20 years.
Mario, who does well on a critical and commercial level. At this point probably a little less than half of his games go on the original design. Same with Sonic. The only difference is that his experimental titles are good.

Even if they've lost it(sega don't do well with retaining source code) it's all available online(thanks to one of the guys making this game in point of fact).
The problem all these fan made games have is level design (probably why this one is a remake). It takes a lot of time to make good, well thought out levels.
Problem with sega is that no matter how good their level design is, their bizarre refusal to deal with the fundamental problems with the way sonic has handled in the last 50,000 games means it will always be for naught.

This is how Sonic 4 should have looked like if they are going for such an artstyle. Even though it improved a bit since the leaked build, it still looks poorly done, with hardly any effort when I think of other modern 2D homeconsole games like Lostwinds, Limbo, etc. Not to mention the retail stuff like Muramasa, Wario Land Wii, new Kirby and DK Country…
If the developers are too lazy to develop a proper look for Sonic 4, they should at least do it like Megaman 9 or the Konami Rebirth series... -

No way. The level looks WAY too busy and is really distracting. Especially with the trees that pop up in the foreground while running along the level.
Honestly, I don't get where fans believe fans know how to do Sonic justice. They're the reason Sonic Team thought it was a good idea to give Shadow guns, seeing as how ST was getting e-mails from fans saying they wanted a Sonic game with weapons. :|
Not to mention, a grand chunk of the current fanbase is filled with people that think the Genesis games were nothing but pure-speed, people who never touched a Sonic game prior to Sonic Adventure 2 coming to the GameCube just because it wasn't on a Nintendo console before, and people who think SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (the 360/PS3 title) is the best Sonic game ever (or as I refer to it as "Baby's First Sonic Game", which SA2B also shares).
-
Honestly, I don't get where fans believe fans know how to do Sonic justice.
Because I know I'm right in my incredible simple requests that they managed to do for 5 games in row 15 years ago on inferior hardware.

And because I know I didn't ask for, or think of, any of that.
Not saying all fans should have a say. Just the ones that know what they're talking about. And that have the simple request of "Just do what you did before."
I don't care if Sonic's eyes are green. I really don't.
Side note. Nights into Dream was pretty fantastic. And they screwed up that sequal 15 years later, too.
-
lol at Tsukento thinking retro fans are the same as the furry teenage melodrama crowd.
-
@RobbyBevard:

Unfortunately, that was the result of:
A) Doing a sequel to a game Yuji Naka said he wouldn't make just for the sake of making one
B) Yuji Naka not being present within the company at the time
C) Sega enforcing strict deadlines
D) Development shifting from the 360 to Wii, scrapping all of the previous work and making sure it was on time.Honestly, it hasn't been until recent where Sega's gotten their act together and has been releasing some decent to pretty awesome titles (like the Yakuza and Valkyria Chronicles series'). Hell, it's taken them several tries to get Phantasy Star right after screwing up with Phantasy Star Universe. Not only did they finally do it right on the PSP, but they're even releasing a sequel to Phantasy Star Online. PSU was supposed to be the successor to PSO. With PSO2 coming out, that basically shows just how terribly received PSU was.
@JERK:
lol at Tsukento thinking retro fans are the same as the furry teenage melodrama crowd.
I don't recall bringing up anything about furries or the whole melodrama crap. Hell, I don't even recall comparing the retro fans to them. My whole point was that a good chunk of the fanbase pretty much has the wrong impressions about the series and it usually has to do with where they started.
Do all classic Sonic fans think the series is nothing but speed? No. But a large chunk of them do and tend to be quick to shout off about how they know how to make the series better and how they could do better.
Needless to say, the Sonic fanbase (like with most franchises) have a lot of idiot fans that don't know what they're talking about, contrary to what they want to believe.

The graphics look great, thats a given but I do agree with some of the others in here. Theres far too much shit in the screen.
Something about the physics or gravity really doesnt seem right though. Can't put my finger on it.
Also that full stop sound effect is incredibly jarring against the other 16 bit sound effects
-
The physics are fine.
In point of fact, thanks to a lot of groundwork a while back, it's the easiest thing to get right.

The physics are pretty much spot-on. :\

Actually, Sonic moves rather slow considering there's a lot of empty space for him to run through, especially after the Spin Dashes done. There's also the times where Sonic would normally do a bit of screeching slide when switching directions after building some speed, as well as after jumping to a platform.
-
So there's a trailer out for the Iphone at Sonic Stadium.

I think that might be it actually

So, when a fan in their free time is able to get a 98% accurate update of the classic look and physics its still nitpicked…
And when an entire professional company who has a large staff, should have access to the original code, spends years and tons of money on a similar project and achieves 73% and gets the physics completely wrong... people still hold out hope and defend them.
Makes perfect sense.
-
by jove I think you've got it.

Nitpicking? Not really?
Just mentioning that something didnt look right with the gameplay.
I'd probably still play and enjoy it
I'm not outright defending or damning anyone. If the outcome of this or Sonic 4 is that a fun game is made, I'm happy.

I like percentages. :D
But seriously, I can't wait to play both Sonic 4 and Sonic Fan Remix just to see how much better Sonic Fan Remix will be.

That's just it. Perhaps people don't want to except that a bunch fanboys can do what a "professional" programming studio can't.

Just the wording of this statement is so damn hilarious.
Also, a message to my Survivor crowd, THIS is the thread you're looking for! Let's see if you guys even notice this post…

But they haven't done anything.
-
Um… do you even have any programming knowledge?
I mean, it's not like this information was just randomly made public.
I imagine countless hours of trial and error were spent trying to figure out the physics.
-
You have to realize that I haven't been talking about programming at all. Unless the point was to make a short clip wank worthy to some fans, I don't think that video does much. Is there any release information out there?
-
So I've been playing Sonic 4 on my iPhone…
Yeah, SEGA doesn't get it.
Most of the complaints are valid. This game plays just like Sonic Rush. minimal movements just to get to the next bumped or speed booster, excessively long levels with minimal bad guys (3:30 minutes seem to be average) and a lot of vertical areas.
The homing move, however, was actually better than I thought. On an iphone this actually makes the game playable unlike Sonic 1 and 2 but since you don't need to use it much it doesn't get in the way. It can also be used as a speed boost in the air. Might be different on the consoles, though.
Something I found VERY stupid, though, is that you can play all the levels IN ANY ORDER! After completing the first act of the game you can play any zone and any act that you want. What's the point of that?!
-
Oh shit, I totally forgot that Sonic 4 is coming out in October. I thought it was Decemer.
Oh God, next week is going to be painful…
