If you like Mashima's Monster Hunter then you're probably gonna like Toriko as well. It feels quite fresh compared to Psyren and that Reborn rip-off with demons.

Very cool series. Toriko kinda reminds me of a mix between George of the Jungle, Yujiro Hanma, Kenshiro, and Luffy and Goku's appitite combined. Very hilarious with the insane beasts and how damn manly this guy gets at times.
Just saw how he uses his "Fork" and "Knife". Definitely will continue to read this…

This series has been ranked consistantly 5th in the jump ranks, after OP, Naruto, and Bleach, the cover manga is always #1. So it seems to be pretty popular.
That's why I'm translating it, and all… me and that other guy just recently have gotten all of the currently-out chapters translated. Dragoon on mangahelpers is scanlating it.

Like I said, #1 is the cover, OP is second, Naruto is Third, Bleach is fourth, consistantly.
Then Toriko is 5th. Though it varies a bit more week by week with Toriko, it's never lower than 8th, and averages out to 5th.

Though Toriko is a lot closer to 6th than 5th. Toriko, Reborn, and Gintama all have a mean rank difference of less than 1. Naruto and Bleach are about 2 full mean ranks higher. So they're more consistantly third and fourth.
Also Toriko's only 18 issues long so it can warp a bit over time.
Also Bakuman hasn't been on the chart very long so you can't tell where that's placed, but where it stands now it's higher than Toriko.
and here I was hoping that Bakuman would get canceled
This series is AWESOME. It's like Hunter X Hunter, but to see what a Gourmet Cook would do (like that fat guy and that chick in the Hunter Exams). I love this series. There was a new chapter out today I think. I wonder what that beast is. knock master Jirio seemed hesitant about it.
This series is getting so good in such a short amount of time, and it's a good thing to know that there are things out there that are leagues beyond Toriko, despite him having such a high rank already.
The development of the "world powers" is also interesting. Hopefully we will get to see whoever created the super suits before the fight to protect the mammoth ensues.
! And we will finally get to see the Battle Wolf in action. Can't wait for 22.
I hope this becomes one of Jump's greatest hits. I Wouldn't be surprised if Toriko's full-course quest becomes of One Piece proportions.
yeah this really is a great series. I love how it can make cooking extremely exciting. What do you mean 22? Is 21 out? All I see translated on onemanga is 20.
yea chapter 21 raw came out recently and it was really good, battle wolf was mentioned in 20 but we finally get to see it's appearance in chapter 21.

Designs aren't really this guys forte. Aside from the old man and a few of the monsters, a lot of his designs are pretty bland. Toriko looks pretty much identical to Kenshiro, aside from a few twists in style.
I'm almost done translating 21. It's pretty good. The colesium has fights between the wild beasts that determine their capture level and things.

I don't see how they look similar beyond both being fairly muscular. Especially when you consider Toriko's usual expression compared to Kenshiro's (or lack there of.)
Either way I've been enjoying this series a lot, one of my favorite ongoing magas now. It's good to see a series more along hte lines of "old school Shonen" being made, and it seems to be doing well enough in the Jump.

I'm glad the guy makes the "explaining" entertaining like Oda's. The colleseum ranking system makes a lot of sense. Hopefully we will find out why the LV25 snake managed to fight in pair with the Battle Wolf despite the rank of the later being "unmeasurable".

yeah, next to Hunter X Hunter and One Piece (although not OP at the current moment), it's my 3rd favorite series.
Just started this series and it's amazing! I love the concept and the art is really awesome- it's refreshing to see a Shounen Hero that actually LOOKS like he's a beast instead of a leaner muscularity like we get with Naruto, Bleach, OP, HxH, and Reborn. I just hope that this series survives.

I just noticed this series, but I'm impressed.
What really gets me is unlike with luffy or goku who have to keep pushing themselves to get stronger you know toriko is an unstoppable beast who still holding back, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the fights.
He'll probably have to get stronger eventually. Or else there'll be some sorta flashback arc.
It's kinda like Gintama… Only if there never is a flashback arc or the character ever gets stronger.

You should. Although it almost feels like reading a manga from the 80's (which's a good thing), it's probably the most original series to hit Jump this century.
Btw, it's already a top tier, beating Bleach in a regular basis.
Bleach is falling further down the tiers as we speak. It's not really THE BIG THREE anymore, with Kuroko no Basket and Bakuman also reaching the upper tier sometimes. I'd say if Kuroko and Bakuman keep it up, we may have to rename it the big six (One Piece, Naruto, Toriko, Bleach, Bakuman and Kuroko.)
the further along this series comes.. the more popular it will get. This is a really unique read. I find it to be worlds better than the boring beginning that Bleach had

I just got done reading chapters 1 - 13 and so far I have been drooling like a homeless guy who hasn't eaten in weeks not to mention the creature designs in this make most creature designs in RPG's fail in comparison. Now to finish the Puffer Whale arc.

Well, they went to a hot spring together once, along with a bunch of other manga-ka. Oda mentioned it in an SBS. But that was 3 or 4 years ago. We know nothing as to their relationship today. Or even then, for that matter, except for the hot spring trip.
Oda mentioned him in an interview also in a question about who are his "good manga friends."
