I could probably find a translation somewhere.
Odds are seiya will one day be in my god tier, it just has that aura about it.

From what I hear Saint Seiya is Bleach done right.
I actually like the translated name: Knights of the Zodiac better than: Saint Seiya
Yeah Geppetto it's like you said, Seiya is a better Bleach. YYH is an even better example, although YYH verges on God class like Seiya imo.
YYH is epic compared to bleach and most of the story's portrayed in it are rather simple storylines. Someone should tell kubo simple is better you don't need a hax character in order to make a series special.
I really enjoy Yu Yu. It's solid in all capacities.
Technically Raizen was hax but A. he was 1000 years old and a natural s + class demon B. Yusuke didn't beat him and C. the demon rankings were consistent in yyh as opposed to bleach
@ZIK: I don't see how Natsu looks like Haru (they are both named after seasons those)
For real?!?!
If I put the past 4 main characters from Rave, FT, MHO, and Monster Soul all look alike to me.
But maybe you're joking?:ninja:
Sorry, do you like The World is Mine?
I thought it was puke-inducing material. And made no sense.
Couldn't get myself to finish it anyway, it was way too gross and random.
I read 2 chapters… it was pretty damn random I agree. I forgot where these people were discussing it, but they were talking about how great the psychological development was.
Then I start reading it, the crazy serial killer is having sex with a girl, then throws her out the car (while it's in motion)? And then puts his fingers in his best friends mouth so he could "taste" her (he didn't ask or want to)?
And I was like :wassat:
That fucked my mind pretty good, just because the actions made no fucking sense.

I'm not joking, But I do agree with No Maam that Racer looks alot like that Maraka using dude from rave
Reading this thread gives me an idea.
How about a thread where we evaluate the revolutionary and innovative Japanese cartoon and comic book writers throughout history.
We could look at who innovated and revolutionized what, how, who was inspired by who.
Or is this idea bad.
That would be good and informative since I'm no expert on any of the mangaka I'm a fan of. Discussing the ground breaking and revolutionary ideas or long lasting concepts would take a lot of ppl reading each work talked about.

I think I might take you up on that idea. There's already people in mind, I just wonder if I should give the honorary Tezuka starter.
All I can say is how high One piece will be in 2020: Enough to transcend god!
Lets see~
! Fullmetal Alchemist
One Piece
Berserk
Soul Eater
Mahou Sensei Negima!
D.Gray-Man
Elfenlied
Akumetsu
Dragonball
The Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer
Bakuman
Hellsing
Gantz
Highscholl of the Dead
The Breaker
Claymore
Psyren
Naruto
Bleach
Fairy Tail

M.A.R.
Ane Doki
Uzumaki
Bartender
Shinigami to Chocolate Parfait
! Awesome
Great
Good
enjoyable
shit
No special ranking in the tiers themselves…
Death Note would be at Great, but I've only seen the Anime so it wouldn't fit in a manga tier list. Cowboy Bebop would be at awesome, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann at Great.
Changed Berserk's Tier. Such a good manga~
Checkout Kamen Rider Kabuto or Kuuga if you want to
I might give it a try once the work pile at school diminshes.
But i'm not sure i can handle a power rangers show played with a straight face:ninja:
good to see that someone else see's Shaman King as being decent and not shit.
Granted i havent finished it, but up to when he deals with the necromancer with the creepy nurse "puppet" it was pretty entertaining. But as with fairy tail maybe i just havent gotten to the terrible parts.
Bartender
shit
Huh what did you find so incredibly terrible about Bartender?
Obviously saying this with extreme bias, but Bartender has some pretty good stories in the later volumes. I really enjoy slice of life, though.
@Wolfwood: I used to love the Shaman King manga, but as with Bleach it was a case of seeing something go a bit downhill. Admittedly I still grant SK 9 out of 10, mainly because it was a general meh direction to the series. Faust was where I really started to love the series.
I really enjoyed both the bartender anime and the manga, shame it had to end so soon.
I really do need to sit down and read Bleach sometime soon. I'm so tired of being left out of the conversation:ninja:
You might as well catch up just for the hell of it sometime if you have time spare.
Tier 1
Vagabond
One Piece
Akira
Berserk
JJBA
Tier 2
Yawara
Dragonball
Fist of the North Star
Hajime no Ippo
FMA
Dr. Slump
Tier 3
Kenshin
Yu Yu Hakusho
Tier 4
Fairy Tail
Rave
Naruto
Bleach
I came up with little more than a Jump top 10, really because I haven't read manga in a long time and never got around to the "classics" like Monster or Pluto
@Buccaneer: You have plenty of time before you read more classics. The next classic I intend to read when I've finished what I am currently catching up to is Adolf. A series in concept that has earned a 10. However I NEVER pre-rank series.
I might give it a try once the work pile at school diminshes.
But i'm not sure i can handle a power rangers show played with a straight face:ninja:
I admit, they are guys in costumes using transforming devices and have exploding enemies, but they lack the zords and legitimate teams. Far more badass than power rangers.

I too would put shaman king somewhere around that rating. It's a hell of a lot better than Fairy tail. Honestly, I kept reading because Hiroyuki Takei can draw really great and use amazing contrast, especially in his Kanzenban versions.

Good Idea. Do it now.
@Raider: my main beef with the manga towards the end was the fact that Yoh didn't achieve his goal. I'm re-watching the anime because it deserves a second chance, and when I am done with my massive list of new manga and of course re-reading other series I might give it another go.

Yeah, the ending wasn't much of a bang. I was just glad that it got a proper ending. But then it got a sequel which is where my beef went. Haven't been reading new series or other series though as much before though.
@Raider: I tried to follow the sequel for a bit but then got bored, plus there was a little confusion as to what was the sequel, because Funbari no uta got taken off the myanimelist site so it seemed pointless to continue.
Some series make you want to read others because A. you want more awesomeness such as with One Piece or Dragonball in my case. However there is B. you need awesomenes to take away the bitterness of a downhill/terrible series, in my case Fairytail or Bleach.
@Friend of Luffy and Gon
For me, it's more of if I can find a series that can give a great impression. It doesn't matter if they are the same kind of shonen, its the impression they leave and how strong it is. FT, Bleach, and Naruto for starters caught me in the beginning, but lost it's flavor, even before I started reading One Piece (Not FT though). It's not that I need to be extremely bitter of the series, it's that even if I am not critical or anything, it will still just doesn't feel, well, amazing.
So far, the only series that I have to say has left an impression on me like One piece and I still love it no matter what has to be the King of Bandits Jing series. Love that series.
[hide]To let you know, it's just that I have something against series that has the Hero being, well, the Hero. Doing it all for justice, the fate of the world and his friends, gaining powerups like no tomorrow and everything becomes of convenience so easily, with no absolute difficulty, to them just because they are the hero or because of their lineage or something. I can go on about this.[/hide]Anyways, it's time I put up my tier list (no specific order). It's pretty incomplete because I'm still missing some series I have read and I just put some in the slump for the sake of putting them there:

Reading FMA right now.
@Raider: yeah I generally give things a chance based on the series not on the demographic, I just happen to usually prefer shounen since it has more themes and stuff I'm more interested in.
Yeah I understand what you are saying about the hero being the hero, but bear in mind even the most purehearted heroes in shonen can do things for selfish reasons. Hunter X Hunter is like One Piece in not being straightforward in simple heroics and morality.
@Jerk disease, I must give you double kudos then for A. having the colonel as your avatar and B. reading one of the greatest manga series.
@ Friend of Luffy and Gon
Oh, I am fully aware of that. That's why I like Luffy and Gon a lot. It's because of that selfishness or something that makes them a good character. A "human" character. They just defect from the hero-hero. I was talking about characters like Ichigo, Natsu, Naruto, maybe even Negi, Haru glory, etc. Well. Yeah.
It's wierd Goku was selfish in wanting to simply be the strongest but he was hit by the devil beam and had NO evil in him. Oh I know which characters you mean.
Other good examples of "not exactly selfless but definitely fit the mold of hero" would be Ed in FMA and Giorno Brando in JJBA Part 5.
@Friend:

I guess you could say his hunger outweighs his selfishness!

Ed definitely does fit the mold. Though sadly, I don't know much about Giorno yet, I'm still at part 2. Ripples are awesome.

The best thing about Shaman King is the battles, Takei has said so himself that he doesn't like to draw battles all that much and only if they actually flow into the story, some of the battles from the begining volumes were done by his editor cause his editor thought that SK had promise but wouldn't do to well if it didn't draw boys attention in. I have no idea how well SK did in the weekly polls but seeing as how it got to..what? 33 volumes before it was cancelled and a few years later got a "true" ending.
Back to what I was saying, the battles make this series what it is. For one of the better battles check out Horohoro vs. Blocken Meyer and Big Guy Bill Burton.

I like both types. I call it the batman and superman effect. The batman effect is to protect the weak but do it in your own way, which is what Luffy and even Gon do this also goes to choosing who you want to protect. Not everyone is "protected" by these people.
The Superman effect is to fight for the sake of justice nuff said.
I guess you could say his hunger outweighs his selfishness!
Ed definitely does fit the mold. Though sadly, I don't know much about Giorno yet, I'm still at part 2. Ripples are awesome.
HiroHiko is a genius, I like the fact that he made the Ripple effect grow, hell it was even used during Part 3 once. When the Stands appeared they didn't feel random it actually fit in with the rest of the story. I stopped reading Part 5 due to the fact that I was till in the daze of how jaw dropping awesome Part 4 was. Why did Part 3 get an animated adaptation and not 4? hell I even had dreams of Part 4. (freaky dreams mind you).
@JERK:
Reading FMA right now.
Undoubtedly one of the best shonen. It isn't in my god tier list because unfortunately though I really liked it, I've never really felt excited when I read it. The excitement is the main difference between my high tier list and my god tier list.
Huh what did you find so incredibly terrible about Bartender?
Well, I did enjoy it for the first 10 chapters, but soon I got bored, . It's not what I would call a incredibly terrible series, it just got boring for me after a while, it may be nice written and thought through well, but it never really did anything to me, thats why I put it in the last tier. I'm fine with slice of life, but having a plot that wraps everything together would be nice. That, and I'm not too interessted in bartending technices/drinks.
So its rather a "boring"-bad than a "terrible-written-piece-of-shit"-terrible for me.
I admit, they are guys in costumes using transforming devices and have exploding enemies, but they lack the zords and legitimate teams. Far more badass than power rangers.
Wow that actualy seemed pretty good.
It's like live action anime.
So its rather a "boring"-bad than a "terrible-written-piece-of-shit"-terrible for me.
Ah then i follow you, was just thrown for a loop a bit with the shit ranking.
Thought you meant unreadable garbage.
I think I might take you up on that idea. There's already people in mind, I just wonder if I should give the honorary Tezuka starter.
Go ahead.
I'll get into the topic afterwards.
I recently added Absolute Boyfriend to my 10 out of 10 tier.
Usually I prefer shonen and to a lesser extent seinen but AB had something very special about it.
That reminds me to put Fruits Basket in the 10 tier.
searches for Master Keaton in the thread search
no returns
This thread automatically sucks now.
At least Adolf, Firebird, and Pluto are mentioned.
Btw, I own close to 1000 manga volumes, and that's less than half of what I had when I was in Japan.
(Had to let go and give them to my relatives when I left…. too much to move overseas with)

Have you read any yet? If you didnt, then I'd say some good shoujos are Arisa, Momo, Mei-chan no Shitsuji(but scanlations were discontinued), and Absolute Boyfriend (The ending was great). Shoujo is definitely a go to if you need an extreme drama fix or a change of look.

Putting Gantz over Berserk should be bannable.

Putting Gantz over Berserk should be bannable.
I think its worse to put berserk on the same level of Naruto, Belach and Fairy Tail
goes to his tiers where he putted the first part of naruto higher than berserk and goes editing it before he gets banned
well he was a idiot , berserk on low tier .what a idiot
I really need to post my tiers someday but I haven't read enough manga to do one yet.

Who in the right mind would rate Gantz above Berserk. That's like saying Twilight is better than any classic book out there (take your pick, the fans of twilight are this dumb)

Just make a tiers list of what you've already read.
New category:
Most bad ass mofo of all time:
1. Kenshiro
2. Everyone else
Tiering of manga is pretty dumb IMO.
But if I had to, I'd do Good, Better, Best.
Why would I bother listing manga I don't care for.
Just make a tiers list of what you've already read.
That would be impossible.
Most bad ass mofo of all time:
1. Kenshiro
2. Everyone else
I actually personally prefer Saeba Ryo & Lupin as my personal heroes of Crouching Moron Hidden Badass.
You say Kenshiro and I raise you Ogami Itto.
