James Cameron is so far away from common sense that he once encountered it and common sense hadn't heard of Avatar, it hadn't heard of him. He found it really refreshing. It was nice, you know.

someone checked out the rest of JL from the movie store, and since it didn't have Wolverine and the Xmen 2 + 3, i decided to jump right in again at disc 4
you know, i might HALFWAY like this series if every single gay episode wasnt about WOLVERQUEEN
how many incantations of SPOOKY SCIENTIST GLUED METAL TO WOLVERINE'S BONES SO ANGSTY will we have to sit through
also, are WOLVERINE'S "SECRET" PAST and GENOCIDE the only notable stories to come from an entire race of superheros

Does Dark Phoenix saga count as GENOCIDE?
If thats the case, then yeah, pretty much.
-
Okay, I'm ready for a new Tangled trailer. Anytime now, Disney.

oh yeah, forgot about that one

DOUBLE RAINBOW????

cannot connect the double rainbow guy and tangled in her head

Wolverine was seriously a drama queen in a lot of the cartoons he was in. Especially the 90s one. I mean, the first time Jean turned into the Phoenix and went evil:
Phoenix: Kill me, Logan!
Wolverin: NO! I CAN'T DO IT! evil Phoenix kicks his ass
Cyclops: proceeds to attempt to kill his wife with optic blasts Gotta do what I gotta do.Not that Cyclops wansn't a asshole. Cause he was.

New Tangled trailer. Still INCREDIBLY playing down the entire Rapunzel aspect, she's hardly in the trailer. P&TF really scared them apparently.
TyTkA6dHlNU
And its STILL totally the horse from Road to El Dorado. I'm getting a lot of RtED vibe from the whole thing, really.
-
Here's a different Trailer. This one is for the UK.

Something tells me that the horse is going to be the best character of the movie.
But seriously, I do want to see this movie. It's going to be completely stupid, but I think it's going to be a fun stupid.
-
Its interesting that the UK trailer…. is about Rapunzel, while the US one tries to hide her as much as possible. Weird seeing the blatant maketing shift.
I do like the swordfighting horse though. Nice to see him getting more work.
-
So I guess the UK likes a movie with a princess. America doesn't…wut
-
I really like the tone of this movie. Reminds me a bit of Kuzco. Of course I'd rather have a more traditional movie like the olden days, but I can definitely enjoy a movie that is just trying to be fun and comical.
Being a Chuck fan helps too.
-
I can understand them being afraid of alienating the boy viewers, but you don't have to keep the heroine out of the marketing! You just have to downplay the girly-girly aspects of it. (sparkles, jewelry, mushy scenes . . . . . pink)
Oh well. I'm glad at least there's ONE trailer that has Rapunzel in for a good amount of it. I'm definitely seeing this.
Yeah, I'm getting that Emperor's New Groove/El Dorado feeling. Although I'm hoping for a more "Disney-ish" feel once I see the thing proper. Trailers can only do so much.
Edit: Y'know, we've seen like . . . . . NOTHING of the villainess yet. Why are they keeping her so under wraps? All kids can appreciate a good villainess.

There's a villain(ess)?
I was going to go into my usual anti-formula rant but this is the first time the thought even crossed the Rubicon into my cerebral cortex. So you'll have to forgive my ignorance…please elaborate before I open my big tomoe.

From memory in the original story a witch shut her in the tower.

Yep. We can't forget the Witch who put Rapunzel in the tower in the first place! Although in the movie Rapunzel thinks of her as "mother" so we'll be getting some juicy "mother vs. daughter" stuff, I'm sure. She's being voiced by Donna Murphy, better known as Anji, Picard's love interest, from Star Trek: Insurrection. She's named "Mother Gothel."
If I recall, she apparently keeps Rapunzel locked up because the magic in her hair is what she uses to keep herself young. So she needs to keep Rapunzel or else she'll become a wizened crone.

Oh God, who could possibly voice the witch.
We haven't had a good female villain since Yzma! Oh, Eartha Kitt, rest in beautiful, beautiful slumber. I miss you so.

I don't think there has been any other
goodvillainess after Yzma… -
Does the lady from Enchanted count?
Yeah, the Evil Queen from that was pretty good (stupid dragon form, though). But sadly she didn't get a lot of screen time to chew up the scenery.
And nope, I do believe Yzma was the last villainess. So yay for Tangled, bringing back the she-villain. (Disney's villainesses are always the best)
-
Yzma, Ursula, and Maleficent are some notable ones. I can't really recall any others at the moment though, since I'm kinda tired right now.
-
Snow White Wicked Queen, Stepmother in Cinderella, Queen in Alice, Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty, Cruella Devil in 101 Dalmations, Forgettable in Sword in the Stone, Madame in Rescuers, Ursula in Mermaid, Scar in Lion King, Rosie O Donnel in Tarzan, Yzma in Emporer's, and there was sort of a co-villain split in Atlantis.
Of course the Disney afternoon had a few more. Magica Despell in Ducktales, Mirage, Sedira and in Aladdin, Demona in Gargoyles.

Maybe robby's making reference to the animators using a woman's hips as a model for Scar's shoulders (arse talking here).

I believe he was referring to the fact that Scar became a total priss after taking over.
"It's the lionesses job to do the hunting."
"No! You're just not looking hard enough!"
"I'm the king! I can do whatever I want!"
-
I still dispute the assertion that Yzma was the villain in The Emperor's New Groove; Kuzco was such a total bastard that nobody cared when she took over.
-

I'm 99% sure that Yzma was done by Eartha Kitt.

Queen Narissa? Yeah, Susan did an amazing job as her. Aside from her dragon form, I felt like I could possibly fear her.
@RobbyBevard:
Scar in Lion King
So true. So very true.
Rosie O Donnel in Tarzan
Oh…YOU!
and there was sort of a co-villain split in Atlantis.
She was 25% of the reason I hated that movie.
Why did she have to die? SHE WAS HOT!

Something that bothered me - why did Scar need an army of hyenas anyway? Bonzai, Shenzi and Ed did all of his dirty work and ended up the only three who ate him, and it's not like Scar took over the Pride Lands by force. He was the legitimate successor to the throne after Mufasa's lineage supposedly died out.
-
If I recall correctly, he was being an awful king that let the Hyenas kill and eat whatever they want
That doesn't sound like it'l get him any friends, other than the Hyenas -
Scar basically threw his hands up in the air and decided not to do anything or care. The hyenas ate everything, leaving nothing for the lions. So what's Scar's plan? Send the women to go hunt the food.
What a prissy queen.
EDIT: Also, Terek has a point. Scar didn't need ANY of the hyenas at all. Scar could have easily roared to trigger the stampede (actually, I think he did). A most importantly…HE COULD HAVE KILLED SIMBA HIMSELF! While the fucker is crying, run up and bite his neck in two!
Mufasa and Simba would be dead. There'd be unlimited proof that the stampede killed them both. BAM! Scar is king. He doesn't owe shit to the hyenas. Scar gets to be the bitch he's always wanted to be.
And don't tell me, "HE COULDN'T DO THAT BECAUSE IT'S A KIDS MOVIE!" No shit. But it still points out that Scar is an idiot.
-
If it wasn't for Simba, it would have worked
-
If it wasn't for Simba, it would have worked
Exactly why Scar should have killed him! He killed his brother, how hard would it be to bite the shit out of that little kitten?
-
Well, he just didn't care because he didn't think Simba wouldn't be a pussy, I would probably have thought the same, tbh
-

Well, that's not exactly my point.
True Scar could have more or less done everything himself, but he wasn't nearly clever enough to pull it off deceptively without getting caught. Killing Simba in the Elephant Graveyard would have exposed him immediately.
What I meant is, Scar let the hyenas eat so much they turned the pride-lands into a dump. But he didn't need those dozens and dozens of extra hyeans anyway, they didn't help him earn his throne and instead were the primary reason the animals ran away from the Pride Lands.
If Scar had been a GREAT king instead of an awful one, it would have put a serious dent in Simba's supposed triumphant return. Although I think if he had been good none of the triggers for Simba's return (Nala, Mufasa's plea) would have come around anyway, in spite of the bloody circumstances behind Scar's ascension.
-
No, I don't mean killing Simba at the Elephant Graveyard. I mean killing Simba while he was mourning for Mufasa.
But I realize these actions aren't exactly in Scar's forte.
EDIT: But let's not forget…
Scar: Now here's my little secret. I KILLED MUFAS~
Simba: CROSS COUNTER!
Scar: WHAT!?!Throw him off the cliff. Fuck your little secrets. Your secrets are shit!
-
Oh I get it
You're saying that because only those 3 were necessary to actually kill Mustafa
I guess you're right, Scar is dumb -
My impression was that since he enlisted the help of hyenas in his plot to kill Mufasa, which he did need them for, he allowed other hyenas into their land to eat whatever they wanted as part of an agreement for helping him. It wasn't an army. It was his vision of "a new era" in which hyenas and lions lived together.
-
My take on this:
I forget where it was mentioned, but when it came to starting the stampede, if Scar had used ROAR he could've been exposed (someone could've heard him and put two and two together later). The hyenas were just the safer bet.
When it comes to his hyena army (or whatever), he probably became overly dependent on them over the years. Remember that when it comes to brains he has the lion's share but when it comes to brute strength…you know the rest.
The guy was a petty plotter who wanted all the status with none of the work. Hyenas did all the work because he didn't want to get his hands dirty, and he teased Simba with his secret near the end because he was so full of himself and how great he is that he couldn't help himself.
tl;dr: Scar's smart and cunning which are good points, but he's so blinded by his own ego and envy that it was his undoing. -

No no, I meant that Mother Gothel in Tangled is voiced by Donna Murphy.

There were also a ton of jokes when the movies originally came out (In both Mad AND Cracked!) that Scar was gay and overly feminine.
One of my other friends adamantly refuses to even consider this joke and adamantly denies it, so it amuses me for that reason alone.
I believe you mean Madam Mim.

I just try to forget about Sword in the Stone in general. I was so, so, SO disappointed in that one when I eventually saw it. For years and years I had assumed that the kid drew out the sword in the opening sequence and the rest was his becoming King, and a toned down take on Arthurian legend, since thats the clip that always gets shown from the movie. Then I finally see it, and it was… what it was, a mishmnash of bizarre educational tranformation sequences, and the only iconic scene it had was the ending, while all the rest of it was... hard to describe, but not to my liking.
I think its the only animated Disney that I've only seen once, aside from that war era batch that never see any sort of release.
-
Really? I always saw Scar as a badass, not a "gay" villain
Whatever -
[hide]
[/hide]…that was a lot funnier when I was 14.
-
Scar was basically a coward deep down, which is why he could never challenge Mufasa head on for the throne, and why he tried to blame his henchmen when simba stood up to him, and begged for mercy from the hyenas.
He couldn't kill simba before mufasa was dead because mufasa would have murdered him, and he was quite arrogant as well which was why he sent the hyenas to kill simba
-

i lol'd for reasons I don't fully understand.
